This B&B has absolutely everything a person could want for a tropical getaway. It is romantic, homey, and the owners are wonderful! They really know the island and make sure you want for nothing.

Have been a fortunate enough to visit this place multiple times. It is truly a beautiful area and the host and hostess are 2nd to none. If you do not know what the Aloha spirit is, when you leave here you will have a much better understanding of what the Aloha spirit means. ❤

The absolute BEST B&B in Hawaii. A gem, AND a great value.

Honu Kai has been my choice for a B&B 4 times. The accommodations are luxurious, each room is decorated differently with high end appointments and the beds and linens are comfy. The breakfasts are amazing and generous. We're talking fresh fruit, main course and wonderful goodies. I suspect it would cost me about $25.00 to replicate their breakfasts elsewhere, so it's quite a bargain. The proprietors also loan gear like beach towels and chairs, snorkeling gear, boogie boards, even jackets for visits to Mauna Kea — gear that would be spendy to rent. The owners also are very caring and want your visit to be special. They provide great info on things to do and see, the best places to dine, etc. In short, this has been my place to stay and I recommend it highly. You won't be disappointed.

Stayed here for a week in 2018. The owners are both super nice people and made our trip to the big island much more enjoyable with their practical advice and recommendations. Also, I never realized how helpful a cooler would be on road trips! Breakfasts, made by the owners, were also outstanding, and got to try a lot of fruits not found as easily on the mainland. What I really liked is their use of local ingredients and products for their food. We found after breakfast we didn't need lunch! The B&B grounds were very nice and well maintained, with lots of areas to relax and spend time with the other guests, or by yourself if you want. I loved watching the variety of birds come to the feeder each day, geckos bathe in the sun, and there are also a couple cats! (They keep them out of the guest rooms so no allergy concerns). Location wise, it is close to a number of stores like Walmart, Target, Costco, and also to the airport. Also has easy access to the highways to Hilo and waimea. Couple of minor negatives — if you're a light sleeper there are roosters in the area that make noise in the early AM. Owners are trying their best with this. Also in the Nigiri room, the bath/shower is lower than the floor and may be difficult if you have mobility issues. Hopefully they can add a grab bar there. I would highly recommend this B&B and we are likely to return in the future!

Honu Kai is one of my favorite Bed and Breakfasts. B&B owners Wendy and Dave are really great, and great resources for the island. Rooms are extremely clean, and it feels like they thought of everything you might need. The grounds is extremely tropical. No ocean view, but the gardens are lovely. Breakfast is served to the group on their Lanai between 7:30am and 9:00am, but if you need to leave earlier they can pack you a breakfast bag to go. It would be a shame to miss their breakfasts though. There are three courses. A pastry course, a fruit course and the main course. They have 15 different breakfasts, so I can't imagine getting sick of anything. There are lots of things to borrow: beach bags, beach towels, snorkel gear, boogie boards, beach chairs, and other gear. They also have a fridge you can use, a Keurig coffee/tea maker, and a barbecue with all the plates/utensils you might need. They are located in the hills above Kailua-Kona so you will need a car. (Pretty much a must if you visit the Big Island anyway). It is about a 10 to 15 minute drive to get to restaurants, but on the flip side this property is very quiet and relaxing away from the hustle and bustle of town.

Couple things come to mind — superb, immaculate, fun and easy. After staying at Honu Kai ourselves we understand the glowing reviews and comments first hand. We had a wonderful time — loved the seclusion, yet it was conveniently located for everything we wanted to do. So much better than the cattle call of the resorts. When we come back to the big island we will definitely stay at Honu Kai!

One of the best bed and breakfast on the island. Dave and Wendi are super friendly and have a lot of good suggestions on what to do and see. Their breakfasts are very tasty and feel like a 4 course breakfast.

We had a great stay here, and a wonderful breakfast! Dave was quite the host, with helpful recommendations and ideas for our trip. He even packed a cooler for us to take on our road trip around the island. We'll definitely stay again on our next visit.

Honu Kai B&B is in a class of it's own, offering more than most other B&Bs and far more than a hotel or resort ever could. We spent 12 of the most adventurous, yet relaxing days there. Never did it feel like just a room to sleep at night, instead, it became our home away from home! For Breakfast, there was always something new and exciting to look forward to. Artfully arranged exotic fruit, a selection of pastries, fresh fruit juice, local coffee and teas and a delicious hot breakfast await you each morning. Never the same meal twice, even in our twelve days with them. They were happy to cater to my almost vegan diet, whipping up something special for me, while taking careful note of allergies and dietary requirements/preferences. Their attention to detail is just part of what make Honu Kai special, from the fresh cut flowers, to available snorkel gear, beach towels, warm weather clothes for the trip up the volcano, to a cooler with water and snacks for our daily adventures. Wendi and Dave are fountains of knowledge about the island (especially if you're on a budget), with their great suggestions of places to shop, eat and explore. Between their help in booking events and tours for us, their detailed road trip guides, suggestions for neat places to see and go, they truly made our vacation effortless.

Outstanding B&B. Gracious, knowledgeable hosts Wendy and Dave, will steer you to the best places. Comfortable, secluded location is perfect to relax. Great breakfasts and conversations.
