Nice location and gardens. This establishment serves good food and drink but us let down by being a bit tired. In need of a little tlc in the bar and in the hotel side of things, some money needs to be invested. Staying for two nights, the hotel room we stayed in was clean but very dated. Housekeeping didn't service the room because they could not get in apparently however we managed just fine. Maybe they didn't want to climb to the second floor? In any case it is a good building that could be great. Would we stay again… Yes. Enjoyed our stay even with the niggles.

Such an amazing place, beautiful building and grounds and the staff are so, so helpful and polite. Stayed in a Classic Double and better than alot of superior and deluxe rooms I've seen in othe hotels. Love the choice of food in the restaurant and the bar/bistro areas in the hotel, simpler selection in the bar but you can tell the utmost care goes into it's preperation. Plus the Garage Spa that's part of the hotel is unbelievable as well, had a basic massage first time and almost fell asleep! There are very few places I would recommend over The Morritt but if you are in Barnard Castle it is the place to stay!

This is a beautiful hotel to have a lovely relaxing break away. We have enjoyed it immensely. The staff are lovely and I feel if you wanted anything it wouldn't be any trouble. We didn't need anytiany as we were very happy. Will definitely come again.

Great place to chill out. The treatments are luxurious and the food of a high quality.

Fab little hotel, stop here for lunch regularly and its always excellent. There's a varied menu including sandwiches and light bites but the Sunday dinners are tremendous. We always eat in the bar which has a great atmosphere and have never had anything other than a great meal here. Reasonably priced, great selection of food and ale and the sticky toffee pudding is amazing! Worth a visit!

Lovely old bar but now very expensive. Nice pint of Landlord but was charged £4.60. Beer served with a 2" head in a pint brim glass. Asked for it to be topped up and it was returned with a 1" head. For that price I would expect a full pint. Not impressed and won't be returning.

Great place, dead end Road surrounded by countryside. Felt at easy as soon as you settle in, plus free dog biscuits at the bar. I preferred the light brown bone shaped ones ;-)

Love this place. Something for everyone and popular all year round. We went for Christmas dinner. Lovely food and excellent service. Great for bar meals ad well. Lively gardens.

Returned to Dickens Bistro which we have visited over many years to find a change of ownership. Such a shame to see many things changed. Service was very hit and miss, we had to search out staff to ask for menus, drinks etc. A limited menu from previous years. Overall the atmosphere just not the same, left feeling disappointed even though the food was good and value for money.

Nice place but a bit mean with the amount of soup and the filling in sandwiches for the price. Today the bread roll was so hard it was inedible. But we still keep going. Garden lovely in the summer. Fire nice in the winter but if they haven't lit it we leave.

£4.60 for a pint of Landlord which is more usually £3.60, served by completely disengaged staff. On the plus side, it was a good drink. The mural in the bar depicts a joyous tavern scene — none if that here. Who would choose to watch a television with no sound while overlaid with dreary piped music from the bar. Two stars solely due to the quality of the beer served.

Wonderful venue in every way. Highly recommend!

Fantastic. The best Christmas lunch for quality of food, atmosphere, and staff, especially Santa who sat with us for a good 10 minutes. Brilliant, generous presents for the children. We've been 4 times now with our elderly father from Barny and will come again. A proper country inn and proud of what they do.

Cannot support any hotel that welcomes murdering hunters on horseback. Very disappointing.

A really good range of treatments, fantastic food and they catered for vegans without fuss. I'm very impressed and looking forward to further visits.

It is a lovely place to stay, the up keep of the cottage we stayed in needs a little TLC but other than that it was very nice.

I cannot give too much detail as to the hotel service as I only attended for a meal with family. However, the food was of extremely high quality and the Hake I had was the best meal I've had in a while. The sticky toffee pudding was also exceptional as it wasn't too sickly like some desserts can be. It was quiet and overall a pleasing experience. 5 stars from mem.

Courteous, helpful staff. Beautifully un-refurbished, classically comfortable hotel just like the ones that seem to have been killed off by the boutique hotels of the nineties. A huge delight to find and stay in. Excellent food in the restaurant with the best cheese souffle I've ever had. Don't tell anyone. It's too good a secret.

We stayed at this hotel for our wedding anniversary, booked overnight stay and to dine at the award winning restaurant (as advertised). We were told that the restaurant is not available but the bar is opened. Receptionist was so rude despite it was their mistake. I would have left the hotel at this point if this was not our anniversary celebration we had planned weeks in advanced. I have to say the Bar staff were very nice and helpful. I would have expected a better service from a hotel that charges so much for overnight stay. Wi-Fi speed struggles to reach 1mb/s.

Lovely hotel, but just feels like a country pub and not worth £145 that we paid. The breakfast wasn't great either, we expected a lot more for £12 per person. This was included in the price we paid.

Great location, but be prepared to wait, this place doesn't rush, good beer and food in beautiful surroundings, outside gardens recommended in the summer (mind you we are talking UK here so don't get too hopeful of seeing the sun)

Bit of a disappointment for the quality of the steak to the price, no choice of chips just skinny fries. Steak was tough so was wife's. Big let down from my last visit.

A regular lunch stop for us on our way to Northumberland for our annual week's holiday. It is always excellent, convivial, efficient and good food. Key too are the efficient friendly staff… adds a lot to any hostelry.

Attended a wedding here, the scenery is beautiful. The bar was fair, not a great choice of beer though.

Awesome place but bar not cheap.

Room was lovely. Food was ok. Staff were great. The was a lot of flys in room and restaurant.

Function facilities were beautiful and wedding staff made the day excellent. However the rooms were dirty and very dated and front of house staff dealing with the checking in and out were deplorable. The hotel side of the venue is a missive let down.

Enjoying our 5th wedding anniversary with beautiful food in a bridal suite and relaxing spa to look forward to in the morning. Thank you my gorgeous husband James X.

Always a friendly welcome at the Morritt! It has a beautiful garden to sit out in and the bar is a must see! Great food too.

Very attractive setting and well appointed and equipped function rooms and grounds. I found the staff very welcoming and professional. As a guest at a wedding reception I expected quite a bit of hanging around and so found the occasional attention from the staff welcome. In the dining room there was an initial long wait for proceedings to begin, but once underway the service staff were efficient, organised, discreet and well mannered. Overall an enjoyable and pleasant experience.

What a gorgeous venue. Was here for a friend's wedding. This place feels high class yet very down to earth at the same time. Lovely.

And that rating is TOO high! Went to lunch there today, arrived at 11:45am, went through to the Dickensian room, waitress did not understand about the meal we ordered served our mineral water and left us for 45 minutes before we asked what was happening to the food we ordered, it arrived stone cold on the plate from being left in the kitchen plated up and not served! This we know as other diners informed us that the staff found this funny. I will be informing environmental health about this. DISGUSTING is an under statement!

Is a very confortable place, small, relax and with a nice atmosphere. The views and the garden are very beautiful. Rrooms comfortable. As well as the bar. You are in the midle of no where!

Simply fantastic! We went for the afternoon tea and were not disappointed! the food was amazing, staff ever so friendly and was well worth the price! I couldn't recommend it more. Id highly suggest booking in advance before you go though. Decor was old and eclectic!

Lovely old hotel and function venue. Very good for weddings. Rooms are small but that's a consequence of such an old building.

Thoroughly enjoyed the short stay while travaling from Inverness defiantly a good find.

We really enjoyed our stay. Room was excellent ('superior'). Was confused by Google location being in the wrong place and showing both Morritt Hotel and Morritt Country House Hotel, when they are the same place.

After visiting this hotel on a few occasions I thought it was about time I shared this fab place with the rest of the world. First time we visited was as a group of six for Christmas lunch, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the food delicious. We have also attended a wedding and WOW what a great venue for your special day, with beautiful gardens and a open and airy Garden room should you wish to have a Civil Ceremony at the Hotel. Since the above visits we have attended a few other times and each time found something new and exciting to love. The most recent being at the Beer Festival where The Morritt Arms have now developed their own special ale named Major Morritt (Namesake of the Hotel) it was a fantastic day! Visiting here is like having your own slice of history.
