I give this hotel one star because I can't give it no star. It is so nasty, spider weds in the door way going into the bathroom. The toilet had a ring in the bowl that told me it hadn't been cleaned in a while. There were no light bulbs in the lamp beside the bed. We had to take a bulb from the floor lamp to use in the bed side lamp. Hair was clinging to the shower wall, window had dog slobber on it. We stayed upstairs and the carpet on the walkway had not been cleaned in a long time. Dirt, leaves, plenty of spider webs. We rang the buzzer when we left to let the manager know how disappointed we were but he never came out. DO NOT STAY HERE! There are plenty of nice hotels in Helen.

If you want a room that's shiny and polished with all the latest bells and whistles, the Mariott is about a hundred miles to the south. But if you're ok with a clean, comfortable room with friendly service, the Chattahoochee River running behind it in the beautiful mountain town of Helen, for a fraction of what a 5 star room would cost, you will like the Hofbrau Hotel. I was told that the rooms in the back are part of the original hotel, and aren't in very good shape. My room was in the front, and I have no complaints. I've stayed in rooms with newer carpet and fresher paint, but not with fresh mountain air and walking distance to the Bavarian themed town of Helen. I'll trade bells and whistles for wading in the 'Hooch casting for rainbow trout any day.

I would not even give this place 1 star. It is very run down and I was afraid of catching something off the bed. When we arrived the room was still dirty from last guests. I had called earlier in the day to make reservation so there is no reason our room should still be dirty. The clerk/owner said he would have housekeeping come and clean room for us. We went to dinner and came back and still housekeeping had not come. I went back to office and complained about room and was told housekeeping could not come and we could not be moved to another room. The owners attitude was the worst and could tell he could care less about our situation and would not refund my payment until the next morning. Take it from me you DO NOT want to stay at this nasty hotel ever! Thank goodness we were able to find a much nicer hotel for the same price.

Spent $160 for single night. Over priced. Hot water ran out at 8:30 in morning. Freshly hatched baby preying manta's in curtains. Cigarette burns in comforter & ashes in carpet. Brilliant view of grassy lawn & side street, no river or tubers. Better read fine print before you sign in because you only have 15 minutes to notify desk manager of room discrepancies or it's to late! You don't get room key until you sign their waiver!

Not at all what we thought, holes in the wall, the mirror was so spotty, the home of an ac was a window unit beside the bathroom and was so filthy and the filter was coming apart. The manager said this happen hap the time. Said we could move to another hotel at no charge. Moved to the other hotel that was a lot, lot nicer. But the problem is they charged us 110$ a night and after we moved of course we looked it up online and the the new hotel was 84$ a night. Now if this happens all the time sounds like a bait and switch. They charge you more show you the room then move you to the cheaper hotel then recharge someone else another 110$ kinda double dipping and making cash on the room that was a lower price. Makes me wonder if they are working together and taking the difference and splitting it. Of this happens all the time. It adds up really quick, exspecialy if they are doing 40 rooms a day. Just saying. Don't book this hotel, it's trashed.

We have lunch outside by the river every other weekend. The sound of the river is so relaxing. We enjoy watching the tubers. They have one of the best burgers I've had in a long tine.

Yeah… Pics look great. River is nice. That's where it ends. Pool is over run by algae. Ac doesn't blow cold. No hangers in room (we asked front desk. None to give us). Mirror is stained. Slight smell. Its not even cute. View of river is nice we paid over $100 a night. Very disappointed. Oh the front desk leaves at 10 pm. No one is available if there are any issues. No frig in room but a 1980s microwave is here. Bare light bulbs over mirrors. And… TV is fuzzy.

Hotel is old and in need of a face lift. However if you're looking for a room just to sleep in, you can't beat this hotel for the price. We stay here every time we visit Helen and the rooms have always been clean and the beds are comfortable. It's close to town. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone that's not going to spend a lot of time in the room.

Prison mattress. Non working fireplace. Hole in the wall. The heat lamp in the bathroom is broken at the base hanging by a thin metal string. I informed the front desk man. He told me how lucky I was that the room was discounted rate. It's the off season dude. Sub par heater in room. Water temp is Luke warm at best. If you want to throw your money away this is a place to go do it. Wouldn't recommend this as a prisoner of war camp.

Fireplace didn't work. Holes in walls, walls were dirty, chips and Nick's in multiple pieces of furniture. Staff was helpful though. He helped us get a room at a different place that night.

Such a great place to stay. Cute and on the water. Staff is sweet and it's right in town!

Got to the room and only had one towel, had to go up front to get more. Sink filled up entirely and would not drain, even after 30 minutes, but the pipe underneath the sink had a slow drip that began to pool on the bathroom floor. When we called the front desk, they said nothing could be done about it. The rooms look nothing like the beautiful pictures online. In reality the hotel is run down and customer service is obviously not a priority for the owners. We didn't even stay the night. The view of the river, however, was fantastic and the man at the front desk was very kind.

For the money it was worth it. A little outdated. However the service is awesome. Anything I asked for they accomadated. Continental breakfast was good and easily accessible. Safe walking distance to downtown Helen.

Very nice location. Wonderful place to walk to. Town is just minutes away. Close to Betty's country store and package store.

So when we came here we were hesitant and we just needed a hotel that was pet friendly in the area. This place provided us with a warm room and it was a little small but it was clean and we'll heated. They took us as soon as we came and were very family friendly. They asked many questions to make sure we were okay and having a dog was not an issue. The river is beautiful and even though it isn't luxury it is a casual low cost place to stay. With accurate information and family amenities that make you feel like your welcome.

The greeter is a warm and friendly fellow and very helpful. The rooms are comfortable and we'll keept. Pricing is affordable and the continental breakfast is satisfying!

Down to earth employees. Clean towels and sheets. Old hotel that just needs some tlc to get better ratings.

No complaints. I was nervous after reading all the reviews but was pleasantly surprised. Room was cleaned, Jacuzzi tub very nice, has everything we needed. I realize everyone's experience is different but I feel a portion of the horrible reviews were due to lack of research. Most buildings in this area are old, and this is a private hotel not a fancy chain, so if you are expecting the same you should go to the red roof inn or Hampton. This Hotel is very cute, represents the area well, great view. And priced affordable for a riverfront hotel in the area. We were able to get a riverfront Jacuzzi room for the price of a regular room in town, sounds like a good deal to me!

While the desk clerk was very cordial and welcoming there was NOTHING else positive to say about this establishment. We could've stayed if it had only been slightly outdated but when the extremely uncomfortable mattress is covered in a thick plastic with only a sheet and thin bedspread to keep you warm, that sent us right back out the door. Needs new everything. This hotel is on the river and with a complete overhaul it has great possibilities. Take our advice, book elsewhere. You've been warned.

This motel was horrible. It's kind of cute of the outside but once you walk in its a whole different story. The paint was peeling off the wall; the front door was raggedy and in need of replacement; the security chain-lock on the door was broken and didn't work; my mother put a chair up against the door in order to feel more secure; the bathroom was pitiful and old-looking, the bathroom window was taped up instead of being replaced; there was hair from an unknown person in my bed proving that the sheets had not been changed; and the carpet needed replacing. The only positive thing about this motel is the beautiful view of the river. I could walk out of my room and observe the serene view of the river. I will never ever patron this motel again.

Worst hotel EVER! Had to call police to get a refund. The manager kicked us out of the room when we complained about blood on the sheets. We took pictures and then he came and took the sheets away. When we asked for our money back he refused. Room was FILTHY! He then demanded we leave the property and we had to get police involved. I’m in the military and my wife is 8 months pregnant. You couldn’t pay me to stay here!

Hotel management is pretty nice, but our room had no cable it was nasty and had a bad smell. We did have a view of the river which was pretty nice but over all I would never stay there again, also way over priced just because hurricane Irma victims were trying to stay. Like I said not the best experience. Also beware the breakfast food had mold on it seriously!

Staying down the road but walked by it today and remembered staying there a couple years ago. Great location for watching the river flow by, but they should change the name to "The deferred Maintenance Motel" although deferred is really too strong a word. The room was a total dump. The guy at the counter should be named Shifty, because as others have pointed out, he tried to charge more than what we agreed to over the phone. Everything was tattered, the room stunk, there were insects and the door would not lock. At my wife's insistence, we jammed a chair under the handle, just like in the movies. We still laugh about the experience but wild horses could not drag her to that place again. Avoid at all cost.

This place was terrible! The room was dirty and the door stuck and ended up locking us on the balcony. Our room wasn't riverfront despite the name. The carpet was dirty and stained, the bathroom sink had crud all over it and the bathtub looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. There was stains on the mattress and box spring and on the sheets and pillowcases. The balcony had leftover cigarettes from a previous guest. The TV had stains all over the top of it and there were also stains on the comforter and pillows. We were excited to stay here and we were highly disappointed apon arrival. We will not be staying here again. Not worth the $200 we paid to stay here.

PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE! There is not free Wi-Fi, they don't even have any Wi-Fi. Dude at the desk was an ass. We got locked in our room for 45 minutes, we called the front desk twice for help but there was no answer. This place is not really nice at all! It's dirty and has not been kept up with. Holes in the walls, and the AC unit inside the room didn't even start working til the morning we left! Please don't stay here unless it's your last option!

Check in time wasn't until 3 showed up at 1 with cash in hand for my reservation and the ass at the front seat had already giving our room away! Very rude and the hotel does NOT look the same as the website! Came to the red roof inn instead! They are very pleasant and the rooms are ver clean! So for Hofbrau river front hotel! Spend your hard earned money where people appreciate it!

We're a really laid back group but for us it's about cleanliness and friendliness. We found both here. The manager/owner was kind and helpful. It is walking distance to the Alpine, Helen Village. There is a pool and it's close to cart tracks and tubing.

I checked in on Tuesday and ill leave friday… so far I love it. Great location and the staff is super friendly and make sure we have what we need without asking. Best hotel for the price and ill never stay anywhere else when I come. Love it!

It's a nice hotel. It could be better but I've enjoyed my stay here.

IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ IF YOUR THINKING OF STAYING HERE! Im staying here at the Helendorf River Inn tonight. My first and last time! Advertised to be pet friendly. I was getting ready to call it a night when I noticed my 3 month old pup had a sock in its mouth. Bent down to get it… it was a dirty sock that didn't belong to me with a glass METH PIPE Inside! Took it to the front desk. The clerk was very rude! His reply to what I found was, "what do you want me to do about it?! " Didn't even apologize, nothing! Then took the pipe, slammed the door and went back to where ever he came from! If the staff can't clean a room we'll enough to find a dirty sock on the floor… WITH A METH PIPE WRAPPED IN IT, well really make me think that they even clean at all. I warn anyone that is thinking of staying here to think twice. Could have been a small child to find what my pup found, just as easy. do not stay here!

Wifi sucked, coffee maker had black stuff coming out of it, curtains were broken, bathroom was filthy and the tub drain was clogged so much, when I went to take a shower, the water came above my ankles. When we checked in, a guy was yelling in the lobby that there was blood all over his sheets and the bed had been made on top of the gross sheets instead of changed. We did have a room right on the river which was nice but that's about it. The clerk seemed nice enough also.

I PAID for a non smoking room over the river. We got a smoking room, the account didn't work, they did not change the sheets after the last guests, and refused to give my money back. It was so nasty, I gave up the money to go to another hotel. Do not stay in this disgusting p. O. S. Hotel!

Ok — I admit I requested a first floor, on the river, non-smoking room! well, 2 out of three isn't too bad I guess! EXCEPT — the place was filthy, the room smelled horrible — smoke, urine and? ; walls were peeling really bad; fridge did not cool; tub did not drain; being on first floor — no security lock on door; bathroom door was separating — would never stay there again and never recommend it. The hotel is apparently 2-3 different buildings. One is little newer and nicer but the whole place is dirty and unkept — outdoor carpeting in hallways and stairways shredding and dirty, just overall dirty and would not recommend staying there — not even for the river view in the older part!

I have stayed in several occasions and was pleased. The receptionist was nice and friendly. He was very helpful and made our stay very comfortable. We ask fot extra towels and pillows and recieved them with no problem. Continental breakfast was great and always well stocked. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The river view is awesome. I will be staying there again. I stay 4 or 5 times a year. The only thing I don't like is there is no pool. But the river is nice.

We were told a lower price on the phone then charged quiet a bit more at check in. We paid for three guest and received two towels. I asked the manager the following morning for two towels and he just kept explaining that I could get some when the cleaning crew arrived. Then he asked me when I checking out and I told him as soon as we could shower and pack up. The manager said he thought he had one left and that one per guest is all the maids would leave anyway. The towels along with the bedding, floors and walls were stained badly. Do not stay here.
