Music City Hotel - Home of the San Francisco Music Hall of Fame Hotel

I have lived in a private room for 8 months here. The staff are friendly and helpful also this is central location to many of city's beautiful places by foot. Had a wonderful time and made loads of friends being here. Highly recommend for short and long stays while you're in one of the vibrant cities in world. And if you're a musician they do have free rehearsal studios if you stay here with events happening from time to time. The place is getting expanded and renovated which I hope will bring more good vibes. Thank you.

Not too bad. The hotel is ok, clean and well organized, but that's not a hostel to me. No room for sharing moments with other people, no kitchen, no breakfast. Too bad to me I was looking for a place to meet people… But the studio is nice and free. If you are a musician, think to take your stuff for playing!

I stayed here in April 2018 and I want to say how great my stay was! I hope to be back when the museum is open and see what else has changed even though the rooms are great already. The pictures are a true representation of the rooms, unlike what you get sometimes even at big name hotels. The staff was super friendly and went above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Their genuine hospitality and kindness was greatly appreciated. I am not a musician and will never be as cool as one but the staff made me feel like a rock star!

The place itself is fine but the area around it is filled with homeless people. Plenty of restaurants in the neighborhood. Good place for musicians and people who like music. The pace is clean, but there is no common area and no kitchen. The value for what you get is good for San Francisco it's the cheapest you'll find anywhere in the city.

This affordable hostel is located in a vibrant neighborhood in the heart of the City. It is well-maintained with exceptional housekeeping services. The front desk staff are friendly and knowledgeable and ready with suggestions and recommendations to fit any need. They go the extra mile to ensure a comfortable stay. The rooms are clean and spacious and have a desk with chair, and a bar sink and fridge. The closet is ample and has lockers to lock valuables in. The comfy bedding and thick soft bath towels are provided. The decor is rock n roll chic and will have you feeling like a rock star (or at least a roadie) on a well deserved break from the tour. The rehersal studios downstairs ensure the 'beat goes on'. This exceptional property never disappoints. Best hostel in the City!

Honestly, I was suprised to like it so much! Doors sre thin so it's loud if someone is in the hall, but the hotel rooms were nice and clean, the bathrooms decent. We had the queen shared bathroom which was great, and our friend rented the suite and it was massive and great quality! They were good about storage before check in. Great place to lay your head!

Stayed for four nights. Clean rooms, friendly staff, free coffee, good location. Shared bathrooms were non issue. Jam spaces below are fun too!

Don't know San Francisco neighborhoods to compare but buses and bus stops to airport, SFMoMA, ferry bldg and pier 33 for Alcatraz have all been easy walks. Top bunk is a clambor to get in and out of but 3 roommates not traveling together never returned from Saturday night revelry so I had a private for the price of a dorm. Staff has been surprisingly knowledgeable on a wide assortment of questions like which aisle in drugstore to find travel size toothpaste.

Just okay. Kinda weird vibe but helpful staff. Felt more like staying in a cousin’s guest room than a hotel. Good for young adults. Not a family oriented hotel. Be prepared to go up several flights of stairs.

Location is relatively safe. Shared non-adjoining bathrooms. There are very steep stairs in the hotel to reach each floor, could be an accessibility issue for some.

I attended a show at the music rehearsal space below the hotel. The building is in a quiet space of the neighborhood and is next to a French language and cultural school.

The door bell does not work, if you don't have mobile american you can not call the number provided and you have to wait for someone. When we got up above us attends to a woman and makes us wait a good while, finally handed us two keys for the room, which is upstairs and we have to climb a few more stairs. Before you head out to the street, we check that the card works, the woman says that sometimes doesn't work and that we have to try 5 to 10 minutes. Very edge answer that will not be all day making keys for us. Very unpleasant and not recommended.

It's really cute. It's very laid back and seems to have a very friendly crowd, both guests and staff. My room had its own bathroom but some do not. The water got nice and hot and stayed that way through my marathon showers. There are apples in a bowl by the entrance to snack on on the way in or out of the hotel. You can tell the owners take pride and have a profound emotional investment in their venture and I really wish them the best of luck. I will stay here and recommend it to my friends gladly.

The room size was okay. They were able to accommodate for my last minute check in. Only problem was opening the front entrance. My key didn't work for that and I saw couple people standing outside after 12 because they couldn't get in and front desk was closed so they were locked out. However it was pretty good size for the cost and if I need to go again I would.

Super cool room! Room was clean and comfortable. Place has kind of a hostel vibe. We had an awesome time.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I specifically booked the room with the big Janis Joplin picture above the bed. And when I came in there was only one small Janis Joplin picture on a sidewall. I'm a huge Janis Joplin fan so I was looking forward to having her watch over me sleep tonight. It's all right though, the spirit is still here. I can hear the band playing downstairs. I feel like I'm in the midst of life and creativity!

I was shocked this place even existed. Reminded me of a smaller and more independent version of the Hotel Zaza in Uptown Dallas. Themed rooms, and literally only a few rooms, tucked aside in the Tendernob. It's one of the easiest places to overlook I think I've ever been familiarized with. I could picture it as a good little starvation retreat. In fact I was there in similar light.

$55/night after tax for the cheapest room (6 male bunk bed). Pros: -Close to bars and brunch venues -Provides towel, soap, and Shampoo -Fruits and coffee/tea Cons: -Only two showers per floor. -Bit far from Bart/metro and Mission -Prices have gone up Used to go by the name "Encore" but they have changed their name (and prices, for the worse). Stayed here 3 times. Haven't noticed any difference over the past two years other than the rates going up.

Hip little hotel in the haven of downtown San Fran. Chic vibe with a red carpet feel interior. Rooms are nice and the reception staff were very helpful. Free apples and coffee in the foyer which I certainly took advantage of. Great location if you're here to see more than just the bay. Toilet next door was clogged with a huge steamer but apart from that this cute little bungalow gets 5 stars from me.

Pay for what you get. Solid rooms, nice staff and nice clean, private bathrooms. The rooms are nice and cosy and the beds are comfortable. Some people might have an issue with bands rehearsing late at night but I'm a musician myself so it's nice to be around. Although I didn't stay here myself I had no trouble sneaking in the use the showers, so 5 stars from me.

Best value for the money. Old, but clean. Perfect place for musicians — there is a rehearsal-studio in the basement! lower-level rooms might be a bit noisier. Especially room.

TL;DR: I had quite a bad experience with this place. If you chose to go here I hope you have a better experience than I did, but I found them unprofessional and irresponsible. Longer version: I booked for three nights online. 1. They had no one at the desk at 11:30 pm. My flight was delayed and I got in later than expected and all I wanted to do was go to bed, but I couldn't get to my bed because they had no one at the desk, no one answering their phone, and their "night security" line went straight to voicemail. I book a room at a nearby place and go to sleep. 2. First thing the next morning I go back to Encore but no one is at the desk at 8:15 am. Is anyone ever at the desk? What kind of business doesn't man their desk? (Apparently they open at 9 am. ) 3a. I go back at 4 or 5 pm to check in. The desk manager is in (! ), but tells me to sit down and spends twenty minutes (literally — — I was counting minutes) talking to the previous customer. Of course the desk worker was being helpful to them, but there ended up being a line of a bunch of people piling up behind them and the worker failed to recognize this. 3b. Once she's finally done with the previous customers I try to check in and I say I'd like to pay for the two nights I plan on staying, not paying for the one that I missed because they didn't have anyone at the desk. Rather than being apologetic (even in the least), she tells me that I will have to pay for all three because "you made a commitment". 3c.

We booked in advance from L. A. Rdieses hotel. Because of the low price and the appealing photos on the Internet.
When I took the first step into the hotel I got queasy feeling.
Had I let myself to be seduced by fancy photos to a flophouse?
Does the ill-tempered young lady in room 106 where no bed but for a desk is really for the hotel?
Why it stinks here so?
A short time later, all my questions were answered. Yes, Yes and felt blanket.
In the Internet gutaussehnde room for 2 people with a Queen size bed (in which you could barely walk before we a bed — to the even build and for $15 plus tax the night — got) saw something different out in reality, namely shit.
Long story short — a night more poorly than right slept with fear of mushrooms because felt that the next day the wide locate in a beautiful Airbnb apartment.
I've been to hostels that were beautiful, even in East Germany.
Would definitely not recommend!

The hotel is in a great location, very near a bus stop and in easy walking distance of downtown and other areas. The room itself is no frills, but comfortable. We did not have any issues with noise.

The rooms are nice and the Hostel is located in a great area. Upon arrival we had guest still in our room and did not receive much help for the staff. Eventually the situation was resolved but it made for a stressful first day. Besides the initial frustration it is a very nice hostel and environment.

Great value for the price though it's not as warm and inviting as some hostels I've been to. If you're a musician it's wonderful because practice space is included in your rate for during the day. There is a PA in the rehearsal room. And there is absolutely no free parking. You can park on the street after the meters stop charging. That's about it.

The worst hostel ever. The supervisor was incompetent and did not do her job. Cooking in the room and a woman set off smoke detector. The staff played it off and talked down to two of us who complained. Very noisy. Bad location. Under construction. The woman gave my money back but got nasty with me on the way out. She passive aggressively asked me if I was writing a bad review when I was trying to find another place to stay that night. This place is very far from all cool places in San Fran. Do not stay here.

Cheap Hostel for the conditions of San Francisco. Didn't feel to terribly comfortable, But it was better. The room and also the Restrooms were cleaned every day thoroughly. Yourself in the room, it stank of something. The only negative I noticed is that the Band has rehearsed every day from approx. 19-23 o'clock. This is what we could hear in our room very well (as if you had played next to us). Parking there is not itself, but beside the Hotel there is a Parking garage, Which is monitored is equal to. Not quite so cheap, at $22.50 the day. The street there are coffee shops and Restaurants are just around the corner.

Unsafe, the environment is not good, the girls go the best are not selected, more suitable for boys to live, the toilet is not in the room… but the reception people is very good,

Loved it! Great price (I came off-season, 6-person shared girls room), BIG cushy clean comforters, also cushy towels, lots of space, clean, big bathroom, kitchen in the room (although roommate cooking breakfast at 6am was a little annoying for sleeping in), closet space, small lockers (I prefer bigger lockers — they were good for valuables but too small for my big laptop), super friendly nice staff, very helpful to any questions or needs, cute hostel overall, slightly shady neighborhood, but some cool young bars nearby. Definitely will come here next time I'm in town!

Are quite neat, good decoration and also care and price, location also helps to be very central, what I don't like is that there is a common room and the rooms are very small, the wi fi did not give me problems ever.

Great hostel, but very expensive.

If you are in the city to explore and enjoy all that SF has to offer and not to sit in your hotel all day, this will work great for you. I stayed here for 3 nights in a private room with the shared bathrooms and I had a great experience. The location is super good for the price. It is a little close to the tenderloin but it is overall a pretty safe area. I was alone and I still felt safe. My room was clean and it was a great place to lay my head at night. It was a great experience and I would stay here again when I'm back in the city.

Bad smell in the rooms and poor standard overall. Really bad Wi-Fi. Band rehearses in the same building every evening…

Even if you have your own private room, this is nothing more than a hostel. Room was decent enough but hardly any TV channels. The shared bathrooms are poor. There were two on my floor, one had no hot water and the other one, as a result, was always in use. So, really hard to actually have a shower in this place I found. Area is decent enough, about a twelve minute walk to Union Square. But also a 12 minute walk to the Tenderloin area, so seriously do not get lost. Another major downside to this location is parking. You have to park in the multistorey garage which although conveniently is right next door, is not cheap. If you plan to stay here for several days and need to dump a car, expect to pay about $50-60 to do so. Given the location and price, this is not too bad. Oh yeah, and be prepared for the noise. There's some sort of jazz club downstairs and on some nights this would go on til late. You can't sleep until it stops, it's that loud.
