Our first three nights were fantastic. The suites are large and clean, the staff is incredibly friendly and follows Covid-19 protocols well. The downfall came when I decided to extend our stay by one night. After the desk manager very helpfully found us a new room (as ours was booked), and allowed us to stay in our current room until the new room was clean, we moved and were pleased with another clean and spacious (though slightly smaller) suite. What the staff member neglected to tell me was that this new room was significantly more expensive, that unpleasant surprise greeted me after checkout. The next issue happened overnight, the AC stopped working sometime in the evening, I had the thermostat set to 65 and it was 75 degrees. I went to the night manager twice in the middle of the night, the first time he said the engineer was on an errand and he would send him up as soon as he returned, when he didn’t come up after 90 mins, I went back down and asked again and the manager told me the engineer had fixed the problem and I should have control. By now it was 5 am, I hadn’t slept and I had a 400 mile drive with two children ahead of me. Frustrated and tired, I tried to get some sleep but I was just too hot and uncomfortable. After the day shift came on, I tried once again, explaining my frustration of not being helped in the middle of the night and that my room was still swelteringly hot. The two staff people were courteous and kind and apologized for the “miscommunication” and thanked me for being such a kind and polite guest all week, but it still took over two hours for an engineer to come to the room and see if the AC was working — and by then we were checking out!
Part of what I am paying for when I go to a hotel is the privilege to not be hot. When you’re a woman over 35, you really appreciate the rare times you’re not sweating while sitting still. I felt robbed of comfort last night and that is not a good way to end a vacation.
