Love this family style restaurant. The food is always superb.

We had our son & daughter-in-law's wedding rehearsal dinner last Friday here. Freida and her team did an amazing job. The food was delicious, the service fantastic and everyone enjoyed themselves. Thank you so very much for making this day wonderful for us. Love, The Gaines family❤

Really nice restaurant. We were going home from Helen, Georgia and our friend recommended us to eat there. Looks kind of like a bed and breakfast. They give you alot of food. It's really good.

Chicken was very dry and old tasting. Vegetables were not hot, barely Luke warm. Not worth the $$. It's no longer all you can eat but portioned in bowls. Not planning to return.

Fried chicken was outstanding! Tables spaced apart. Good service. Spent the night in the original inn; nice room, lovely bathroom. Extremely convenient to downtown, free parking too.

Ate at the restaurant, friendly staff, food was good fried chicken and fried okra were top notch. But side dishes were in small dishes for 2 people no more. Also should include 2-3 different desserts not just the 1 for the price.

The dining room serves an excellent meal with family style dining. The servers bring the food to the table and you serve yourself. The food was pretty good and is your typical “meat and 3” fare. However, it is all you can eat.

Stayed overnight at the Smith House in mid-October. So sad, it could not have been for more than one night. Room was immaculate! Staff so pleasant. Had dinner there the night of our stay. It was a Wednesday night, so it was less crowded, which I highly recommend. Staff was exceptional! Very attentive and food was delicious! Then with everyone stuffed, it was only a short walk to our room. Being in downtown, I was simply shocked at how quiet the night was. I wish we could have stayed several days, but we do plan to go back as soon as possible. A great retreat without a long drive. Kudos to The Smith House and the town of Dahlonega! LOVE!

Dinner with 2 friends. This was our first visit so did not know what to expect. This is a country cooking family style restaurant. They bring enough food for everyone and continuously fill the serving dishes until everyone is done. They offer 2 meats for lunch and 3 at dinner and about 7 or 8 sides. The food was excellent. The fried chicken was delicious and the country fried steak was melt in your mouth. The vegetables were fresh and hot. After you have enough that you feel like you are going to explode they bring you strawberry shortcake. The service is excellent from the minute you get there. They have a nice gift shop upstairs and the remains of an old gold mine next to the restaurant.

We had a wonderful stay at The Welch Cottage — King Suite. This room is brand new and it is beautiful, cozy and very spacious. It has its own private entrance and parking. The front desk staff at The Smith House was very friendly and helpful. All in all, next time we visit Dahlonega, we will definitely stay on this property.

First time here. It was an interesting experience. Service was good and the food was all excellent escape the mac and cheese which was very bland and watery. To their credit, they made a fresh batch for us and that was very cheesy. Overall a very unique and nice experience.

The first time I visited The Smith House was on a school field trip, and it was definitely one of the highlights of our class trip. I raved to my family about the food and how absolutely DELICIOUS it was. I've visited with family twice since then, many years later, and the food is still just as delicious and the atmosphere just as warm and inviting. You pay less than $20 for wonderful food that the lovely servers never stop bringing to your table. Their sweet tea is delicious, as are their desserts. I would highly, highly recommend The Smith House to anyone.

Went to the restaurant with a party of 14 and had the best experience. The staff was so attentive and friendly, I was so impressed. The food was excellent. All of your true southern staples, the fried chicken was amazing. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

I was there for a wedding reception dinner. The food was a delicious family style southern food. I would recommend this place for any meal from a family night out to a date night to a big crowd.

Attended a rehearsal dinner here. The staff was great and very helpful, despite our antics. The food was great and the venue was a great spot for the event. If I'm up here in Dahlonega again, I'll definitely be stopping by for dinner!

We were at the Smith House as part of a field trip. We had about 85-90 sixth grade students with us. They were very accommodating and handled it well. They didn't even complain about the fact that three of the kids at my table spilled their drink. Lunch was served family style (big bowls of each item that you pass around the table). We had chicken strips, ham, mac and cheese, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, and rolls. We also had strawberry shortcake for dessert. I wasn't super impressed with the food. It was decent, but nothing special in my opinion. It is nice that they continue to bring as much of each item as you want. The kids ate a lot of mac and cheese and chicken. Overall, it was a good experience.

Food is nothing to brag about… Except the friend chicken and pot roast. Service is mediocre. Atmosphere is cool IF you like old historical things… Which we do.

Not at all what I had expected. Over priced for basic items. Food was cold and not that great. I was disappointed in how the front registers were ran. Ladies were rude and unhelpful. Made mistakes with our group on the amounts. Missed up my aunts credit card by not listening to how shed like the bill split. Just disappointed overall. You pay for a name not food or service. Will pick another place for future reunions.

This is a must-have if you visit Dahlonega. I first went 27 years ago and have been many times. Great place!

The lady working the desk at the Consolidated mines recommended this place and we are beyond grateful she did! It was simply fantastic! Wonderful atmosphere, amazing food and friendly servers! Can’t wait to bring my daddy here for his birthday!

Our church had Valentine's dinner in one of the banquet rooms. There food is AWESOME! Our women's ministry has had dinner there as well. Everything is ABSOLUTELY YUMMY! If you have a chance to eat there, take it. We love it!

Everything was great for the most part. I don't care for creamed corn that is sweet though. I also wasn't wild about their country fried steak.

Very nice inn. Our camping club has had its annual Christmas party here for a few years in a row. We stayed overnight last year and it was very nice. The food is great and I love the family-style service.

We ate our dinner at the Smith House on July 15, 2017. I graduated from Brenau Women's many years ago and had heard of it but somehow never managed to visit. It reminded me a bit of The Dillard House but without the long lines and noise level of so many people in the dining room at once. The staff at The Smith House are so warm, inviting and attentive. They stay busy taking care of their guests. We declined any of the dishes containing pork but didn't miss it with all the other choices. I have to say that the very fresh slaw was one of my favorites. I enjoyed the roast beef. We both loved the fried okra. I wasn't a big fan of the mashed potatoes, mac and cheese and creamed corn. I also did not really like the dinner rolls but the corn bread muffin and cinnamon rolls were good. They were out of pickles. We had a few bowls refilled but were stopping before that uncomfortable feeling creeped up on us both. Something that alarms me is that it didn't appear that take out boxes were used. I felt really bad leaving a platter of chicken breast to be tossed in the trash. It is very interesting to see the gold mine shaft right inside the building. The Smith House is lovely to walk around looking at bits of history. I enjoyed the lobby giftshop, magnet, post cards, a book on Georgia Gold Panning, and a jar of jam for good measure. We would like to return a later date and stay in the historic hotel. We both enjoyed our visit. Thank you Smith House.

I don't usually write reviews but our trip here was exceptional. My wife and I recently had our wedding at the Smith House. The wedding turned out wonderfully thanks to the Smith House. The venue was beautiful and pristine, the food was fantastic as usual, and the service was top notch. Everything was perfect. We also lodged with Smith house. Myself and 4 of the groomsmen (along with their spouses) stayed at the brand new Welch House and it was incredible. We loved the quiet location just off the square (a nice 1-2 minute walk into town). The house was beautiful on the inside and out. All of the bathrooms were beautifully tiled and very nice. Some of the rooms even had a working fireplace! A really nice addition that we all appreciated was that each room of the house had its own air conditioning controls (including the living room). The living room and kitchen were the rooms that we all hung out in the most though. The kitchen was awesome! It was fully stocked with cookware and dishes and anything else we needed. The living room was also perfect for us. It was enormous! There were about 15 people there the night before the wedding playing card games and watching movies on the big screen TV, and we all fit comfortably. Another thing we weren't expecting which came in handy was a laundry room. One place we regretted not spending more time was a really cozy outdoor patio which was in the back of the house. To sum it up we had absolutely everything we needed and more.
