Review of 21c Museum Hotel Kansas City 4*

They would get a much better review from me as the hotel is beautiful, the rooms are clean and spacious and the art is beautiful, however, my husband spent a good chunk of change for a suite for us for my birthday and we felt as though we were treated poorly. We went to the bar to grab a quick drink before grabbing our lyft to take us to dinner. When we got to the hostess stand, they refused to seat us! at the bar! Their excuse was that they had a lot of reservations that were going to show up that evening (note that the restaurant was probably at 40% capacity and there was only one person sitting at the bar at the time). It was quite obvious that the reservations that they had scheduled were not arriving anytime soon (at least not all of them at once, anyway). I have never been to a restaurant where the bar isn't open seating and I've certainly never been to a bar with less than 50% capacity to refuse customers. I've also NEVER stayed at a hotel which they refused to seat us at the bar for a drink. In fact, the majority of the nice hotels that we have stayed at provide a complimentary drink to those that are lodging with them for the night as a 'thank you' (we did not expect or suggest this, just a seat at the bar for 15 minutes was all we wanted). We have stayed at this hotel a handful of times and love the hotel itself. To top it off, as we were leaving the bar after being refused service, the lady an man at the check in desk asked if everything was OK. When I had told them what happened, the gentleman shrugged his shoulders and recommended that we go to the bar down the street! Not one person made any attempt to make it right. In fact, they all acted as though we no longer mattered as they had already collected our money for our evening stay. It's disappointing that our experience with the savoy grill in the hotel has left such a bad taste in our mouths that we will not be back to the hotel or the restaurant! I would rather give my money to an establishment that at least acts like they appreciate our business.
