My family and I came from Ohio and were looking for a place on the beach to enjoy a few days and boy did we hit the jackpot! Rooms aren’t real big but spacious enough, the view from our room was amazing and the fact you can walk right out to the beach makes the long drive worth it. They also offer daily breakfast that is set up and ready and though little variety was very fresh and delicious. They keep the facility clean, the pool was kept up and very inviting. We didn’t bring our pet this time but happy that they offer the option and have a place to walk your pet and keep their business in a place that won’t cause issues for other guests. The beach was never crowded, we always had plenty of space to relax and not be elbow to elbow with others. I highly recommend this place for short or long stays and wether on your own or with family!

Overall it was a decent hotel but we did find things on the floor like bottle caps & tops to makeup & there were fingerprints on the TV screen. The BEST thing about this hotel is the close proximity to a private beach!

I wouldnt recommend this place if you could possibly have a health crisis. My parents had reservations for this past week and at the last minute my mother had an emergency and had to be hospitalized. She is STILL in the hospital and they are refusing to refund my parents after charging them for the entire week. This is ridiculous and my parents travel down here often. Even though I live less than a mile from here, I will never recommend my family and friends stay at a place that is run and owned by thieves. They should be ashamed.

We enjoyed our 3 night 4 day stay. Overall good experience. Everyone was nice that we spoke to that worked there. Of course we didn’t ask for room service but I took trash and swapped towels daily with housekeeping to make it easier today I stripped beds and had a pile for them cleaned out everything. When we reserved our room we paid for one of the nights then when we checked in was charged for all 3 nights again. We didn’t understand that part, still don’t. The breakfast buffet wasn’t what we thought it would be once we arrived and was able to go to it. Def not what was advertised. Disappointed with that, our kids chose dry cereal instead of a hot breakfast. Everything else we were satisfied with.

Great pool and beach access! rooms don't have anywhere to hang wet towels or bathing suits though. Probably the only drawback.

Door doesn’t latch or lock. What appears to be male DNA on the phone receiver. Dirty room. Wasn’t available on time. Staff unhelpful. Doesn’t understand why door is an issue?!

The room was decent for the price. The housekeeping staff was really helpful. There's a pool and grill area on the patio behind the building. The patio has a beach access available for guests. There is a pipeline nearby, but it's far enough that it's not a huge deal. Otherwise, the beach area right behind the facility is great.

I have stayed at this Best Western twice. Once in 2016 and this past weekend. I was happy to see the hotel undergoing renovation/remodeling. Peaceful beach experience and the free hot breakfast are the reasons for me coming back. The beach here is not crowded so it's the perfect place to go if you want to be away form the crowd of VA beach. The hotel also has a pool, but who needs a pool when you have the beach!

Our stay is one of many stays at Best Western Holiday Sands & Suites. The staff were great once again. Housekeeping took care of a request and we appreciated it. The front desk was welcoming, of any question or service. The dining staff kept up with a very busy week, efficiently and friendly too. We keep coming back because of the closeness to family but also because we love being on The Chesapeake Bay.

A great hotel location with the beach and ease from major highways. Staff is very friendly and efficient. Beds comfortable; breakfast saves you money. While in Norfolk, it is about a one half hour drive to the heart of Virginia Beach and cheaper than similar hotels right in Virginia Beach. The beach is sandy and waves are less as hotel is on the bay. Great view from our room and patio of various types of ships, including military and large cargo ships. Pool is a nice size with depth up to 8 ft. Free off road parking included. Wait to refill your gas tank, as gas is much cheaper in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. If you want some peace and comfort, this is your choice for your next vacation!

Very clean and very friendly. Located right on the beach and nice to have a pool as well. We had a balcony view. Awesome worth the extra. Pet friendly and beach mostly private so really enjoyed that especially when we went to Virginia beach and couldn't find any place to park less than $20 and a very very crowded beach. We went back to out hotel and enjoyed out quiet beach for the few days we had left from a meeting there.

First off this hotel is in a great location right on the bay, with a nice pool, and comfortable rooms. Breakfast is wonderful. And the staff is friendly. But I would not be giving 5 stars right now if it wasn’t for Chelsea at the front desk. She was wonderful. I was very unhappy with some miscommunication issues. I went down and talked to her. She had a line of customers when I came in, but yet she was super friendly to everybody and never made me feel rushed. She made sure I understood that our visit was important to her and that she understood our frustrations. She took the time to work out the issue for us and she really deserves some recognition. This company is very lucky to have such a wonderful hardworking employee. We have family in the area and take the 13+ hour drive here often to stay for a week or more at a time. We would not have been back and would have been sure to tell other family members not to stay when they’re in the area. But she really made it up to us. We will be back if you keep employees like her working the front desk where I can trust that if an issue comes up it will be resolved.

It looks like an old Motel 6 that was bought out by BW. The only plus I can give, is I found out what the govt rate was and told them and they finally lowered price to govt rate. But I find it hard to believe it’s DTS approved. I moved out and went to the Holiday INN.

My family of 5 (children aged 8 and under) stayed here for an entire week. The staff was absolutely amazing and very accommodating. The facility itself is very clean and attractive. The rooms are spacious. The pool area was an 8/10 as it could've been kept a little cleaner though this was mostly due to guests being inconsiderate and leaving their trash behind. The hotel offers private beach access and even offers free beach chairs for its guests. The breakfast was a full one complete with waffles, bacon/ sausage, eggs, hot and cold cereal, pastries, juices, coffee, fruit, etc. We are very much looking forward to returning!

Rooms are nice and clean, I stayed in one of the suites very roomy. The beach access was nice so was the pool. The breakfast was great. The best part was the staff, Joe, Jason and everyone else were great, made me feel at home and very helpful, I am sure they will do the same for you. I will definitely be back. (The price was great too by the way)

Friendly staff. Checked us in quickly. Had an "ocean view" room with balcony. Room was very clean. Carpet looked new. Free hot breakfast. Pool was clean and awesome. Had a fenced in grassy area just for pet owners to take their pets to relieve themselves complete with waste bags. I would definitely stay here again.

I am a repeat customer yearly since 2013. The hotel is just right with professional, friendly, and accommodating staff. The price is exceptional for the value and we will continue to stay at the location when we travel in the area.

Hotel under renovation that impacts guest experience. Furnishings, furniture, and construction debris sitting in walkways. Swimming pool opened without health inspection, had trash in it, and water was cloudy. Pool closed 2 of 3 days I was staying there, which is not acceptable for a beach hotel. Found a cell phone screen protector in our bed and first time I told customer service, they simply said sorry. Had to go back with the screen protector a 2nd time and get a manager involved who offered a $30 discount on my bill, which was not satisfactory, but I was there trying to relax and walked away with the concession. Check other hotels before booking.

There is nothing "Plus" about this hotel. In fact, I would give it a negative rating if possible! It does NOT compare to any of the BW Plus properties I have stayed in recently. The only thing this hotel has going for it is the front-row seat to the Chesapeake Bay. The hotel's curb appeal needs serious tendering — a new paint job, a deep clean of the parking lots and breezeways, a mow around the "dog walk" and new pool / outdoor patio area. The maintenance staff seems to pile all sorts of odds and ends around the property — Clean that up! The hotel room's interiors are OK with clean sheets and towels. The bathroom is also clean (Thank God). Unfortunately, the furniture and amenities leave little to be desired. Old, chipped, torn and rusting. The laminate floor collects EVERYTHING. Lastly, I am NOT impressed by the customer service shown by staff at this hotel. The receptionist showed little professionalism and the breakfast attendant looked unkempt. They put no pride in working at this property and it shows. I will never stay here again.

Love this place. This is our new accommodation when visiting our family in the Hampton Roads area. Very nice 2 room suite with full kitchen, direct beach access and VERY reasonably priced. Off the beaten tourist track of Virginia Beach. Ocean Veiw neighborhood of Norfolk is great.

This hotel has potential. There are two parts of the hotel and I believe they recently acquired a little inn next to it. This is what we stayed in and it was so noisey. We could hear everything going on in the parking lot and doors slamming. We got no sleep! However my parents stayed on the other side in the higher rise of a building and there was no noise. Their room was nice and ours was nice but the noise ruined it for us. The front desk staff was super friendly and let us check out a day early so we could get some sleep. This place is being renovated so it has potential. Overall if you are careful which side of the hotel you stay on and pay the extra money for ocean view this hotel for the price would be a good place to stay.

So glad we stayed here! The staff in the lobby, the housekeepers, and the breakfast staff are all very professional and friendly. Price was $100 a night cheaper than in Virginia Beach, and only a 30 minute drive from Norfolk. The breakfast is good with fresh cooked choices. The office has coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cold juices 24/7. The coffee is made fresh every two hours. Definitely a great choice and we'll be staying here again in the future.

Great place to stay for the price if you are in Norfolk! Close drive to everything and the beach is right out back. Our suite was neat and clean and the staff was very friendly. Breakfast was great too, with many options. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would definitely stay here again myself!

Spacious and clean hotel right on the beach. Rooms are a little dated but very comfortable. Breakfast is included. Friendly staff and great location.

We stay here on our trips South. Staff goes out of their way to serve the customers. Rooms are clean and reasonably priced. Full breakfast served in the morning that is absolutely delicious.

Clean rooms, plent of free parking, friendly staff and rooms with a great view of the ocean. I fell asleep to the sound of the sea. Complimentary breakfast is a couple notches above the standard fare at other chains as well. This place was a nice surprise. I would stay again without hesitation.

Had a great stay here, unfortunately my daughter left her childhood bear behind and we were more than 2 hours away when she realized it. I called the hotel, they located it, and Joe said he would personally ship it back to us, which he did at no charge! Thanks Joe, you saved the day! Great staff!

I was attending a conference when I stumbled onto this great hotel. I didn't have a reservation but the accommodation and availability was no problem. Also, the room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was fulfilling. I recommend Best Western Plus and will definitely stay here in the future.

Clean… nice staff… nice neighborhood… Beach right out back… traffic can be a smidge loud… dining area for free breakfast is nicest I've been in. Very clean and lots of tables… typical waffles. Cereal… fruit. Yogurt. Sugar free syrup and I've never had make your own egg sandwiches with cheese… tasty!

This is a quiet and well kept location. It is great for dogs with a fenced area and beach access. They are repainting the rooms and they look great. Rooms are clean and smell great. The view on the bay side is outstanding. Staff is great and friendly. Would recommend for a weekend or longer stays.

This is going to be our go to vacation spot! We went here to visit Virginia beach, but it turns out that the hotel has a beach right in the back that's even better than VA beach in my opinion if you have children. It is very low key and not too overwhelming! We will definitely be visiting again and again and again!

There was a plumbing problem with the guest room when we checked in. The manager and staff provided immediate relief by moving us to a nice ocean view room. New to the area Registration staff Chelsie and Carol provide suggested sightseeing places and restaurants for us to visit. Chelsie was kind enough to write a list of those suggestions for us to view at our pleasure. On our second day Registration staff Tim provided additional sightseeing places. Had a great time talking with the staff and sharing where we were from, the trip we were on, and how they came to work there in Norfolk, VA. Great experience. Looking forward to staying there on our next trip.

Great location for a little TLC and quiet beach getaway. The pool is open early Fall since it's still hot here. Staff is down to earth and pleasant. Great local owned food nearby. I didn't give 5 stars only because they need new beds. They are just soft and not comfy…

This place is AWESOME! It was absolutely divine to wake up, open the balcony door (Ocean View room) and hear the sound of the ocean. The water pressure in the shower was absolutely AMAZING! I did not want to get out. I do have to say that the breakfast area was a bit small for the size of the hotel, but some of that could have been due to the Evacuees of Hurricane Irma. Overall, I would DEFINITELY stay here again! Thank you Best Western!

Excellent staff! Kudos to the gal during check in whom I called several times for information on our way in. She was super courteous and accommodating upon arrival. Breakfast wasn't the best, but they do have awesome waffles! The room was very decent, pool was pool like, and the beach was absolutely spectacular. We had a wonderful trip and will be coming back in the future for vacations.

The hotel has been great, the beach is literally right outside your door. The beach was practically empty every day and the pool was great also. The staff was accommodating, they even let us check in 3 hours early because we got into town early. The room was the perfect size for our family of 6, the only thing I would change is, next time I will ask for a room with a view or balcony. We don't have any windows but 1 and the view was the neighbors. Overall our stay has been great!

We had a horrible experience at a motel just up the street from the Best Western. We actually had to check out a day early. On our way home we decided to stop at the Best Western to get their rates because we love the area and were definitely coming back so we would need to find a new motel. They were at full capacity but after we explained what we had just went through they told us they had a room being worked on. The Manager said go to the pool or beach and hang out for awhile and we will finish the room so you don't have to cut your vacation a day short. Thanks to the manager Karen we were able too finish our vacation. Ebony and Chelsea were at the front desk. They were extremely nice. They could have easily said sorry we cant help you but they didnt. They went above and beyond to make the last day of out trip pleasurable. Also the rooms are very comfortable and clean. They have the friendliest staff that I've seen. We have already made reservations to return in August.

This is right on the beach — it is a little outdated — but they keep it clean and are doing a lot of work on property right now. Staff is very helpful! This was the best vacation we have had! We loved staying here and would do it again in a heartbeat! Loved the location — close enough to the tourism stuff but far enough away to be relaxing! Just bring your own kitchen utensils if cooking in room. Very minimal provided.

Very nice place to stay with a nice view. Though we stayed here off season it was a nice place with a good breakfast easy to get around and close to the Naval Base.

This hotel was OK. Thank goodness we didn't stay here long. I didn't feel safe as this part of Norfolk has lots of night walkers. The rooms were big and the bathroom was great, but the kitchen had dirty dishes in the pantry. The AC unit didn't work well and we slept on top of the sheets. The beach access looks great and it is… until you step in to the ocean and there is a steep drop off. I would NOT recommend this part of the beach for kids! Also, there is low light at night and I didn't feel safe going outside.

Best price for the location! Nice beach with virtually no waves, but warm water (bay water)! Very suitable for younger kids. They can go out in the water without any concern of deep spot. The hotel is old but if you are already settled for Best Western then you shouldn't expect much. Enjoy yourself! :)

A very decent hotel stay, good Wi-Fi, good breakfast, good bed, pretty clean. The bathtub had some stains it, the sink faucet was wobbly, but it didn't really affect my stay.

Hotel itself is nice and clean and decent rooms. However the staff I have had to deal with during stay and trying to get a receipt after were horrible. I'd rather pay more and stay somewhere where I'm not treated badly. Upon arrival the person at the counter wouldn't accept my military ID as a form of Identification, gave him my drivers license. Apparently he put my info in wrong and spelled everything incorrectly. Next morning got a receipt n ran as our moving truck arrived earlier than expected. When I went to turn in our receipts noticed everything was spelled wrong. Called and lady was rude and unhelpful that they can't print out receipts and that the one in my hand can't be a receipt.

An old hotel that is starting to show its age. Well worth the money though. Right on the beach and they allow pets. The breakfast is also well done every morning.

Good place to stay for the price. The ocean views are spectacular. The hotel is a little older and could use some updates but they do a good job of maintaining. I would stay here again. The staff is very accommodating and knowledgeable about the area.

Well upon entry we were met with a very strong bug spray oder. I, while my aunt was freakin out because she spelled this bug spray was trying to remain optimistic was very wrong when we spotted a roach. We also realized there was no hair dryer. As I am typing this she is looking around and found a huge dead underneath the silverware holder.

Location is convenient. Beach/Bay view is nice. Good breakfast. Staff seem nice. Rooms are spacious and clean.

It was on the beach which was nice… but the two bed bugs we found the next morning was not so nice… We where able to get a refund after an hour later… They were nice enough to put iur clothes in an industrial dryer be for we left… Still no peace of mind though!

This hotel was great for our family vacation! the rooms were clean and air condition work very well. The beach was not crowded at all had an awesome free breakfast buffet. Very friendly staff. Close to a lot of restaurant options and grocery store. Would highly recommend this to any of my family and friends! Thanks for the good time.

The staff and front desk were very friendly, which is why I'm giving them two stars, however the rooms smelled so bad. The room we first received smelled so intense, like urine, we were offered another room. The second room still smelled so bad, just not as bad as the first. The carpets and sofas were soiled and needed replacing. My family wasn't comfortable staying so we checked out the same day. We gave up the one night deposit and walked away from this hotel. I doubt I will ever try another Best Western again.

When arriving my first thoughts were that it looked nice and it was on beach. Was about a 3 on cleanliness but beach N water extremely dirty and had to make the drive to VA Beach which was absolutely clean and beautiful! Hotel has a pool which is nice but the most awful thing about the hotel is how loud it is… doors slamming all hours of the night, walls paper thin like windows are open and people right outside the room. This is the first review I have ever wrote because I am so disgusted with my stay. Unfortunately I can not find another hotel because they already charged my card so I will have to make it through another terrible night. Very dissatisfied in this hotel! If u have small children that need a nap DON'T STAY AT THIS HOTEL! It's impossible for your child to nap here. Breakfast is also very bad! Holiday Inn Express has a much better breakfast! I wish I would have spent the little extra money and just stayed there!

We had a very pleasant stay. The staff were courteous and friendly and our room was very clean. I left behind a toiletry bag that they shipped back to me FREE OF CHARGE! Great company.

My daughter and I traveled from Boston for one night. We drove over an hour from Richmond airport to the hotel. We knew we had an 4:00 p. M. Check in but we called on our way from the airport to see if we could get early check in. The staff was so helpful and worked really hard to get our room done, we arrived at 11:30 a. M. They had it ready in an hour. Very pleasant staff from the front desk to the house keepers. The room, pool, exercise room and dining area were very clean. There was a full breakfast buffet that was very good. The beds were very comfortable, more comfortable than most places I have stayed. I would book here again.

Joe the manager got me a room when NONE where available anywhere in Norfolk. I am military and the Naval Station had no rooms available. Joe got me a room, at the government rate, in the middle of the busy summer. Cant say enough good things about him and the staff. The room was decent, no complaints. Could have been a little cleaner around the edges in the bathroom. I've stayed at a lot worse and paid a lot more! I would stay there again and would even bring my family for a vacation.

The two-queen suite was awful. The main reason is because the room had no air circulation. There was no A/C unit in the back bedroom/bathroom, so the only unit for the entire suite was near the front door. I couldn't imagine how bad this would have been in the summer (we went in October). The bathroom was tiny, no counterspace (unlike the pictures), and I just felt cramped with 6 people/6 peoples stuff for the short time I was there.

Staff was great. Very good value. Clean rooms, a little dated. Had a great stay and experience.

We went to this hotel this past weekend and I so thankful that I picked out this hotel on priceline. The hotel is beautiful and clean. The front desk personel was so nice and helpful. They are always smiling. They gave us a call in the room after we had got in there to just check and see if we were happy and satisfied with everything in the room. That is the first time that has ever happened with me going anywhere. Beautiful and clean room with a view that just took our breath away. The best bed I ever slept in any hotel. They have the best continental breakfast with 2 nice ladies keeping everything running smoothly. They will help and show how to make your own waffles. They had eggs, buscuits and gravy, muffins, english muffins, bagels, cereals, and coffee and juice. We did not have time to use the exercise room and laundry. I rate this hotel as 10! I will stay again. I recommend anybody to stay here if you a nice quiet family vacation. It is not on the Virginia Beach side where it is all the hustle and bustle. It would be great for honeymooners. I loved it and my husband and daughter loved it. Thank you to the employees of this Best Western for a very happy experience.

For a 3-star hotel, I would recommend this place. You can book for just one night. Some places require a minimum of two nights. The room was very clean. I double checked everything — including the sheets — and there were no problems with the place. The fitness room has no free weights, though. Just cardio equipment, and a few of the machines were broken. Also, expect there to be families (kids) taking up the pool space. Just walk the few steps to the beach if you want to avoid this. The breakfast was what you would expect from a 3-star. It's not fancy. It's simple and it does the job. Warm up some oatmeal, have a muffin and a banana, some OJ or coffee, and you're set. If you're looking for a 4-star or 5-star environment here, you'll be disappointed. I feel the suite was very much worth the price. I say give this place a shot, and just make sure to inspect everything as soon as you walk in. People that don't do this and get screwed come on here and complain because they didn't take the right precautions. Best of luck with your stay.
