Stayed at a beautiful home right on the ski slopes. Just beautiful. Did not use the lodge. Off season it was pretty quiet. A nice spot to get away.

Great resort. Was there over the weekend for the 2018 cross country snowmobile race. Cabin was clean and in great condition. Slopes were awesome for sleds, not sure about skiing tho.

Timberline is a beautiful mountain with very long trails, including the easier trails to make them more challenging and fun. It was a nice mix of skiing the black diamond trails and the lengthy green and blue trails for more variation. Mountain trails were also not crowded and lift lines were not long. Would definitely recommend this ski resort to a friend! Everyone was very pleasant, friendly, and helpful.

The accommodations and facilities were fair. It was my first time at a ski resort but it was not bad. The rentals we got seemed to be well maintained and up to date so I didn't feel a lack of quality. The actual ski resort and slopes were fantastic. Had a great time skiing although no triple black diamonds if you care about that. Really loved skiing there and the whole operation and staff ran smoothly. Everyone seemed well trained and friendly. My only complaint was that the food is very basic and leaves much to be desired including the prices. The cafeteria also seemed a bit messy and crowded which was not relaxing after a long day on the slopes. The bar was great though and had a decent selection. Overall a great time and would return.

Nice place to learn skiing or snowboarding. Stay is friendly and it's not as packed as other places. If you're a learner it's better to go to a cheaper place. Especially if you are going to end up staying on the bunny Hill all day. The teachers here are super helpful too.

This place is just so poorly managed, it took us over 1 and half hours from buying our tickets and getting our rentals. The computers at the ticket office must be the same old computers they've had since the 1990s. I had to show a screen shot on my phone for them to honor their advertised discount on their own web site. And at the rental area, there was 1 person manning the boots and 2 people handling the ski/board rentals during their busy 9-10am rush. I enrolled my 4 year old into their children's program but that was under staffed as well. She ended up quitting half way into the 5 hour program. Oh well, there goes $140. Just tragically unprofessional. The trails were pretty good. I did enjoy their salamander along with their new twister trail. But the stress one has to endure to getting past the ticketing and rental makes it not worth coming here. Next time I'm skipping this place and driving on over to Canaan.

Great place to work on skill and get ready for Skiing out west. Rooms are comfortable, beds are comfortable, gill is nice. Come enjoy Timberline with Friends and Family.

Good variety of slopes for all skill levels! I really appreciate the college discount as well, which makes skiing here much more affordable for students. Overall I had a great time here, and would definitely recommend them! The staff is also very helpful, polite, and receptive.

Great snow, cheap lodge food but fast and oh so warm and good! value! the slopes are fantastic and there was rarely a line so even though lifts are old and seemingly slow you get tons of great snow and steep consistent slopes.

In the past several years my experiences with the resort and Timbers Pub have gotten progressively worse. It's a great mountain but there is always either a lift broken, snow guns running on nearly all of the trails, and bad attitudes with all of the lift attendants. Timber's Pub is even worse. The bartenders are incredibly slow and generally act like they are bothered by your presence. This past weekend it was too cold to do more than a few runs between warmups inside. Tried to have lunch at the bar on the second pass and they told me they weren't serving food until 4 but I could eat at the cafeteria downstairs. Everything there looked like it had been under the heat lamp since 7am. So we came back at 4:30 and they said they decided to not serve food since the slopes were closing at 6. You can't win with this place. They have no idea how to provide good service and ultimately make a little money. After 15 years, this might have been my last trip there. I recommend going to Snowshoe instead.

Stayed at 711 Mountainside Road, beautiful view. Hot tub was amazing. Great place for family or a group of friends. Hit the slopes, lots of different options with all of the levels of experience. Board/shoe rental places in town were much cheaper than the resort offered. This was my first snowboarding experience but I highly recommend and would come back again.

Beautiful area, getting married there next summer. Many outdoor activities around there to do, haven't stayed at the resort.

Simple no frills ski resort. Great for families, and college students alike. Smaller hotel available and bunk houses for those on a budget. Ski trails are steeper than some other Mid-Atlantic resorts and the views of the Tygart valley are great as well. Davis and Thomas are two small towns that are a quick and worthwhile drive.

It was great but they only had one slope open and that was the bunny hill but I still had fun.

The rooms are nice and warm, the food isn't too bad, and the slopes are very fun.

In the middle of nowhere but I loved that fact. Very clean and modern.

The food is bad and they are way understaffed but if going for the day and want to go skiing they have some good trails.

It has been amazing. The cabin we are staying in has an amazing view and is secluded. It is perfect.

A review for the lift during NO SNOW: We were there last October during peak leaf season. WOW! This was a great deal for an amazing experience. Plan a trip to see the Autumn colors in Canaan — you won't be disappointed. This lift ride was the highlight of the week!

I visit this area about once a year because of how beautiful the mountains are, each one is special.

Absolutely horrible company, let me tell you why. Also note, we payed in full in advance. Day one of our vacation was a Thursday. Check in at 3pm. We arrive to find that our 8 bedroom that sleeps 24 had a broken well. Zero water in the entire home. We had 20 guests arriving that night and the next morning to celebrate a huge birthday party for my grandfather. We called the emergency number and they said they would send a plumber. Nope, they sent an HVAC guy who immediately said he couldn't help. (meanwhile, the neighbors were out of town so these awful unprofessional people unlocked the HOME of NON RENTAL PROPERTY to let us use their bathroom. We were careful and clean but I would be livid if this company let strangers into my home. The second house we stayed in was also for sale and had been staged. ) They found us a small house with 4 beds to sleep in that night by 9pm. I had driven 13 hours with a toddler. We were exhausted. Additionally, we had already filled both refrigerators with food and our luggage. So we had to unpack and then put it all in the smaller house so we could make dinner. The food was perishable. At this point, Timberlines complete unhelpfulness told us our only option was to take the small 4 bedroom house or go home. This house couldn't support 4 cars, let alone the 13 that were coming. They told us they had NO homes that had enough space for us. The next morning we go to the rental office 9am, when they open.

Pretty good variety of trails open even though it was like 50 degrees Fahrenheit outside. The food from the lodge was also surprisingly cheap! Stay away when they're blowing snow. The machines make it impossible to see as you're coming down the runs and you end up covered in ice very quickly.

The main lodge is pretty run down and the cafeteria wasn't appealing at all. But, it's a ski place so it gets a minimum of three stars simply because I love to ski. The ski school did a great job with my daughter. If there were a separate rating for that I'd give it a 4 or 5 star rating. She enrolled in the all day mountain academy and her instructor was patient with her without giving her easy excuses to avoid things that were tricky or hard for her to learn (such as getting up when you fall down).

Great service and slopes! Conditions always seem to be enjoyable. However the prices are double a nearby resort, Canaan Valley, which is an equally nice if not better resort. Timberline does have street cred though, as it is an ancient place. The buildings and lifts are somewhat outdated.

Just went to run with my xc team. Pretty flat and simple, but we only ran on roads. Wish there was more trails.

Great place. A lot less to do in the summer unfortunately, but the employees are still plenty helpful.

I have only been in the mountain, not in the hotel. The mountain is awesome! Great slopes for many different levels of expertise. I totally recommend it! Also, it is much cheaper than other ski resorts in the region.

Went to the restaurant for dinner and drinks and found the food was not very good at all. Burgers are all precooked and heated up, French fries soggy. Staff was very nice and friendly though.

Really great resort, had an antique charm. On this day we decided to go snowboarding. Upon entry to the rental shop we were greeted by a friendly staff member who was a character from the movie lords of dogtown. Slopes were nice and icy. The only reason for four stars is due to the staff members working the lifts were not friendly. Overall it was overpriced for the location and time of day. Would recommend for a friend, but will stick to White Tail or Canaan for the money.

Lodging has been awesome, house right on the slopes. The past two years the weather has been amazing for skiing the week of President's Day. We wish there were more food options like Snowshoe.

This is a true hidden gem! Such a beautiful mountain, great skiing and no lines to wait in. I never worry about my family as all lifts run down to the main lodge. The ski school is very well run for the little ones and they offer lessons for the big guys too!

Staff was extremely helpful and nice. The resort is old so the faculty is a bit small in regards to restrooms, dining, and the shop. Food was okay, the kind of food you'd find in your middle school cafeteria. The actual trails are very nice and the salamander trail is also very enjoyable. All in all, for friendly people, lots of slopes, not modernized resort, this resort is for you — I had a great time.

Great location near slopes and an easy dive to Thomas/Davis, clean and comfortable rooms. Need for service was limited but they were helpful on check-in.

Rented a slopeside cabin during New year's eve, resort is easily one of my favorites off all time.

For the money it was OK. The hallways and room smelled "damp". You can tell people hang their ski boots and poles in the room. They show there is Wi-Fi available, but I could never get an internet connection.

Have skied here more than five times. Lots of good memories. Love the Salamander slope. It is long and fun. Accommodation isn't bad either. Take lots of food and stock up as no grocery stores near by.

Been here twice, both times the lift lines for their two very slow, very old triples have been thirty to forty five minutes. We skiied the half day pass and got about 6 runs down hill in the four hours our forty five dollar passes were good for. A little bit ridiculous. They ran out of rental skis before we got there so my wife couldn't join us. The lift lines for both lifts are steep descents so I had to borrow a pole from a member in my group to keep from sliding down as the lines were too narrow to side step or snowplow. The lift attendants stopped the lift every time someone dropped a pole or ski glove and it usually took about 5 minutes to start it again. Not acceptable when there is a 45 minute lift line. There is no lift that only services black and blue so people who can't load are slowing down both the main lifts. The only reason I gave two stars instead of one was because they actually do have some nice steep longer black and double black runs that I enjoyed, though with such a long lift line we ended up purposefully trying to avoid the faster runs just to delay getting back in line. Some slopes were good, but I chose a black Diamond for my last run. They had left the snow guns on and formed massive frozen whales the entire way down without grooming. Trail should have been closed. It was unskiable. Their famous salamander is so flat you actually have to push for 30 or 40 yards in the middle so that's not much fun. We went to canaan the next day and had a blast.

With the new Corridor H Highway, it's made access to my favorite ski resort now just 3 hrs from DC. Boasting an average annual snowfall of 180-200in of snow, 40 trails, and the the best off piste skiing south of Vermont, Timberline is definitely the place to go to for skiing/snowboarding! Sure the lifts are slow, and the drive is a little far, but its advantages exceed its shortcomings by far! The lift ticket rates are reasonable, the cafeteria food is good, and the nearby towns of Davis and Thomas, WV boast some great restaurants (Hellbenders Burritos) and fun nightlife (Blackwater Brew Pub) in a very welcoming ski community in WV.

The lifts open at 9:00am and stop running at 4:30pm. Took a mini vacation because of the Living Social deal we found and had an amazing time (the lodge was just at the bottom of the slopes and the lifts! ). Not too much going on at the resort or the town near by, but if you're looking for a place to ski/snowboard in peace, this is definitely it. There were more skiers than snowboarders. I would suggest you bring some snacks and beverages — the restaurant and cafeteria weren't all that great. It kept our tummies full, but didn't have much of a variety. Also, it's only a 3 hour drive from DC.

Got a great deal off of Groupon for two nights, plus all-day lift and ski rentals. Note on "ski rentals. " Bring your own board, or it's extra for snowboard rentals. Discrimination of snowboarders are still largely upon us. Great staff, easy check-in and check-out. Lifts could be faster, but trails are happily long and eventful. I had thought early morning sessions would be great, right after everything has been groomed, but the thing about grooming make everything flat. I want the super soft snow pluff.

Best skiing in the Mid-Atlantic. The most snow, the most laid-back atmosphere, and great slopes for all skill levels.

I love timberline joes Italian restaurant in davis wv just down the road was the best place ever he had a motel and restaurant, everybody in town use to go to joes the chit chat was the best ever the rooms were 27 dollars per night then joe got old and sold the place rooms went up to 80 dollars per night but I still love skiing at timberline yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

My Boy Scout troop comes here every Super Bowl Weekend and each year I hate it a little more. First of all every Boy Scout troop in the mid Atlantic seems to come here for the same reason mine does: cheap bunking. You get what you pay for. The good at the lodge cafeteria is horrendous, the bunks are a bit old. But we came here to ski right? So to begin, all the trails here are really nice, but they aren't very well maintained, depending on the weather. Many blues and blacks can be dangerously icy at times. Night skiing isn't great because no green trails are kept open and the none or ten trails that are kept open are just ice because they get so worn down throughout the day. Now let's talk about the lifts. Slowest lifts in America. Someone falls and the whole thing stops at least three times within ten minutes. Thus ad didn't more time into the already slow lifts. All in all, timberline does not understand the concept of crowd control. Do not come out here to learn how to ski.

Timberline is a study in contrasts. In the mid-Atlantic, intermediate and advanced skiers won't find better terrain. And that's where the good news ends. Everything else about Timberline is substandard to outright awful. The entire place exudes neglect. The rental equipment simply shouldn't be rented. So if you are coming for a "ski lodge" experience, this is not your destination. If you love to ski and don't mind slow lifts, Timberline cannot be beat. Stay on the slopes, enjoy the view, enjoy the challenge and avoid the lodge. And do remember, this is the Mid-Atlantic, not Utah. Weather and snow conditions are all a part of the hard core East Coast skier challenge. Be prepared for anything and you will likely experience it sooner or later.

Canaan Valley is a wonderful place to visit no matter what the season, I love it here. Unfortunately, the ski resorts, notably Timberline Four Season Resort, have seriously compromised the wondrous beauty of this valley. On my last visit skiing at Timberline, I was incredibly disturbed by the deteriorating condition of the facility. There was trash thrown along the slopes and none of the workers took the initiative to pick it up. The staff was incredibly rude to me and my young family. We took ski lessons only to have the instructor cut our lesson short and to insist on being tipped. To top it all off, my ski poles were stolen from inside the lodge! I would reconsider any vacation to Timberline this winter.
