Stayed here last summer and absolutely LOVED it! Wish I could have stayed longer.
The house is directly by the beach, with a small garden and terrace, it has everything you need. Perfect for relaxing but yet not far away from the stores and restaurants in Lahaina.
The owner Guyton and caretakers are lovely people and incredibly welcoming. I stayed over the 4th July and Guyton had a potluck barbecue for all the guests!
I was solo traveling at the time but met a bunch of lovely people at this place!
If I ever make it back to Maui I will definitely stay here again!

Hostel located next to the beach, 30 seconds by foot! Very clean on the inside. A pity that there is nobody else to welcome.

Stayed here last weekend and had a wonderful experience. Place was clean and in great condition. Doors are securely locked. And best of all Guyton was the most wholesome host! He organized a BBQ potluck where all the mates got to know each other and dance :) I miss it already.

RETHINK BEFORE YOU BOOK HERE! BEWARE! Awful experience, stayed for one night and there was no power! If you know Hawaii then you know how hot it gets. There was no backup generator, no ac, no fans, no light, the showers had ice cold water. It was like that for over 12 hours! We left as early as we could bc we sweated so much throughout the night. We had to use our phones as a flashlight in order to use the bathroom or shower. We couldn't charge our phones, and all of our food went bad in the fridge with no power. The owner never even came by or called us back to update us! Awful customer service, such a disappointing end for an expensive trip to Maui. Called to ask for a refund and the lady on the phone Argued with me that they assumed the electricity came back after an hour, meanwhile I'm sleeping drenched in sweat… The owner never came the neighbor stopped by and gave us some solar lamps that were stuck in the front lawn as our "source of light". Seriously it was a disaster and so disappointing! For the money you spend here save it for a nicer place. I STILL haven't received a phone call back about my refund or an apology. This is the second time they have not contacted me back. Excuse of a business, bad customer service and so unprofessional. Beyond disappointed. Wanted to enjoy my vacation and instead had to deal with all of this.

Perfect… Just perfect! Clean, friendly, well located and ten seconds from the beach. Surf lesson and luau next door. Really, the Best guesthouse on the island!

This hostel has a great, laid back atmosphere, while still providing great amenities. The staff was friendly, the location is awesome, the facilities clean. I only wish I'd checked in earlier to this hostel than I did!

Great hostel run by the grandson of the original owner of the home. It's close to a beach and downtown with a great view of the ocean. They were very accommodating when I came in later in the evening and posted a letter at the door if you don't have internet. The staff were very friendly and the guests came from all over the world with great stories. I added a picture of a view you see from the backyard as I relaxed and swam in the nearby beach (beware of the rocks though).

Not far from the beach but you have to pay for everything. Their airport shuttle service costs 55$ one way. If you want a towel to shower you have to pay it. Nothing's complimentary. The reception girl was rude but I guess they just have tourists serve as reception guests for a month than it's the next one and the next one. The manager was nice. Also parking was free.

We stayed 2 nights at the hostel. First night in the hostel itself and second night in the hostel's private room, "The Last Resort". In the room there was a missing ladder to the upper bunk bed, which apparently has been mentioned in previous reviews already. This is still not fixed. Not very easy to get up there! The hostel has only 2 bathrooms for approximately 5 rooms times 4 people each. They were not in the best condition either. No lockers in the rooms. "The Last Resort", which is the hostel's private room, is located about 14min walking distance from the hostel itself. It does NOT have access to a kitchen, and is very expensive ($190) given the condition of the room and bathroom (see pictures).

Loved this place and the awesome people there. Had an amazing holidays. The rooms where big enough, the location of the hostel is incredible. Is near the water front, and a few steps from the Lahaina's surf spot. Martin was a great manager and help us with everything, recommended some awesome places to visit. Also had a great time surfing and Kitesurfing with him. Hope to be there real soon!

Management is: self-serving, condones sexual assault and manipulative. During my week there Martin "manager" blew cigarette smoke in my face and told me "I don't care" when I told him that it bothered me. Same person made a 62 year old Veteran sleep on a loveseat in a brightly lit common are while an employee, who was fired for assaulting a guest, took a private guest room. Owner is not adverse to this as she thinks that this is just a typical hosteling experience. Same owner has had two other hostels on the island condemned — this one isn't too far behind; roof has a hole, air-conditioner and air quality questionable. Roaches run free through broken cabinetry that hosts the advertised cutlery. Upside — if you are able to handle being hazed then the outside patio area is nice — close to the beach.

Beautiful setting, absolutely well done house, right next to the beach and city center.

The Hostel was in mostly Sauber and fine. However, there are only two Toilets for everyone. Even when I booked that you can use Surfboards and Bikes for free. However, the Rules changed, and only Staff are allowed to use them for free. The rental Prices are the same as in Lahaina. Recommended As a Staff safe, but not as a Backpacker. It seemed to me as a Guest That Staff was preferred as the paying guest.

This is an awesome place to come and stay a few nights. Met some really great people. Staff was great. Would have no issues staying there again.

Tiki Hale is about 40 minutes from Kahului airport depending on traffic. Located in the center of Lahaina and a few minutes walk to the beach. It doesn’t feel like a typical hostel, it feels more like a private shared house including a living room and a kitchen. You can buy groceries and cook your own meals. 4 bunks in each room which was nice. I think they also have single beds near the garden is you prefer. Clean and comfortable beds. The staff are nice and laidback. The property overall is clean, you may encounter a few cockroaches in the bathroom but I think it’s expected in HI, unless you’re staying in fancy hotel which I can’t afford hahaha. They offer surfing lessons for $50 a lesson as I remember. The rate may change of course. Also, you can rent a board or a kayak. Staying here may cost a few dollars more than other hostels but it’s worth the experience. I’m a solo traveler and it was a great way to meet people. Nice atmosphere, every night fellow travelers spend time in the garden chatting and sharing stories. I enjoyed my stay at Tiki Hale and I had an amazing time esp meeting new awesome people. Highly recommended.

Wonderful hostel in short walking distance to the heart of Lahaina. Off street parking, cozy, code entry safe, charming, home like atmosphere, indoor, outdoor beds! Two, very well equipped, very clean kitchens with adjoining eating, relaxing areas. 2 full inside and 1 half and 1 3/4 bathrooms! "Glass" bedroom, wonderful "tropical" looking charming chilling area with Friday barbeques, bring your own meet. Crew is great, Mgr. Martin is "kick ass" nice and helping. Best hostel in Maui!

So far the best hostel I have been to. Very friendly staff, stylish furnishings and great position close to beach. I am just backpacking Hawaii islands and this one is so far no. 1. Me and my gf stayed there unfortunately just one night (wish to stay there longer). We could borrow a snorkeling gear for free which was great. Thanks guys and stay cool.

Good place to meet cool people. Localization is good. Staff is awesome so arevthe rooms and cleaning.

This hostel is amazing! Very clean, good location, a few steps from the beach, Very close to restaurants and shopping centers. Guyton the owner takes good care of guests. Makes us feel very welcome and like home. Keeps the place in good shape! I definitely recommend this hostel!

Amazing staff, comfortable beds, everything clean and nice trips organized for guests. The warm welcome in this place was exactly what I needed after a terrible experience in another hostel on Maui.

Beautiful garden that allows you to meet and chat with other residents. Warm and friendly atmosphere. The staff is super friendly.

Where to start? This location is great. Gaiten (parden my spelling, think Titan with a G) the Landlord is awesome. He has been hospitable and a great host. The hostel is clean and newly renovated. I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else. The back yard has a huge deck and the yard has a gate that leads to the public beach park. If you want to see the town of Lahaina your in luck. There are great restaurants only a 5 min walk away. I will be staying here again.

Great location and a nice garden to hangout, but the surfboards are not free like they say online.

Very good reception. Very clean, and quiet. I recommend this hostel in which we are well, as at home.

Friendly staff. Had a great time with the other guests. The location is walking distance to everything. The backyard area is beautiful and relaxing. But the hostel needs some significant renovation. They could improve on the cleanliness. Small roaches run roam freely in the kitchen. I was freaked out by a mouse that was under the kitchen sink. The staff tries to keep the bathroom clean but it needs renovation too. If you're assigned to a top bunk be prepared to be careful climbing up and down. Eventually someone will fall down and hurt themselves badly. The latch on my locker was broken and I couldn't lock up any of my belongings. It was take 5 minutes to fix but it never happened while I was there. The cinco de mayo party that was supposed to start at 7:30 PM instead started at 10:30 PM. The chill island vibe is real. The check in desk is in the back of the hostel. Everyone coming in at first lost trying to find it. The staff is friendly but the hostel is poorly managed. And it's not called The Tiki Hale anymore. The business owner or manager hasn't bothered to change the Google My Business info yet.

A skip away from the beach. In the heart of historic Lahaina. Bohemian vibe. Rooms all open up on the communal backyard. Staff is great. A great place to do Maui on a budget.

Extremely hateful attitude when booking. I was treated like a totally inconvenience… I even asked the reservation woman if they should make a note my plane was coming in at midnight and she mocked me and ridiculed me saying "well I guess so, don't you think communication is important " and went on about how I need to tell people important facts… which is precisely what I was doing. Then I asked if I was to stay longer if they had a extended stay or weekly rate… she scoffed at me ripping me a new one saying that I should stay somewhere else, that normal stays are 2 weeks and a month long and how could I ask that… I wasn't expecting a discount only asking if they had weekly rates in case I needed to stay longer… Very bitter mean and hateful… I've never been to Hawaii and I'm hoping this isn't the general attitude of the people in Maui… what a bummer.

The service is excellent. The location was very good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. He's got all the services.

I stayed at the Tiki Hale for 5 nights and 6 days and it was hard to leave. My friends were getting married in Lahaina and I wanted to stay somewhere by myself for less cost than the resorts and make some friends. By the time I left I knew all the staff, which is like a small family really. The thing is, you've got to be careful not to spend all your time in the paradise of the hostel's backyard that JJ has created, which is easy to do.   The beach is only a few steps away, and you can grab free boards or gear, whatever you need, someone might even give you a lesson if you ask. The town is also close and you can walk back and forth all day. And a chill local sports bar is about two blocks away. If you're lucky, you'll catch one of the hostel's bbq's; when I was there Kimo, one of the staff shared his birthday with everyone. Then we jammed out on guitar, ukulele, harmonica and drums all night. If you're really lucky some beautiful girl might teach you to weave flower headdresses, and show everyone how to dance. I had so much to do I didn't even take same of the hostel's free tours, but I hope some day maybe I'll be back. I stay in a lot of hostels but this one is a little different, it feels more like your own home.

A very unique experience… Hostels aren't for everyone. But if you are traveling on a budget or looking to meat great people from all over the world this is a great place. It is a house set up as a hostel located aprox. 50 yds. From the ocean. The common back yard looks like an outdoor tiki lounge with lush green tropical vegetation with babanna and palm trees everywhere. Couldn't have picked a better place for a last minute spir of the moment get away.

I love this hostel! The staff here is soo inviting and friendly. The atmosphere is pretty chill, lots of other backpackers and random travelers escaping the high priced hotels. Small uncrowded dorms. Charming backyard with plenty of furniture for everyone! It has an easy 30 second walk to the beach. Surf board, kayak etc. Rentals. Plus it's a quick walk to get food and whatever you need on front street. If you feel like it's wrong that hostels charge you for towels and want to stay somewhere they aren't greedy pigs, lol, then stay here!

Super awesome place and the best value on Maui. Less than 50 dollars a night. The host Kimo plays music a throw free BBQ's for the guests. Kristen is warm and friendly. Aloha is what The Tike Hale' is all about.

I was a little nervous to stay because I'm a single female and don't often do hostels. I was pleasantly surprised though. It was decently clean, people were friendly and polite, and the garden in the back was lovely. The location just outside town was perfect. The walls are thin so sometimes noise is a problem, but mostly this was a great inexpensive place to stay in Lahaina.
