Friendly staff great food lovely atmosphere reccomended stay.

We visited for Mother’s Day lunch (12pm opening booking) However due to the really bad service and attitude of staff we left earlier than planned. We waited over an hour for our starters to arrive, after I had chased a few times. We were then informed by a waitress they had lost our order! Our 4yr old son was really struggling with the long wait so I said we will just leave but the passive aggressive apology of ‘I apologise but we are busy’ we received from the gobby, tall waitress who said ‘well your mains are being plated up now if you want them! ’, we stupidly stayed to eat our lunch. The roast was nice, but not to the same standard from years ago. Our son’s child roast dinner didn’t even have any roast potatoes on it and only about 5/6 peas and carrot slices. We left without having dessert to get our son settled (he had only eaten French fries as over hungry and dysregulated from the loud music). We also had a poor attempt at an apology from the owner Della too. Saying quite rudely without any compassion ‘I apologise but we have new staff’ and that ‘they would have found our order’ but for 1hr 10 we didn’t have anything arrive at our table nor were we asked how we were, I had to chase. ‘I apologise BUT’ is not a genuine or acceptable apology. I don’t think paying customers should be spoken to like this.

Don’t get me wrong — the food is lovely. (Well, Sunday lunch is as that’s all we’ve had) Great cooked food, great portions and tasty. It’s such a shame the service doesn’t match. This is the second time we have attended for Sunday lunch. The first time we were still in a semi lockdown having to eat outside so we put the poor service down to everyone learning. After attending for a second time yesterday it’s just not the case. There’s no management structure and young adults serving who clearly would rather have a chat with their friends/colleagues than provide customer service. We had to wait 15 mins for our drinks order to be taken after we arrived. Then a further 15 minutes to order food. Our food arrived one hour after our reservation! Whilst the food was lovely, the service was appalling. I found it funny that when booking our reservation for 12.15 we were told they would need the table back by 2. Because of the slow service that wouldn’t have been possible. Our waitress gave us the dessert menus, there was a total of 3 desserts to choose from. After a 10 minute wait she came back to take our order. When we went to order the desserts we were told that that particular dessert was not available. It would have been helpful if she had said one of three desserts was not available at the beginning to save ourselves needlessly sitting there. My husband had to go to the bar to order more drinks because our waitress never came to check on us.

Absolutely loved our meal here. Staff friendly and helpful. Fully reccomend to anyone. Will definitely come back. Thank you for a great time.

Popped along yesterday for some food in the evening. Wow. The food is amazing! The staff are really friendly as well. Will be back again for sure.

Fantastic food cooked to perfection wood and coal fired grill menu gives the food a real EDGE lots of improvements going on, this will soon become fenlands jewel in the crown well done john and della.

First night out since the first lock down and to celebrate a 40th birthday. A few teething problems on arrival with drinks however that can happen anywhere but as always food was exceptional from start to finish service from all members of staff excellent and friendly a place that feels like home from home we will be back and would recommend to all friends and family to visit thanks see you soon.

Amazing food for everyone. John gives as much attention to the veggie options as he does the meat — unlike other local competition who won't even remove a sausage roll from an afternoon tea!

Honestly one of the best Sunday roasts I’ve had! Veggie option was delicious — apparently the beef was good too!

After a fairly treacherous drive we made it home with our roasts. Fab food as always. Worth driving through the snow for!

In response to the nomination scheme you ran — thank you, thank you, thank you. You made a couple extremely happy this afternoon. A freshly cooked hot meal, as well as a desert delivered to their door.

Booked on a complete whim after deciding neither of us could be bothered to drive back home. Rocked up at 8pm and was met by Ian the barman who instantly made us feel welcome. We Wasn’t going to have a drink in the bar but because of him we decided to. After leaving the bar we headed back to our yurt ⛺️ which was absolutely brilliant all lit up with fairy lights and again very welcoming and homely. After a good nights sleep headed back to he restaurant area for what I can only describe as a absolutely amazing full English! And my wife said the best vegetarian breakfast she has ever had. We then found out that the owner /head chef had previously came second on “masterchef” so no wonder! All in all a brilliant stay at a great place HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This is my new favourite place! It has everything you could wish for. The rooms were lovely, the service was perfect and most of all the food was heaven. As a vegan I'm usually not serve the greatest food but at this place I got to enjoy one of the tastiest and delightful breakfasts of my life. I would absolutely recommend it and I am sure I'll visit here again! (Tipp: try the mushrooms on a toast! )

This is our second trip to dog in a doublet. Unfortunately it will be our last. After our first experience which was good I have to say that after finding a one and a half inch piece of lettuce core in my salad, and after complaining the waitress promptly removed it to show the chef. Absolutely no apology or any thing was mentioned from the kitchen! The meal itself was mediocre at best and certainly didn't reflect the standard expected from a ' gastro pub.

Great food at the Sunday carvery. The meat was delicious. They were busy so there was a bit of a wait between courses for which they apologized. Came to about £22 a head for 2 courses and drinks for 4 of us.

We have been for their tasting menu twice now. This was an absolute bargain off groupon. Some of the best food we have ever eaten. Friendly waiting staff. We even got a free shot before leaving. Can’t wait for the new tasting menu to come out. We will definitely be going back here again. Only down side would be the somewhat limited parking and that there is only 1 ladies toilet.

Disappointing meal. Please note there is only carvery served on Sundays although I could not see this was made clear on the website and it took 3 members of staff to finally confirm nothing else available but roast dinner, although I was offered a pie at one stage but then told no pie. This would be OK but on a hot day and an even hotter restaurant with heat from the hot plates was not that tempting. The roast meat was lovely and tender and well prepared but everything else a little over-cooked and the worst thing it was very salty. They call you up table by table so no queuing which is great, but when we got called there was very little left in the way of vegetables and they didn't look or taste that fresh, bear in mind this is a one trip carvery, so if things are low or not that fresh there's no chance to pop up again once things are refilled. Quite slow service and a lot of the staff were young, weren't able to take drinks orders or tell us what was available on the menu, so we had to wait for an older member of staff to come and see us. Desserts start from £6 so expected great things, my brownie (£7) was described as served soft was in fact under-cooked/raw brownie mix so most I had to leave. My sister in law had plain chocolate ice cream with some penny sweets on top which was £6. We felt disappointed and ripped off.

Really cool place, something very different! Owners and staff were spot on, very clean and comfy and the food is excellent just wish I'd been there longer to eat more of it… Thanks, will definitely be back again.

Just spent a night at the Dog in a Doublet and had the most relaxing enjoyable experience! The food was absolutely amazing, staff very friendly and the room was clean and comfortable I would highly recommend this place for a visit! Just wish I lived nearer so I can eat there more often.

Great night glamping! Comfy bed, electric, in tent tea making facilities, extra bedding lovely breakfast this morning! Veggie option, was good yge chef asked what I wanted and how I liked my eggs done, yummy!

Amazing food. Fantastic service. Food was a little slow to come out but was worth the wait. Sasha was fantastic with my kids. Can't wait for our next visit.

Perhaps unfair that we went while they were undergoing building work, so it was a little noisy. Staff were a bit unwilling to serve and kept talking about not wanting to be there, not very professional. Food was OK, crisps seemed home made which was a nice surprise!

So so disappointed. We really loved this place. We've been often over the last few years and always treated to delicious food in a quirky venue, well worth the drive out. Booked tonight saying I would need the vegan menu (there used to be a separate menu with several choices) only to get there and find the menu has changed and they no longer do a dedicated vegan or vegetarian menu. There was only one choice for my main course which was very salty and overpriced, my husband's meat option also left a lot to be desired, as did the afters. We were told there was a new chef and chef/owner John had moved on to other things. So sad to say it really shows — the new menu is rather unimaginative whereas you could always tell how much love and care John put into the food he created and was proud to serve you. Service was dreadful too, the worst we've experienced there, in the past the service didn't always live up to the food but tonight it was equally disappointing. Gutted to say our favourite eatery is now off our list and we don't plan to be back.

Just been for a delicious dinner with my partner. Friendly welcome, comfortable and clean surroundings even though they are currently doing some decorating. Can't fault the service and the food. Would recommend.

Fabulous 10 stars food is delicious. Disabled access children are really made welcome and the staff are so helpful nothing is too much for them. Definitely going back again. Highly recommend you book in advance.

Very very good. Called in advance to say that we were coming within 30 minutes of closing and it wasn't a problem. Cost of meals were higher than expected, but it was worth every penny. Very tasty and well presented. I highly recommend. Jewel of a place.

The food here is excellent rivaled only by the incredible service. Staff that can't do enough to make your experience perfect. The chef patron is a lovely guy and obviously very passionate about food and hospitality in general. I would recommend this pub to anyone who loves food and is out for that something a bit special. I would be very surprised if a Michelin star isn't too far away.

Food not as nice as last time. Beans were bottom of pan and dry. Toast was hard as bricks. And eggs not splashed so yolk was a bit snotty for my taste. However husband loved it all.

I really loved this place. It has a quirky feel to it with a sort of petting zoo out back and a very pretty river out front. The food is excellent. The rooms are very nice and I really loved the actual grass on the balcony.

My husband and I went out for a special meal and we were somewhat disappointed. The interior needs a revamp. The ladies' toilet was dirty. As for the food, my starter of baked brie was undercooked, the cheese was still as it normally is, slightly melted at the edges, the pastry very dry. The main of furry potatoes and fish sounded nice but the potatoes were overheated when reheated and the fish went cold. So it could have been great but wasn't after which we just went to have pudding somewhere else. My husband's starter of prawn cocktail was very nice. So, wasn't outright bad but needs lots and lots of improvement.

Excellent food friendly staff had a good laugh with the Chef about the menu. Nice warm cosy setting. First time in there will definitely be going again.

Great pub and really good value hotel, had a lovely stay and would highly recommend! The little farm out the back is an added bonus.

I absolutely love food — but EVERY morsel of this 8 (+1) wonder had me wanting more. Service was friendly and fast (admittedly they weren't that busy) and watching the chef conjure up these dishes of delight was a pleasure. I definitely will be visiting again. A+++

We booked a budget room in this hotel and were horrified at the room we were given. We were told on arrival, not before that it was an unfinished contractors room. But what it actually was, was a dirty dangerous and cluttered nightmare. We tried to book a different hotel but none were available. The floor was in pieces (varying between plastic floor tiles, blown laminate, stained carpet and bare floor). It was full of discarded and damaged furniture, the shower had exposed pipes and open ground behind it, the plaster board was unpainted in places and unplastered everywhere. There was a partially demolished stage at one end of the room with a sofa and a single bed on it. There was a door to what we think was a kitchen prep area at the end of the bed with an unbolted bolt we had to close to lock ourselves in. Breeze blocks on the floor and total clutter that we had to move just to be able to navigate the room safely. There were bits on the floor and cobwebs everywhere. One of the windows was broken. This room should not have been available to rent under any circumstances. The only reason this has two stars is because the linen was clean. The bed comfortable, and the shower really good. The food was excellent but since I cried all the way through my meal I did not enjoy it. I have now awarded one star as they have failed to respond to my complaint.

Came here not expecting much, I haven't eaten here in years. I was blown away by how good the food was. We had the 8 course vegetarian taster menu and it was some of the best food I have ever been served. Well done to the staff, we will now be regulars and will bring friends! Edit. Brought friends along and got told the 241 menu offers advertised on their website was not available thought we may as well stay but then one of us got the wrong dish. Food again was really good. Review edited from 5 to 3 stars due to false advertising. If you are going to offer something to pull the punters in at least follow it through.

Fantastic food. Met with our friends tonight who were staying and had an enjoyable evening. Barman was great as was the Czech beer. A great place to visit and dog friendly.

Stayed for the night. Reason? We were going to a birthday bbq. Hence only three stars — we didn't eat here so cant rate what is, for this place, a very important aspect. Had breakfast — food was fine, but hey — it was a fry up. Breakfast service was well clunky to begin with but smoothed out eventually. Having to order your breakfast night before is not convenient. Breakfast service starting at 9am is, let's be honest, simply not goid enough for guests with things to do, places to be. That said staff were fantastic and our room was clean and charming. We'd DEFINITELY stay again. Might have to skip breakfast to get on with our day though.

Visited here for a 50th wedding anniversary and quickly regretted it. My uncle an Dad had rib eye steak that was very gristly. My uncle tried to tell the waitress but after talking to the chef, they said it should be like that! You can't treat customers like that and expect them to return. We won't be back!

John and Della always go out of their way, to ensure you have a great experience at this place. I've been coming here since it reopened, a credit to the Whittlesey and Peterborough area. Great food and pleasant experience all through.

The food is amazing here, quite expensive but really worth it. The chef is a local celebrity (masterchef finalist I believe) and quite a character. I can recommend a taster menu as it really shows off the chefs skills. The place itself has a rustic charm and is in a cool location. The B&B is good too and recently expanded, the view from the rooms is poor but the decor is high quality. Overall its great value especially when is includes breakfast (best black pudding I ever tasted).

Amazing. We booked our room online and I later rang to discuss the booking with a member of staff, it was my partners Birthday and was a last minute booking as we were sky diving the next day. I spoke to John whom was very polite and helpful. Originally, traveling from South Yorkshire we didn't plan to get there until after opening hours. It was lovely how John said for us not to worry as he will arrange for someone to stay behind to see us in. Because of how helpful John was being before we'd even got there, we changed our plans and got there in time to have some food. We was looked after by two lovely ladies and enjoyed some local ale while waiting for our food. The effort gone into the food is second to none, the presentation is the first thing that will get you, beautiful. The taste, amazing. Lovely atmosphere, lovely food and drinks. Can't beat it. The room we stopped in was lovely, very comfortable and met our every needs. To top it off, the staff were kind enough to leave us our breakfast in a pack up for the next day as we would be gone before they began serving, which we very much enjoyed on our way to the sky diving airfield. Thank you everyone for all of your help and such a wonderful time! On another note, the fact that this place caters for vegans for every dish on the menu is just fab!

Massive wait for food (about 1.5hrs before starter came). Saw the manager being very aggressive and rude to some other customers, the girl left crying. Our food was cold when it eventually arrived. If it was hot and timely it would still have been overpriced! Ordinarily I would've explained I wasn't happy but I'd just seen the trouble some others had. Overall: Food — mediocre, (would've been good if hot). Service — waiting staff OK, management very bad. Location — out in the sticks Would not revisit!

Sunday lunch was spot on, great variety of meats and veggies. Yorkshire puddings were huge and nice friendly atmosphere!

This is a warm and friendly gastropub. Management and staff knowledgeable and helpful. Meals are fantastic. Great selection of beers, wines and soft drinks.

Eaten here a good few times now and sometimes you can wait a while for your food. On our latest visit at lunch though it was very quick. Food is very good and just £10.95 for a courses at lunch.

Its choice of three finishes of beef: rare, which was fabulously tender, medium and well done. That is perfect for people who like their roast beef cooked to their preference. Further meats to choose from. Today I had roast ham coated with Maple syrup. Another satisfying taste. Good selection of veggies too.

Went to have the 8 course vegan menu at this pub. Excellent food and great service. Such a shame that we only discovered this place now. Would definitely go again and highly recommend it!

Interesting menu and looks great for food, we just had a drink of the home made cider… an acquired taste! But at £5 a pint drank it anyway!

If there's a better Sunday lunch, then I've never had one anywhere.

We had an 8 course taster meal. There were 1 dish we didn't like but otherwise it was amazing. We will go back again and definitely recommend it. It nice to go to a pub/restaurant were they care about the quality, the taste and it's value for money. The staff were really friendly.

The restaurant was busy tonight, so there was a fair wait for both courses, but the wait was certainly worth it! I had the Pie Of The Day — the interestingly named Shin and Shiraz — and an Eves Pudding. The Pie was deconstructed, but the dish looked great and the meat and sauce were both excellent. The Eves Pudding was superb too. All in all an excellent meal at a very fair price — the dishes were barely more expensive than a standard pub, the the quality was vastly superior. Well worth 5*.

Probably the best restaurant in the PE postcodes for quality and value for money. Inventive interpretations of classic pub food, it's rare to find the same item twice. Best to arrive on a very empty stomach, especially for Sunday lunch.

We stayed overnight in our motorhome when going to the Peterborough show. We had a lovely meal in a lovely relaxed atmosphere — we had our dog with us so ate in the bar area and then sat on the comfy chairs. What stood out most was how friendly and helpful all the staff were, the Manager even giving us his mobile number in case we had any problem while camping overnight. We parked on the hard standing by the horses, black ducks and miniature goats — including two very young kids which were running and jumping all over the place, it was great fun. We would most definitely return again.

I have been to quite a few of the local fine dining and reputable restaurants around and outside Peterborough. I have long been trying to persuade my wife to go to The Dog in A Doublet, but something always popped up. Last night was my 41st Birthday and I had suggestions from one of my family who will remain anonymous that we should go to the Golden Arches Franchise. I could have cried when they said this it was my 41st I wanted to go somewhere really nice that made you feel welcome and had a really great atmosphere and served good quality food but had sensible prices. I fell into my usual trap — of going through my head and thinking of all the usual Peterborough Pants Pubs as well as considering some of the local Franchised establishments all of which serve a meal of blah blah blah taste and quality. I was getting to the point of no return when I thought about "TDID" I had to do a quick Trip Advisor check not for me but for the unnamed one in the family to reassure their fears of where we would be going for my 41st. On arrival we were greeted by some tall bloke with a beard he was really welcoming and made us feel at ease (didn't realise it was one of the main peeps who run the place) from that moment onwards it was great service by lovely helpful staff and service with a smile but a laugh at my familys issues and confusion about what to order.

Loved the food loved the service meat eaters and veggies I recamend this pub.
