Looking for a good bed and breakfast to surprise my wife with, I came across this Wonderful and Rare Piece of History with Honest Down to Earth Owners. Dot and Julian are just like your favorite Relatives that you never knew about. If you are into Real History and Real People and/or in my opinion, if open to it, Real Spirits whom interact, Book it! We were transported back to 1850 and can’t thank Them enough! A Real Treat.

My wife Laurie & I got married in the parlor here in May 2016 & it was the perfect venue for us. The breakfasts were amazing & fit for a king. Dot did so much to make our wedding & our stay an unforgettable experience. Us reuniting after 46 years & getting married at 65 was wonderful enought; but finding The Edgewood to celebrate or union was “the topping on the cake”!

My husband and I stayed here over the weekend. It was such a great experience. They are wonderful hosts and the home is so fun to be in. There is lots of historical items to look at and ask about. Breakfast was yummy too! Very peaceful at night. We will definitely be returning for weekend getaways.

This is one of the most magical and beautiful places in the world, I guess. The love of detail in every little piece that is part of the Edgewood plantation is just phenomenal. Let alone all the dainty dolls, the mysterious spirits of the house (hello Lizzie) and of course, Candy, the good fairy of the house who makes the most superb breakfast, has some delightfully spooky ghost stories to tell and is just super lovely and charming through and through.

Absolutely fantastic! Great place and great people. A wonderful place to stay!

My husband and I booked Prissys room to celebrate our anniversary. It was better than we expected. The suite was huge and inviting, the grounds were breathtaking, the breakfast delicious, and the owners were amazing. We will definitely be returning.

A lot of history here and a lot of antiques to look at. Enjoyed our stay!

While we didn't stay at the inn, we did have a tour of the house. Dot, the owner, gave us a delightful overview of the history of the house and how she came to own it. She is a wonderful and bubbly hostess. We had a great time visiting, seeing the rooms and learning.

Dot and her staff/Family are so very pleasant. It was great to get to know them and the other guests each morning. We ABSOLUTELY LOVED our stay (Prissy's Room) and can't wait to come back to Charles City, VA again but this time it will be to go antiqueing!

Wow! The absolute perfect weekend getaway. The owners are warm, friendly and hospitable. The home is full of charm and history. We will be back!

What an incredible experience my friends and I were able to have this past weekend. The house and grounds were stunning, and Dot and Julian were an absolute pleasure to meet. Dot has so many wonderful stories to tell, and I feel like I could sit and listen for hours. Truly incredible hosts. I hope to go back some day!

The owner was so accommodating and kind to us. Our reservation didn't go through but she was willing to show us what was available to us and accommodated myself, my husband and my two kids for only, $18 extra. They made such a delicious breakfast and we were able to explore the ground. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone. It was such a beautiful property.

I drove to Charles City from New York, expecting to stay at my family home. When I arrived, the power, heat and water were off, and I was exhausted and needed a place to stay. I called Edgewood and they were able to accommodate me on short notice. I cannot begin to describe the kind hospitality Dot and Julian bestowed on me. My room was warm and nicely appointed. In the morning, I walked the grounds to the creek and was able to see the impressive historic mill on the property. The home is lovely and I was very comfortable, but more importantly, they really helped me and extended the utmost hospitality in every way. I will never forget their kindness.

A recent family wedding took place at Westover plantation and we reserved all the rooms of Edgewood. What a Brilliant decision! The attention to detail in décor, comforts, and hospitality was impressive and so appreciated. Dot was very personable and accommodating and Candy’s breakfast was Fabulous. We swam in the pool until late at night and drank our morning coffee on the lovely large front porch. We all agreed that our stay at Edgewood enhanced the already special occasion of the family wedding.

I have had the pleasure of staying at the beautiful Edgewood Plantation twice and am ready to book another stay this month. The accommodations are so comfortable and beautiful and the food is absolutely five star quality. Dot is such a gracious host and entertains her guests with wonderful stories of the history the house and the surrounding area. She and her husband have spent years collecting period furniture which heightens the atmosphere. The pool is beautiful and so inviting. This place is so rich in history and southern hospitality. I'll be back soon!

It was a great break for us. Dot's hospitality was superb and the food was delicious. Next time we are in the area we hope to stay there again.

Edgewood B&B visit was ideal for relaxation. Our hosts were truly gracious and made us feel so at home, as well as entertaining us with wonderful stories about the history of Edgewood and the region. Edgewood is ideally situated between Richmond & Williamsburg, and smack dab in the middle of plantation (and CW battlefield) country. Southern hospitality at its finest.

Great place to go for a little relaxation. I suggest getting Lizzie's room as it has a large tub and a double shower. Walking the grounds or sitting by the pool is am excellent way to unwind. The history here is rich and the stories are plenty.

I will begin with the major up-sides to this place: (1) location — — it is west of Charles City by several miles and therefore much closer to Richmond on Route 5 (which goes directly to downtown Richmond without changing roads) than most of the others, and very near the bridge across the James River to Hopewell (good for Civil War buffs who wish to follow Grant path from Cold Harbor to City Point), (2) it may seem smaller on the outside than anticipated, but it becomes a feast for the eyes once inside. It would simply take hours upon hours to take in the incredible feminine touches that prevail throughtout this house. Make no mistake, this is a feminine house from the first floor up and the word "spartan" could never be applied to this house. (3) "Lizzie's Room" is our preference (not that the others aren't good as well), a large room with a very large and fine bed, and large bathroom with a DOUBLE shower that is simply superb. It also includes a large tub. (4) the breakfast offered is superb as well and the dining experience is enhanced with all the feminine touches. The owner ("Dot") is worth the trip as well — — one can't imagine a finer "Southern" host who is more eager to please. If you like the South, you'll be missing something if you miss staying here. Even the quirks of this place are endearing. One can't imagine floors that creak more than this house, and after a short bit, become part of the charm of this house.
