I was able to check in early which was nice. The first room had hair in it and was not clean. The upgraded me to a very nice room even though I wad willng to wait until my first room got re-cleaned. My second room had hair in the shower and dust on the ceiling. To top things off, I ALWAYS put my Do Not Disturb sign on doors at hotels. I just prefer my room untouched until I checkout. I purposely spoke with the woman at the front desk as I was seeking clean towels to replace m…y used towels so that housekeeping wouldn't have to come into my room to clean. I double checked to ensure the sign was on my door to not disturb… I returned to find that not only had my sign been turned around but they had been in my room. I'm so angry and upset about this stay. This was not a good experience at all for me and I don't feel comfortable here. And in addition to this, housekeeping turned my heat off in my room. I called the front desk and the guy there couldn't care any less. He stated that he left a note for the manager but… really? And he didn't seem to care about everything. I spoke with management the next day and she spoke so loud that all guests in the lobby could hear. She supported her decision to say that housekeeping did nothing wrong by coming into my room with my Do Not Disturb sign on my door, moving my things around and turning my heat off. She made me feel like I was wrong.

Very poor customer service. They do not take the customers concerns to heart. The manager was very rude to me when I approached her with a problem. She was very snippy with me and did not address anything I had to say without a rebuttle or argument. I was married in northfield this last weekend and many of my family and friends stayed there for several nights. Would not recommend this hotel.

The beds were very soft. The staff was fairly new and not entirely confident in their jobs. We had a couple walk in on our room while we were still in it. The hot breakfast was very good though. I'd stay there again, but hopefully they won't make as many mistakes.

Simple, but nice. Older air-conditioning units are loud but effective. The small fridge and microwave are nice for thrifty visits. The breakfast is simple, mass scrambled eggs, some form of sausage or bacon, and gravy. Bagels and toast, cereal, and yogurt available. The coffee is good! The staff seemed under-trained, but very kind.

The location is great. The staff is accommodating and the manager treats each guest as an actual guest not a customer, the bed was comfortable, and the property was well kept. Although most country inns in Minnesota has been recently renovated this country inn has not been. Which I did not mind at all because everything was good quality and I didnt sleep in a room that smelled of paint with shotty work done.

It was much better than I expected. Erica was very helpful. Couldn't believe how hard she worked to serve everyone.

Great place. While the decor is a little worn, it still has a cozy feel. We've stayed multiple times as it's super close to Carleton College. Book early, as prime college related dates can go fast. Sam at the front desk is a dream, as are most staff members we've met.

Loved the king suite with jacuzzi. Very practical for after the wedding of Lance and Martha David.

I was visiting for accepted students day at Carleton College, so the location was very good. The walking distance to the college and the downtown area was just what I was looking for. The rooms were slightly below average for Country Inn & Suites, but my expectations weren't that high. The complementary breakfast was pretty good for being free!

Great place to go and take a time out with family or friends at the pool. Or even stop after a long day of travel. Nice breakfast and fresh cookies. Great staff that are willing to help. And a wonderful house keeping staff.

Convenient to everything in Northfield. Close to St. Olaf and downtown. The breakfast is decent!

Do not stay here if you want to get some sleep, it is very noisy and the hotel staff will not even notice the rude and noisy people and think to tell them to be quite it has to be pointed out to them. I stayed here for two nights and both nights around 10:00 pm a large group of people arrived and thought it was a good time for a pizza party. This lasted until 2:00 am, I requested to change rooms, it didn’t help cause they were in the whole hotel. I will not stay here again.

The staff is very nice, but the place is in desperate need of a thorough cleaning. Seriously, the carpets NEED to be shampooed all the way to the nooks and crannies. Breakfast was ok. Pool was dirty. No on site fitness room, but you get free access to the YMCA so that was great.

I was only there for open swimming, and the hot tub was overflowing, there was a cookie and other crumbs all over the floor, and one of the overhead sprinklers was leaking. On the positive side, the staff was friendly.

Not the worst or the best. Fairly clean, quiet etc. Breakfast is what you’d expect from a typical hotel experience. If you’re looking for something nicer and more spacious and classic, try the Archer House nearby, but they don’t have free breakfast.

Does the job. Room was fine to sleep in, has good coffee in the morning, and I didn't have much time to really explore the hotel. Good if you're on a business trip.

Upon checking in I found a clump of long hair on the table by the window, as well as in the TV stand. Cracked paint and mold on the bathroom walls. Teenage girls running around the lobby giggling. The only plus to this place is the decent breakfast spread the have available. My company booked this room, I am making sure they book my room elsewhere in the future.

Staff is good and helpful. Rooms are poor at best for the price. Dirty carpets, poor ambience. Beds are mushy and uncomfortable. Power outlets are very few to plug electronics. But there is not much choice in Northfield, MN.

Terrible service. Will never be going back. Had a reservation for a king bed as it was our wedding day. Checked in ahead of time and was told there were no king beds left. Asked if anyone in our wedding party that hadn't checked in had a king bed. Was told no but then in the morning found out two couples had king beds that night.

Hotel is ok but way over priced! Staff is friendly. Beds are not the best. Some are really soft and some are a bit firmer, depends on the room you get. Breakfast was ok. Coffee was good! We had a street side room luckily, otherwise we would have heard the train even more. Train woke us up sometimes. The pool looked poor and needs a serious update. The water (shower) has too much chlorine and makes the skin very itchy.

A fine hotel for a short stay. The bed is fine, albeit old and lumpy. Our room keys had issues, taking several tries before working. That said, you almost do not need a key as the door doesn't latch unless you really pull and wiggle it in to position. While there are not too many options in Northwest, for the price, ~$160 a night, I would still like to see more.

The rate was great and the location is within close range of many great shops for food and shopping. The bed is comfortable and so are the pillows. There was however an empty milk carton in my fridge when I checked in and the batteries in one of the remotes don't work. Some areas need touch up (rusty spots on door frames, mirror is hanging off to one side, spackle in bathroom beginning to peel and crack). Still not a bad stay and I'll use them again in the future if I am in the area.

Normally I don't give reviews for hotels and I usually don't believe people when they say they had a horrible experience. I guess I'm that statistic now. My stay was just terrible. The room had black shoe polish all over the floor. The coffee table had red blood looking liquid on it. The wall paper was peeling off the walls. Huge cobwebs in the corners of the room. A bag of mms wedged between the fridge and wardrobe closet. Very thick dust on the entertainment center. Nasty spots on the couch. We told office about the room they offered another one to us but it needed to be cleaned first. They said half an hour. We waited but it wasn't ready yet. They said they would call us when it was ready. So we went downtown and they never called us. So we finally called 3 hrs later and they said it was ready. New room was a little cleaner. Wall paper still falling off wall. Opened water bottle on night stand from previous guest. No toilet paper in bathroom. We decided to stay. Bad experience all around. Very disappointed.

The stay was overall pleasant, and all of our interactions with staff were quite cordial, however, the room we stayed in was definitely starting to show it's age. It certainly wasn't bad condition, but nothing to write home about. The location of the hotel is great, except that it's right next to an active railway. Fortunately I heard no trains during the night. They have an indoor pool, but we did not swim in it. Breakfast is near the lobby and consists eggs, sausage, waffles, pastries, bagels, yogurt, cereal and juice.

This hotel is pretty nice, rooms are pretty big, beds are more comfortable than home so I'm grateful. Extra blanket and pillows are also helpful. Breakfast was quite delicious, 3 hot items rotated so you get something different every day. I would definitely stay here again. Location isn't the best if your on the side with the train and are a light sleeper. If that is the case, you can ask for a room on the other side of the hotel.

It's great. Great location next to Caribou Coffee and fast food. Very close to St. Olaf college. Comfy and clean.

Beds are comfy, pool is nice, everything is clean, the train is loud and annoying but they give you earplugs so they got that going for them which is nice.

Rooms were clean. They looked like they need a little remodeling. They have an 80s feel to them. Service was good. Staff was friendly. Good location as it is only about a 5 minute walk to the down town area.

Hotel was close to downtown area. Rooms where nice little outdated. Service was outstanding. Night clerk was very nice. Enjoyable outdoor sitting area.

Shower is slippery and the water was tepid. Thin walls made it easy to hear doors closing and people chatting in the halls.

Breakfast food had mold on it and the manager said to still serve it to guests knowing it had mold. I know this because I used to work there. They have bugs. I was told that their fire alarms don't even work and they know that. I would not recommend staying here.

It's one of only a few choices in the area. Note — it's true there is no gym, but they have an arrangement where guests are able to use the facilities of a nearby gym (I think it's a Y).

Stayed in a king suite which was nicely appointed. I slept on the sleeper sofa which was not comfy (to be expected). The bummer was that the room was either freezing or baking. The staff was friendly, the service good, and the breakfast tasty. It was a good value.

Very overpriced… paid $150 for one night and that was the military rate! Hotel needs an update and to be cleaned. There was mold growing above our shower (Room 211). This was not 'normal wear and tear' from an aging bathroom because I was able to wipe some if it off with a washcloth. The hallways look run down. Didn't ask for a new room because my infant son was already asleep. Didn't have time to talk with management because we flew out of Minnesota early the next morning on an international flight. Breakfast was good but the dining area is very cramped. We did hear the train at night… you can see the tracks from the window in the room. The best thing about the hotel are the comfortable beds. We stayed at the hotel in October 2015.

Customer service exhibited by the "Manager" of this establishment is very poor. Very rough around the edges lady who takes all issues or questions offensively. Stayed for a night for a wedding that we were in, in town. Was informed incorrectly by front desk that money could be credited back. Only stayed 1 night due to the overpriced rooms. When speaking in follow up with manager, she was very short and defensive. Am a very understanding individual until treated disrespectfully. Would not recommend this to people going down to Northfield area.

Comfy beds, perfect for a night or two. Would definitely come back. Kids had a fun time in the pool. Continental breakfast. Nice staff. Nice sitting area in front of the fireplace to play cribbage.

It's not that great of a hotel. It does the job if you are looking for a cheap quality stay. Breakfast was not great. Service was kinda crabby.

The rooms were fine, nothing great but it had all of the normal amenities. Fridge, TV, microwave, Iron, coffee pot. I didn't find any signs of bedbugs. The hotel honored the government rate of $77. The staff at the front desk was very helpful when I asked for the location of a grocery store and haircut place. Most of the reviews mentioned a bad experience with the trains at night, I didn't hear any of the trains, I was in room 107 which is on the opposite side of the hotel from the train tracks. The hotel does not have a fitness center, but it is close to a running trail that has a very scenic route. It really beats a treadmill. This hotel is in a very nice location. I stayed June, 2011.

This hotel has THE comfiest beds I have ever slept in at a hotel. The continental breakfast was good, not too fancy, but quality. Other reviews have mentioned issues with train noise, but neither I nor my guest experienced that. In all, I would DEFINITELY recommend this hotel for anyone coming to Northfield. Very affordable and worth every penny.
