I have been at SummerHouse in Bloomington, IN, for 10 months with one more month to go before moving into my own home. Everything has been perfect — I highly recommend the place. The folks in the office are very attentive, the place is clean, and even during construction they have been very thoughtful and considerate.

Great for graduate students/young professionals/young couples Pro's: — The staff here at Summerhouse is second to none. Patrick constantly goes out of his way to make sure all of our needs are met. He responds promptly to emails, seemingly at all hours of the day, and ensures that all of our needs are met. — The flat rate per month is also a huge plus. The units are reasonably priced, especially considering all utilities are included and there is a washer and dryer in all the units. All appliances are new and high quality. — The grounds are very well maintained. Even with the new buildings going up, I don't think that I have seen a single piece of litter in the 9 months we have been here. — There are community porches on the ends of each building as well as a community "Hoosier Room" that help make up for the fact that there are no private balconies or porch space. — Walking distance to a small park. — Quiet neighborhood. Con's: — Parking is limited. This has been made worse because of the construction, but it appears that once the construction of the additional units is completed there will be significantly more parking. — Some of the units do not have closets. We are in a loft and built a closet in the back room and use it as our office/closet, and then the loft as our bedroom. So while this is actually a plus for us, I could see where it could be a problem for some. — A bit far from "downtown" Bloomington.

Great Graduate/Young Professional/Professor Housing Pro's: -Patrick! Such a great person to work with during leasing the process and accessible and warm to any questions or concerns that I have had since I lived there — good bang for you buck, the prices are very reasonable especially if you are moving from a big city, and the convenience of paying all your bills at once just adds on — the property is basically new and everything is nice clean and up to date — much more spacious than the square footage makes it appear to be Con's — no bathtubs (i guess most millennials don't really have time for baths these days anyways) — certain units don't have closets — however I've turned my loft space into a full vanity/closet space — no covered parking (only time this really matters is about Dec-March but a good ice scraper and some deicer will do the trick) — a little "far" (Bloomington Local Language) from school (in reality it takes me 7 minutes to get to campus everyday) Overall great place to live. They are quiet, spacious, and most importantly all inclusive. But more important you feel appreciated as a tenant.

Our family stayed at Summerhouse for 12 days this year. We loved it. The rooms are cozy. There are ceiling fans and central air in the rooms. The floors are a nice vinyl hardwood style floor. This is nice because it has a home type feel but you don't have to worry about scratching them. There is no housekeeping. Where some may not like this we loved it. More privacy and makes it feel more like your own. There are washers and dryers in the units. We only had one small problem and the staff after hours on Sunday was within 30 minutes able to resolve our issue with the problems. Everytime we visit Bloomington we will stay here. Thank you for making our trip comfortable.

I lived in the Breaking Away flat while I lived at Summerhouse at Indiana for seven months. The only reason I left before the end of my lease was because I had to move for work. This apartment was fully-furnished, and all utilities were included in my rent (tv, internet, electricity, water, heating, A/C). The apartment I stayed in was great because it included everything that I needed. I am a contractor, so my work in Indiana was temporary, which is why I chose to live somewhere that I would not need to buy furniture for a relatively short time before moving again. Everything that I needed was provided in this apartment, which was mainly a stove and microwave for cooking, and tv's, a bed, and a couch for relaxing after work. The other furnishings that came with the apartment was a new washer/dryer, a desk, barstools and a chair, a dishwasher, refrigerator, freezer, and a pull-out couch for guests. The staff were always helpful whenever I needed something, especially the times that my lock malfunctioned, and when I was looking for a sublet for my apartment. The other residents mainly keep to themselves, so this apartment complex is great if you are a person that values privacy and tranquility (except for the one time where one of the temporary residents set off the fire alarm). The surrounding area is also a quiet neighborhood with ample parking, a park down the road, laser tag across the street, and easy access to IU shuttles and E. 3rd Street.

Reviews prior to August 2014 are for a property that is no longer on this site. A SummerHouse Inn was a motel that was located at this property previously. The property was demolished in early 2014 and a brand new buildings were built. As of August 2014, the property is now now as SummerHouse at Indiana. SummerHouse offers comfortable, cottage-inspired one bedroom flats, equipped and furnished like your home, and available for lease for as long or as short as you need.

I'm sure at one point this place was a lot nicer than it is now. It hasn't been remodeled or revamped in a long time. Pastels, old floral prints, and decrepit furniture are the decor. The heating and AC units are very old, and very noisy. Everything looks very dingy, and poorly maintained; from the parking lot where it's a minefield of potholes to the walkways whose coverings leak and where wires are exposed, and things are literally coming apart at the seams. I had to switch my room, because the hot water in the first room I was placed in was a muddy orange color, meaning the hot water tank has probably rusted through. The second room's bathroom had no functional ventilation, and visible rust stains from a leaky faucet. Not to be overly harsh, but I've stayed at cheap motels which have been better maintained. The staff so far (one nice lady) have been very accommodating, and generally friendly. They even called me to let me know how to check-in after the lobby closes. They seem hospitable, but the poor conditions of the place (not to mention a very uncomfortable rock-hard mattress), coupled with almost $80 a night fee means I will not be coming back and staying here. I also do not expect to pay the full price, given the issues that I've had so far. Overall, I'd give it a 1/5 stars. On a positive note, there seems to be quite a bit of vacancy here! Decent free Wi-Fi, so that's a bonus! Update: Received a very nice phone call from the manager.

Don't waste your $. Rooms are dirty and not well maintained. The carpet was not vacuumed and the beds are stiff and seem to have sheets from the 1960's on them. Regardless of the price, it's not worth the money. The walls are thin half of the doors do not close all the way. We can see light in all the cracks of the doors. Most of the rooms have neighboring doors that connect by simply unlocking the door. I would rate this as one of the worst places I've ever stayed.
