Do not make a reservation at this complex. Was refused a refund on deposit of $218.00 for reservations made several weeks ago. Hurricane Isais made landfall on August 7, 2020, which directly affected Southport and surrounding areas with indefinite curfews from 6pm — 7am each day as of Tuesday, 8/4 when we contacted Expedia to cancel. Reservation dates: Friday, 8/7 through Monday, 8/10. Prior to arrival date contacted Expedia and attempted to contact the hotel Wyngate directly by phone and was unable to reach any staff. Then called Expedia and their representative also tried to contact the hotel directly to no avail. Expedia then instructed me not to cancel the reservation as they would contact the hotel using their next level customer support. Email received on 8/5 from Expedia stated they were still attempting to contact the hotel to no avail. Next email received from Expedia was on 8/9 stating my request for refund was denied. Upon contacing the hotel, I was then sent from them back to Expedia back to Wyngate then directly to the parent company Wyndham who then send me back to Wyngate. I called the Wyngate hotel again and spoke with the GM, Mr. Patel, who again is saying I need to contact Expedia and will not refund the deposit as his hotel was "booked" (not believing that one) and that they had power and telephone service before and after the hurricane made landfall. Question: How come no one answered their phones? Unfortunately, Mr.

Had a friend stay there he smokes and will not throw his cigarette butts on the ground. So he will put them in his pockets and throw them away when he gets home. He stayed there and forgot to empty his pockets. They found them and charged him 250 dollars because they presumed he was smoking in his room. How would they like it if he got bit by something. And presumed they had bed bugs.

This place is has awesome prices if you are looking for somewhere with cheap hotel rates. Has Breakfast included and is minutes from Southport. If you wanna go to the beach just take a ferry and drive to Kure beach or Wilmington. There is also shops, bakeries, wine shop, and many more places to visit close by. The hotel also sits right beside and Irish pub with great beers and food.

I stayed here in 2011 and had a good experience; however, when we went back earlier in 2018 I was very disappointed. We decided to take a last-minute trip with kids, and booked our room through one of the discount travel sites because we found a good deal. When we booked, the 3rd party site stated that the room type would be assigned during check-in, the hotel staff said that there was only one room type available to us because of how we booked (and we came to check-in at 3 pm). Once we got to our room, it was in a pretty bad state. We would have asked to change rooms if we were staying more than one night or if we would have been spending much time in the room. There was exposed wiring under the in-room AC unit (we were travelling with a toddler and preschooler), the roll away cot had holes in the mattress, we found trash by the bottom of the night stand, and popcorn kernels in the bathroom. I don't think we plan on returning, simply because of the state of the room. Also, it's worth noting that we did NOT complain to the hotel staff about the room condition, so they didn't have a chance to remedy the situation. The breakfast was nice, and was a little better than some of the hotel breakfasts I have seen.

Decent place to stay. Breakfast was good. Close to Oak Island. Make sure you bring your own pillows… their pillows are not comfy.

Relatively clean, friendly staff and decent free continential breakfast. We stayed just one night for a quick getaway. For the price, I can't complain.

Great rooms and great service. Nice breakfast spread as well. Hotel was five minutes to the Southport sea wall and about ten minutes to Caswell or Oak Island beaches. Will definitely go back here again.

Staff is nice and attentive. Pool area closes really early compared to most hotels (dust/as soon as the sun goes down) hot tub not working at our stay. Floors have stains throughout the hotel. In general it is fairly nice.

This was a horribly dirty hotel and I'm embarrassed to say that I even stayed here. The first morning in the hotel, I discovered a dirty washcloth had been left in the bathroom by the previous guests. When I woke up my husband to tell him about the washcloth, I discovered a huge blood stain in the sheets I had slept in that night. I called the front desk and they never once apologized; just said that they would make sure housekeeping changed our sheets. At the end of the stay I found two roaches in the bathroom. The night before we left and the morning we left, both of our towels had huge holes in them. The morning we left, I was showering and looked up to find a roach in the top corner of the tub. I once again called the front desk and they never once apologized. I have never complained about a hotel, but I will never stay here again and would strongly discourage anyone else from staying here.

We accidentally made a reservation with our pets and the management graciously found all of us a room in a sister property during busy season. We were so thankful they helped us fix our mistake. Would definitely recommend.

I stayed at the Wingate while paying my respects to my mom and dad at the cemetery. The hotel was fine for what I needed and the front desk clerk assisted me when I needed help. The morning breakfast buffet was satisfying and energized me for the 14.5hr drive back to Chicago, IL. Clean rooms, comfortable bedding, a breakfast spread, and helpful staff, if that is what you are looking for, then this Wingate hotel is for you.

We arrived in the evening after being on the road for two days. Upon entering the room we were welcomed by the wave of heat and a funky smell. The AC was off, curtains we're open and the sun was blasting in with all it's might, (facing west). The window was fixed, so instead of enjoying awesome night brezee we had to turn on the AC unit. The sweet, moth-ball like sent didn't go away the next day. The cleanness of the room and bath was average. Some moldy grouts here and there but shower curtain was clean. I liked the area with little fridge and microwave. The biggest disappointment was breakfast. They didn't have a high chair, which I can deal with… But the food was just really poor. Don't get me wrong I didn't try every thing, I skipped oranges, apple wrapped in foil, and instant oatmeal you could prep. There were eggs and waffles. I went for the waffles. We poured some of the dough to the maker and waited. Husband brought them to the table when they were ready. Looked fine. But that was only the first impression. After a while they shrank and turned to almost small balls of soupy dough. Don't ask me how is that possible. We tried one more time, and cook it slightly longer than timer suggested. That didn't help. We grabbed last little milk from the fridge and had cereal I brought from home in our room. I have one more comment about the breakfast. All the plates and cups we're made of styrofoam, really wastefull and bad for environment. So why did I give it two stars?

Great location close to downtown and the beach. The building was nice and the room was clean and comfortable! The staff was friendly and professional. It was a great choice for us and we would stay here again.

Olga, at the front desk has helped make our companies stay at the Wingate so easy nd peaceful. She is easy to talk to and very on it! She has great communication sales and cares very much about customers. This is the 2nd time in two weeks our company has chosen this hotel! I give it a 5 star rating because how quickly and easily they got oyur company in and how it was waiting for us! This place is great.

Just need an few extra shower towels and extra soap for TWO people. Rooms can be better than this. The rooms needs a change of carpeting and new king size bed. This bed is over used and old. This bed pic was from another Windham Hotel which I stayed at the night before and was nicely upgraded.

Beds are comfortable, although I really hate the small square pillows. It's clean enough but could use some work and updating of some of the furniture. The duvets did have some oily stains on them that the front desk quickly replaced. I loved that after we were checked in after about 15 minutes we were called by the front desk to check on our family and our rooms. It's close to the fairy and attractions without being incredibly expensive, so the value for what you get is okay.

Poor service and think but not sure I got bit by a bed bug.

This place wasn't clean, bed comforter was torn, old blood stains on sheets, only gave 2 towels and the floors were even dirty. If you stay here hope you have a better experience than we did.

Stay was nice and quiet! Location is great, right down the road from the pier. Bed was average, but room was very clean! Would stay here again.

We are being relocated to Southport and stayed here while looking for a home. The hotel was clean and quiet. The young man at the front desk when we got in that night was very helpful and price matched what I found online. They have complementary breakfast 6am-9am. We really enjoyed how smooth our stay was and if need be this is the hotel we'll be staying in everytime.

Spacious, clean rooms with a somewhat comfortable bed but spread has stains, and bed has tiny brick-like pillows. (We were told there were not larger pillows but we found that the closet contained 1 larger pillow for the sofa bed… hummm) Sofa bed is awful! We booked because it advertised hot tub, however it didn't say online that it's closed for the winter or that it's seasonal. Will not stay here again.

Not great for day sleepers. Window coverings are inadequate. Major sun seepage. Staff are wonderful!

Always stay at this location knowledgeable staff in the place was clean the prices were good continental breakfast was good I have no complaints. If planning a trip I would stay there again and again and again.

Found this hotel to be clean and friendly. Free breakfast was hot food not just pastries. Eggs, sausage, waffles, toast juice, coffee and more. Rooms were large and comfortable with fridge, coffee maker and microwave. Enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

Awful! Room feels moist! Given a room that accommodates physical limitations — we did not request such. This shower was awful: too short for me let alone for 6'2" hubby; whole bathroom floor gets wet; and no bathroom fan. Breakfast is greatly needing taste.

King size bed was comfy, room was spacious and the staff was extremely pleasant. Good continental breakfast every morning starting at 6:30. The only thing that I didn't really care for was I have never had a hotel debit ANY money from my account until I arrived. They debited the first night from my account the day I was to arrive and the remainder PLUS 9.75% as a security deposit when we arrived.

We stayed at a horrible Inn in Wilmington. We decided to leave and came here. We walked in and immediately felt better. The staff was very helpful and the room was very nice and clean! I will recommend this hotel to anyone. We were very happy with our stay.

It seems like a new property which makes it very nice. Clean and nicely appointed. Very convenient to everything in town and other shopping. Nice pool and work out room. Breakfast good — adequate. Overall very good for the price.

The Wingate is a superior hotel. The staff has helped me every time. They serve fantastic breakfast, and have plenty of room to relax in. The rooms they provide are great. The bed is very comfortable to sleep in. The view around the town from the hotel is fantastic as well. There are plenty of places to shop in the proximity. There are plenty of amenities at the hotel, including a pool and a fitness center. There is also a shop located next to the lobby for convenient items. They also provide laundry service. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone to stay at.

Close to several restaurants and shops, the room w a nice and clean, and service is wonderful.

Everything was awesome except the bed was not comforable.

The room and bathroom were dirty. Toothpaste on the sink handle, dirty washcloths on the shower curtain rod, dirty counterpane on the foot of the bed. The hallway smelled bad. The breakfast was decent and the night clerk was nice. That was it's only saving grace.

Service here is wonderful… I've stayed in this hotel for 4 months while working nights the staff made sure I was able to sleep fine during the day and helped find time to still clean the room occasionally. Pool are is clean but there are broken chairs but who cares the beach is minutes away! Like I said great staff recommend for any to stay here!

Very clean and comfortable room. Friendly staff greets you as you enter and leave. Awesome location! very close to Southport shopping and convenient Grocery stores, bars, Etc. Great continental breakfast included in your stay! The price is also very reasonable. You are 10 minutes from Oak Island/Caswell beach and a 30 minute drive to downtown Wilmington. I will definitely be staying here again!

RUDE! I just called to book at room and the manager was beyond RUDE! I finally just hung up and called a booked a condo with Margerate Rudd! Which was cheap than a hotel room!

What a beautiful hotel! The front desk staff were quite helpful and friendly in suggesting things to do in the area and giving directions. Upon checking into our room, we found it to be white glove spotless and looking practically brand new. It included updated furniture and the bed was easy to sleep in. The pool and whirlpool area were well taken care of and I loved that it was fenced in and slightly hidden from passerbys. The morning breakfast included in our stay was extensive including bagels, english muffins, toast, waffles, eggs, bacon, cereal, yogurt. The attendant was constantly cleaning and picking up as we ate and kept the area quite neat. Being in the event planning industry, and staying at many hotels, I can say that I would stay here again HANDS DOWN and will make it a point to come back.

There one night bitten by bedbugs. Came home and they followed me. Great expense to get rid of them. Told by locals they have a history of bed bug infestation.

We felt our moldy room at the Wingate Inn was unfit and too dangerous to stay in another night. There was mold on the lamp shade, dark circles all over the carpet (possible mold), a leak on the ceiling above the air conditioner (turned out the ceiling was wet), mold on the curtains above the air conditioner, and mold on the wall in the bathroom. The hotel was booked so WE had to call every hotel in town to find another place to stay. My family finally found another hotel 30 mins away and evacuated at 12am. The next morning, I contacted the manager who was rude. So I contacted corporate. I was told the head manager would contact me in a few days but I heard nothing. They acted like they could care less my family was sleeping in a mold infested room. The only thing the hotel offered was a refund for the one night we were there (so much for going above and beyond to make the situation right). We have stayed in this hotel before with no problems, but never again. This could have serious health risks on their guests and they should take it seriously. I would love to know what kind of mold my family was exposed to but I guess we'll never know. Lesson learned. We will never use this hotel chain again.

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend in September 2011 and we LOVED it. If only all hotels could be THIS clean.

Very clean the whole facility smells of a fruit disinfectant. The staff is courteous and helpful. Laundry room only has one operational dryer.

Awesome place to stay, the service and staff were fantastic. Rooms extremely clean. No bugs.
