The hotel was very clean, and close to everything you need to see while staying in St. Augustine. I gave 5 stars because the staff was great! Fred made our experience at the hotel extremely pleasant. He was so nice, and has excellent customer service! He even had my 5 year old daughter happy and laughing! Thanks for the great experience, will definitely be back!

We stayed at The Ponce on a Sunday night. The experience was top rate and the accommodations were excellent. The hotel may have been older, but it is up to date in the room features and the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the grounds. All the staff that I talked with were very polite and engaging. The desk clerk gave us a great recommendation for dinner and the breakfast staff was efficient and very charming. There is a train track at the rear of the building and we did hear very muted indication that a train was passing. I think it sounded more like a distant thunderstorm than anything else. The new soundproof windows worked very well. The view to the back was beautiful looking over the river and woodland. I would not hesitate to stay there at anytime that I return to the area and possibly even seek it out if I were within 20 miles of St Augustine.

Comfy bedding! this felt like a luxury hotel I will definitely recommend it and will stay there again. It felt so safe they were always staff members everything was so well lived and the back deck with a view of the river and the trains which we love was a wonderful addition. Right next door to the Old Town Trolley Tours Depot where we were able to purchase our tickets for the day. This hotel is also surrounded by several restaurants including a Zaxby's right next door, a Pizza Hut, McDonald's, Denny's, and an excellent barbecue place called Smoke and Dee's which is just two doors down from the hotel. If you really want you can literally walk to the old jail. Pool area had nice seating and even covered areas if you need to get out of the Sun. Absolutely loved the bathroom with its rain shower head. Overall this was an awesome place to stay.

Awful. Floors in room were filthy. Smelled like mildew. Beds were uncomfortable. The breakfast was a well balanced meal of Little Debbie’s. There was a bum sleeping by the pool one morning and a staff members children who were dropped off while she worked the next. Towels were like sandpaper and paper thin. Placed in room we didn’t book. Extra credit card charges. If you’re looking for run down motel qualities, book here.

Excellent stay here at the Ponce. Hotel was fresh, clean, comfortable, and modern. Everything from the check-in and staff to the quality of the rooms was very good — Excellent. It is clear the place was recently renovated because everything looks and feels brand new. They definetly spent a lot of money — the beds are nice and comfortable, the rooms have their own ice makers inside of them, the floors, showers, and walls are all exotic marble, the paint is fresh … bottom line this place was extremely nice & relaxing. The best part? Beautiful early mornings and sunsets on the large dock overlooking the river on the back of the property. THANK YOU PONCE! Made my business trip seem more like a mini vacation! I will definitely be back 1000%!

Wasn’t a bad place to stay but it’s not really what you see online. The pool area is under construction and the laundry room is under construction. The pool looks rough and the laundry is advertised on the website and can’t be used at all. Which was a huge reason we stayed was because we are staying so long and needed to clean out clothes. Also there was an awful smell to the room. I felt like all my clothes smelled like it. Not sure what it was but almost a moldy smell.

They are making the best of what they have. The hotel itself is definitely dated, but the flooring, shower and TV have all been nicely updated. The room even had a pellet ice maker in it! Breakfast was alright. They had egg patties, sausage, waffles, cereal, breads, juice, etc. The pool was nice. There is a train that runs behind the hotel though.

Great place! Super nice staff, great location close to historic places, food and fun. Nice view from the back with a patio nice to sit and visit. Great breakfast, quite and relaxing. Spa and pool. I recommend this to travelers and locals alike.

Hotel is clean and staff is friendly, that is the good. The rest not so much. There is a very very busy street you have to cross and the walk is a good 20 minutes to get to downtown St Augustine. Beds are hard as a rock. Both the toilet paper and the towels are thin and scratchy. The breakfast was okay but the coffee was undrinkable. All in all not worth the $. I'd rather stay at an older hotel closer into town.

This very beautiful hotel and its rooms are in very good condition, much cleanliness and very professional their workers, I hope to return soon and visit again the city that despite being the oldest city in the United States is very beautiful, interesting and safe.

My boyfriend and I booked this hotel and wondered why the rating were so low. Our bad for not taking the hint. We booked a king bed no smoking for $150 and upon arrival the desk guy looked at us like we were stupid and said the only rooms available are double beds in smoking rooms. I tried to be understanding and suggested checking out the room because maybe it wouldn't be so bad. I said, "maybe the room won't smell that bad. " He rolled his eyes and then said, "it's a smoking room. " We checked out the room. He was right it did smell but not just of cigarettes. Beyond that it was dirty and had women's hair on the floor. I work at a hotel myself so I understand things slip by the overall experience was horrible. It could've been better if the staff was at least apologetic or friendly. For reference the date was March 3 and it was between 5 and 6 pm.

Great hotel for the price. The rooms and grounds were clean and immaculate. The staff was friendly. The breakfast wasnt amazing but better than most Continental breakfast I've had. I would definitely stay here again based on the price and proximity to the places we would want to go.

We have stayed at this motel under several different names over the years. This is their best iteration yet. Their rooms are spacious with several amenities. There was the typical hotel coffee maker, a lighted makeup mirror, and a nice shower with a standard shower head and a handheld one. They even had an ice maker in the room. One downside was the toilet. It had a weak flush action. Also, I prefer a carpeted floor but our room didn't have any carpet.

First night here and so far so good. This is for sure a motel but well kept and clean. It is a 5 minute drive from the fort and historical area. We were very well accommodated for with a small reptile pet and was able to check in early thanks to the manager, Renee. Also, Avea at the front desk was very kind and helpful. She not only answered our questions but genuinely had a conversation with us. She is remarkable! From the short interaction she definitely has management potential and well, a very bright future! Thank you!

I enjoyed my stay here. The location is good. It is close to down town and to all the sight seeing places. Next to it is the Old Town Trolley and we could hop on the train and not have to worry about moving our car from the hotel. I had stayed at this hotel before and they have remodeled it a lot since my last stay in 2014. The rooms and lobby look great. They are kid friendly. They had fake snow out for the kids and they were making and serving waffles for breakfast.

A great St. Augustine stay. Large clean rooms with a welcoming lobby. They have their own parking lot which is very important in St. Augustine with parking being so hard to come by. Just a short walk to the fort, and everything you'd want to see while in town. Would love to return.

My family and I have stayed in this hotel many times before and we are all very impressed with the renovations and improvements that they have made in the rooms, lobby, pool area, and the whole atmosphere in the hotel. Even the Wi-Fi is much stronger and better. The breakfast selection is diverse and enjoyable. We highly recommend the Ponce for a great property and a good price.

Not quite done. Great prices. Backs up to water that is beautiful. Close to downtown. When completely renovated will be awesome.

The Ponce Hotel was a delightful place to stay. The room was clean and spacious, complete with a good quality flat screen television, microwave, and refrigerator. The complimentary breakfast was excellent, much better than most places. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the view of the St. John river was spectacular. We will definitely stay there again when we visit St. Augustine.

It's unfortunate.
We entered and the first thing I corroborate is that the water of the sink is stagnant and does not drain, I put the complaint to the person of concierge and tells me that it is alone and that I can not provide tools to fix it myself. After that we are durmiéndonos and feel an atrocious and deafening noise I look out the window and a few five meters appears a train with two machines and an endless row of wagons. After that at 40 minutes approx. Pass another train (or the same), not only making the noise of the train but honking, no one warned us on the front desk of this. And to top it off, my son gets up and finds a cockroach walking through his slippers.
The hotel is beautiful, the place where it was put is very bad, the maintenance seems to also and the cleanliness too.
Oh! The ice machine is not working.

We are staying in this hotel every year. The stuff is very friendly and nice. Joel was very helpful and professional. Room was clean with the new flat screen TV and the ice maker machine! We aslo loved the outside deck and LED LIGHTS at night time. Thank you to the owner for making our stay present and enjoyable!

Excellent location close to the historic sites of intrest. Nice clean room, great shower, large flat screen TV, good A. C. Loved the in room ice machine. Pool area was excellent. Would use again and would recommend.

The hotel is located right on the banks of the San Sebastian River and Flagler's railroad tracks off Ponce De Leon. Rooms are nice and clean and they are finishing renovations to their rooms. The pool area rooms are the only problem with noise late at night if you want any sleep due to people in the pool past their closing hours. The staff is very helpful and pleasant. Trolley stop is right next door. Breakfast was really good especially the waffles. Would definitely recommend them for a getaway.

Loved our stay here and the service and staff were great. I left 5 of my necklaces here and did not realize it until we were already at our next hotel in Tampa, I called and they found them and put them in the safe so I could pick them up on our way home. They also offered to mail them back to my home in ohio but I picked them up to save them shipping would defiantly recommend this hotel to anyone. And we will definitely be back.

We were very impressed with this property. From the moment we walked in the front door. We were greeted warmly and treated very well. The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable and the shower was amazing. The price could not be beat. The hotel has been under renovations and we were concerned with the previous reviews. I'm happy to say that our experience was excellent. I highly recommend this property.

They are working very hard to renovate the hotel into a contemporary place in the historic district. The lines and colors in the rooms are beautiful. The beds are comfortable and the room is very clean. Those who work here are very friendly. The one thing I would suggest is to have an iron and board in the room. I can't wait to come back!

The room was clean, nice. Breakfast was perfect, very well kept, and not having to venture out in the morning, worked out great. Staff was amazing, helpful and kind, very friendly, was seriously over the top. Wonderful customer service. Would stay again. Price per night was decent.

We stayed in a basic 2 queen bed room there in the summer of 2015 and loved it. Clean rooms, soft beds, great pool, river view, good breakfast, and free movie rentals. It's only a few blocks walk from the historic down town. It's the cleanest and closest hotel you'll find with such a good price. We already reserved our room for the 4th of July… we are within walking distance of the firework show and don't have to fight car traffic and parking :)

Booked the hotel last minute. The rooms were decent and the stay was relaxing. Very convient for food and entertainment in the downtown area. The hotel offers free dvd rentals to their guest. Not a wide selection, but we rented 3 times in our 2 night stay. The also offered deals to local attractions. The breakfast was delicious. But most importantly the customer service was great. Thank you all for making our anniversary so relaxing.

Overall good stay. Room was clean but could have used some repair work. Nothing major though. Staff was wonderful. I found a cheaper rate on Orbitz and they allowed me to price match. Saved me the hassle of booking online and waiting the 20 minutes for the reservation to transfer over. The water level on the jacuzzi had fallen and it wasn't being heated properly. They had some one come out and look at it in a timely manner. They're pet friendly and only a short driving distance from all the major attractions. Really nice sunsets from the back. But the hotel is located right in front of train tracks. I'm a heavy sleeper so the trains passing through didn't wake me. Pleasant experience and I would definitely come back if I'm ever in the area again.

It's nothing too fancy, but the room was clean. Just beware that there are trains from the FEC that pass on by the west side of the building at all hours of the day, and those woke me up through the middle of the night. However, I wouldn't let that defer me from staying here again. I also appreciated the service at the breakfast! The staff I had at breakfast was so wonderful especially to ask me if I needed anything and how my meal was, so props to that. :)

The employees were super friendly and greatly helpful. The room was decent and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was a typical continental and lacked in flavor, but there is a tasty diner across the street that sells a great breakfast.

Came here over Spring break with my family! It was within a great distance between points of interest; the historic sites and the St. Augustine mall. The place was clean and comfortable! The owner was the friendliest! He actively helps almost every morning with breakfast and is a great conversationalist. Very homely and put together. We're coming back to this hotel!

Old outdated our door was so rusty, dented and barely opened and closed. When I walked in the "non-smoking" room I could smell smoke in the room was not clean smell old and musty. When I lay down on the bed and looked up at the ceiling and saw cobwebs all along the ceiling. Breakfast left a lot to be desired, the orange juice was so watered-down it didn't look orange. I had The waffle which was fresh cooked so it wasn't bad Filthy not dirty is my word of the day never again.

It was great! Didn't experience not one of the bad reviews! Check in was easy and Garry was so nice and funny. Great location. Easy to get to main attractions (10 min drive). We got to get a movie from their "red box" free for the kids to watch at bed at time. I recommend staying here.

Had a little bit of an annoyance when we first arrived with rooms not being ready, really not a big deal. Staff was very friendly, being able to grab a free dvd to watch when we came back for the night was great. Breakfast was a good selection and rooms were clean. It's located a little far from the old city if you plan on walking, but it was more than $100 less a night than the other hotels a couple blocks closer so I didn't mind paying to park in the garage.

If you like the FEC this is the place to stay. Great staff. My only complaint was the Wi-Fi connection was a little slow.

No hot water. Stayed two days and the best I got was a lukewarm shower. We were in room 104, and when I notified management about the situation, I was offered a shower in room 106. It was also lukewarm and not clean (long black hair on yhe shower wall! Among others. This was tho only hotel with space left when we were there over New Years so we made do. Not a very pleasant experience. Staff was kind and our own room was pretty clean, but we were very underwhelmed.

Was a disaster! No Wi-Fi. I had to replace broken TV not maintenance. No water pressure had to take bathes. Toilet was not attached to the floor. Bath tub faucet was not caulked had light coming through the crack. Had to prop a chair against the ac unit so it would not rattle. Was locked out of room for over an hour because the lock quit working. What more can I say? If I was you I would not stay here that is for sure.

A horrible experience. We rented a room for the weekend after New Years. The front desk staff was not friendly. The older man checking us in was rude. As we pulled up to our room the maid (a young man) was cleaning the room next to us. The mattress was bare and exposed, it was orange, yellow and covered in stains. There were no other rooms in town to change too. The following morning when we tried to shower there was NO HOT WATER. The front desk sent the maintenance man who confirmed we had no hot water and would let the desk know. Upon checking out I complained. The owner / manager told me "all rooms have hot water". Not mine, I said. He refused to look for the maintenance man that went to the room and called me a liar. He then said, " besides we do not advertise rooms with hot water, just rooms " he had already charged my credit card and refused to refund us.

Would stay here again. They are pet friendly and are near downtown. They do have free Wi-Fi, an ice machine and breakfast.

Very, very, nice staff. They go above and beyond what any other business would do to make you feel like family. Home away from home. clean rooms. Close to the historic district. Over all fun place to stay.

We just got back for a quick getaway with my wife. The hotel was very beautiful in the historic area district. The nice part it was close to downtown area but not near the crowded noisy area. I loved the pillows on the bed and the breakfast in the morning was very good to get us going. The front desk staff was great in recommending a really restaurant Ned's kitchen had the Hemingway fish. We will definitely be back he soon. Great for a change of scenery.

To say it was like a Motel 6 at a Hilton price would be an insult to Motel 6. The motel and the rooms are very dated. There is no Wi-Fi offered what so ever. The ice machine was broken. All the water in the room was tainted by salt. The small in room coffee service was unusable because the coffee tasted so strongly of salt. The room had the smallest refrigerator I have ever seen, it would barely hold a six pack of soda. The Days Inn across the street would have been a better choice. On the positive side, the staff was very friendly.

BUGS, BUGS AND MORE BUGS! I bet we killed 3 spiders, 2 cock roaches and a couple of red ants. There were several problems with the room itself. The Heat Lamp in the bathroom could not work as the knob was missing, I tried drying my hair and the receptacle kept blowing. The other receptacles in the room were so loose my cell phone charger wouldn't even stay in. They did not tell us the hotel sits right next to an active train track but they did tout that they are in the historic district. It is actually about five miles from the historic district. The staff all seemed nice enough but when we went to check out and shared some of these things with the desk clerk she seemed shocked. I'm sure we aren't the only ones killing bugs as I see numerous mentions on other peoples reviews. I sure will be marking this Quality Inn off my list of possibilities to return to.
