Me and a few friends booked the work desk spaces for our nursing exams this week. We each had our own socially distanced table. I cannot fault the staff and service at the Ely at all and would highly recommend. The staff were warm welcoming friendly and attentive and I will definitely be booking again for future assignments for as long as this deal is going. Thanks so much all of you, you made stressful exam time a lot easier for us.

The Pub Work Desk is a great way to have a change of scenery. I was there this morning with 3 of my friends. We all loved to have a little chat but also did actually work… Great service & value for money. Brings a bit of sanity back to your life.

Lovely welcome, lovely service, lovely staff. Our food off the festive menu (Xmas dinner) turkey, was horrible, Yorkshire’s like rubber, couldn’t cut very well, just a flat looking basic meal. Did expect a better meal to be honest. Urm the shortbread pudding was dry and the choux bun wasn’t brilliant, but the ton of cream inside disguised it. My meal off the festive menu was beef bourguignon it was lovely.

A friendly and relaxed evening, friendly and friendly staff along with good procedures to keep us safe.

We were a table of 7.5 of us ordered the signature hunters chicken. When we started eating it had no bbq sauce, as described on the menu. We mentioned this to a waitress who brought out 2 pots of bbq sauce! we asked for mayo to be told they do not have any. The desserts well quite a few not available. Ordered the triple brownie. When it turned up we were then told there was no chocolate sauce. Part of the triple choclate brownie. If we had known this prior we would have ordered something else. We felt rushed at the end and the waitress seemed put out that 3 people paid by card. We will not be visiting again… UPDATE Chris Mossop well done for how you handled our complaint your customer service was 100% we will be returning thank you.

Out of a group of over four tonight we weren't overly impressed & won't be returning.
Most of the meals were not of a good standard… basic condiments unavailable & sauces missed or tasteless. Watery salad & some staff generally quite rude & clearly uncaring.
My meal wasn't very hot either & a couple of glasses were dirty.

Great food service was brilliant.

Nice place but the service and the kitchen are very slow. We were waiting one hour for one scotch egg and we supposed to wait another 15-30 min for main. We decided to to don’t wait and leave. The server didn’t charge us the drinks. Maybe we gonna give a second chance in the future.

50 wedding anniversary cream tea party. Great food and venue. Especially Lynn who went that extra mile made it a perfect afternoon. Xxx.

We have been there three times now in the last six months and everytime I found the staff rude. We called up and made a booking. When we arrived the booking hadn’t been made. The waiter does not seem to like children or pushchairs because the minute I mentioned a pushchair his attitude seemed to change. The wine was awful and when we enquired about whether it was a Sauvignon blanc the waiter got such an attitude. He was short, abrupt and rude. He went and grabbed the bottle and when we said it was awful he brought another glass, dumped it in front of me and said that’s all we have. How can such a big pub om have two Sauvignon Blancs on their wine list? The funny thing was that at no point were we even given a wine list to choose from. We then ordered lunch, including a sharing platter to have as a starter between three of us. The platter itself was reasonable. But when my medium — rare steak arrived it was still mooing. At that point, I decided I had had enough. We went out to ENJOY some lunch and literally from the minute we arrived till the minute we left it was just awful. Not worth the time or money in my opinion.

Had a great festive meal last night, food was great and plenty of it, service was excellent, check back was good, the young lady serving us was friendly and when we said we were chillyby the windows she willingly let us move, definitely recommend.

Great staff that care about your experience. Sometimes things don't go to plan but these guys fix it.

The bar staff were very surly, gave the impression they didn’t want to be there and the customer service training session must have been on a day the staff were not working.
I had to clear the table of empty glasses and my friends who are staying there tonight were not impressed with their meals.
In addition apparently there was no orange juice or lime cordial for non alcoholic drinks, yet breakfast includes orange juice? I hope those staying don’t want orange juice, they will be very disappointed.

Really enjoyed the stop over we were on route to Southampton. Arrived approx 8.15 the restaurant and gardens were filled with guests but it was quiet. Meal was exactly what we needed then to our room was really nice and the bed so comfortable and quiet. Good breakfast.

Adele was amazing. Fab night all around. Food excellent. Friendly and attentive staff.

Came here yesterday for dinner with a friend, was seated quickly but then had to ask for a waitress every time we wanted something! Also ordered 2 sundaes for dessert, when taking a mouthful of cream it didn’t taste right — complained to waitress for her to tell us they’d already had a complaint about it and that actually it was out of date! she offered to get new ones without cream and then proceeded to bring the wrong desserts back! Would not recommend.

Comfy beds. Wanted nothing more and they delivered.

Went for dinner walked in seated very quickly, then left to wait. There was only 3 tables already eating when went in so not over busy. We waited 10 minutes then to have the Waitress take drinks orders off 2 tables that were seated after us, when we said could we order she said 2 minutes. We waited a further 10 minutes while she was doing other drinks order… have just walked out first visit and wouldn’t go back.

Tried to order 3 different soft drinks from the menu before finally finding one they had in stock. Nice environment inside however.

Cosy, newly refurbished rooms. Great food and friendly staff. Brilliant value hotel.

Large pub and hotel on the A30. Good sized outdoor seating area and inside is a bar and restaurant area. Standard pub food which was decent enough and good for lunch or dinner. Outdoor tables and ashtrays weren't cleaned when we were there.

Amazing service, delicious food and a great savers menu if you want to save some pennies! I loved the pate, it had butter on top and a lovely compote.

Really disapointed. I booked a table for 5 people for dinner on Saturday the 16th of June. I spoke to a guy called George who I spoke to at 2pm and he confirmed I would have a table for 7pm for five people. We turned up as a family after coming from different areas to meet for what should have been a nice dinner to be told there was no table booked and there was nothing they could do to rectify it. Really disapointed.

Recently stayed at the Ely for a wedding. The place was clean and tastefully decorated. Food was excellent and the atmosphere was great. The drawbacks were that while beds were nice, clean and comfy, the ventilation was poor. For 2nights that we stayed, we didn't sleep too well because kept waking up to a soggy pillow due to lack of air or airconditioning. Window only opened a fraction. (conferred with other guests and they complained of the same thing). Secondly, they don't provide a toilet brush to use for toilet bowl if you have a running tummy and made a mess. Even though they have chambermaids to clean up in the morning, I like to remove any soiling that doesn't flush with a brush. Its very embarrassing to leave it like that until the chambermaids arrive in the morning. The banquet room was also too hot because of a lack of cross ventilation.

Definitely one of the best hotels I've stayed in over the last few weeks. Nice clean rooms, attentive staff and good food. Definitely recommend.

Bog standard pub food, just little more pricey,, had to have my knifes changed as both you dirty and covered in dry food,
was ok place for the visit of family meal,
staff was ok.

No Jamie Oliver but reasonablefood at reasonable prices, dog and child friendly and good service.

Food was good but had to wait a while at the Carvery as there were no staff there to serve the food.

The hotel is tastefully decorated but sadly the cleaning standards were low. Breakfast was included but the 'Very English Breakfast' would leave you wanting and there was old food in the spout of the teapot. It could be a very lovely place to stay.

Surprisingly good. Nice atmosphere and decor. Yummy Sunday lunch. Great that you can have dogs in the bar. When you're inside you can't tell it's directly on top of the busy road.

Had the Sunday carvery, the meat was cooked well and the vegetables were hot and had a good flavour. The only downer was the service started off well but we then seemed to be forgotten, a gentleman who was not dressed as one of the staff cleared our plates away and asked if we would like see the desert menu, 10 minutes later we had to ask another person for the menu.

Stayed at the Ely having hosted a birthday party in the function room. The function room was perfect for our needs and the staff who attended to us were excellent. The room at the Ely hotel was comfortable and very clean, the staff on the front desk were friendly and very helpful. Unfortunately due to my medical condition I had to book the room for a second night as could not leave due to my symptoms — the staff were very understanding and dealt with everything really quickly. I was due to join my family for the Sunday carvery but again could not leave my room — again the amazing staff stepped in and brought over my carvery meal to the room for me (which was very tasty). Could not fault the service at all, absolutely excellent.

Have visited a few times now & can recommend. Great food at a reasonable price. Lovely carvery & nice staff.

You get what you pay for. 2nd time we’ve had scallops starters, 2nd time they were not hot. It’s basic pub grub, nothing special. However the evening was spoilt by a large group of adults who thought it was fine for their young children to treat the place like a playground. We spoke to the waitress afterwards who told us that they had to dodge around children playing on the floor while they carried hot plates of food. It was an accident waiting to happen which fortunately didn’t. I don’t think we will be coming back again.

The hotel is terrible. Someone smoked in the room. I asked to be moved and the front desk clerk said the hotel is booked. Then just stared at me. The heater in my friend’s room doesn’t work. Same clerk said she’ll have a maintenance guy look at it tomorrow. Meanwhile it’s 30 degrees Fahrenheit outside. Smh…

What a lovely place went to a anniversary party at the Ely hotel and stayed. Was perfect. Bedroom's spacious and very clean. The staff are lovely had a wonderful time there.

The food was great value for money. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. Nice ambience. Not particularly fancy but a nice place to go for a meal out without breaking the bank. Will definitely be returning.

My family and I had a very enjoyable meal in restaurant. The carvery was tasty and service from the staff was warm, friendly and they made sure we were taken care of.

I was lucky enough to have won a Facebook completion for a free meal for 2 and free drinks. My husband and I booked our table and arrived early and were seated to our table early. We ordered the sharing platter starter and each decided on the surf and turf. The food was hot and fresh and beautifully cooked. The staff were very good and our waiter Danny was always checking everything was ok. We really enjoyed our evening and will definitely be back soon. Thanks guys.

Booked at short notice. Very pleasant surprise. Nice decor. Comfortable room. Great breakfast choices. Some yoghurt would be nice for next time!

Went there for a Family Birthday breakfast yesterday 31st Dec 17. Booked the day before. Initially had to try and talk to each other over the sound of staff hoovering. Not one breakfast arrived correctly with items on every plate missing and most breakfast arrived cold accompanied now by smell of strong disinfectant as the the cleaner mopped the floors around us as we ate. We were regulars at the Ely until this experience but will not be going there again in a hurry.

Stayed here many times and never disappointed. Staff friendly, good food, rooms clean and comfortable. What more do you need.

Great staff, comfy and modern rooms. Good food, good breakfast. One of the better hotels I have lived at in England since a 3 star in England would only get 1 star in Sweden… But this one actually deserves 3 stars+++

A nice place which managed to accommodate us on a busy Friday night. Food was really nice and the service was good. There was a slight mix up for our daughter's food, where they actually brought out something more expensive than we had chosen, but was cooked from scratch instead of from a jar. I didn't mind paying for it ultimately as my daughter seemed to enjoy it, but our waiter wasn't keen to admit his mistake and wouldn't reduce the charge. I would say make sure you highlight specifically what you want to order from the kids menu so that you get what you asked for! I've given the place 4 stars because of the mistake and how it was treated, but other than that it was fine for an evening meal.

Thankyou for ruining my birthday meal out with my family! After waiting 1 hour and 10 mins for our order of 6 main courses. 5 of them arrived cold, and I mean cold. 1 order had been forgotten so was a further wait! I ordered the sizzling fajitas, it was so cold I could pick up the iron skillet with my hands, I was also served a teaspoon of guacamole and a teaspoon of sour cream, it was a joke. The guys on our table ordered ribs, they more mostly fat and bone. My sister ordered the curry which she was tasty but stone cold.
The reason why we did not send all our meals back was the restaurant was full, so many large partys, we thought we would wait forever, we just ate what we could and then went to another restaurant for some decent hot food as we were all still hungry.
Looks to me like they are taking on more work than the kitchen can handle! Will never visit again!

I had lunch with a friend here yesterday. I had the smoked haddock bake which was very tasty. Good service and reasonable prices. Friendly staff and comfortable surroundings.

Great atmosphere, they allow dogs in which is sweet. (In there own area I believe, so it won't ruin your meal of that bothers you. ) They have a cool deal with coffee and a slice of cake for around £3.50 (roughly! ). It's nice, check it out. Craft your own opinion of the place. :)

Honestly the worst place I've had a roast. Given an absolutely filthy plate to start with (which the chef tried to clean up with his dirty cloth), then they ran out of veg (unless youre an exclusive pea person) and then they microwaved the life out of some broccoli and runner beans and then ran out of half the deserts… Take a breath. "We didn't have enough carrots". Roasts have been offered at this place for over 20 years. Smacks of cutting back on costs and no wonder, the place was dead on a Sunday. The young girl that served us was friendly and polite, the only redeeming part of the day. I might have come on a bad day but I will be advising one and all to avoid. Now it makes sense why they could fit a table of 10 in at short notice. This is my second time here, the first was 5 years ago and nothing has improved. Right, in fairness, the beef was perfect. That's all.

The food was good. Service not bad. Could have been friendlier. Nothing spectacular. Shame really as could be great! The venue is nicely decorated and eady to find.

Nice place, the food from the main menu was great. Great selection and of good quality. The kids menu was not, it was a total contrast from the fresh food from the main menu. My little ones burger was on a toasted bun which was rock hard, assuming it was toasted due to being stale. Beans were microwaved to death. If they up the standard of the kids meals to align with the main menu then it's 5 stars.

We visited for lunch on Saturday afternoon. Service was excellent, main menu had a great choice and the food was really good. The kids meal was the opposite to the main menu which was fresh and of good quality. The kids meal of a cheese burger was rubbish — microwaved beans, burger bun toasted to a crisp (I assume because it was stale). If the kids meal was sorted it would be a five star experience.

The Ely has had a relatively recent makeover, with more space in the restaurant. The kids menu is excellent, and good value for money. The steak succulent and the summer specials particularly tssty. Not the poshest of locations, but good food in a nice friendly environment. Note that the bar is dog-friendly.

Great value for money, surprisingly comfortable and well appointed rooms. Quiet during day and night. Highly recommended. The only extras you will need to bring are a bathrobe.

Liked the hotel very much. Recently redecorated throughout, good size rooms, clean quiet and comfortable. Very smart bathroom. Not at all impressed by the restaurant though.

We went for lunch to the Ely Hotel on a Thursday. There was ample parking, and there was a further car park behind the hotel. Upon arrival we were greeted by a member of staff, who built a rapport with us straight away. The seats were comfortable, the music was not too loud, and the place was not too busy, but definitely not empty as well. The waiters served us on a timely manner and the food was absolutely gorgeous. The food and drinks are worth the price (which wasn't steep either), and the waiters earned their tip. Wpuld absolutely recommend this place for a meal!

The food was lovely but they completely forgot about one of our meals and then later made exactly the same mistake with one of the deserts. Once is sloppy but twice is careless.

Good service and reasonable prices, the restaurant had a best of Britain menu that was serving some interesting twists on traditional dishes (including one that offered 3 different types of pie on one plate! )

Having visited the ely for a meeting, I would very much recommend it. The facilities are fantastic and the food is of very high quality.

Tiny portions at the carvery, adult portion wouldn't feed a child. Manager was rude. Avoid.

My family and I dined at lunchtime on Sunday 12th July. Had been wanting to try the carvery for a while. Our waitress Beth was very helpful and got our drinks order very promptly. The carvery was excellent. Had a choice of Turkey, Beef or Gammon, the extras were very tasty and to finish the meal off had a lovely After Eight Mint Torte. A good atmosphere in the Restaurant and nothing was a bother for staff. All friendly and helpful. 5 Star service. Highly recommend.

Fantastic restaurant/pub, staff are really friendly and work as a team. The carvery is very nice aswell.

Been her a few times for lunch in the week also Saturday lunch and Sunday. Roast very nice good price staff caring, now booking a Friday night stay over.

Really terrible food — asked for a steak (medium) and was given a raw piece of meat. Sent it back and it was then nuked — dry, tough and tasteless. I won't be eating here again.

We've been here for food about half a dozen times now. I'll eat almost everything but my friends are fussy eaters, with intolerances and vegetarian preferences too. The menu is extensive and offers my friends a variety of options greater than most I've seen. We consider this to be the benchmark locally so far. The beer and, I'm told, the wine too, are also very good. It does get busy so don't expect a table for six if you haven't booked at peak times.

On a normal day, the pub would be a great place to eat. Atmosphere, service and food is good. Unfortunately, my daughter found a hair in her food! We mentioned it and the waiter discounted that meal from the bill. However he did not seem overly apologetic and so I deducted £15 pound from the bill as the whole experience had been spoilt. There was no interaction from the manager other than to explain that we were no longer welcome back! Not a level of customer service I would have expected from a venue such a this.

Stopped off here on our way home saturday evening. Food very good for money. Will be booking christmas dinner. Wide choice menu to choose from.
