The best thing about Shell Island resort is the fantastic location facing the ocean, and yet just across the street from the sound. We do a lot of paddling and exploring nature on the sound side (fiddler crabs, oysters etc. ) The indoor and outdoor pool are great when the water is rough, or the beach is too hot. The resort restaurant has enough variety to satisfy everyone in our family, plus there are so many good restaurants in the area. The kitchenettes are great for whipping up some breakfasts & light lunches to avoid going out for all meals. All units are owned by different owners, so there is some variety in the type of mattresses, hence good to inquire if you need a firm mattress etc. They do have mattress toppers available. We've been coming here for six years. We find the resort cleanly and the housekeeping staff very helpful if you have specific requests.

My sister booked this hotel for a week and I met her for the last day/night, so I did not pay for this hotel. That being said, the cleanliness of her hotel room was so-so. Red-scum rings around the tub, toilets, sinks, and mineral deposits on the glass shelves in bathroom. No, not the worst, but the cleanliness of hotel bathrooms should be superb, not so-so. Secondly, there are only two elevators — so expect to wait a few minutes as it's hard to cram several people into one since everyone has beach luggage. Everything else was very nice. The hotel is very convenient to the beach with a place to rinse off afterward. Nice outdoor and indoor pool. There was live music beside the pool for us to enjoy either at the pool or from our balcony. When we requested extra bedding at the service desk, we were promptly given some, and they delivered a bell cart to our room at check out. All staff that I communicated with were friendly and efficient. Not the worst place, not the best. I just recommend the hotel amp their cleaning game up.

Attended a charter meeting that was catered buffet style. Food was very good, however I was a little surprised at a $35 per person fee to have barbecue and fried chicken. The dining room was large and decorated very nicely. Wait staff was very attentive. Meeting room was a little warm and cramped, but sound was good.

Great views of ocean and sound! Our unit was beautiful. The doorman under the umbrella was so awesome — helped us big time in the pouring rain. Great guy! Hallways are a bit worn but great place overall. Would definitely go back.

Pretty amazing place for being my first time here. The beach is absolutely amazing. The resort is also a great place because of the staff and amenities. They offer everything from the beach to an outside/inside pool with a pleasant indoor/outdoor restaurant with live bands/ musicians! The other guests are very pleasant and friendly.

Amazing Manager and staff. Had to leave the DIRTY Silver Gull Motel AT 1AM due to rats and called this amazing resort. They were very friendly and understanding of the situation. They helped us out so much. We have this amazing room! And housekeeping is very sweet! I will stay here from now on! Thank you!

Room was great! Very relaxing I just didn’t like the breakfast staff they did not really wanna help. The man that was making the waffles was very rude to my husband and me also. The girl with the two pigtails didn’t have a slight clue about anything we asked and was no help.

Overpriced for what they offer. Definitely was not worth the $200+/nt. Stay, especially in April. Rooms are small and shabby for the price you pay. The water has a horrible rotten egg smell that is very overwhelming. Almost made my wife sick just from the smell. Mixed drinks were way overpriced for what they offered too. About the only thing good that we experienced from this place was the ocean views and the staff was very friendly. Other than that, don't waste your money on this place. Definitely not a "Resort" atmosphere & experience.

Our room was nice but I noticed some of the rooms are in severe need of updating. Our shower had hardly any water pressure and the water smelled like rotten eggs. The indoor pool is so heavily chlorinated we got chemical burns. There is also no ventilation in the indoor pool so it is hard to breath and then when you leave your throat and lungs will burn when you breath. The hot tub jets hardly worked and I am pretty sure they haven't cleaned it in a while. To get info on stuff even as simple as asking where the laundry facilities was located we were told we had to come down to the front desk. We are not planning on staying here again.

Incredibly friendly staff! Suite was very clean, view to the ocean was exquisite. Clean beach, dolphins in the water, pelicans in the air. Don't believe that I have ever been so relaxed on a vacation! Just beware of the speed limits surrounding the area, the law enforcement personnel take their role to the extreme.

The view is really great. Apparently, different people own different parts of the building, and so the decor and overall ambiance varies pretty dramatically from one room to the next. My sister's room, with the same floorplan as mine, was really cute. Mine, not so much. A local water-tower was being worked on, and our water didn't smell good, so we went out and bought bottled for drinking. Good enough for our family, but I could maybe see how someone else would give three stars.

Check in was a breeze, the restaurant served good food, the views were amazing, the resort provided pretty much everything you would need to prepare a meal in your suite, the indoor pool was warm, the beach was easily accessible, and the staff was friendly. We went during the off season and felt what we paid was a fair price. Housekeeping wasn't very thorough, but kept plenty of towels stocked and came by daily to make beds, clean toilets, etc.

Every unit faces the ocean unparallel viewing especially from the higher floors PODS of dolphins swim by regularly in the morning and in the evening. The beaches absolutely beautiful. Some of the amenities at Shell Island need to be updated especially their hot tub. Which seems to sporadically. All rooms look different as they are decorated to the individual owners likes. But we've always had a great time at Shell Island.

We are currently staying in the hotel… first off Shane is AMAZING! Love the room and the view! However, every time we walked by the restaurant it was empty. We just figured it was off times. Nope! I didn't read the crappy reviews before we went and I paid for it, literally. I'm sensitive to alcohol in drinks, I can taste it every time. I got a rum runner that had 151 on top. I promise you there was NO alcohol at all! It was like a lemonade. We ordered shrimp scampi and our dinner. The shrimp came out and we cancelled our dinner order. 6 shrimp for how much?! I wasn't paying $23 for shrimp and grits and it come out with a toddler size portion. Instead we gave the waitress a $9 tip and explained the issue. It isn't fair to her. How does she make money?! The whole point of going down there was to not have to leave, we wanted to relax. Well… we had to leave anyways, after getting aggravated. You guys really need to fix your issue! Maybe more people would eat there. You're a resort, have resort food. The hotel is 5/5… restaurant is 0/5 if that's even possible.

My husband and I got married at Shell Island on May 16, 2015. The venue was beautiful! We choose Shell Island over other neighboring islands because in case it rained, Shell Island’s reception hall’s surrounding glass would have allowed to still be able to see the beach. Thank goodness the weather was perfect and we enjoyed the beach and the beautiful reception area for our reception.

Beautiful location, right on the beach at the end of Wrightsville. Rooms are a bit dated and weren't especially clean. The front desk service was just okay. Breakfast at the restaurant was about average, but with spectacular view of ocean. Outdoor pool and jacuzi looked to be in good shape, although I didn't go in because it was in 40's outside.

Lobby looks nice, and the rooms have excellent ocean views. HOWEVER, the rooms were awful — — tired, worn, and sad. Our family stayed in two units, and both were plagued with flies. We asked for help with flies four times; housekeeping sent us a broken fly swatter. When l complained at checkout, the person at the desk said that they "didn't have any spray. " Neither his mother nor his high school teachers would have accepted such a lame answer. ("I didn't do my homework because l didn't have a pencil. ") Management needs course in problem solving. Won't be back.

First, rooms are owned by individual's and the place is run by a management company. They do not determine quality of the room, that is set by the individual room owners. 1. Many of the rooms are dumpy and not maintained. (like in a nice hotel). The rooms were given out to guests based on the longest from last rental. 2. Of the three couples we talked to while at the resort, two requested a room change at check in because of the condition of the room (that is 3 of 4 of us). 3. You can rent two beach chairs and an umbrella for 35.00 a day. (yes really) 4. Don't expect your room to be serviced every day, like in most hotels. Quote from Management " We can find people to hire". 5. Overall the property is well worn.

Pros: Great view of the ocean and the inside of the room was very spacious; it provided more room than you'd get in a regular hotel room with a separate bedroom. Having a separate kitchen/dining/living room area was great. However, the outdoor hallways, "fitness room", elevator area, and other common areas were very outdated and beat up looking. It needs a total makeover to take it out of feeling like 1990 (we were here over a year ago but I doubt anything has changed based on other reviews). The restaurant food was ok. Had a rude waitress at breakfast, so later I gave feedback and the mgr. Responded with a nice email. For the lofty price, it was not worth it. We will be staying at a more modern hotel resort in Wrightsville Beach the next time.

The resort is a bit dated, but it has been remodeled very tastefully. We only stayed one evening, but the bed was very comfortable and the amenities were wonderful. Recommend to anyone interested in staying in Wrightsville Beach!

Wonderful! As usual. I just returned home from my second trip of the summer. My family has been vacationing at Shell Island for several years now. Thanks to Jamie at the front desk, Shaun on the beach and Bonnie at the restaurant. Being in business for many years myself know that it is people that make or break your business. Look forward to visiting again soon.

The room was great! I absolutely loved the balcony it was so relaxing sitting on it at night listening to the waves! The staff was all very friendly and accommodating. There was plenty of space on the beach in front of the resort. I would definitely stay at Shell Island Resort in the future.

A little pricey, but well worth it! All rooms/apartments are ocean front. Indoor and outdoor pools. Enjoyed great drinks at the bar and the food in the restaurant looked delicious. Did not disappoint at all. Wrightsville Beach is the most peaceful serene place in the south when your enjoying it from this resort.

Lots to say about this resort. Pros: The breakfast here is amazing. Eggs, Sausage, Pancakes, coffee, etc. Everything you could want cooked and prepared to perfection. The view is stunning all around the resort. Very wide, spacious rooms that encourage a relaxing, unforgettable vacation. Cons: THE WATER IS DISGUSTING! Salty shower water, sink water, and fountain water. I've never been to a resort this expensive and had to drink from bottled water because the fountain water is too salty to drink from. Its pretty much unbearable to take a shower a here because you smell exactly like the ocean when you come out. Not a resort that I would recommend going to. But if the view is worth it for you, have at it. Feeling clean and having drinking water is more important for me.

It was a phenomenal experience, I enjoyed I enjoyed I love the rooms of the hotel clean and the service, or say I loved it I had fun at their alberc. I'll come back soon that's why I give it 5 stars.

The beach is wonderful. It isn't crowded and it is very kid friendly. The hotel itself has great views of the beach. The rooms are a bit underwhelming considering the price, however. The tap water tastes awful so bring bottled water. The bed wasn't very firm and had inadequate covers. The shower had kind of weak water pressure. The refrigerator in our room had a leak that left a persistent puddle on the floor.

Wonderful scenic spot right on a beautiful beach. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly, and I couldn't ask for anything more on that score! Seriously — super helpful, friendly, attentive staff that made me really happy. Rooms are good — solid layout, and feel like little condos on the water. But the rooms don't come with some of the things you might expect — e. G. They have a dishwasher but no dish soap. Food at the hotel could use a little work.

The room we stayed in was clean, with a powder room and bathroom (good for room sharing) and an efficiency kitchenette (two electric burners, microwave, sink and dorm refrigerator) that fed us pancakes and rewarmed takeout. We only stayed overnight so we didn't try the restaurant (although it looked nice). Everything was neat and clean and staff members were helpful and respectful. The beach here is broad and modestly sloped with sand bars and tide pools at low tide. The outer water was a little choppy due to the 25mph gusts but still shallow enough for our 4 year old with grown-up accompaniment. And when the grown-ups tire of bobbing in the surf the tide pools offer a safe place to splash and play with beach toys.

The staff has been excellent and very helpful. We stayed in a recently renovated room. The carpet is super plush, and the beds were so soft they hug you. The couch had stains on it from a previous guest sitting on it wet. The floor plan is very smartly designed. It has a full fridge, small two burner cook top, full sink, and a microwave. The balcony provided excellent views, sights, and sounds. I don't know if everything at the beach has this problem or just the hotel, but the water tasted funny. All in all our experience was a very good one. I would stay here again.

Wonderful, it's right next to them sea, it has an indoor and outdoor pool, and some great breakfast. The rooms are also roomy, there are 3 beds, a couch, two rocking chairs, and a table with 6 chairs. The kitchen is a bit small but it gets it's job done.

If I could give negative stars I would. My daughters stayed here for my son's wedding. The room was filthy not queen beds as advertised. Small and cramped. The elevators smelled. They changed our room but this room also had trash behind the bed. They did not offer a discount or additional services for their inconvenience. Don't stay here.

Our family had a good experience staying here for 3 nights. Nice room with excellent view of the ocean. Staff members were friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed the easy access to the beach. Will return.

The water smelled like crusty eggs. The pool had grody buttcrack sand all in the bottom. The behtroom was small and it was a freezer in there, Sheila! And we had to pay 2 dollars and fitty cent for a fracking toofbrush! The hot tub was a heck of a good time tho. And the staff let us stay in the pool later than we were actually allowed bc we were so cool. The staff was the realio dealio. The elevators were kool too. Nice views, grate staff, and comfy pillers. I give 3 stars.

Good hotel. Rooms are a little cramped but are otherwise ok. Great ocean views. The staff are great.

Clean rooms, friendly staff, and great views are some of the reasons I liked this resort. We will return for another visit.

I came down for just one night but really enjoyed the views and food. The rooms are roomy and the food was yummy. You have to try the breakfast. For 11.99 the buffet doesn't get any better.

This place has really gone down hill. Our rooms were nasty and housekeeping did not come until we called… then showed up at 7 PM. The shower had black stains and the water smelled and tasted terrible. The fitness room was tiny with very little equipment and missing weights… and the AC had been broken for some time so they put a dehumidifier in there to help… but it was not working because it was full and overflowing. The breakfast buffet was good but overpriced.

It was a good experience. A rare Mommy and Daddy weekend. A nice corner room with good views. The amenities are a bit sparse compared to nicer complexes. The pool area a bit small, but the beach area large and it wasn't a busy time of year. If you want a bustling area go to Myrtle Beach, otherwise for a quick getaway this worked nicely.

Must say between Charleston, Myrtle Beach, and Wrightsville. Hands down Wrightsville Beach at the Shell Island Resort is the best sofar and we will most definitely be coming baci again this summer.

Shell Island is a nice oceanfront hotel that is clean and cheap. It also has a separate bedroom and a kitchen which was a plus for privacy. This is a affordable yet very nice option for staying on Wrightsville Beach! The staff was wonderful, also!

We had a terrific time here! Big family beach weekend, shell island was perfect with its reasonable prices for a beach front hotel. Our room was spacious and clean, two beds for my husband and I and my parents to sleep plus the 3 kids slept on the pull out couch. Ocean view was great. Kids loved the pool and the beach, while we loved the outdoor bar! The restaurant on premises was perfect for grabbing a quick breakfast before heading out for day 2. Would definitely return and recommend!
