We had our wedding day here yesterday it was absolutely beautiful. We stayed over for a couple of days with our families, everyone and everything was amazing couldn't fault anything all the staff were lovely and accommodating. The food was out of this world so so delicious. Will definitely be back here again in the near future. So thank you so much for everything 😁

We had the best night ever, everything was really good, the staff, the food and the service. The room was really clean and had everything we needed. A big thank you to the chef who went above and beyond and made such an amazing food (specially requested), thank you Chris from reception and kemya both were really lovely and friendly. What a delightful place! We arrived right before a wedding and even though they had their hands full, the staff were so kind and eager to please. Beds comfy and food delicious! Seems very secluded, but is only about two miles from the train station.

We had an amazing experience this weekend at Cragwood Country House. The room was decorated for my fiancé’s birthday with balloons and banners. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. We had dinner last night and the food was exquisite. An honest 5/5 experience.

We had the most lovely stay at the Cragwood hotel, it’s a beautiful building set in a stunning part of the Lakes right next to Lake Windermere, with plenty of places to walk nearby. The room we had was beautiful and we had an amazing Michelin style meal — all for an amazing price. The staff were all lovely and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be returning again 🙂 Also loved that it is dog friendly 🐾

We returned home yesterday from getting married here on the 26th August. We can not thank everyone enough for how welcoming they were. Their hospitality was without doubt the best we have EVER received. As a gay couple we are always worried about the welcome we would have upon check in, any funny looks or sniggers from reception or staff. However absolutely nothing. We were 100% accepted for who we were.
Albert, Hannah and every single person we came into contact with we can not thank you enough. You truly went above and beyond catering for our needs. If anyone is thinking of having a wedding here you do not need to think twice.
the food. Holy guacamole the food… James and I both agreed it was the BEST food we have ever had. We didn't get to meet the chef but my god they need commending. A wedding is supposed to be one of the most important days of your life by God its much easier with cragwood by your side.

Four years ago today my husband and I got married at this wonderful hotel, only 5 of us but it was so special, fantastic staff, beautiful location and delicious food and can’t wait to return, memories to cherish 💕

I can’t speak highly enough of this hotel it was truly amazing we got a upgrade as it was my birthday so had room 4 which is the centre room with a huge curved window giving a 180 degree view of the lake. The staff where all incredible. If you want a romantic getaway this is the place to go. We will 💯 be back soon. The food was outstanding. Thank you from amanda & Simon. (Photos are from room 4)

In my view the best hotel in the lakes. Food simply outstanding. Views staggering. A luxury break. Doggies friendly rooms.

The food was really amazing, the pork belly and cheese canapes, sorbet, bread, tomato starter, cornfed chicken main and sticky toffee pudding/chocolate fondant desserts on the evening menu were really well presented, filling and tasted lovely, all the hotel staff were really friendly, the bedroom itself was very spacious but the bathroom was quite small. The view was so romantic and serene on the lake, really enjoyed our minimoon stay.

It was a very mediocre experience. The breakfast was very bland and plain. With a nursing home vibe. The main reception as you drive up has vans sheds and a greenhouse in plain view. The bed was terrible and quite uncomfortable. The attention to detail was quite bad. Thankfully the staff were very nice and helpful, stayed in hundreds of hotels and would rate this 3 out of 5

Lovely staff, gorgeous hotel, easily the most friendly hotel in windermere.

We had our wedding here last week 17th September and everything was amazing! All the staff are very welcoming and give fantastic service, special thank you to Agnes who we spoke with all the way through from booking until our special day, even on the day she was fantastic! The hotel is beautiful and the food is the food was outstanding — breakfast, afternoon tea and evening meal. All our guests commented on how amazing it all was, we cant wait to come back!

Best selling point, wonderful staff who genuinely want their guests to enjoy their stay. Added to that the beautiful location, grounds and building made our visit very special.

Great hotel in excellent location halfway between Ambleside and Windermere. The hotel has fantastic grounds and fabulous views over lake Windermere. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we received first class service from every member of staff, nothing was a problem. All government guidelines for Covid 19 are in place and adhered to with clear signs everywhere. Breakfast was high quality with a wide range of hot choices as well as fruit, yogurt, cereal, croissants, pancakes etc. Rooms were spotlessly clean with super king beds, tea coffee and bottled water. Great 2 night stay.

Just returned from a fabulous two night stay at the Cragwood Country House Hotel and what a wonderful stay we have had. Cannot recommend highly enough… due to a cancellation we were upgraded to the Bridal Suite, which was nothing short of perfection. Location, food, staff… all just stunning. So peaceful, this has been the perfect birthday treat, thank you so much! We will be back!

Our own private dining room as we were a party of 11 for a golden wedding anniversary, decorations, prosecco, handmade chocolates, flowers, lake cruise, afternoon tea. Unbelievable Gourmet food. Staff amazing, a credit to hotel. Room huge overlooking lake Windermere. We will definitley return. Highly recommended.

Fantastic picturesque hotel! Staff were super friendly, food was incredible and we had a great room too. Would love to stay again next time We are in the Lake District.

Where to begin… from the moment we arrived at Cragwood everything was perfect. We booked a ‘just us’ wedding package, Emily was lovely and kept in touch regularly from our initial enquiry right up until the day we arrived. We received such a warm welcome on arrival, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful or welcoming. Our lake view room was amazing! Beautifully decorated and exceptionally clean, it looked brand new and the views were truly out of this world.
The night before our wedding we had a 5 course meal in the dining room, the food was absolutely delicious! Again the staff were exceptional and so friendly yet exceedingly professional and efficient throughout our stay. They even rang our room to check we were okay and to ask if we required anything.
Our wedding day couldn’t have gone more smoothly and was completely stress free thanks to Albert and his wonderful team of staff including Stacey and our two lovely witnesses, David & Pat who work at the hotel. After the wedding we had an afternoon tea which surpassed all expectations! It was delicious and so beautifully presented. The grounds of Cragwood are beyond words, stunning! We had some beautiful photographs taken, both inside and out in the exquisite gardens.
My husband and myself both expressed just how smooth and stress free the day went thanks to the organisation and caring nature of the staff. There literally isn’t one thing we would of changed or could have wished for.

We had the most amazing wedding day at Cragwood Country House on 1st June 2019. It’s easy to see why Cragwood has won the 2019 Cumbria Wedding Venue of the Year! The venue is stunning with beautiful views over the lakes. The staff were so friendly and helpful from start to finish and our guests could not speak highly enough of them. They coordinated the day brilliantly to ensure it all flowed seamlessly and they really couldn’t do enough for us. Also the food was delicious, we had lots of very happy guests. Can’t recommend this venue highly enough! It is a day we will never forget.

The whole experience of my sisters wedding there was amazing. The hotel itself was beautiful, the grounds gorgeous. What actually makes the hotel is the staff. From start to finish the staff could not do enough, they were friendly and helpful and made a fuss of my son who is 7. Particular shout out to Ian who made my son feel included. If that’s not good enough the food is amazing! I did not want to leave and we will be going back, thank you so much XX.

We have just returned from Cragwood Manor after getting married on 5th April. We chose the 'Just two of Us' package and everything was just perfect. The staff were welcoming and attentive from the moment we arrived, and that means ALL the staff. The food was amazing, breakfast, afternoon tea and the evening three course meal, compliments to the chef! The weather on the day was beautiful, and it was no problem to the staff to change getting married from the Blue room to the Gazebo outside overlooking Lake Windermere. We recently spent 2 nights at Cragwood for a ‘just us’ wedding. It was amazing from start to finish. Booking the wedding was easy and the wedding coordinator was in touch via email. She responded promptly to any questions I had and I felt like I hardly had to do anything! On arrival, We were greeted by lovely staff who made us feel welcome and at ease. The room and food was beautiful throughout our stay. On the day of the wedding, everything was very relaxed. We were told what time we needed to be ready for and that was it! Everything was done for us! The rain held off and we were able to get married outside which the hotel staff catered for by placing speakers outside so we could hear our music. The day flowed perfectly and was just amazing! Thank you so much to the staff at Cragwood for making our day very special. Beautiful venue. Relaxed atmosphere. Friendly and professional staff. Everything that we wanted!

Beautiful scenery in well appointed grounds that have walkways down to the lake and a boathouse. Very friendly and helpful staff. Food was very nice and recommended. The rooms were lovely and immaculately clean. Facilities were also very good. Al on all, I do not think ive stayed in a nicer hotel in the lakes. It was also very handy for the local buses travelling around the lakes as the stops were just on the main road outside the driveway. If you're looking for a comfortable stay then this is the place.

We recently stayed at the Cragwood Country House and Hotel for 2 nights for my Birthday, which was a surprise trip organised by my fiancé.
Everything about this place was fantastic, the room was nice and spacious with a super comfy, great big bed. The bathroom facilities were excellent, a lovely walk-in shower with great water pressure, no bath — which after a long day of walking would have been a nice addition, however I'm sure you could probably request a room with a bath if it's that important to you. Our room being a ground floor room meant we had patio doors that walked out straight into the gardens with a lovely little duck pond just outside and a quick 2 minute walk down to the shore of the lake.
Food — the first night we ate in the restaurant, from the set menu. We both had the soup to start, the lamb for main and for dessert my partner had the panacotta and I had the mango semi-freddo (complete with candle and happy birthday message written in chocolate, brought out by singing waiters) Everything we had was so good (and I normally don't really love lamb) the presentation was great and the flavours were beautiful, also the portion sizes were perfect.
The staff — Nothing but praise for this staff team, everyone we met was so polite and helpful. Nothing was too big an ask and they all seem to take great pride in their work.
Location — located right on the shore of Lake Windermere, the location is perfect!

We were treated to a two night break at the Cragwood, on arrival we were made welcome and shown to our huge room with a great view of the gardens and the lake. We ate in on the first night, the staff were really nice, we had a drink in the cosy bar, some canapes and as ever difficulty deciding what to choose from the menu. After being escorted to the dining room we enjoyed a really tasty and very well presented dinner, the staff were excellent it was obviously quite a small team running the dining room and bar but they did it all with a smile and always had time for everyone. Breakfast was brilliant, the full english was delicious as was the scrambled egg and smoked salmon. We had a wonderful stay, everything was spot on, you are in the middle between Ambleside and Bowness, we walked into Ambleside and back. I would go back tomorrow lovely place for a few nights in the lakes, and the gin and tonics were perfect.

Stayed for two nights had a really nice time, the room was huge, plenty of room to move about and well appointed, good sized TV and emperor sized bed, we also had a lovely view along the lake. Food was also good the three course dinner was really nice and very well priced, breakfast was also top notch, if you want to enjoy a drink in the hotel then they have a great selection, and again at good prices. This may sound ideal well if you add in the small team of highly efficient and friendly staff then it is. I would stop again without a second thought.

An absolutely amazing hotel. The food is fantastic, the staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The hotel is perfectly located next to a private path to Lake Windermere. Beautiful, warm real log fires in each lounge, comfy chairs to relax in. The rooms were big, comfy with lovely soft thick towels. Highly recommended.

So, so impressive A beautifully appointed house with marvellous views. The bedroom was luxurious, with coffee machine as well as quality tea making facilities What to say about the food except we thought we had entered a masterpiece scenario. It was so delicious, well presented and served. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Special commendation to a wonderfully entertaining hungarain waiter! We shall return.

Just had a short stay here. We loved it, staff were fantastic the hotel was clean and set in the most beautiful setting. Great little touches in the room, which was warm and comfortable, well done Team Cragwood. Ill be back.

Stayed in a lake view room and had the most amazing 3 course dinner. The food was unexpectedly good and staff brilliant. Very funny and made the night. Love the open fires and gorgeous lake setting. Very dog friendly.

The first thing to notice about the Cragwood is the staff. They are fantastic. Very attentive and courteous. The food is also fabulous. The rooms are nice and clean and quiet. I highly recommend.

Lovely friendly staff, great rooms, lovely grounds. I wasn't too keen on the food, felt they had tried very hard to produce a fancy menu when actually a decent piece of meat would have been accompanied excellently by some carbs and vegetables. Overall though, fantastic place in a great location! We would definitely return!

This was a a star experience from start to finish. The hotel is located right on the edge of beautiful Lake Windermere. There's plenty of space for beautiful walks around the grounds surrounding this historical hotel. You can make it all the way down to the lake. A lake view room is highly recommended. It is so dark at night there's no need to close curtains. This means you can wake up naturally to the sunrise each morning. Tip: Room 4 appears to have the best views. The food is one of the show stopping features. We pre-booked for both dinner and breakfast. That is absolutely the right decision. Robbie was looking after us for dinner. His service was outstanding and amazing. The four course dinner was superb. Vegetarians are well catered for at both dinner and breakfast. Breakfast was one of the best cooked breakfasts I've eaten! Great job everyone involved in looking after us during our stay.

Beautiful setting and scenery. The room was very well appointed and had everything you'd expect. The communal areas and lounges, particularly in the old part of the hotel are gorgeous and have a wonderful atmosphere. The staff really made you feel welcome, and nothing was a problem. I'll definitely be going back.

Cragwood is a beautiful and special place a group of us went for Sunday lunch in memory of a very special couple who had spent 2 joyous occasions there — their sons wedding and their Ruby wedding. The staff and Albert the manager were brilliant and the food was fab. You feel as if it is your home we had a lovely sunny day and it was lovely sitting on the terrace watching the kids and adults playing boules, croquet and football.

This place is beautiful! The hotel itself is incredible with amazing staff. The gardens are impressive and so peacefully. And even they say pet friendly, they really do mean it! Can't wait to come back again and spend a little more time exploring this beautiful area.

We spent Christmas 2016 here and it was fabulous. The hotel is small (20-ish rooms) and in such a beautiful spot high above Windermere. It's a beautiful Georgian house with open fires and wood panelling everywhere. The staff are excellent and the food is top class. It's dog friendly too, if you can't bear to leave your companion at home.

The hotel is nice and has a very impressive interior. We were staying over night and using the restaurant. Food was great. The room had no Wi-Fi coverage and rooms could really use some bottled water. Other than this they stay was very nice.

About 40 mins walk from the center. Room was small. Bathroom walls cracked Telly is small. There was no view to see. Staff polite.

Very difficult to write a fair review on the hotel as I spent 3 days here but outside in the gardens attending an event. But the short time I spent inside was fine, good size rooms for professional events. Very nice location.

We have come to Cragwood for dinner only and were very impressed by the attentive service and the great set menu on offer. The only complaint was lack of desert wine. We will definitely come back if we come to these parts again.

When booking ask for Room 4 — although the bathroom was a little small the room was not and the view was incredible.

The food is freshly cooked, with a wide choice and of the highest quality. The location of the hotel is ideal with the gardens going right down to the lake. This makes it an ideal romantic setting and for those wishing to explore the Lake District.
