Whenever I went to check on our room availability, for one they very rude, and being disabled, I walk with a cane.
Before I even walked out the door, they were commenting "does it look like she could've walked a 1/4 mile? " "Oh no" the other said, "I dont think so… " making fun a a disabled women, who went to cool herself in the pool, after waiting from 12pm till 3:39 for our room.
Accusing and very demeaning.

Cons: large healthy cockroaches everywhere outside the hotel and one in the room. We saw one in the bathroom of a retail beach shop in the same town and it was in the bathroom. I am not sure if its a that area issue or what. One touched my foot and it was so gross.
No dryers in the laundry department.

The indoor heated pool was not a heated indoor pool.
Musty smell was terrible in the room.

My husband and I loved staying at the Winds for our honeymoon! Our suite was clean and had a great view — they also stock the little kitchenettes with played, cups, and cookware for you to use during your stay. The complimentary breakfast buffet is fantastic including things like eggs, sausage links, bacon, biscuits and gravy, yogurt, pastries, and a waffle making station. The pools are very relaxing, and the oceanfront pool has a tiki bar that is consistently staffed with a wonderful bartender. We will absolutely be back to the Winds. :)

It was our first time staying at The Winds. After driving 7 hours from Calvert County, MD, we were ready to relax & enjoy. There was a little issue with the room after we checked in, but I want to take the time to thank the Manager & the excellent staff for handling the issue without hesitation and accommodating us above & beyond. Our week stay for great. I will definitely return home and tell my friends about this wonderful place to vacation. Really enjoyed!

This resort is clean and well maintained for being so close to the ocean where people track sand and water all over. The outside pool is clean, and the tiki bar is cute with good drink choices and friendly staff. There's some places to sit down and enjoy the outside. The breakfast was really nice considering no other places offer that. One weekend, we stayed on the island side, it wasn't a far walk to the beach access for the resort. This weekend, we stayed ocean side on the third floor and had a great view. It is family friendly and quiet.

The Winds was a great place to stay. There was a Groupon to stay here so we decided to book it and it was a great decision. The rooms were very clean when we got there, the housekeepers were very kind and came and went whenever we wanted. They always gave us what we wanted and were very happy. The breakfast was very good and fresh every morning and the family that runs it is very kind. The other features such as the pool, bar, gym and other were very nice and well kept. I’ll definitely be visiting here again.

Rented the penthouse for a night and the air conditioning stopped working. Didn't sleep well at all! The grounds were beautiful and we had a great view. The food at the breakfast buffet was typical but it was good and well stocked to feed a crowd. Had the AC been working properly, I would probably give this a five star review.

One niece gave it a 5, the other a 4, so it’s really a 4.5. I could have gone without the cats and for some reason there were a lot of flies on the street side sidewalks, but I can say the breakfast was amazing, access to the three pools awesome, the beach access/view as gorgeous (however as someone out of shape be prepared for the up and downs with the stairs to get over the dunes especially after dragging yourself out of the sand. ). Now the Wi-Fi was a little sketchy but OIB is really about relaxing and not doing any major work. Housekeeping did a phenomenal job and was in and out with little effort. The cozy boardwalks for each floor were so cute. For those who haven’t been, they have little clothes lined outside your room for your beach/pool wear. The staff was courteous. I nearly stroked out on one of the bikes but that free access is just a bonus for the nostalgic moments.

My family and I have been traveling to Ocean Isle for the last few years and absolutely love it! We were lucky to hear of The Winds before our first visit and we do not wish to stay anywhere else! Every amenity they offer fully exceeds your expectations. Every visit has been better than the time before. A-lot of people may complain on reviews of their pricey in season prices but I'd rather pay more to stay in a family oriented, beautiful, clean and safe resort that truly take care of their customers needs and make them feel at home on their stay. We look forward to our 2018 family vacation in August!

My family had a blast here, very affordable for us, not to far from home. I felt like my family was in a safe place and everything was conveniently located nearby, shops grocery store. Etc. Well worth the money. All the staff are great.! The Cabana is greatly appreciated as well we'll be back soon!

My wife and I came here for a one night getaway in the middle of the week. Pre-Memorial Day, so it was off-season. We were extremely pleased with our stay. We arrived before our room was ready, but we were able to get our parking pass and use of all the facilities. The pool area was very clean, and changing rooms were clean, however the women's room door didn't lock. The beach was very clean and quiet, a relaxing experience. They have on site rental for any beach items you may need (chairs, umbrellas, coolers, etc). When our room was ready, we were extremely pleased. The rooms are clean, bright, and give you a very beach vacation feel. We were in one of the buildings the farthest away from the beach, but it was maybe a 3 minute walk to get to the beach. While it was a weekday, off peak stay, the room and area surrounding was very quiet and peaceful. Our stay included a free breakfast. The breakfast was on par for hot breakfasts. The eggs were not great quality, but there were also bacon, sausage, potatoes, grits, etc. Which were very good. There was fruit, but it looked to be canned and swimming in a syrup, so we passed on that. We'd definitely come back here on any future visits to Ocean Isle Beach!

Awesome place to stay on the beach. Reasonably priced and has a fun tiki bar with great food. Kim is the best bartender. Rooms are clean and very nice. Can't wait to go back.

The Winds is a wonderful, inviting, relaxing place to stay. My Jasmine King oceanfront room was perfect. Good size, spotless, and wonderful view of the ocean, just yards away. The breakfast served each morning is hearty and tasty. The tiki bar at the pool is fun and the hot tub is a great addition to chilly evenings. I stayed in late April for 3 nights and will be returning in October for 4 nights. This is a wonderful getaway and there are also several bars and restaurants within a few miles, with both uber and taxis just minutes away. This is no 4-star mega resort. And for that, I'm thankful… :)

Staying here was by far, the best vacation I've ever been on. There are so many good things to say about this place I have no idea where to even start. From the Guest Service's Manager Gary, going above and beyond with his hospitality to ensure my stay was as enjoyable as possible, to the housekeeping staffs upkeep on the rooms, to the groundskeeper going out of his way by walking around to make sure I didn't miss a good sunrise photo, to the amazing ladies in the Garden Room where you get an amazing complimentary breakfast, that is by far the best complementary breakfast I've ever had, to the fact that they take care of cats that someone left behind during a stay years ago. Are all reasons we ended up staying another day, although it was the worst weathered day we had. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a vacation.

There were 7 adult family members in our party attending a nearby family gathering. Be very careful if you book online! The room names and descriptions are confusing. We are experienced world travelers. I booked 2 rooms based on the description below as it appears on their website. " Combination Double Suite: A Jasmine Guest Room and a Hibiscus Single Suite can be combined to offer an oceanfront Combination Double Suite. First floor suites have a queen bed and a twin sleeper sofa in the master bedroom, two queen beds in a second bedroom, a set of bunk beds in an inset in the hallway, two bathrooms, full kitchen, coffee maker, living room, dining room, and a patio. Upper floor suites have a king bed in the master bedroom, two queen beds in a second bedroom, a set of bunk beds in an inset in the hallway, two bathrooms, full kitchen, living room, dining room, and a garden view patio. " I thought I had booked 2 — two bedroom units, 1 upper and 1 lower. That was not the case. When we got there after finding our rooms with difficulty we discovered we had 1 two bedroom unit and 1 efficiency. This would not work with the number in our group. So then the front desk clerk went and assigned a different arrangement but that still didn't work as she said someone would have to sleep on the couch. Finally she found what we had originally desired, a two bedroom unit upstairs and a two bedroom unit downstairs. We were told they don't adjoin but that wasn't important anymore.

We enjoyed our stay at The Winds Resort Beach Club. The rooms are clean and updated. The breakfast is included in the package, and also free bikes to ride with the family. The location is perfect, easy to drive to any place. The indoor pool was great on chili days. Very friendly staff and great attention. Adelaida, our housekeeper was amazing. We surely will return for more fun. Check Groupon for deals on this resort.

LOVED THIS RESORT! My husband & I discovered this wonderful hidden treasure just last weekend. We enjoyed every hour relaxing in our Clean & Pretty oceanfront room, beautiful beach area, friendly office staff, delicious. Breakfast & many amenities given to visitor's. Excited to. Go back in. April!

Amazing spot for us. We had 3 small children with us (3 and under) and The Winds Resort offered everything we needed. The breakfast is spectacular made fresh and the dining hall is so clean. The staff is so sweet. The beach access and location is perfect for small children (easy shallow steps) and sweet quiet area. We will be back and tell our friends in charlotte of this place.

This was a great place to relax and enjoy a weekend at the beach. The rooms were super clean. There were bikes to ride around. The breakfast buffet was great. Pool and hot tub were nice. Then the long walks on the beautiful beach.

This is our first night here the Mariners building at the Winds. The room has two full beds and is very small. There is a wet bar, bath vanity and shower tub. The room is very clean and inviting in spite of the size. It is well decorated and appears to be freshly painted. All of the appliances work and the space is utilized very efficiently. It is fine for two people but no more. The landscaping is very nice and at night the gardens and walkways are beautifully lit and charming. There is no view of the beach from this building, as it is on the second street back from Ocean Drive. The beds are clean and comfortable. However, the neighbors can be heard through the walls. So far, the staff has been great. I will review an oceanfront room tomorrow. Overall, we would stay here again.

We just love this place. Hidden in a quiet place on Ocean Isle beach meant for relaxing by and on the beach. They have an indoor pool and whirlpools to unwind. Wake up to an included full hot breakfast. The staff is very accommodating and attentive to your needs. It's an unique experience.

Great deal for the money. The rooms were nice with only some minor cosmetic things needing fixing (though it looked like they were working through them in the off-season). Offers a great breakfast — not the powdered eggs and other cheap stuff you get at some places. There were a bunch of amenities and just a very great job done on landscaping that made this feel very tropical.

Excellent location for a beachfront hotel. The staff was kind, helpful, and made wonderful recommendations. Numerous amenities including, free hot breakfast every morning, free Wi-Fi, indoor and outdoor pool and hot tub, gym, outdoor sport recreation, and bike rentals. Pool and sounding areas is absolutely adorable! The suite was was decorated very cute. It had rocking chairs right in front of the our suite, along with cute little clothes lines to hang your beach towels /swim suit. We will be visiting again!

Great family owned hotel right on the ocean front. Awesome rooms with beach views, plus pool, hot tub, poolside bar. They also have two other pools one block off the beach. Very kid friendly, family oriented place run with TLC and super nice staff.

Beautiful gardens, but tons and tons of stairs to get to your quarters. The Tiki Bar closes at 8:00. There's no restaurants you can walk to. You have to drive. Pleasant staff. Small bathrooms with very little space to put your stuff. The bedroom area is nice and Airy with Beach colors. One of our dresser drawers did not work.

Great place to vacation. Have been here 3 years in a row. Relax and feel the ocean breeze. Look forward to seeing Kim and Lorna every year at the Thirsty Tiki.

Room is small but comfortable and was clean. Staff at front desk left a lot to be desired. Breakfast was plentiful and hot. Good selection of breakfast foods. OK place just nothing special.

My Mom and I come here every August for a trip for just us. Our Mom and daughter trip is always the best and The Winds is the only place we have gone to for at least 8 years. The staff are so friendly. Our bartenders Kim and Lorna at the Thirsty Tiki always remember us and are so fun. Drinks are fantastic, good breakfast, perfect views. The rooms are always nice, clean, comfortable and have everything you need. This year was especially cool with the Eclipse party by the pool. We've already booked out trip for next year, as usual we'll be back!

Nice, low key resort. Rooms are well kept and the staff is friendly. We have stayed here twice and will continue to return to this resort.

The room was nice. My bed was loud and noisy every time I sat on it. The microwave was disgusting. I left a note for the house keeper and they fixed the microwave. Other than that everything was walking distance. Breakfast was great every morning. Me and mom had a great time.

Location is amazing, it brings you close to nature by being right on the beach but also by experiencing the incredible wins and views of the ocean from a pie on the wooden walkways going from room to room. The stars are incredible at night and you can walk down to the beach for a stroll in the moonlight. Every porch has a couple of rocking chairs making it so accessible to sit and enjoy the ocean view in the warmth of the night.

First day and so far it has been a pleasure. The Front desk and the tiki bar bartender have all been so gracious and amicable. The beach just breath taking, although there is so much to do outside of the resort you kind of think twice if it's worth leaving.

The Winds is a great place to stay whether it is your honeymoon or you have kids. My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and everyone was helpful and considerate. Jean with housekeeping was great and suggested some excellent restaurants. Jean was friendly and conversational. The beach is right out your door and there is a fun but laid back vibe. The Garden Room provides an outstanding breakfast every morning as well! You will be very satisfied with your choice to stay at The Winds!

My family and I have been staying at The Winds on and off for more than a decade, perhaps close to 20 years We don't necessarily come every year, as we have tried a few other places on OIB, but this is one we keep coming back to. The rooms are nice and clean, they are a bit older, but perfectly acceptable for us. The rooms are fairly small, but at all of the ocean front places I've stayed at, space is a premium. The breakfast is wonderful. The dining area does get a bit crowded, especially on weekends, so we usually try to eat breakfast early. The location is FAB — such a quiet beach in such a nice area, not a bunch of high rises piled up on each other. It's been nice to come here if we don't want to rent a condo or a house for a whole week, but just want to escape. One of my favorite features of staying here is the rocking chairs provided for each room on the deck. We really love coming here and will keep coming back. We also like the hot tubs and the beach bar in season. Highly recommend for a quiet getaway.

We called and asked for ocean front room last minute and we were told there was one suite available so we booked. Upon arrival we were being placed second row. I only gave 2 stars because we did eventually get a refund even though the blame was placed on us and they took no responsibility. We drove 8 hours with two babies then had to find another place which was another 45 minute drive. Make sure to verify your room in the confirmation so this doesn't happen to you. Also while we were waiting I noticed the pool area was less kid friendly and more of a party with lots of people doing shots and such so it probably would not have been a good fit for us anyway.

Great place to stay at oib. We go at least twice each Summer. It suits us as a pleasant place with many amenities from free bike rentals to the 3 pools and 2 hot tubs. The employees are very cordial. Lorna has been a long time employee who makes great drinks at outside tiki bar. The owner/manager is Garrison and is certainly attentive to the guests. He has always taken care of us and has shown us that he will go the extra mile to ensure our stays are enjoyable. They supply all bed linens and even beach towels. Other accom's: flat screen tv's, clean rooms, private decks (certain rooms), scenic landscaping… We also like the food menu. Meat lover pizza is awesome and they have free b-fast buffet each morn.

Our entire family have stayed here for the past 10 years. Every year has been fantastic. The rooms are clean and nice and the personnel have been nothing but great. Already made our reservations for next year.

I attend a wedding there and I really enjoyed being there. Very relaxing atmosphere and safe place.

Stayed at the Resort with some of my golf buddies over a weekend. We all were impressed with every aspect of our stay. The staff was friendly, free breakfast, and nice spots to hang out and have a drink. The rooms were nothing fancy, but were clean and up to date. I'll call here first for a room from now on!

This place was not as advertised at all. There are no signs around the place to tell you where the damn rooms are so you wonder around with your luggage forever trying to find a room. We asked for ocean view room and we got ground floor with view of bushes. There are too many people around and the only way you'll see the ocean and beach is if you have a top floor room or make the long walk out there to it. It said that there is tons to do within walking distance, there isn't, plus there is very little parking. VERY VERY disappointed. Never coming back and never recommending this place to anyone.

My family has been going here since before I was born. It is a great location, run by wonderful people and has a personal touch.

Not sure where bad reviews come from. Hotel is very very clean and well maintained. No mold or smells anywhere throughout grounds. Resort features. 3 pools one of which is indoor Relaxing patio area Complementary breakfast Friendly staff Stayed in family room that was roomy but comfortable at same time Ample parking and short walk from room to vehicles Only complaint would be that I couldn't stay longer.

Never go here. Overpriced, Out dated and has a odor. They recently changed there polices and did not let guests know. The best thing was the DJ and the breakfast. I will never go back the management is rude and talks badly about any guests that cancels because of there recent shark bite in there area.

Great weekend at the Winds. Truly a unique resort! Loved the pool, the landscaping, the shuffleboard, the bikes (free to use), the breakfast and so much more. The staff was also so friendly and helpful.

We stayed here with another family in a two bedroom unit in June. There were 8 of us crammed into there but it was still comfy and nice to have two full bathrooms. The unit was clean, cute and everything was functional. There is a nice sitting area just outside of each unit (with two chairs and a small table) and some room to leave beach toys/coolers and hang towels, which is really nice! Although the resort is not overly modern, everything was in pretty good shape and nicely painted and maintained. There are several small pools (one at the beach and two across the street, one which is inside in case of bad weather), a bar at the main pool (with food), and even a volleyball net in one of the pools. The outdoor ping-pong table and "gaming" area could use some work and needs to be treated/sprayed for bugs and mosquitoes. It was unusable as is. The breakfast was decent, nothing special, and the breakfast area was far to small and cramped to accomodate everyone. Luckily there is some outdoor seating clost by at the pool area, so we got our food and ate there. Overall, a pretty nice little resort. It could use some modernization and expanded breakfast area, but it's well maintained and beachy/cute. Pros: Relatively clean and well maintained, great location, nice beach-side pool and bar area. Two bedroom/two bath units a really nice for a larger family or multiple families.

My wife and I spent another 4 days at The Winds in September and, as usual, this place is perfect for us. She and I have stayed here many times over the last 20 years and it's the only resort we would ever stay in at Ocean Isle Beach. The breakfast food is great and the kitchen/dining staff are always so friendly and attentive. The pool area and Tiki Bar are great places to relax. Our rooms have always been super clean and housekeeping is extremely effecient. The beach area has recently been renourished since our last stay there in late winter and it's awesome. We tell people all the time that The Winds is THE place to stay in Ocean Isle. We plan a trip back as soon as possible.

Can't beat it for off season golf, about $100/day including breakfast. We come here in October for some great golf, cool weather and friendship with guys we haven't seen for a while. Staff is GREAT, accommodations are good (for a sandy beach hotel) and right on the beach. Love to hear the waves at night in our room! Breakfast is good and opens early! We've been coming here for over 10 years, will continue.

Their online reservation system is horrible. It deleted my children from my reservation and added my reservation for the date I made the reservation not the date I selected. Even though I made my reservation at almost midnight, the staff was unwilling to refund my money or give me a credit when I called the explain the error. We have been to the hotel and although it's in a charming location and we'd planned to renew our vows here, I will not give them any further business due to the extreme poor handling of the botched reservation. The hotel's manager, Garrison, actually told me to "act like an adult" when I asked him nicely to work with me. I was completely demeaned when I asked them to help me fix the problem. All this hotel cares about is getting your money.

My husband I got married at The Winds on May 18, 2014, and everything was supremely beautiful! Mel and Darlene helped us plan, order and coordinate from afar, and every last detail was just as we wanted. Our guests enjoyed their accommodations, the beach wasn't crowded, there were plenty of amenities in the area and the weather was outstanding. I've seen a lot of reviews with complaints about the dehumidifiers. There's no question that they aren't ideal, but you're 50 yards from the ocean. We opened the windows and focused on that incredible view and the sound of the waves crashing. Beautiful! The resort could use some updating, but we weren't bothered by it at all. Our vacation wasn't about the room since we didn't plan to stay in it too often. We'll definitely be back.
