Situated in the village of Wolsingham, the Bay Horse Hotel is a converted 19th century farmhouse. The bar is stunning, warm, comfortable, and inviting. The restaurant is small and quaint, giving the option of an intimate diner for two, or as a party. The rooms are pleasantly decorated and en suite. However, there are a lot of stairs so would not be suitable to some. We spent four nights here, and it felt like family. Staying in room two, we had access to the front balcony. The views from this are great. Taking in a beck, bridge, stone cottages and rolling hillsides, it is an ideal place to while away a few hours with a nice glass of wine. Our hosts, Amanda and Rob, were amazing. Friendly and welcoming, they made us feel at home. As we were the only guests mid-week, they allowed us a good lie-in and made breakfast when we went down, rather than a strict timetable. They had great local knowledge on good walks, attractions and events. They could not do enough for us, even offering a fleece blanket so we could enjoy the balcony one cooler evening. Bed and Breakfast starts at around £50; meals are around £10. A well-stocked bar has a wide variety of drinks, beer and such is from Cameron’s Brewery. The Bay Horse is perfect for a drink, meal or short stay. For walkers, it’s ideally sited for access to Weardale. With only a short stroll to the high street, it’s a great place to forget it all, relax, and enjoy some fresh air.

The only pub I’ve been in where your partner is shouted at by the staff for trying to have a conversation while a band plays.
Fair enough some people are there for the music but there was only 2 groups in the bar area, me, my partner and a couple of friends and a couple who looked to be with the band itself!
Yet we where told to be quiet twice in a rude fashion by 2 people behind the bar.
This is after we had all had a meal and a few drinks on a quiet week night!

Brilliant and friendly atmosphere — lovely people and just a great pub.

Went today with my husband for Sunday lunch, we opted for the xmas one, absolutely delicious, best xmas dinner I have ever had, everything was so tasty and the extra touches like the home made roast potatoes, the home made pig in blanket, purple cabbage, parsnip crisps were the perfect touch. Amanda, Rob and Jayne were the perfect hosts, roll on next sunday for a 50 minute drive to do it all again, cause its certainly worth it xx.

What a place, Amanda & Rob are the best ever. The drink is absolutely spot on and the food is to die for.

Lovely cold Moretti and very friendly staff and locals, cosy warm and comfy.

A very warm pleasent pub with very friendly staff who serve out delicious tasty meals and offer splendid wines and real ales.

Fantastic accommodation. Hospitality amazing… We will certainly be booking again soon. Highly recommended.

Fantastic stay! Great hospitality! Could not of wished to be anymore welcomed… Room was super with a balcony (I took advantage of the sunny evening on here with a Gin). Will 100% be back!

Came with 20 hens at the weekend, we had gorgeous food, they even set up the tables for us and then live music to sing and dance to! The locals welcomed us and were lovely.

Your made very welcome as soon as you come through the door. Amanda and rob are very friendly. Fantastic entertainment. And fabulous food. You cant go wrong.

What and amazing place, cosy clean room, a very comfortable bed, such a lovely bathroom, plus great tasty homemade food, and on the top of that we can enjoy a great night in the pub downstairs.

Lovely pub nice and lively on a weekend and cheap food, been the best owners so far by a mile.

Just popped in for a quick drink with my wife. The pub is nicely designed. Had a warm welcome from staff and a local. Nice pint.

Nice pub arranged with separate seating areas, there is also a small seating area to the front of the pub, but this is also used as the smoking area. Couple of real ales on offer together with other beers, wines and spirits. There is a small car park to the front and side of the pub.

Absolutely amazing meal tonight great food great people Amanda and rob are great hosts highly recommend.

Excellent food here. Plenty of choice for GF, V and Syn coded. Food is imaginative and very tasty! Definately will be back.

Best home made pub grub ive had in a long time… had fish and chips and although im not a lover of it I really enjoyed it… 7 clean plates… lovely cosy pub with fires another plus for me and lovely service, have caravan near first time in this pub will now be our regular. Couldn't fault it.

Nice atmosphere. Great to have a pint but the fire after a long day.

Such amazing hospitality. Made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived. Food was piping hot when it came out, all cooked fresh, very tasty and no extra seasoning needed. Snug was extremely comfortable, as was the roaring log fire. Pricing was spot on, and the bar had a vast array of spirits and if you like gin it was heavenly. Landlord and landlady were more than accommodating to requests, and were very happy to help. Will definitely be returning in the ver near future.

Brilliant local pub — good food and welcoming team!

Very attentive staff and friendly, nice clean food and drinks.

Don't know why it took me so long to go here n have a meal, what I do know is I will definitely be back. 6 of us went on Tuesday night and the food was absolutely lovely and not badly priced at all. Would defo recommend and say to people give the place a try. Its nice to have somewhere else in the village that does good food other than the Italians.

Excellent food, excellent service and without a doubt the nicest pint of lager ever! The Yorkshire pudding wrap is to die for! If in the area it's a must go place.

Amazing food and great staff.

We have just been to the sunday carvery. The food was stone cold which was disappointing. However it was tasty and a very good price! 7 of us ate and even with soft drinks it was only £50.55! I would go back again, however I would prefer to go when the food is fresh from the kitchen and a lot hotter!
