The view was absolutely gorgeous. We loved the zip lining. We were a little upset about not having an elevator and only one restaurant being open, when there were supposed to be 2. Also, I’ve never been somewhere that didn’t have a complementary breakfast. Not only was it not complementary, the Buffet was $37 for two people! Not worth it. Rooms were ok and the hallway that lead to the pool looked straight out of the Shining. Would come back for the view, but would lodge elsewhere. Also, shout out to the bartender on the night of September 18th. I didn’t catch her name but she was fantastic. 

We LOVED this resort and were pleasantly surprised at the charm of this gem just outside of Galena. It was our first time to the area. The staff was so kind and sweet. From the front desk to the restaurant, we enjoyed it all. Thank you for the hospitality and clean comfortable rooms.

The scenery is beautiful the atmosphere is nice the restaurant is really good the bed was comfortable the Jacuzzi was nice and Mary Frances at the front desk was phenomenal!

There are a couple very rude ladies that have yelled at us throughout the weekend. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Erin is the manager who yelled at kids when they stopped onto the restaurant to check in with their Grandpa. One of the kids was explaining how she had hit her head and Erin would not stop telling them to leave. The other waitstaff, Maureen, would not let us sit down in the restaurant when we walked in because she assumed we were not eating. All in all, we observed these 2 ladies extreme rudeness to us and many other people.

I was shocked that the only good you could get was room service, despite the website promoting all the restaurants they had. My kids had lessons at 9, and got out there promptly, then waited until nearly 10 to get a lesson. Then, the cafe opened for grab and go abd indoor seating, despite advertising no indoor dining. We will not be back again. Terrible experience.

I'm so over the covid. Everything was closed basically. I want the buffet and bars reopened fully. Makes it's so much more fun. Still a great place to stay and ski.

Best you will find in the Midwest! Very kid friendly. Great lessons for kids. However the hotel staff & whole hotel stay experience could improve greatly!

Beautiful sunsets and reasonable dining not to mention all the amenities available. Skiing in winter is their busiest time but you are assured of a great time any time in the summer. Been doing this for 20+ years. Highly recommended.

This hotel need a lot of updates to its amenities, rooms, needs an elevator. The view is beautiful but they don’t offer a lot for guest. For as big as Chestnut Mountain Resort is, you would think they would have more options for food choices and activities. Not every guest wants to travel back and forward to Galena. The front office staff was not very friendly and when we arrive they did very little to offer suggestions for things to do. We had dinner at the bar and the bartender was not very nice or attentive. The pool was open but their was a jacuzzi right next to it and it was dirty. No one wants to see that when you’re staying at a establishment.

My now husband and I were married outdoors at Chestnut Mountain and had a reception in the Vista Room. It is an absolutely gorgeous venue. Their wedding planner, Chelsea, is extremely helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. I definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a wedding venue, or even just a nice, beautiful place to get away to for a weekend.

Great ski resort. Have specials and deal every year! Took the kiddos here to learn to ski! Have a learn to ski program with very nice ski instructors. Have a great bunny hill with a conveyer like lift to take the kids back up. Nice skiing hills and lifts.

Nice and beautiful all season place, excellent personal, always helpful and friendly. At least 5 available attractions available, big fun for kids and adults. Reasonable admission feels, some discounts are available. Big restaurant close to parking lot. Clean facilities, good views of river and forest.

Our kids had a blast but make sure you wear the proper attire and ride the slide with care. A few road rash burns for some in our group will teach you a lesson. Apparently our kids are all better riders as they went at least 6 times and came out scratch free. Look for a Groupon, come after 5pm or buy the Adventure package to save $. Summit sports bar restaurant had good food and drinks for everyone. Recommend to bring some water bottles.

The room that we stayed is was modern. Service was great. Staff was very friendly. The summer activity they had was very enjoyable like the soaring eagle zip line the Alpine slide. The Segway tour was the best it had some amazing view of the Mississippi River. There is a min golf course that could use some work. Overall a great place to relax.

Welcoming staff, great rooms, fair prices. I enjoy the spring, summer, fall months for outdoor activities here. Both of the restaurants food is delicious and very well priced. Very comfortable place to stay for a weekend get away. I can not wait to go back!

This place is amazing! Super friendly staff at every turn. Great food options with a breathtaking view. The Alpine slides and Soaring Eagle were off the chart FUN! The ice machine was broke the two days we were there (too much fun to care) and the bathrooms don’t have a counter to put your stuff out, just a tiny shelf above the sink (and too much fun to care). There is no elevator so pack smaller suitcases to get your stuff up to your room. You will be so dazzled I guarantee that you will not care! Yaaaaaayyyyyyy we ❤️ Chestnut Mountain resort!

We came in the summer not to ski but to ride "The Alpine slide" a giant slide over 1/2 mile long winding down the side of the hill. You ride on "sleds", the sleds are equipped with a lever to control your speed. You can go as fast or slow as you want and it really is fun! I was very impressed with the staff, everyone was eager to help and very polite! I think this impressed me most of all!

Awesome at any time of the year. Rides and adventures during the spring/summer/fall. Skiing in the winter. Nice overnight accommodations. The restaurants are quite nice. Downtown Historic Galena & shopping about 15 min scenic drive away.

I was married here on 6/23/18. I could not have asked for a better venue. Everyone, and I mean everyone was so helpful at Chestnut. Joan is amazing and made sure that I was never over stressed about wedding planning. The food was delicious, we actually heard from multiple guests that it was the best wedding food they'd ever had! My father in law is mostly wheelchair bound which was a big concern when we chose a venue. Chestnut does not have elevators so we were nervous when we first looked at the venue but they assured us he would be taken care of. They weren't kidding. Be it golf carts or vans, they made sure he got from place to place with ease and no embarrassment! The views here are stunning, talk about awesome wedding photos! I highly recommend having your ceremony at Grand View Pointe if you can spring for it. You won't be sorry, the landscape is easily one of the most serene in Illinois! Make sure to take in a sunset while you're here, gorgeous! Don't forget this place isn't just for skiing and snowboarding, in the summer they have a ziplime, Alpine slide, Segway tours, frisbee golf, and so much more!

Very friendly employees, excellent ski rental, upstairs bar is fairly cozy and service was decent. Free coffee in one of the lobbies! This is a great place for a first timer. Totally coming back. According to my fellow snow bunnies, the lifts are "slow" but who cares? The views are spectacular! Wonderful time.

For the Midwest. This is one of the best resorts around. The snow was great. You will have a nice view of the river while skiing and you'll never wait more than a few minutes to get on the lift. The restaurant had a large selection of food and it was actually pretty good for the price. Plenty of seating inside with views of the slopes. If you're looking for a quality weekend ski trip, this would be the place to go.

First time going skiing and honestly an excellent experience! Getting rental skis and boots was easy. They have a few great hills for never skiing before, but also some more advanced ones, two black diamonds; something for everyone! We didn't stay overnight but did eat at The Summit restaurant. Prices were to be expected, a little high but anymore it's standard to pay 7 dollars for a beer. Cannot wait to go again!

We only came to ski for a few hours, but the facility is great. Staff was very helpful getting us our rental equipment. The equipment was in great condition and fit comfortably. The skiing was about as good as you could hope for in the Midwest, beautiful view of the Mississippi river and sunset. The slopes are also very well lit, skiing at night was wonderful. No complaints. Would go again!

What a relaxing place to be! LOVED all of the amenities available without leaving the hotel — great pool & hot tub, large bar, & wonderful dinner & breakfast areas. All of the foods & beverages we had were awesome. Skiing just outside the door. We'll be back, even if we're not skiing.

We have amazing day here with our friends! first tried skiing ⛷ ⛷ it was unforgettable! I love it! before the closure of the season, we will definitely come back here again! After several hours of skiing, exhausted but happy we visited the restaurant. Delicious food.

Awesome resort. Quiet, peaceful, beautiful. Very friendly staff, low prices and and functioning amenities. I didn't stay at the hotel but ate at the restaurant and rented ski+lift for the day. Food was delicious and my equipment was adjusted properly by the staff and never had any issues with it. Lift staff was always friendly and helpful. All the tracks were open and clean. Definitely will refer that place!

Years ago we took our Children here for vacation. Now we are back with our grandchildren, we had a wonderful time. The Staff could not have been more helpful. We had one meal that wasn't so great, but all the others were 5 star.
If you stay here make sure to check out the north & south views points, and pay the little bit extra to get a room with a view, it was so worth it to have a cup of coffee in the morning & see the view! Take a bike with you, or hike the trails.

I have been coming here every year during the summer/fall months since I can remember. My dad and I used to ride our Harley up when I was younger. When I started dating my fiance 5 years ago, it became our own little weekend getaway. We decided to get married here this past weekend. Chestnut Mountain Resort, and especially Joan Dillon (the events coordinator) were absolutely amazing during the two years that we planned our wedding. Joan went above and beyond to meet with us numerous times throughout the year, and communication was fantastic! She answered all of our questions and was able to accommodate all of our requests. Danielle, who coordinated the food and bar, was also very helpful! My only complaint is that some of the wait staff were a little rude to our guests during breakfast over the weekend, and the manager (Aaron I believe) was rude to my wedding planner when she was trying to pay the final balance/bill. Overall, though, my wedding was wonderful and I feel so blessed. I would definitely recommend Chestnut Mountain as a little destination location for your wedding!

Really beautiful! Recommended! The rooms are very nice, my bed was handy. Breakfast is not included in the price but there are many activities to do; Also there is a restaurant from which you can see the magnificent view that there is sunset over the Mississipi. You can also organize weddings, both the celebration and the reception. I recommend it both in the summer (period I have experienced) and in winter since there are ski resorts right outside the resort. It's probably fabulous even in the other seasons. He won't disappoint you.
