Worst experience ever! My wife and I along with our three kids arrived about 2230 to the HIE in Medford, OR after being on the road for about 11 hours. We had reserved a room with two queens for the night. Check in was painful as the person did not seem to know what he was doing. After finally getting our room we went up only to find that it was smelly and dirty with fast food trash and the beds looked to have been slept on. We went back downstairs to get another room only to be told that there were no other rooms. He offered a king with a roll-away. Remember that there were five of us. I told him that that would not be suitable for us so he said that we would have to wait for him to go and clean the room. At that time another person came in looking for the same type of room and finally left in frustration as the attendant could not help him either. At that time his relief came and they both went upstairs to clean the room. They came down 5-10 minute later and told us that the room was ready. The relief attendant walked us up to the room and assured us that it was taken care of. I asked if the sheets had been changed and he stated that no because someone had sat on them but had not slept in them so they just smoothed the covers. When we got into the room it had a very heavy smell of disinfectant but looked clean. Once the attendant left we inspected the beds and found that they had bread crumbs and body hair on both beds. We also found that the soap was used and not replaced. I called to the front desk and asked for replacement sheets and pillow cases due to our findings. The linen was brought up and we eventually changed all of the sheets and pillow cases and laid down to sleep at approximately midnight. The loud humming of the air conditioning unit made it difficult to fall asleep. In the morning we went down to talk to the manager on duty and get some breakfast before hitting the road again. No one showed up at the front desk for 20 minutes as we got some breakfast. Which again was another challenge. The food was was not good. The biscuits were extremely dry and food items were depleted. Like I stated we waited for about 20 minutes but no one from the kitchen nor the front desk showed up. We finally left and decided to get something better on the road. I am extremely disappointed with HIE as this is not the quality that I am used to. I have a business trip in September and I am really evaluating the benefit/value at staying at another HIE.
