My first feeling as I walked into the yard of Holden House was un-kept. It doesn't look anything like the photo with the horse drawn carriage in front, btw, the carriage isn't there anymore. We entered the Holden House and what a greeting we got. The employee Sherrie or Shari, something like that. She says "You're early, we have a schedule around here, check in is between 4pm and 6pm". We had just arrived from The Woodlands Texas, a little north of Houston, it was about 2:30pm. We were tired, after driving so far from home, but I ask her, do you want us to leave and come back later? She says, "No just have a seat and wait right here". The downstairs, was charming. Our room however was Not, "Cripple Creek" it was outdated cheap looking, not outdated charming, and there was no soft place to sit or lay. The TV was touching the ceiling and very uncomfortable to watch. The love seat was the worse thing I ever sat on, very hard and lumpy. One of the employees said yes we've heard that before, when I told her we were leaving a day early, because our backs hurt so much. The shower was outdated cheap, not outdated charming, it almost scalded us as we had a heck of a time trying to adjust the water. I learned that I like bright white towels, and sheets, not faded dark blue, and colored sheets. The other guests, the wonderful breakfasts, the two really nice employees (unfortunately we cannot remember their names) the wine cheese and crackers, was the best part of the whole two days and nights that we stayed. We were charged for the last day and night that we weren’t there, btw. Oh, my Hubby just reminded me, during the cheese and crackers one of the employees asked us, "Was the temperature in your room ok"? My Husband answered honestly, "Well it was a little on the chilly side". The OWNER, Sally, says “Oh of course! It's never just right, it's always too cold, or too hot, just like Goldilocks"! This was said in front of other guests. I thought wow, what a rude response and from the owner. I sometimes miss being in Colorado, one of my Granddaughters was born there, my Hubby and I were married there, and we owned an eight acre little ranch there, with two donkeys and a Llama. But, after all the natural disasters, and fires in and around Colorado Springs, the bad food around town, the unfriendly people, I felt like Davy Crockett when he told the politicians in Tennessee… ”You may all go to Hell, and I will go to TEXAS! "
