I picked this hotel because I heard it's in the city's upper east side neighborhood, called the MiMo District (Mid-Modern). This entire strip, from the corner of 61st Street & Biscayne Boulevard and up about 20 blocks, is peppered with really cool 1950s-60s buildings that have all been renovated into boutique shops, kitschy courtyard night spots, and a totally eclectic mix of restaurants. You could eat a different type of cuisine every night for weeks — from homestyle to upscale. Argentinian, Italian, Puerto Rican, Venezuelan, Thai, American, vegetarian, as well as a couple amazing pizza joints and, well, fast food if you must. But inside the inn is where I was most impressed. It's got just 12 rooms, so the public spaces are cozy and quiet. And then you step into your room and you're like, whoa, this is it! There are little Zen-theme touches everywhere you look. Little Buddha statues and special pillows accent the rich dark wood furniture, headboard, and louvered windows, making this one of refreshing and relaxing spaces I've ever stayed in. I had a fridge, microwave, even a cooking surface and plates and silverware. The shower was way cool how it rains down on you. And you get two clean white bathrobes in the closet. The online self check in was a little disconcerting at first but after I did it, I realized this is really a smart way to do it. Virtual self check in — who knew. The price was the most surprising part. It's a deal. Anyhow I rambled on here but I was blown away by this place.
