Great Location, Great Breakfast. Comfortable affordable near everything.

Omg, where do I begin. Jessica took the best care of me and guest. She made us smile and giggle. All over staff was wonderful but she added that extra bit of comfort. I stayed in the main room which was big and comfortable. The bathroom was updated and large. I from I had my privacy even though we shared a space. I loved the location. You have a breath taking view of the river. You could even walk the peninsula to a gazebo overlooking the lake. Word of caution: it your looking for you and your date to get luck … APD might have some words with you. Oh and from time to time late at night you might have a urban camper surprise you and ask for a donation. Don't go by yourself at night as well. I like the fact that everyone was friendly and had a sense of community. So if your a free spirit, frugal, international and just a well rounded person who is cool with sharing space… your good ng to love the HI.

Nice hostel, affordable lodging right on the river. A scenic trial going all around the waterfront. A fair bit of activities and entertainment. A 14 day limit on a stay in a year, so be aware.

Quite spacious and clean. Clean towels are available everyday. It’s also less than 10 minutes away from downtown. Perfect place for students and travelers to spend the night if just passing through the city because the airport is also roughly 10-15mins away. Depending on the kind of travelers in your stay during your stay, you would have to deal with the room lights turned off because people are sleeping. Over all, it’s a nice affordable, place to stay. Less than $40 a night and you have a stocked kitchen with tools at your disposal.

Great location. The hostel was right on the lake and offered great events during the week. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The room itself was a little bit of a let down. The A/C was sketchy and made noises at all hours of the night and the room was humid and stuffy. The communal bathrooms and areas were always kept very clean.

Great bed, clean place, free food and activities, could improve on keeping quiet hours and keeping the tempeture not so cold.

Amazing location — easy bus ride to/from the airport and downtown, but right next to the river for your nature fix. The huge hammock outside was my main spot for my stay, but there's plenty of games and TV indoors if you need a break from the sun. Also quiet at night for those of us who need to sleep!

One of the better hostel experiences of my life. Considering the size of the dorms and it being during SXSW, everyone was very respectful and quiet. Common area is nice, food/coffee in the morning is appreciated. Free towels and showers clean. It's a little further out of town but the walk is nice and location is peaceful. Felt safe at any hour.

Everyone at HI Austin was amazing. Spent SXSW Weekend and it was great. Wonderful food for breakfast. The location is on the Lake Austin Side. Rooms and showers are clean. Can’t wait to come back again soon!

Really nice place, very relaxed environment. They have lockers you can put your stuff in, provide you with towels, blanket, and comfortable bed. Definitely will return my next visit out here. :)

Staff: They're really friendly and go above to ensure a pleasant stay. Location: The city's best watering holes in the 6th St district are very nearby, so enjoy to the best attractions the city has to offer Amenities: Breakfast is the usual affair with toast, fruits and milk. So should suffice many student travelers. It also has free parking if you need it. Overall: I'd say the experience was good.

Great location and friendly staff. They had a list of all the events going on each night. Made it really fun.

So I haven't actually been able to spend the night here, but I paid for 5 nights, deposit and everything because I thought I'd be in Austin for work for that long. Turns out, I didn't need to be! I was there for about 7 hours and they completely refunded me, including the deposit! Everyone's incredibly nice and in the future, this will be the place I go to.

I stayed here for about a week this past summer and it was great. They are right by the lake and it's very pretty. The hostel is very modern and well run. My favorite part of my stay was Game of Thrones Sunday hosted by Krys and of course the BBQ night which was very tasty.

Stayed here twice in the last couple months. Atmosphere is pretty cool and they have social events every once in a while. Beds are comfortable and there are plenty of blankets in case the room is too cold. The bathrooms are pretty bad though. The floors never feel very clean and the toilets are kind of falling apart.

This is one of my favorite places to stay in Austin. The travelers are awesome, the staff is friendly and super chill. If you have an Austin ID don't think you're gonna get in, no residents allowed to stay.

Best value for money in a hostel I stayed at for cleanliness and location. Was motorcycling across the country and had a good experience in all the hostels but this one I could stay at for a week or two no problem. Was very happy.

You get what you pay for. The only remark I'll make is that the third shift receptionist, a young African-American woman, was very friendly & helpful. She deserves better.

This place is a great hostel. Check in was easy and friendly. The bed was clean. And breakfast is nice and early. (I'm having bananas in cherios with black tea. But pancakes are available. ) The lake view from the lounge area is remarkable! I really need to make a nice long vacation here as it looks just like the perfect place to relax.

The location by Lady Bird Lake is unbeatable. The vibe is so chill and the paddle boarding deal with EPIC Sup on Thursdays is a great way to hang out and make new friends!

The location was awesome. It was right on the lake, so you could walk outside and lounge, paddle board, or walk right there. Parking was a touch difficult, and the cleanliness wasn't the best in the bathrooms (female). The staff was also hard to get a hold of. I called twice and never got a response, plus waited at the front desk for 5 minutes to check in. Overall though, it was a great experience. I've been to many HI hostels, and I would certainly return to this location.

Absolutely amazing stay at HI Austin Hostel. Blew away my expectations. First time staying in a hostel, everyone was super friendly. Kenny, the manager, took us on a very fun pub crawl after a great happy hour with free drinks at the hostel. Breakfast was perfect, simple and easy. Bathrooms were being renovated but there was a private shower that we were allowed to use that had no issues. Paustin was a great front desk receptionist, helped my friend make a same-day reservation. All in all, I hope to be back soon! I think I may have been a little spoiled by such a great first hostel experience, but if you're in Austin, take this as a recommendation to stay at HI Austin! At a quarter of the price of an average hotel, and an incredible, beautiful view of Ladybird Lake literally in the back yard, you can't go wrong.

Location is perfect, breakfast is good, facility is okay but dorms need ventilation system during winter season to avoid sleeping smells.

Really nice hostel thats in a fairly central location (about 20 minute walk to downtown) the hostel is clean and the staff are friendly. Rooms do have a fair few beds in but they are comfortable. There is free breakfast and there are optional activities each night. I would reccommend the hostel definately!

This place is in prime location! Easy access to EVERYTHING! The trails and being so close to the water was the highlight of our trip! The place itself was immaculate and spacious! We loved the breakfast in the morning. The staff was friendly and helpful. We will be back!

A very well located hostel with the usual trimmings: free breakfast, Wi-Fi, daily activities. We enjoyed our stay but there is quite a strange smell in the rooms as it is close to a lake, that can also get very hot. Parking is available out front and the fresh towels are great. We experienced an eclectic mix of other guests here who weren't that social which could be off putting for some.

It's pretty okay. It's a hostel, what are you expecting? Way cheaper than staying in a hotel, that's for certain. We reserved a private room — it had a very "used" quality about it — with a dimly-lit hanging fan that provided the atmosphere of spending the night at a weird cousin's house. The sheets were clean, but overall the bed made me feel like I might take on the nightmares of the people who slept in it before me. The staff were friendly, but kinda talkative late into the evening — and the front door slammed quite frequently. The bathroom shared by the three private rooms was clean but the shower's water pressure was a joke — I felt obliged to use the showers shared by the dorm-style rooms up the hall. Parking was never a problem, they have laundry machines, and the Buzz Mill up the street is THE place to catch breakfast and a coffee before exploring Austin. Overall, a hostel. Cheap… cheaper than even a AirBnB will cost you, and probably more reliable. If you're not persnickety, this place will suit its purpose.

Staff was friendly, nice kitchen and bathrooms. Didn't get to stick around much but seemed like a cool place in a pretty area. Large rooms (14 beds! ) with a few snorers but pillows are good for smothering.

Great location! UT bus (free) stop is less than a block away. Accommodations comfortable, friendly & helpful staff, very clean! Leigh & Jonah were consistently top notch during my 2 week stay!

While this hostel is in a great location it reminds of a frat house, especially during the weekend. The music from the bar downstairs can be heard through the walls even on the 2 floor. Quiet hours are hardly enforced and the rooms are plain but they have lockers which is a plus. The staff was courteous and the price is reasonable. If your coming to Austin to experience the nightlife and sleep is the last thing on your mind, then this is a great spot. If you wanna sleep at night, then I would suggest you look elsewhere.

I had a great experience at the HI Austin on January 31st, 2015. It's spacious, clean, and the people were all nice and cool. For a hostel, this was a great price, and the amenities were generous.

Such a beautiful experience. The staff was exceptional. Always willing to give advice, support, and accommodate. The bathrooms, common rooms, rooms, and grounds were all well maintained and beautiful. It's an $8.00 cab ride to downtown 6th street && about a $10 cab ride to congress street. It's located right on a beautiful beach as well. I had an incredible time. Would definitely stay here again.

Very nice hostel. $25/night beds. Included pancakes for breakfast. Offers trips to float down the San Marcos river during the summer for a reasonable fee, along with other local events. Close to many happenin' things, but not toooo close to downtown.

I took my first trip to Austin in 2012 and was pleased when I got here. The place looks like a house on the lake. The staff are very cool and helpful (and know about all the good shows), plus the kitchen is basically always loaded with stuff for guests. The hostel is not in a convenient location, though (across the lake), so get a bus pass before you check in.

Stayed Sep 22 Cons: *The rooms need BETTER ventilation, its stuffy and very uncomfortable. *The hostel isnt very clean. The rate wasn't what it was originally supposed to be. Pros: Great location within close proximity to many great places. Friendly service. Would I stay there again? No, I'd keep on lookong around.
