From the second we entered the hotel everyone was very friendly and very helpful. We had a great room, it was fine with a king size bed very comfortable too. I couldn’t complain about anything. The shower was great, we had plenty of hot water too. I definitely would come back to this hotel again. Also we parked about 200 feet from the hotel in a closed parking lot. We also get a free breakfast tomorrow. I recommend this hotel to everyone!

If you can rate a hotel a zero that is what the Marcel resonates. A 10 story or more hotel with very limited bell men (in NYC BTW) so that leaves families taking their own belongings to their room. So lets talk about "the room". A "closet" for a mere $500.00 + an evening. Uneven floors, dirty, sinks that clog up instantly. Nice neighborhood with many other hotels. From a person that travels significantly, any other venue you choose would better. A complete rip off. Embarrassing and my fault for not vetting the venue more.

I had a nice time at the hotel. There was a problem with the air conditioning the day I arrived, but it was fixed on the same day. The rooms are rather small (Manhattan…) but the real problem was planning — the table was so close to the bed that I could not put the chair by it and work. The staff is extremely nice and friendly. There is a rooftop lounge, where one can have breakfast (for an additional fee) or have coffee (complementary, throughout the day) and relax with a book and a view of the city.

It was about what I expected for the price. Rooms were tidy and well kept, but beware they're definitely on the smaller end! Also, the shower in our room didn't have the curtain reaching the lip of the molding, so whenever you take a shower water would splash out everywhere, including the sink cabinet which showed significant signs of water damage. The location was convenient as it was a few blocks from the closest subway. Another annoyance we had was on the last day, the elevator made a horrifically loud noise every time it passed the 5th floor. Our room was located right on the back side of the elevator and this noise started at around 6am and we lost sleep because of it. Other than that, not a bad place to stay.

You get what you pay for. Give credit where credit is due, this hotel is inexpensive and in a great location. However, I had reserved a room with a queen bed. When we checked in we were told they had "upgraded" us (their words) to a room with two double beds. I don't know in which alternate universe one "upgrades" to a smaller bed but in my world this is a called a "downgrade". One of the bedside lamps was broken as was the bathroom vent. The sink was very slow draining, almost clogged. The beds and pillows were uncomfortable and lumpy. Even the floor was lumpy and uneven, and even managed a loud squeaking noise (in our room) everytime someone passed in the hallway. All in all not a terrible experience but certainly didn't live up to the other reviews.

Modern Hotel, small, renovated and clean. Reasonable prices for what is NY. A good option if you do sightseeing in this city.

I am very happy with my time at the hotel Marcel. Five days I was treated friendly and helpful by the staff. My room was adequately sized, and I found the décor tastefully both as practical. It was always well cleaned. I liked the room on the 10th floor where you could have breakfast, but also got free tea, coffee, and water. The roof terrace was great — a beautiful view of the city. I will certainly visit this hotel again.

Clarísimas the rooms in the middle of Winter New Yorker, they exceeded the 300 dollars two nights. We were given a room with a view to the air drawer of the building, the bathroom was with a crude nylon curtain and some refrigerator products, expired. We slept dressed for fear that the bed was not clean. They charge $12 dollars for a breakfast consisting of coffee, croissant and hard boiled egg. If you haven't improved it would be the last place to stay. One thing is the rooms when you book over the Internet and a very different one when you get there. Care!

We stayed here for 5 days. The location is great. The room was well appointed but very very small. There is a desk which you need to sit on the end of the bed to use. My wife slept on the far side and the first two nights she kept stumbling into the desk in the middle of the night. The bathroom was also well appointed but also very small. I realize that for the location, you can't expect a lot of space, but at the price point and star level, I expect to at least be able to comfortably walk around the bed! That said, the staff and front desk we're fantastic — almost enough to bring my review up to 5 stars. Unfortunately, there are few amenities in the hotel. There is a business center and a lounge, with terrace on the 10th floor and another lounge in the lobby. No fitness center or pool. (It must be said that other similar hotels we've stayed at in Manhattan have tiny pools that almost shouldn't count! ) There is, theoretically, free coffee in the upstairs lounge but it was out of order every time I tried to use it. Also, there is a breakfast buffet for $15, but we never used it. There are way better options for $15 in this part of Manhattan. Overall we we're happy with the hotel and would consider staying there again — mainly because all of the staff were awesome.

From the moment we arrived Scott and Caroline made us feel truly welcome and offered us great tips about the city — even upgraded our room without asking! The hotel itself was spotless, beautifully decorated, and smelled great as well. We took advantage of the 10th floor lounge and the free coffee to fuel out adventures. The location is just perfect as well with easy access to all the areas of the city we wanted to explore. The neighborhood around the hotel had a great vibe with plenty of restaurants and cafes, We had a great experience and would definitely recommend the Marcel, we will be back!

Hotel is nice for the price. Rooms are small but it's NYC so… to be expected. Staff is helpful, and it's clean. Can't ask for much more than that *cough, no gym, cough.

Very good hotel in New York, well located, clean and not very noisy. Perhaps what makes the most noise is like some kind of parking that is in front of it. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Wonderful staff here that were willing to go above and beyond what I would expect. Very polite and welcoming. The room itself was in perfect condition and very clean. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud. We didn't use the TV, so I can't say what the cable was like. They also have a rooftop patio that had a good view. I'll be coming back here again for sure!

Not sure if I just caught this at the right time or what but we got in here for 160 bucks. So cheap for NYC and the hotel was great. Rooms weren't huge but big enough and comfy bed. Their Tv's need to be upgraded to a bigger size but that's nit picking. Well worth the money and close to time square.

After I had booked our stay through Hotwire I was worried we would be staying in a Standard Room. I called and the manager upgraded our stay at no additional fee. Our room had a fantastic view and was just the right size! They even gave us an engagement gift! Thank you to the staff for working on the holiday! Thank you to the manager for upgrading us. This was my second stay here. Lovely boutique hotel at a great location. The complimentary coffee/tea facility at the rooftop lounge is a great little feature. Will definitely stay here again.

Quite the average hotel Pros: friendly service and comfortable bed Cons: maintenance of the infrastructure is lacking, no coffee machine in the rooms, expensive Wi-Fi. Overall: good hotel (does the job) but should offer more amenities for that price (120$ per night)

The hotel is in a good location, close enough to the Green metro line. Our room was small but clean and with a functional bathroom. The staff is courteous and professional. The only note I can make is related to Wi-Fi to pay and quite expensive. Whereas in NY it is free even in the subway they should reduce at least the price. Still it remains a good Hotel. Thanks to Mohamed and Scott for the courtesy shown during our stay.

Good location, nice staff, comfy beds, small rooms (but fine for the price). Owner should invest in some softer towels and better toilet paper.

For the price, the water shouldn't have had a 15 minute warm-up time, the drawers should have stayed closed, the umbrella shouldn't have been missing from the room, the street noise should have been quieter, etc. Everything was very well kept and comfortable though.

Nice hotel that is well located. The staff were very friendly and efficient. They let me keep my bags at the hotel as my flight was late at night. Overall a pleasant experience.

I travel to New York on a regular basis for Business and leisure, and stayed here for the first time at the end of August. The hotel is close to the transit system, clean and well kept rooms, polished and polite staff, a romantic view of the city from the roof top and lots of great restaurants surround the area.

I stayed at the Marcel over this summer and it was a fantastic experience. From its prime location with a beautiful rooftop view, amazing rooms and fantastic staff I look forward to staying here again. Mike. Well hes the man! He knew everything about the city and was extremely helpful, he even set up a luxurious SUV ride for me to get back to airport. So look for him when you check in!

Terrace with view of the Empire State Building Nice. Good location.
The least:
Deceptive Discount (-51% announced on Booking when it was the standard price). Breakfast at $18 excl. VAT for a simple buffet. Tried to incorrectly charge us a mini-fridge drink at the check-out. Disastrous (noisy and thermostat impossible to adjust). No sound insulation (single glazing) on an avenue with a lot of traffic. Very slow hot water to come. Bed (much) too soft. (very) Slow lifts.

Clean rooms and really nice staff. Rooms was cozy (small) but perfect for my trip. Wish the Wi-Fi or breakfast was complimentary.

Great location if you are working at NYU Medical/Dental schools. It's a very nice 4-star boutique hotel with nice accommodations and comfy beds, rooftop terrace and coffee lounge, friendly staff. I will certainly return when working at NYU Medical Center again.

I scored a room for $130 with taxes and fees included and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of space the room had to it. Two double beds and enough room to be able to move around without hassle. The great quality soaps and shower were both fantastic after a searing hot day walking around Manhattan. Everyone on staff I spoke to was very polite and helpful. Their coffee/tea setup is amazing and its all-day access for free. The rooftop seating area was lovely, I'm disappointed it wasn't open later into the evening though so we could enjoy it longer. They have ashtrays up there too which is a huge deal to me as a smoker, because most rooftop bars I've been to won't let you smoke.

Worst hotel ever. Showers and sinks back up, absolutely disgusting. This is truly a polished turd. AC didn't work in the second room, got so hot I could barely sleep. Manager is a complete moron, insisted at MIDNIGHT that they come try to look at the AC to fix it rather than give me another room. I wanted 100% refund manager said "I won't let you blackmail us" LOL what a punk. I went ahead and ended our short relationship by cussing him out. The arrogance was more than I could handle! Bottom line — STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!

Convenient for travel. The room is small but not negatively affected the stay. From the panoramic terrace you can see the Empire well. Since we were on honeymoon we were made to find a bottle of champagne and two goblets in the room as welcome.

Great place for a quick trip. Nice and friendly staff. Breakfast is extra, coffee, however, is free. The Roof is the highlight of the hotel with great views of the Empire State Building … Unfortunately, no free Wifi … It is recommended that really never sleeps for the city …

Fairly affordable, amazing atmosphere. Rooms are beautifully decorated, private bath (a luxury for sure, in Manhattan) the 'extras' were abaurdly priced… $7 for a bottle of water? I guess that'd be my only complaint. Staff was very accommodating and helpful, very friendly and welcoming.

We have just arrived for what we had hoped would be a great 4 night stay but words cannot express my disappointment. From having to pay for Wi-Fi (a bugbear of mine) to our tiny 10ftx10ft room with no nice touches — robes, extra pillows, even glasses and coffee/tea making facilities — this hotel falls far far short of what I would expect for its price and star rating.

My fiance and I made reservations for the Amsterdam in Times Square. About 15 minutes before check-in, I received a phone call from the hotel telling me that they had overbooked the night before and that I had been transferred to the Marcel at Gramercy. Absolutely unacceptable. All of our plans and reservations were in Times Square, which is why we selected the Amsterdam. Had I wanted to stay in Gramercy Park, I would have selected the Marcel. Upon arrival, we were "upgraded" to a king room facing the street. We had expected to have beautiful view of the city. Instead, we got an ugly view of some alley and a terrible view of street traffic and trash. We were also given complementary "breakfast" for both mornings. Croissants and fruit are hardly a breakfast. More like a snack to tide us over until we could get a proper meal. Definitely not worth the $12.95 they were charging other guests. The absolute inconvenience of being moved was in the transportation we had to pay for. We now how to get ourselves from Gramercy Park to Times Square on OUR dime and then back again to our sad little room the size of a postage stamp. I will say, however, the room was clean. Also, it's 2016. Free Wi-Fi, particularly in a self proclaimed "4-Star Property" should be included. But no. We were charged $10 per device for a 24 hour period. I'm not sure who rates hotels, but this most certainly was not a 4 — Star property.

Room is so small, no Wi-Fi, no chair to sit in, the carpet had a dust ring around the edge where the molding is like no one ever vacuumed. Wall paper is coming off, before check in I had choices of 1 or 2 beds, upper or lower floor, bigger or smaller room, or a nice view. I chose nice view out of all the choices. I got a 3rd floor rm overlooking a parking garage with a queen size bed so low you Can trip over it. The price was reasonable in a decent location. If you Are out all day and night and just looking for a bed to crash in, it will do. Btw they use a regular antenna for TV reception.

I would be giving the Marcel a 5/5, but no free Wi-Fi in 2016 is a deal breaker for me. The rest of the visit was rather pleasant. Upon arrival I was given up upgrade from my queen room to a king free of charge. There is no hotel parking but they are affiliated with a nearby garage for a reduced rate. The staff and bellhop were kind and attentive as well. My upgraded room was rather large with a sizable bathroom, a couch, and a desk with a lot of spare room. I daresay it was spacious. To be fair, there is free Internet in the hotel visitor lounge, but that is only available until 10pm. All in all, I would recommend the hotel, but only if having to pay for Internet does not bother you.

Location is great for trips out to the NYC office. Room sizes vary quite a bit. Staff is polite. Rooms were clean. Didn't spend too much time there doing much other than sleep.

Location is great. Away from all the crowds. The rooms are very small but nice. Beds are super comfotable. There's an outdoor roof terrace that's really cool. Staff is great. I would recommend staying at this hotel.

Rooms are small but adequate. Great place to visit the city and some great bars and places locally. No Wi-Fi in rooms without 10 buck surcharge. Staff very friendly. Breakfast is continental but not worth $15. Skip and eat in countless places nearby. This is worth the money and I can recommend it as a good place. There is no hotel bar but lounge has free coffee and has great views of city. They will deliver ice to your room. Off licence round the corner if you need gin and tonics.

Easy parking! Garage is in front of hotel and it is parked for you. Hotel employees open the front door for you as much as possible. The lobby is gorgeous. The hallways remind me of luxury apartments in Virginia. The room was beautiful and clean. I love the Zebra accents. The shower has 2 shower heads that give you a waterfall feeling when you shower. It was great. The rooftop terrace has the most amazing view of the city and the Empire State building and I recommend you visit the rooftop at night cause the city is so lit up and stunning. The staff was also very accommodating and accessible when needed. The front desk even randomly called up to my room to check on me and also sent me a personal email with the managers info to make sure that I was enjoying my stay and ensure me that if I needed anything they are there for me. I felt like a celebrity. I will NEVER stay in NY at another hotel. Marcel at the Gramercy has my heart and I thank them for an amazing birthday trip. Xoxo!

Excellent hotel with good costumer service! Recently we had the pleasure of staying at The Marcel hotel. The rooms are modern, clean, and competitively priced. Most important to mention though, is the professionalism of the staff – all of them. And how nice they are to everyone. I will certainly be back, and am highly recommending The Marcel to my friends and business associates.

I would say this hotel was ok but not spectacular. We had a room on the second floor which to my mind was a little on the small side. It was noisy but I think you can expect this from New York. Upon arrival we were greeted by a basket of nibbles and drinks. We looked at the price list and found it prohibitive. $7 for 750 ml of Evian, $5 for a Kitkat is taking liberties. I expect items such as ironing board and wardrobe to be standard fixtures in a hotel room but clearly I am mistaken. The lack of free Wi-Fi in the room is disgraceful. This is the 21st century, I shouldn't be expected to pay $10 a day (per device) for Wi-Fi in my room. There is complimentary Wi-Fi up on the 10th floor but on 3 out of the 10 days I was here, it was not working. Surprise, surprise the $10 Wi-Fi had no such issues. I might be being pedantic but I expect a power shower in the bathroom in a hotel of this standard. The shower there was a bit weak. The lack of available power outlets was annoying. The bed was a little on the short side. I am only 5"3 and noticed this. Not changing the towels and bed linen every day unless you leave a card on the bed and towels on the floor is substandard. The continental breakfast for $12.95 plus tax did not interest me at all. I was further out off eating anything that may have been on offer when I noticed ants (more than a few) crawling around the fruit basket.

Expect to share your room with a mouse, then be charged for it. Do not stay at The Marcel at Gramercy unless you want to pay $200/night for the following to happen to you: 1. Find a mouse in your room 2. Find front desk staff reluctant to dispose of the mouse you caught in your room so that you have to dispose of it yourself 3. Ask for two pre-dawn wake up calls so that you can catch your early morning flight, but receive neither these calls nor a knock on your room's door so that you end up missing your flight 4. Be checked out by a front desk person who does not ask how your stay was or make eye contact with you but instead rudely dismisses you as soon as she sees that your stay was already paid for 5. Be charged $47 on your credit card after you've checked out (for for an umbrella you never borrowed from the front desk and for the "complimentary" beer the front desk gave you as an apology for the mouse) 6. Be promised a call back from a manager by a certain time to address your complaint about the incorrect charges, then not receive that call until half an hour after the promised time, only to discover that she is the weekend manager and has no authority to address all of your complaints 7. Schedule a specific time to speak to a higher-up manager, then discover that this manager, too, fails to call you back at the promised time because he did not receive your clear note that you live in a different time zone 8.

Spent a week at the hotel and had no complaints. Booked a standard room which was smaller than we had hoped for but the staff arranged a transfer to a larger room without any fuss or bother. Very clean with maid service daily. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful, nothing was too much for them. The location was ideal for seeing all the sights in New York. All in all an excellent stay and I would happily recommend this hotel.

Class Hotel, super location, very nice staff. Room and bathroom comfortable, tip top. At night, however, loud noise in the room, ear plugs not forget ;-).

Very nice, modernized mid-grade boutique hotel. Rooftop deck off the room where they serve breakfast has a fantastic view of the Empire State Building.

We stayed 4 nights here in September. Was well priced for our budget and the location was great for us. The staff were all super helpful and very friendly. The rooms aren't big by any stretch but they're very comfortable and were clean. We had a room that faced an internal area, so was minimal light coming into the room which meant it was a quiet room. The only downside for us was the charge for the Wi-Fi and the free Wi-Fi wasn't working our first few days. All in all we had a great time here and I'd happily stay again.

Talk to Kathy at the front desk she will hook you up with the best deals. They always get me the best prices. The bellman (I believe his name is Danny) was really accommodating. He helped with all our luggage and he was really sweet to my wife and two daughters. Rooms were really clean. NO complaints, honestly.

Small and uncomfortable bathroom, location is close enough to the main attractions but a bit of a walk (3 blocks) from the first metro stop.
Despite being well cared for as furniture also sins in regards to the location directly on the street and therefore noisy rooms!
