Incredible food, excellent service, beautiful location. Highly recommend booking a visit.

You don't allow children, but you allow idiots to lick their plate! I mean in all honesty I would rather listen to a child cry than watch disgusting people lick their plates! also the owner needs to learn good customer service, very very rude! so between plate lickers and a rude owner I wouldn't recommend at all, go somewhere else somewhere where you're made to feel welcome and not made to feel sick!

My husband surprised me with a visit for my 40th birthday. From the second we arrived in the taxi until the moment we left, we were looked after and made to feel so very welcome. We enjoyed the wine paring aswell as the knowledge and experience of all the staff. Food was amazing and every attention to detail was thought of. I would visit again in a heart beat. Thank you so much for making my day so special 💗

A truly amazing experience. As soon as we walked through the door we were greeted by the lovely, friendly and professional staff. All the food was Devine I have to say it was the best meal I’ve had. Every course was explained and wow every course was amazing. We will return. We were seated in the conservatory and the views were stunning even saw a little red squirrel right having his lunch ha. I now know why this place is so busy. Thanks to all the staff at The Cottage in the wood see you soon.

Our first visit won't be our last. The food is phenomenal and the service more than matches it. In fact the attentive service made it extra special. The front of house staff are so knowledgeable and look after your every need. Highly recommended.

The food is tremendous, each dish full of a variety of tastes & textures and they each balance each other perfectly. Clearly a great chef — who knew venison could be that light?

Beautiful food in a very picturesque setting with the conservatory tables offering amazing views. The service was every bit as good as the cuisine and the knowledge of the staff with regards to the wine flight was very impressive.

My partner and I have just had a beautiful stay at The Cottage in the Wood. I am currently heavily pregnant, so comfort was at utmost importance and I was absolutely not disappointed. The rooms are cosy, comfortable and immaculately clean.
The staff are all absolutely wonderful; they cannot do enough to help and made sure they appropriately had a laugh and served with a great big smile (visible even behind the masks! ). You can really tell they love their jobs.
The food was unbelievable. My partner and I both had the tasting menu (which was adapted to suit dietary requirements without us even needing to ask! ) it was all sensational. Breakfast was equally as delicious! Thank you so much for such a lovely, relaxing stay. We will be back!

Well what can I say! Our second visit to the Cottage for lunch and boy did it not disappoint! Beautiful, luxurious, amazing, tasteful, delicious and fanflippingtastic food! Chicken, scallops, sea bass and cheeses all accompanied with wine suggestions for me (husband driving oopsies) … dear god I thought I had died and gone to heaven! Lovely knowledgeable service that took us away from the madness we are under even if it was just for two hours! Finally a Michelin just half hour from Workington! Well done Cottage and see you in the New Year!

I proposed back in october at the cottage in the wood they could not have been more helpful, made it so much easier to relax, food was fantastic and they even treated us to a complimentary glass of champagne each to celebrate after I popped the question. I spoke to them a few times on the run up to the day via email and nothing was any trouble for them! Brilliant restaurant in a stunning location would highly recomend we are planning on returning and staying in one of the rooms next time after the wedding next year as a pre honeymoon treat. Thanks to all the staff there.

From the wonderful customer service that I received when ordering gift vouchers, I can imagine that the lucky recipient will have an amazing stay. Kath was most helpful and quick to respond to messages and calls. The wooden gift vouchers and finishing touches are unique and very pretty. Thank you very much for all of your help.

A hidden treasure is the only way to describe this place. Just had a 3 night break stay at 'Cottage in the Woods' and would like to say a big thank you to Kath and Liam and all the wonderful staff for a most memorable stay.
We were greeted with a very warm welcome and shown to our cottage room, which had all the facilities required plus lots of little extras. Exceptional food and presentation with Ben and his team showing passion commitment and pride in their skills they are truly worthy of the Michelin star status. If you want peace and tranquility, nestled in beautiful grounds and woodland, a place to relax, recharge and indulge then we would highly recommend a stay here. We will definately be returning until then keep safe.

Me and my partner went to The Cottage In The Wood yesterday and from the moment we walked through the door until the moment we left we were welcomed and treated like royalty.
Every single aspect of our stay was faultless.
From playing games by the fire. Jacuzzi bath… spectacular views… service from all the staff… the food… OMG THE FOOD! It was out of this world.
We checked in at 3pm and left the next day at 11am after a lovely lie in and beautiful breakfast.
Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff.
We are already planning our next stay!
I have never stayed and ate anywhere as perfect as The Cottage In The Wood.

What a hidden gem! My husband and I recently celebrated our first wedding anniversary here and enjoyed every minute. Excellent service, beautiful location and the food is to die for! we will be back very soon!

Just had an exquisite meal (and breakfast! ) at The Cottage In The Wood. Had a warm welcome and excellent service from very friendly staff. Stayed in the delightful Garden Room from where you can watch the local wildlife. Highly recommend for anyone fancying treating themselves to something special in the Lake District.

Absolutely loved this place, I had a birthday meal there 28th July 2019. The greeting was amazing and we were looked after very well. I can't recommend this gem highly enough. The food was amazing the presentation was superb. If you want treat someone this is the place to go. You won't regret it. The best place I've been to in the lakes. Thank you for making the evening perfect xx.

Lovely lovely food. Good wine combos two with intersting taste combinatioms. Beer selection could of been more intersting but kept to philosophy of local so ok with that. Wines good varied and interesting. Even coffee nice too. Price ok and standard for this sort of quality. Venue nice with nice outside space for relaxing pre meal. Bit worried if I give it too good a review will struggle to get space next year but let's face it they deserve the praise and I respect their philosophy of raising the standards of British food. Fantastic restaurant in a beautiful mountain setting. The food and service was exceptional.

I’d like to give 3.5 stars. The food is very good, and so is the service, the environment / interior is very bland and doesn’t match the price point of the restaurant. My main issue is the price is vastly inflated compared what you get. We ate here 3 years ago and did the tasting menu with wine pairing. Tonight we did the same but it’s now 25% more expensive but with no improvement in terms of quality or quantity. I don’t mind spending money on good food and wine but I feel maybe the management are being slightly greedy and need to re-establish their offering. An example would be the £65 per person tasting menu doesn’t include a cheese course, but they try to charge £10 pp extra for it, Which seems unnecessary. Overall it’s a good meal but having spent £250 for two people I did leave feeing overcharged and slightly underwhelmed.

What a fantastic place, had a delicious dinner, very comfortable night and the best breakfast ever, friendly service — lovely people Can't wait to go back for some more r&r (icing on the cake was watching a red squirrel enjoy breakfast on the feeder whilst we were enjoying ours)

I have already left a 5-star review on TripAdvisor. This place is an absolute hidden little gem. It has the most amazing surroundings with walking, cycle routes and views galore. The food is fantastic, we knew it would be good due to the rating and the reviews but it was a picture on a plate, yet also so hearty and filling. The staff and owners are so welcoming and friendly and helped make our stay a stand-out. I stayed at The Cottage in the Wood and proposed to my now fiance on a trip around Ennerdale Water and the staff were so accommodating and helped make this trip special! We will 100% be back for anniversaries! You honestly won't regret staying here.

Outstanding restaurant. We stayed there for one night in May. There is a real warmth and homeliness to the building especially when tea/coffee and flapjacks are served in the late afternoon. The meal itself was faultless. Every course building in the last and all perfectly cooked, seasoned, presented well and most importantly tasing fantastic. The breakfast was also superb. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Three things stood out, the people, the service and the food. It is a fantastic place tucked away — er — in the woods — but very much worth seeking out. They do a three course meal at a very reasonable price for the exquisite combination of flavours and textures we were served.

Fab little find. We used this as a last minute get away and we weren’t disappointed. Really a restaurant with rooms we were made to feel very welcome and really enjoyed the breakfast. Stunning location, a bit off the beaten track but that was fine for us. Would highly recommend.

We had a fantastic time here in August on our 'Foodie' trip through the North. Our stay was sandwiched between L'enclume and Holbeck Ghyll, and in terms of the food it certainly wasn't hidden. While L'enclume has the theatre and 'experience' aspect of dining, what Kath and her small team produced was nothing short of incredible, and of the three places we stayed I had the best thought out meal in terms of flavours, textures and produce here. The accommodation and location were also fantastic, with stunning views towards Skiddaw. If we're ever back in the Lakes again, we will certainly be stopping again.

Good B&B with a fantastic restaurant and great views and run by people who can't do enough for you.

Brilliant hotel located on Whinlatter Pass in Whinlatter Forest. No mobile phone signal so peace is guaranteed but they have landlines and Wi-Fi should you be in need of contact with the world. The owners are very friendly, welcoming and clearly have a passion for their business and the staff are a credit to this too — you're welcomed as though you're a close friend or family member coming to visit. The food is of excellent quality and made with local ingredients as much as possible. Rooms are well appointed and cosy, beds comfortable and en suite. Keswick is a 10-15 drive away. In short this hotel is a must and I find it difficult to fault on anything really, it's not the cheapest hotel I've stayed in but the price is a bargain for the quality of accommodation, welcome and food. We have stayed twice and will certainly be back!

The cottage in the woods captures everything you think of when you hear the name with the addition of superb service, fabulous food and ran by a team that not only love their surroundings, they want to make sure you do as well. Fine dining using local produce is probably understating their offering, their attention to every detail would lead me to believe this well oiled machine always has an empty plate returned to the kitchen. Both the taster menu and the al a carte are both winners in our opinion. Simply Superb. Thank you! Ben & Lizzie.
