It was perfect from the moment I arrived. Just what I needed. Peggy was at the front desk and she was amazing. The building and Rooms are beautiful and clean. The hotsprings are relaxing and perfect temperatures. I absolutely LOVE this place. I will be back.

First time visiting here and we loved it! This trip was for my 30th birthday and they even had a card signed by all the staff on the bed when we checked into our room. The location is perfect with the river right behind the hotel and Main St. In front. Our room was comfy and had amazing views! The food was exquisite with exceptional service! The mineral soaking tubs were relaxing and secluded. Even the maintenance man was super friendly and knowledgeable about the area. I can’t say enough nice things about the wonderful staff or experience we had! Thank you for making my birthday a special and memorable one! I highly recommend staying here and enjoying all that Lava Hot Springs has to offer!

We had such a wonderful stay. The room was wonderful and super comfortable, the staff was very friendly and helpful. We also absolutly loved the private hot pools. We had such a relaxing stay. We are planning our next stay soon!

I've been here twice now, about a year apart each, and both times have been good. It's a historic hotel, and the aesthetic of the rooms reflect this (in a good way! ), but they are comfortable. There are plug in heaters and coolers depending on the season that both work great. The food is good, last year it was a complimentary breakfast style thing that you'd see anywhere else, but this year it was a bit different, they had a menu of different specialty items you could choose from for free, and extras you could pay for if you wanted (for instance, I got a lox sandwich, a banana, and a big yogurt I was very satisfied with). There are 3 mineral baths inside and I believe 1 outside (I only learned about the outside one this year, and didn't get the opportunity to see it). When I come back next year this is the hotel I will try to book.

Friendly staff, great quiche, the outdoor hot pool was nice not much hotter at night than a regular hot tub, the indoor ones are super hot and a bit musty due to lack of ventilation. This was a great place to stay for an anniversary and thankfully children free. The wine tasting was fun. We did not eat at the restaurant here only the breakfast. Breakfast in the photo.

The only place we will stay in Lava Hot Springs. The staff are very friendly, the beds are comfortable, the private pools and massages are amazing. The restaurant and bar are the best with amazing food and drinks.

My experience here is good, it is pretty clean but there is some smell though. Breakfast is included and taste good especially the latte. Free mineral bath is provided. I'm satisfied overall.

Our experience was that the mineral hot tub was good but there's no ceiling, only covered with plastic above. Nice place but need a lot of up grade inside like we've to unplug TV or lamp outlet to use for charging our phones, etc… Also, no TV guide channels. You've to go through every channel in order to find your channel that you want to watch. Understand that it's historical hotel but need a lot of upgrading inside! View around is pretty.

I have been staying in Lava Hot Springs for over 20 years and I could kick myself for not staying at The Riverside before now. The Hotel is beautiful and historic. The rooms are clean, comfortable and beautiful. I will NEVER stay anywhere else again!

My favorite place to stay in Lava! We stayed as a couple in a newly remodeled room, the king size bed was so comfy we stayed a 2nd night. The large bathroom was beautiful! And as always the food and drinks at the Portneuf bar and grill were fabulous. The staff is awesome.

It was a nice environment, excellent but kind of pricey bar, great food, and helpful service. I liked that I had a place to smoke that wasn't half a mile away. I know its not a popular habit, but most places make you feel like a second class guest for it. The beds were comfortable, and we had such a great time in our private hot pools that we didn't even bother going to Lava Hot Springs. Its where I intend to stay from now on when I go there.

Historical hotel that seems very well managed and maintained. The staff are great and responded promptly and professionally. We ate at the restaurant, Portneuf Grille & Lounge, and were treated first class by our host Rachel (a reservation is recommended and saved the day for the dish we mentioned we wanted and asked for when making the reservation).

We stayed here for a night; it was a good place. The room was small, clean and cozy. The bathroom, however, was big and seemed newly renovated. The pillows were not my favorite. If you prefer fluffy pillows, I would recommend to bring your own. The private mineral baths were very relaxing and nice. However, the 3rd bathhouse was missing ceiling tiles. In the outdoor bath the jets sadly did not work, but it was extremly rejuvenating; especially with it snowing outside. It made for a great view and a relaxing time. Upon arrival and giving payment information; we were charged $150 more than what we were quoted via phone and email confirmation. Even though it was frustrating, the gentleman (Richard) at the front desk did what he could to help. He was very kind and understanding. The breakfast was okay. There wasn’t anything special. The massages were wonderful and extremely relaxing. I enjoyed that we had a 30 minuet “soak” before receiving the message. This made the message more relaxing and far more enjoyable. I believe that one of The Riverside Inn’s policies focuses on smaller children. This makes for a quiet stay, and an unirupted nights rest. Ultimately, it was a great stay with wonderful employees. We hope to have another opportunity to stay at the wonderful Riverside Inn in at Lava Hot Springs, ID.

From the outside it doesn't look like much, but inside it's very charming. The rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly. There are three hot pools in the building that are private and have doors that lock. The restaurant in the hotel is nice. The food was delicious, though the portions were a little small. The building has been renovated but still retains it's original style. I would recommend it to anyone and would definitely go again.

It was like totally awsome, first rate staff Richard Liz and Robert are there for all your needs, good food and beverage and the night watchman just rocks keeping the guests safe and building quiet. Would recommend to anyone to enjoy the warm mineral baths they have. High five and kudos :)

I got the absolute pleasure of spending my birthday at this gem of an inn. The inn itself is a historical building and is beautifully maintained. The private rooms that house the springs are intimate and so very pretty. The staff are on point. They are so friendly and accommodating. Our dogs were welcome and loved on by the staff. They loved their stay as well. Thank you Riverside Hot Springs Inn for a treasured birthday memory!

Old hotel with all the old charm. Best place to stay in Lava because the hot springs are in private rooms and one outside, restaurant and massages are all on site. You really never have to leave. Very relaxing getaway. We loved it and won't stay anywhere else when we visit. Great staff and location if you do want to walk main street.

After a wonderful stay back in February we decided, once more, to book another room at the Riverside Inn. The room was wonderful but the shining star is Alonso! He is a master at what he does and is extremely personable (we could’ve stayed all night in the bar sampling his cocktail creations! ) Honestly, we don’t know why one would stay elsewhere. The history, rooms, staff, private soaks, food and drinks are unbeatable. We were hesitant to leave a good review in fear that this gem would be discovered by more people. Thank you! Whole experience was fantastic! Room was quaint, comfortable, clean, and well appointed. Staff was wonderful, helpful, welcoming, and friendly. You can feel the history. Hot tub baths are amazing — private with lots of availability. Our dogs were very welcomed — the highly manager even gave them a treat! Massage staff — Amazing! All around exceptional experience!

We have stayed here multiple times. We love it! The mineral hot pools are fantastic and felt great on my achy joints. Be aware that this is an old historic building. The charm, history and nostalgia comes with lots of stairs, old fixtures and creaky floors. It isn’t the Ritz, but I’ll take it over any luxury hotel for a weekend get away with my sweetheart!

This is our second visit to the Riverside, and it is my favorite hotel in Lava. Richard, at the front desk is helpful and funny. Although we arrived late in the afternoon in Saturday, he cheerfully made us dinner reservations, and we had time to soak in the tubs before dinner. There are three private indoor tubs and one outside. The water is a great temperature and the private rooms for soaking are very relaxing. I can't say enough about the restaurant. The food is amazing. We began with a duck confit appetizer that was exquisite. Followed with a Caesar salad. My husband enjoyed the seared ahi tuna, which was prepared to perfection and I loved the cashew stuffed avocados. We finished with a divine chocolate torte and a crime brûlée that was delightful. The best part of the trip is always pastry chef Mary's wonderful creations. On Sunday morning we enjoyed home made meat pies, topped with duck confit gravy, as well as a variety of fresh made pastries. This hotel is an absolute gem.

Charming, Relaxing environment. The private soaking tubs inside and out are great. 5 minutes from native spiritual grounds were you can soak in the hot waters right were it enters the river. Hicking and river rafting topped off my stay. Many thanks to the great staff.

My wife and I booked last minute for just a weekend get away with just the 2 of us… this place was spectacular and worth the price! 1. Great location. 2. Amazing architecture. 3. Incredible staff. 4. Delicious food and tasty drinks. 5. Impeccable restaurant and service. 6. The hot springs being tapped into the building, and hot tub outside was warm, and relaxing! My wife and I had a wonderful stay and incredible experience! We will definitely be returning!

Amazing place. Got here late at night and went straight to bed. When I woke up this morning I felt great. Place has huge windows so the interior is nicely lit by sunlight and it feels cozy and warm. There is a lot of beautiful woodwork inside and absolutely amazing furniture. We had continental breakfast and enjoyed a cup of coffee outside on a terrace. Beautiful view of the river and landscape. The whole time we spent here was an experience. If you love historic places, you will love this hotel.

Great hotel for a great price. Managed to secure a reservation for the weekend of the 4th of July and didn't expect the price to be as low as it was. That and the history behind this place is really interesting.

Nice place. They have their own hot pools which guest's are able to use by booking a time. If you want privacy, get a room with a private bathroom.

Located in Lava Hot Springs, ID, it's a historic hotel downtown. Friendly staff. You can reserve your own private tub for soaking in the hot springs. Town had lots of activities and live music. I will be back to explore more!

This is a charming little place but the hot pools they had you would have to lay down in for the water for it to be completely covering your body they weren't very deep unless you go to the hot tub outside. The beds were very squeaky and made a lot of noise with any movement.

Admittedly, this inn is more historical than filled with modern convenience. However, if you're looking for a quaint, homey room surrounded by surprisingly decadent amenities, this place is a little slice of heaven. The rooms are noticeably quaint. You won't find many electrical outlets and no coffee makers or fridges in the regular rooms (the suite may be a different story). On the other hand, the original hard wood floors are gorgeous. If you like the antique feel, you will love all the little touches that are still visible everywhere. The walls look like the original plaster as well as the doors and trim. The rooms are gorgeous if not fully equipped. We were here in the middle of winter and enjoyed the hot mineral tubs immensely. There are four to choose from including an outdoor one that faces some gorgeous scenery. Even if you don't stay at the inn though, you really have to try the Portneuf Cafe for dinner. Hands down one of the best meals I've had. They include a number of locally appropriate meals (their chopped elk steak with blueberry sauce is amazing) and offer fantastic value and good portions of truly gourmet meals. The chefs (two main and one pastry) are friendly and always on hand for questions or special requests. One of the chefs is also an amazing mixologist in the attached bar. For a special treat, watch him put together a whiskey sour. All in all, I'll probably make this place a yearly tradition just for the amenities.

Great staff vary friendly and helpful the rooms were clean and nice, but a little dated and the TV sucks only a 13 inch tube type that was probably 30 years old.

The riverside hot springs inn was very nice. And very historical. Three indoor and very private hot tubs in the basement. They give you a breakfast voucher on weekends, and the best breakfast can be found here. Had a breakfast burrito, and it was excellent. The voucher was $7, the burrito $10, but we'll worth it, and coffee was free. The hot tubs were our reason, and they were excellent. Lava hot water and complete privacy. They even provide robes to get to the hot tub in. They have rooms that require a shared bathroom, but we went all out for a private rest room. Price was competitive, and we felt well worth it. Our room was a little small, but perfectly cozy for the two of us. We got the full tour, and our room was as large as the room Theodore Roosevelt always stayed in. There is a wall to wall map in the lobby, and it is almost worth the visit by itself. Must have been made originally in 1800, the owner said it was the Venezuelan version. Awesome trip, excellent hotel and the best customer service in the town.

I have yet to stay at the Riverside Inn but I have been to the restaurant it also offers. The food is beyond excellent and it's fun to feel fancy. We were able to meet the chefs who were really nice and we had top notch service throughout the meal. On Thursday nights, which is when we went, they have live music for date night and it was a nice touch and sounded great. Definitely going back next time I visit Lava.

I haven't stayed at the motel, but I recently had my second visit to the restaurant with my boyfriend. It was a Thursday night and not very crowded. The chefs were both very kind and talented in what they do! The food was amazing and the wait time was short. I'd visit again!

The 5 stars is not because it is a 5 star hotel. It is dated, knowing that, we enjoyed the experience. My wife and I disappear to Lava for a getaway. We went up on Thursday to enjoy the live music in the dining room, Melody Pulsipher. She did a good job connecting with those there. We meal was not hardy but sufficient. We had a kingsize room which also included it's own bathroom, (some queensize share a bath I've heard). It was clean, but dated, again, we knew that going in. The next morning we had a couples massage in the massage area downstairs. They did a great job! We then soaked in a private hot pool. We left, refreshed. The 5 star rating is because, at the end, we accomplished what we had set out for, a peaceful, relaxing and comfortable time.

This 1914 small hotel was okay. Some of the rooms have to share bathrooms, but I didn't reserve that type of room. The manager working at the front desk was very nice. The lobby was the best I have seen; it was beautiful. The room we received had comfortable beds and a clean bathroom: the room was very small! The back board of the bed was metal and old-fashioned. For the high price I payed, the carpet needed to be clean and the bathroom door didn't lock. The TV was also old-fashioned and looked static on the screen. The free breakfast is light and is made to fill you up for about 30 minutes. The hot spring baths are okay, but the third inside bath needs to be remodeled. If you are looking for a modern hotel with spacey rooms, this just isn't for you. For the price, it's definitely not worth it. I will not be staying in this hotel again. Thank you.

Nice staff but overpriced for what you get. We paid an extra $30 to "upgrade" to a room with a toilet all to be too hot due to no AC in the room. Open the window to cool off and have to listen to loud locals and the train. So at 1 AM we gave up on trying to sleep and drove back to SLC.

The experience at the Riverside was absolute heaven. The hotel has private mineral soaking tubs in the basement with a "killer" massage offered right across the hall. A continental breakfast is offered during the week with awesome discount coupons for breakfast on the weekend. The rooms are very clean and the lobby feels like you are in Granny's living room. The hotel has quite a personality. It is a beautiful hotel with a very friendly and helpful staff. It's great to have an option to soak inside or out with soaking robes provided. This is the perfect time of year to get into the outside mineral tub. You can't go wrong at the Riverside and guys, I am on my way back soon! P/S They might question letting you through the door but they would never question your dog. Doggies love the Riverside too.

This review is regarding our 3-day stay during September, 2013 — — Old-world charm and a relaxed atmosphere were evident as a friendly, helpful staff greeted us after a long day's drive. The Riverside Inn's private hot spring baths are the oldest in the area, and are the historic basis for the small town's popularity among hot springs enthusiasts. Our room was rustic, yet comfortable — — with a King Bed, Cable TV, and the soft sounds of the river outside our window — — a delightful relief from the typical traffic noise we found at most "modern" hotels. The Lounge atmosphere is bright, yet intimate, and is the ONLY non-smoking lounge in town — — with a folksy touch that added to the overall ambiance of the Inn. Our dining experience was relaxed, with courteous service that made the excellent gourmet menu (prepared by Chef Alonzo) a special treat that we had not anticipated in such a remote location. There are also Public Mineral Baths nearby, several shops, and ice-cream kiosks for a refreshing treat. There are relaxing walks by the river grotto, and a small park nearby, where our Old Dog Raina could relax in the shade. Our overall experience was very positive, and we'll be returning again in September, 2014.

We were driving across Wyoming in late March when my son smartly decided that we needed to stay in another a corporate motel/hotel like we needed a hole in the head. So he got on his iPhone and started looking for hot springs. He's bright, he knew he was going to have to get mom to sign off on this side-trip, so he found and suggested an old hotel with some historic charm. Once he started to read the reviews out loud, we almost decided against making a reservation. That would have been a mistake! We enjoyed our stay a great deal. We were there in the off-season, everything was charming and slow, and maybe that helped to make it fun. We had lovely conversations with the entire staff, the owner Gail, and the chef (who is well trained, I am sorry I have forgotten his name). Is the building old? Yes. That's the point! It's an historic old building and it has its charms — — and shame on the people that stay there and don't find them! If you are looking for the Waldorf; well, you are not going to find that. But if you realize this is Idaho, and you are looking for an interesting place in an interesting little town with some bonus hot springs thrown in, this place will work just fine. We did eat in the hotel dining room. The review about 'the worst food' is three years old (and I cannot imagine the current chef worked there then). Yes, the menu can seem a bit pricey in these little boutique places but it is part of the experience.

Overall, the service we received was great (we booked it a few weeks in advance for me and my wife's honeymoon). We got a single queen, which was smaller than our queen bed at home, and before we left the outlets in our apartment burnt out. The room was pretty old — not the best. However, we got the Naughty and Nice package, which was pretty AWESOME. It provided us with a mineral bath, massage, sugar and spice foot scrub (that didn't last as long — made me sad), champagne or sparkling cider at our door before we retired for the night, and a $40 credit for the dining room at night. It was a little too pricey for everything we were getting, but the package was really nice. I think the only reason we'd come back is for the massage package, but then again we'll probably look somewhere else.

Two night minimum stay? you've earned yourself a 1 star review for trying to exploit me. If the owners are dishonest enough to try to make you pay for two nights when all you want is one then I have no interest doing any other business with them. I've stayed at this hotel a number of times in the past before this new scam was thought up and the review would have been a little better if it weren't for this greedy disgrace of a marketing tactic. The hotel is old, and with it there is a certain charm, but more than charm you'll notice that things are just run down.

When we arrived the man that checked us in was very rude and was very impatient we had never been to Lava Hot Springs so we asked questions and he was very irritated that he had to be inconvenienced with our questions. We got checked in and went to our room to find that it was less that what we had expected I thought an inn would at least have a couch that would pull out into a bed considering we brought our two kids. It was a bed and breakfast not an Inn. When we went out and asked that man we needed to upgrade our room to two queens instead of one he said to bad and that he was nice enough to give us the room because they have a two head per bed policy. When I told him I had figured there would be a pull out couch in our room he gave us a dirty look. Why would he let us check in if we were breaking their policy anyways. We would have happily go and find a different place to stay for the night. There were people who stayed in the room next to us and the door that connected was unable to lock properly so I really didn't feel like there was any privacy. We had a very hard time sleeping four on a queen size bed and my kids were definitely uncomfortable all night being squished by my husband and I trying to get an ounce of sleep. We went into one of the mineral baths which was okay the paint was peeling off the walls the ceiling was unfinished and there was a horrible draft from the window.
