Reviews of Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa 4*
Got to our room to a busted balcony door, wall paper peeling, dirty bath tub and it’s just overall run down. Customer service was not helpful, being moved to another room and losing the amenities we were promised. On top of that we have to pack up and move losing time to go to the beach and spend time with family. Came here for my daughter’s birthday and am so bummed it’s turning out like this. We have stayed at the Bahia and absolutely loved it, was hoping for a similar experience but unfortunately that is not what we got.
They treat you as though, You are their only guest! Staff is fabulous!
Rooms are incredibly outdated and upkept considering the room rate. Location is perfect right by then ocean. Some of the customer service was questionable however, some staff were also excellent and helpful. Crazy expensive really for the quality but a very unique experience.
The hotel rooms are quite outdated and have several shortcomings (ie. Closet doors and drapes that need replacing. A barely functional kitchenette. ). That being said, if you view the room as just a place to sleep and you don’t mind paying $500+ per night for that, then the location was fabulous and you will enjoy yourself.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone, especially with the greatest atmosphere this company has with the outstanding customer service performance given by Mr. Marvin whom has spectacular knowledge and I could tell you more but it's something you won't experience anywhere else! great job Marvin and I'll be back again soon enough!
The location was great! Their garden is wonderful! But the rooms need upgrading and renovations.
This resort has the best view of the beach the facility where amazing the wait staff was very kind and gracious. Im going back to Texas and let every body know about this hidden jewel I give the resort a 5 star review.
Did a day spa and enjoyed the pool after our spa treatment! Amazing time. Service at the spa and the bar was outstanding. See you next time!
Perfect location in Mission Bay. Love the grounds and location to the beach. Real fast was amazing — eggs Benedict. The Staff were all friendly and fast to react when the air in our room wasn’t working and we needed more towels. I will say the rooms and bathroom need a facelift — ie new carpet new bathroom floor and shower wasn’t working quite right. I was here 10 years ago and a few other times and I’m thinking uh oh — it’s time to upgrade. I would still come back and try the spa.
This place is OK. The location, beach and pool are all incredible. The rooms are VERY meh. We got upgraded to a tower suite which was spacious but still outdated to the 90s at best. For $450+ per night, I’d expect a nicer experience. This isn’t Reno.
Very family friendly hotel and easy access to everything.
Although the room facilities were less than great, the resort made up for it with amazing views, great onsite entertainment and a great location to take in some awesome ocean/beach time. My family of 11 had a great time at this resort.
The Oceania has a beautiful setting, delicious menu and amazing staff. Thank you, Debbie, for taking good care of our family tonight.
Just checked in and having a blast already. The grounds are beautiful. Tropical atmosphere. Heated pool. Definitely recommend.
Enjoyed our stay there. The staff was awesome, the grounds are amazing and the food excellent!
Tropical, friendly vibes, beautiful views, very accommodating!
Beautiful, clean, friendly resort! Had a fantastic time!
A great atmosphere and a great place to relax.
Absolutely gorgeous! The room was very clean and spacious. We were upgraded to a bay view and the view was breathtaking.
It was an amazing stay. I got a gorgeous view of the ocean and PB. They have a parrot area, coy pond waterfall and duck area. Plus near Mission Bay and the beach. Room service was great.
Super clean friendly staff And great courteous security his name I think was Albert.
Beautiful. Excellent service, amazing views couldn’t be better.
Kelley at the front desk and is super sweet. Checking in was a breeze and this place is super pet friendly. The grounds are BEAUTIFUL! Lush landscaping and ponds. We were super excited about the beach view and didn’t expect the courtyard! Which is AMAZING!
We had a wonderful stay! Perfect location in the tower. Amazing food, drinks, service. Beautiful tropical grounds. Would definitely return.
We recommend the higher floors in the tower with bay views, there is also a wonderful view of the ocean. The view is great, great at night as well as everything is lit up. Their restaurant is very nice friendly, friendly waitress and great food. So many things to do. We enjoyed bike riding along the bay, the evening Cruise was great last time we came. Sunday night movie on the grass for the kids. We could also see it from our room. We also rented a boat. There are many more things to do. It’s also close to other parks and attractions.
Private beach and friendly staff. Thank you so much Kyle Oyama for your hospitality.
Perfect getaway! great service and atmosphere!
Beautiful!, Clean!, Great Customer Service! Great Food!
My second time May & June can't wait for my 3rd Time! Beautiful Beach…
Umbrellas and chairs provided
very clean grounds
employees very kind
just a great place.
Very beautiful big suites friendly helpful staff.
Hospitality and great service. Grounds are gorgeous. Steps away from Mission Bay and Pacific Ocean.
Great location right on the bay and a block from the ocean close by shops and restaurants the 5th time I stayed here and will be back again. Love the luau they have in the summer months.
Great experience, wonderful staff, well manicured tropical landscape, very clean. Rooms in the tower could use some updating and paying $27 for parking is a bit annoying. You can park on the street but with a baby it's too much hassle.
The staff are all pleasant and good mannered especially the staff in the dinning area. A lovely friendly welcome in the morning from Blanca showing us to our seats. We have had excellent service from the staff especially Audrey and Venus making us feel special. This is our 10th visit and sure we will be back again as we love San Diego and the Catamaran.
Had a delicious breakfast outside with excellent service, great food and an amazing time!
Very nice staff.
Great views!
Beautiful place! The staff went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. The grounds are gorgeous and the views from the bay suites are stunning! We will definitely be back!
The amazing staff at the Catamaran made our wedding day extraordinary. They were so kind and every detail was perfect!
Beautiful location and surroundings! Our room was spacious with a fantastic view. Grounds are lush with greenery, flowers, fish and birds. The beachside is serene and clean. The restaurant seating all overlooks the water. Everything is beautiful. Also a great location walking distance to the oceanside beach.
Excellent customer service during our entire stay. Our children had so much fun and had great activities to keep them busy!
This place is fun, friendly and cool.
Great experience at this beautiful hotel.
We spent a week here and I don’t have any complaints. The front desk staff were helpful and nice and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The walk up to the mission bay and only having to cross the street to the Pacific Ocean was awesome. I highly recommend!
The spa is amazing! Nice place to relax and unwind. The grounds remind me of Kauai.
Our second time staying at the Catamaran and we always enjoy our stay. The rooms are spacious and clean. Absolutely gorgeous property and great staff. Best place to stay in mission bay!
Visually very nice hotel and nice amenities. However everything seems old. The roof has visible patchwork, the TV remote seems to be from 1992 and no bathroom power outlets. There are things like radio with a few charging ports and power station. Price I paid was reasonable for a late booking with wedding group discount. The views can be nice of the tropical area and of San Diego if on a high floor. Food options are typical and when I went to the "quick" food place in the morning in the lobby there was a long line that took a while but it was Saturday.
The Catamaran is awesome. We live in the neighborhood and it's a very welcoming environment. Had dinner tonight at Moray's. It was busy due to it being Labor Day weekend and the service suffered. The food was as good as usual which isn't amazing but pretty good. We always recommend a visit even if you don't stay there.
This is a very popular hotel, however it has not been modernized and is quite old. Our wireless internet connection was poor. On the positive side, staff was very helpful. $62 for Sunday brunch was so crazy, we left. Overall food was good, grounds clean and they had free outdoor movies for the kids.
This is a decent hotel, a little pricey but gets the job done. The place is dated, but the location makes up for it. The staff is super friendly and very helpful; help comes quick when it's requested. It's backside is right on Mission Bay and it's a nice little spot if you want to escape the craziness of the beach. There are plenty of restaurants/grocery stores within walking distance. Overall, it's a nice place but I'd expect more from a 4 star resort. I might go back if it was available for a cheaper rate.
First impressions weren’t good. We were expecting a luxury hotel so on arrival were disappointed to see people walking through hotel with carrier bags and as we were guided to our room we headed towards a dated tower block with only two lifts for everyone. The rooms were a little dated and not that clean really. Felt a bit like Butlins initially — which is not really us. However, after a few days, we settled into things and the facilities are great with lots to do with kids. Top pics were speedboat ride, kayaking and paddle boarding. We also love being so close to the Pacific beach too and body boarded every day. If you don’t expect a luxury hotel on arrival I think you won’t be disappointed. The staff were all friendly and helpful and the location is fantastic … we would come back to the area but possibly not hotel.
I’m giving this place 5 stars because of the service! Yes it’s a little dated but the room I have stayed in 3 times now is gorgeous! They just put in a little coffee bar that makes an EXCELLENT cup of coffee! I absolutely LOVE the way I’m treated EVERY TIME I AM THERE! I’m no one special but they sure make me feel that way. Constant opening doors, anything I’ve requested I get immediately. They are just kind people! Mission Beach & Pacific Beach just a hop skip & jump away! Great restaurants in the area as well. I’ll be bringing my friends & family for years to come!
Wonderful but dated. From the waterfall in the lobby to the tropical courtyard to the bird shows and the video arcade, this resort is stuck in the past. However, this isn't a bad thing. It has a lot of classic charm and I love the hotel's nostalgic feel. However, the nostalgic feel extends to the rooms, which I feel could use some renovation. Additionally, the water bottles in the room are not free, they're $3.50 with a big gaudy sign advertising their cost. If a hotel manager is reading this: give us the water for free. It classes the whole room up, makes the stay better, and will cost you $1 extra (tops). Overall, this is a lovely place to stay if you yearn for a simpler time of tourist traps in beautiful San Diego.
Love the grounds everything is beautiful, the kids loved seeing the baby ducks and the fish every day, they also enjoyed the bird show. The pool was nice loved the covered cushioned chairs. I really wish they didn’t allow little kids in the hot tub, many were jumping in and splashing all around like it was a second pool. I would like to relax in the hot tub without worrying about toddlers peeing in it or splashing me in the face.
Our rooms looked out on the pool, loved the view and sitting on our patio every morning. The bed was very comfortable and the room size was perfect. Our bathroom could have used some updates especially the toilet which didn’t flush right. Our kids room door was very difficult to shut but they had no other issues.
The gift shop was great they were always nice as were the people at the snack area.
The outdoor restaurant was beautiful but I wish they had a bit more variety and the wait staff didn’t disappear and forget to bring food and drink refills. Didn’t much care for the other restaurant the hostesses were snotty and unhelpful, our waiter was super nice but there were issues with our food.
The beach was great we had a blast on the bikes and the paddle boards and also enjoyed the river boat, especially once the DJ set up the kids loved singing and dancing.
All in all we had a fun time.
Room was clean and ready for an early check in. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Easy walk to the beach if you don’t want to hang out on the bay. Spa very relaxing and modern. The restaurants (Oceania and Morays) were ok, not missing much if you skip them and choose a local place on the beach. Would stay there again. The online reservation process is a bit confusing. The website gives the option to book spa and action sport reservations. However, you have to call and make the reservations yourself, it’s not booked. Despite the website asking you to choose date and time. Had I not called we would not have had reservations for either.
We only stayed a couple of days, but I liked the casual, laid back "feel" of the place. The rooms were nice, the decor could be updated. The staff was friendly and helpful. What I liked about the Catamaran Resort's location is it's on the "bay" side which is very nice and there are lots of water sports you can do! But just across the street is the beach (both are in Mission Beach just south of Pacific Beach. ) Lots of shops, casual and formal dining and something for everyone. The price at this resort is reasonable, but maybe a little "high" for what I felt we got in the way of our room. I would recommend The Catamaran Resort to my friends, but the resort really could use some updating and remodeling. For this area in San Diego, at the beach and bay, there is a lot to choose from as far as hotels, resorts, vacation rentals, etc. Go so check around and decide what's best for you and your family and friends.
Probably the best part of this hotel is it's location situated between the bay and the ocean. If you want calm and quiet, the bay with it's lounge chairs and umbrellas is inviting. Otherwise the beach side has a ton of restaurants and rentals within a five minute walk. The room is a little outdated but really clean, and the hotel grounds are beautiful and we'll maintained and the staff is great. We'll likely return in the future.
Beautiful place for Sunday Champagne Brunch. It is next to the bay with beautiful views. This brunch is a bit pricey but worth it. It includes crab legs, sushi, oysters, shrimp, all types of organic fruit, desserts and all you can drink mimosas! And if that isn't enough, you still get to choose a main entree. It's worth every cent but be sure to make reservations because otherwise you might have to wait for hours.
It's right on Mission Bay with easy access by foot. All of the staff was excellent! They really showed pride in their service! Environment was tropical. Ducks and coy in the ponds along the walkways as well as a small tropical bird display. There is a jellyfish tank in one restaurant. Was there to check it and eat. Food was good. Would go back.
Our two-night stay at Catamaran Resort Hotel was very nice. The room was spacious and clean, and the staff was nice and accommodating. We arrived earlier than our check-in time but were allowed to use the pool while we waited for our room. Pacific Beach is just across the street, and several good restaurants are within walking distance. The Pacific Beach crowd can be a bit boisterous, so be prepared for busy streets and lots of formerly-sober pedestrians. Surprisingly, our nights were calm and quiet, especially after 10pm. I'd stay here again.
One of the most incredible places that we have been to. Close to restaurants and grocery stores. The beach is but a block away. Amazing views. Staff is also amazing. Fresh towels and Linens everyday. They even washed our dishes. Will definitely come back here again.
Started here in April 2018 for 3 nights
Rude staff in the hotel.
Very unwelcoming feeling.
Very poor service. We asked for a extra plate for dinner and the plate showed up after two hours.
The bathroom looks nasty
Super noisy at night to a point it is scary.
Will never come back again.
I saw similar posts but with good overall rating I took a chance but it was a horrible experience.
Grounds are nice, but the rooms suck. Very dated. Feels like a 2 star hotel at best. We requested a king room, and were given an "upgrade" to a "garden view" room. Turned out to be 2 queen beds overlooking the parking lot with lots of noise. Didn't notice the noise until the evening, and since we'd already unpacked a lot of stuff and were only there for one night, didn't bother complaining. But, be warned, there may be some nice rooms here, but we certainly didn't see them. Stay elsewhere if you're able.
The plant that has come into the years. In need of renovation. Room was large and clean but old and grumpy. Images do not correspond to reality.
Not recommended. Too expensive.
It’s like your in Hawaii, but you’re in San Diego. The staff has been great and the little coffee shop has already saved me a couple times with great coffee and food. I’m looking forward to a couple more days. I highly recommend this place.
We traveled to San Diego in Mid April and had a wonderful stay at The Catamaran Resort Hotel. The staff was always very friendly and welcoming. They would help us anytime we asked. The only issue we had was one day our room didn't get cleaned until 4:30pm. We knew it had been a busy day for check-ins and that was the only issue we had the whole time. Overall the hotel was awesome. The pool was great and it filled up on Friday and Saturday but Sunday and Monday it was pretty easy to find a free set of chairs. We had a room on the 11th floor facing the pacific. You could see the ocean quite well from here and the surrounding area was beautiful. This does also overlook the parking lot and the pool but you can easily look past these at the beautiful view. The location was perfect. Really easy access to Mission Beach and some amazing restaurants. Everything was within walking distance and never had a hard time finding someplace to go. You have the option to use the bay beach area or walk a block across the road and have the ocean beach. We spent most the time at the pool but walked the beach multiple times a day. I would recommend the Hotel to anyone looking to spend some time at the beach. The area was the perfect spot for us.
First thing, the rooms are only ok. They are dated, but they are clean and nice. But the grounds and the location are perfect. You can tell they put a lot of the effort into the resort part of the hotel. The pool and hot tub and really nice and the pool is heated. They have a nice display of wildlife in the resort as well. This is also positioned really well where it is right in the middle and you can head either way and find a great deal. It is also right on the bay and only about a block from the beach.
We love it here. We've been coming for a couple years now and we plan to make it a yearly tradition. The property has been here a long time and the rooms are not state of the art, but the rooms are clean and comfortable, the grounds are beautiful, and the atmosphere is so pleasant. Food is good too. Great for a young family. Lots to do from the bay to the beach. We've rented paddle boards, FunCats, and sailboats. Definitely recommend.
The Catamaran is a beautiful resort/hotel. The grounds are gorgeous with small ponds w/fish, ducks and beautiful area with Parakeets (I think is what they are) The bay is one one side and the beach is just across the street with a boardwalk loaded with places to grab some food, souvenirs, bike, surf or anything you'd like. The only down side to the Catamaran is, although very clean, it should be updated. And that's the only reason I gave a 4 star vs. A 5 star. Will definitely go back!
The hotel was in a great location. We had a water view room which was pretty breathtaking. The outside of the hotel was very nice. Their room needs a lot of updating. The light when you come in was not working it was out, the door to the bathroom would not close or open unless you really pushed it, and overall furniture was just outdated. One thing that I really thought was great was the maid service. They were so attentive and would call me if we had the “do not disturb sign” just to assure we didn’t need anything. I thought it was thoughtful.
Went to Catamaran for drinks at Moray's, the casual bar. Very hard to figure out where to park and how much it'll cost, if anything. There was no signage when we drove in. As a guests it's confusing, and there's no way to know where Moray's is, and more importantly, that they validate parking for 2 hours. We eventually figured all this out by asking multiple people who worked there. Moray's is great for Mai Tais. Definitely get one. The views of the bay are also great if you can get a table closer to the water. Food isn't half bad, but I wouldn't go there just for food. Cocktails are worth the trip though, especially at happy hour 3-6pm weekdays.
Fantastic Location. Next to the Beach and Mission Bay. Really attentive staff and big rooms. They responded very promptly to any requests. It is very near to a lot of amazing restaurants in all price ranges. The taco stand next door is a good starting point.
Excellent to visit and stay. Beautiful…
I visited this hotel as an overnight visitor. It is located at a great spot, very close to pacific beach, on mission bay. Rooms are a bit old but well maintained. Staff is very proactive, professional and helpful. The hotel had awesome hangout options.
Fantastic food, amazing staff and a spectacular water view. We love this place even though we've only visited once, it really had an impact on us. Can't wait til our next SD trip so we can go back.
Excellent location. I do not know how it will be in summer but in January it is very nice both for the weather and for the occupation.
Catamaran Resort Hotel was a great stay. I loved all of the ducks and other birds and gigantic koi they have in their ponds. It's right off the bay and a 5 minute walk from the beach, perfect for a sunrise/sunset stroll. There's a cafe and restaurant connected to it, but I wish there was a complimentary breakfast like some other hotels, but the wildlife, trees, and location make up for it. The staff was also very polite and the conference spaces were great (slightly cold for January though). All in all a good experience.
A beautiful environment. Quality services. A room that deserves to be renovated.
Great location right on Mission bay. Walkable to a great selection of bars and restaurants. The property has great plants and I love the ducks. Rooms and beds are comfortable. No noise from adjoining rooms. Slightly noisy heater which is probably not an issue most of the time.
This place is absolutely gorgeous! Beautiful waterfall and coy pond as soon as you walk in the front entrance. I was there for a lunch with family at one of the restaurants and it was also lovely with amazing art work and a aqaurium of moon jelly fish. Our food and service at the restaurant were great! Will definitely be returning.
Stopped in to meet up with a friend. Prompt, courteous service and cool atmosphere. Took a quick look at the menu but I was in a hurry so I didn't order anything. Looks like they have a pretty good food and beverage selection. I don't come down here that often but I would come back for sure.
The resort is close to many tourist attractions and the view from the higher level rooms is breath taking. You're just minutes from the beach and lots of sun. Though the rooms themselves are a bit dated so keep that in mind if you're looking to spend time in your room outside sleeping. There's bound to be other hotels with more charm. Outside that, there's many things around the resort itself that you won't be spending much time in it.
It is amazing! They have great food. They have fun rooms to hang out in. And the ocean is in walking distance. I loved it even more because they are very welcoming. And they have beautiful land. I loved it! Uh.
The catamaran is an excellent choice to stay at. The resort is absolutely beautiful, with real tropical foliage all over the site, making it feel like your in Hawaii! There's ponds with ducks and koi fish, there's decorative water falls, and there's parrots in an open enclosure that interact with the guests! You can talk to the parrots, and if they're feeling chatty they'll say something back. The resort is very family friendly, it has a great pool with a large hot tub as well as a cocktail bar for the adults and an arcade next to it for the kids. The resort is also right on the bay, and there are countless activities to be done! SUP, bike, boat, skateboard, and surfboard rentals are found right in front of the resort. If you leave the bay and walk west a little bit (which would just be walking behind the catamaran and across the street) then you'll find yourself at the mission beach, which is a great beach with a lot of excellent restaurants and bars. Great location, great resort!
We had an amazing time. We arrived early and they accommodated our early arrival to the best room we could have asked for. The rooms were quiet — only heard people that were having discussions on their porch area and with the TV it was very minimal. There pool was clean and warm — huge hot tub — extremely friendly staff — close to everything — clean and well maintained. We loved every minute of it and were trying to plan a return trip in the future.
Stayed here for a sponsored event. Great staff, good room, and good atmosphere. Resort sits right off mission bay with its own beachfront with access to the pacific beach directly across the street. Excellent walking distance to shops and other restaurants just in case you don’t want to dine on the resort. Will definitely be visiting the area again and this resort is on the top of the list.
Came here for spa week. Well worth it! Would love to return as an o ernight guest and head to the spa again! Service was great, staff all around the hotel was very friendly. Great location near plenty of food. Danielle gave an excellent body scrub and my wife equally enjoyed her wrap. Hot tub/jacuzzi was a little small but who needs that when you have a vitamin c shower and the ocean. Loved it!
A magnificent view of the bay.
Hotel complex very nicely laid out. The rooms have come somewhat in the years. At night something sound there very clairvoyant. Ducks swim in the pool, which are also life and not human shy on the hotel grounds and come up to almost the room and also discernes everything. And no one makes it clean. We had a standard room overlooking the garden.
Beautiful property, great spa amenities and bay front location. I went to the catamaran for a spa day and drinks at the pool… Perfect day getaway. Only downside is the food service at the pool takes forever and the wait staff was not knowledgeable of the menu at all.
We almost stayed here but read the reviews about the cleanliness issues with the rooms and decided not to risk it. After checking the place out in person, I'm glad we didn't! What a dump! We did come for the luau dinner and I regret that for sure. Parking lot was overstuffed, valet was full, but they kept letting cars in anyways. Parking lot has no elevators and the stairs were slippery due to water and bad engineering for drainage. The luaua was poorly planned, seating was clearly all about cramming as many suckers into a row as possible, the drinks were watered down, and the staff were rude. And the food was garbage so what exactly did I pay $56 for in the first place? A cheap imitation of a 3 star hotel dinner show in actual Hawaii? And if you are reading reviews, you should notice that every time somebody posts a bad review, somebody from the hotel replies with the the same canned response. Avoid this place like the plague; these people don't understand the concept of hospitality.
Absolutely beautiful our room was right on the private beach. The grounds are tropical with birds and fish ponds with waterfalls. Bike and boat rentals right there at a reasonable price. Rooms are clean with great response for extra towels etc. My family had a great time. Would definitely stay again.
Fun, Polynesian themed resort hotel in a great location. I visited to judge its suitability for a corporate event and got a nice tour of a few rooms and their facilities. This would be a great place for a family vacation, a destination wedding, or a light-hearted company event like mine. Loaded with character, the Catamaran is within walking distance of multiple dining options and a boardwalk I didn't get a chance to visit. You can rent water recreational gear, chill by the pool, hang out on the beach, or even play games in their arcade. Since it's in San Diego, it's also near great attractions at the bay, Sea World, the zoo, and more. I'm excited to go back to this property in a few months!
Great resort right on the water. Went to Coastal Kitchen for sunday brunch. Lots of freshly prepared seafood and sushi unlike other brunches where they have huge piles of food that sits out all morning. They constantly are putting out fresh stuff. Brunch also comes with an entree you can take to go and just fill up on the buffet. It's like your fed for the whole day.
The catamaran is a beautiful resort! The lush landscaping (inside the hotel and on the grounds) was incredible. Special added features such as the exotic birds, attachment to the bay, nightly boat rides, on premise coffee shop and pool were impeccable. It is also an extremely short walk from the beach, where many restaurants and stores can be found. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The hotel rooms could use a bit of an update, however it did not affect the overall experience of the trip. All rooms have at least a small balcony. Depending on the side of the resort, you will either have a beach or bay view.
Staff was exceptional. All staff seemed to go out of their way for everyone to offer great service. Grounds really are beautiful and the location is very nice being right on Mission Bay and a block or two walk from the Pacific. Rooms are dated but it was clean and the linens were very clean and a pretty comfortable bed. On-site water sport rentals were in good condition, fairly priced and that staff was also very friendly and helpful. If the rooms were updated more then it would probably cost much more than it does so it seemed competitively priced. L plan to go back!
This is one of my favorite places to stay when at mission bay. They have a giant hot tub and a big pool, as well as arcade games at the pool deck. They have parrots that they will do shows with, where the parrots will talk and do tricks. Also, the hotel is located on the best beach in the bay in my opinion, and I've been everywhere in the bay. There are chairs on the beach out front, as well as a boat rental place. I'd highly recommend staying here if you're looking for a place to stay on the bay.
We enjoyed the hotel very much and will be going back. Rooms were clean and comfortable. She says the spa was excellent and the food at the restaurant was also excellent. We also receives tickets to use the steamboat at check in. It was a nice trip and worth the time. My only complaint was the spa coupon they gave us at check in. Why give it out at all if they are going to make it difficult to use? All in all it was a great end to her birthday vacation.
Service at the bar and outside patio is always good. The only negative is the prices of food and drinks. As a local my family and I have been coming to the resort to enjoy the luaus and movie nights, but much less frequently due to the cost of food and drinks.
They have a poor bell desk operating system with teens handling your luggage. I came to visit friends for a weekend from out of town and checked in my luggage with the bell desk. They lost one of my duffle bags and told me that I never checked in that bag. Claiming that they watched surveillance videos of me not having my bag upon arrival. I had the missing items reported, gave them all of my contact information, and a detailed description of my loss. The customer service I received was horrible and cheap. The front desk lacks in communication and could not follow through on a simple call back. The security manager not once ever used my first name when he spoke with me. After, I finally gave up because no one was there to help me my travel agent called after our trip was over to finalize our check out and that's when they notified her that they found my bag. That's right. They told her, not myself, that they found my bag in housekeeping because she called to complete our check out. They have yet to call and apologize to me for the major inconvenience they put me through. I do not recommended staying here unless you want to go shopping for new clothes to wear on your vacation because your hotel "lost" your luggage.
We had dinner at oceana during restaurant week. We sat on the patio. The food was great and the live music was very nice. I will be back.
Their outdoor lounge circles/firepits are great for having guests over. The waitress will serve your drinks as you are hanging out. Beautiful location and friendly staff. The rooms are okay — nothing too impressive — that's why this received a — 1.
Stopped by to meet a client for a lunch meeting. We had the ceviche which was absolutely wonderful. This place isn't just for tourists.
Really nice resort for business or pleasure. Very interesting decor, good drinks and exotic landscape. Rooms are good size and clean.
If you love the spirit of aloha, visit the lush tropics at the Catamaran Hotel in San Diego! They have out-Hawaii’d Hawaii. Specimen palms fill the grounds and sky. Robust koi swim in the meandering ponds and waterways. Exotic parrots, Wood Ducks and other stunning birds also call the place home. Significant Hawaiian artifacts are meticulously placed throughout, and the architecture is island plantation perfection. It’s magical. There are museum quality aquariums, including jellies that undulate gracefully in the main dining room at Oceana, the outstanding hotel eatery. We were just there on a Saturday night and the place was overflowing with happy diners. Tables overlook the white sand beach of Mission Bay alive with boats, and though crowded, we could hear one another with ease. What a treat! The creative cocktails and food were beautiful! I especially savored the signature Oceana Roll and a killer smoked pork chop. The oysters on the half shell were top notch. No way to rave enough about the staff. They were attentive, happy and oozed the Hawaiian spirit so lovingly created throughout the property. Oceana at the Catamaran is our own authentic Hawaii on the mainland. My whole family cannot wait to return!
Very nice entrance and location, nice garden — but that is all. E. G. We booked a room for 4 but in the kitchen there was just 1 cup and 1 portion of cafe, servicüe told us that this is normal. AC was very load, any starting 7am they cleand the parking deck very noisy. Eating at the restaurant is ok but much too expensive. If you are a little bit hungry you habe to take entree, main plate and desert as portions are very small — resulting in a bill of more than 80 Dollars per person including one glass of wine. Even for parking they charge 20 Dollars per day, a bike is 10 Dollar per h. Hotel is extremly overpriced compared to the offered service. A lot of hotels with half price per room offer much better service.
Had a wonderful time there with my Mom week of July 6-10, 2015. Very nice "handicapped" accommodations, relaxing view of gardens and pond/stream from our patio, polite and helpful staff all-around. Lots of on-site activities, including bay-side movies, Tiki Torch lighting ceremony, luau, ferry ride, restaurants, and swimming in the pool or Mission Bay. Great place for family reunions! We will be back.
I stayed here with my parents twice back in the 70s. And I remember how nice and beautiful this place was back then. So now I have returned after so many years with my family and found it to be just as attractive now as it was then. The staff at this place receives an A + from me. Awesome. We will definitely come back here again. I personally love the setting and atmosphere of this place. And the quietness of it.
Very poor service at the outside bar. This is the second time we waited over 15 minutes to get someone to talk to us. We finally walled into the bar to get our drinks. But the drinks were good one we got them.
Me and my new wife came here for our honeymoon. We loved it. Our spa experience was first class. Cameron, one of the concierges did a good job finding stuff for us to do. Steve in the Moray bar was very friendly and helpful. The grounds were beautiful. The only thing I wish is that we could have stayed a little longer.
Myself and lady friend spent 3 nights at the Catamaran. We found it kind of an Idyllic place with Tropical theme. Room was adequate over look the tropical garden area. All service people were extremely helpful and polite. We would have given them a five star rating but we had one major problem, our room housekeeping was terrible. Both afternoons of our stay our room was not cleaned until late afternoon i. E. Second day we had to call for service at 4:30 PM. Completely unacceptable. I well say when we checked out our concerns were solved to our satisfaction.
I had the pleasure of spending a day at The Catamaran Spa courtesy of my children on April 8. I was extremely impressed with this lovely spa which is located right in my back door here in San Diego on lovely Mission Bay. The tropical setting, the attentive staff, wonderful spa services by Shannon was followed by a delicious lunch at their on site restaurant Oceana. Both Richard and Diana were so thoughtful and attentive as I was challenged with a walking cast and cane. I would highly recommend this resort/spa to all visiting San Diego. The local neighbors are in for a truly wonderful experience so close to home.
An older place that's being renovated — but no elevators in many of the buildings. For that reason we old fogies had a suite on the ground floor of our building. Rooms were clean and pleasant. Landscaping is beautiful. Views of Mission Bay are spectacular. Unfortunately the neighborhood is a little sketchy — lots of "student bars" with noisy patrons, though they're not audible from the Catamaran.
My wife and I split our trip to SD into 2 days here, two days downtown and 2 days at La Jolla. It was a great way to explore the city. I ran from different locations every morning, and then we explored what SD had to offer during the day. This location is probably the most central if you want to stay in one place, but we recommend moving around at least a bit. We used Uber to move around instead of renting a car and this worked out great. We chose this property for the location. It is a very short walk to the beach and walkways that run along Mission Beach and Pacific Beach. You can walk directly out to the Bay side which I actually found more peaceful. The hotel provides chairs to the beach on the bay side. We ended up spending most of the time walking around Mission beach. Short car ride to Ocean beach where we spent a morning watching dogs at the very nice dog beach. Pacific beach area and restaurants have a strong spring break feel that didn't do much for us. The property itself is very pretty, the rooms are spacious enough, but the rooms are somewhat dated. Service was friendly (we received a cheese and cracker basket on our first day). We had breakfast at the property once. Food was fine, but very slow.
One of the best hotels I recomended.
Sort of a hidden oasis in an urban jungle. The hotel is between a Bay and the beach. There's is no private beach that I found. The hotel supplies lawn chairs on the bay side, it is a beach, however it is public (and that's a good thing). Front desk staff are polite and efficient. The rooms are very clean and large. About the size of a starter studio apartment. Each room has a balcony, a real one with furniture and sizeable enough to get 6 or so people out there comfortably. Very nice hotel in an ideal area. Would both return and also recommend without any hesitation.
Stayed here for a Journalism conference and the amenities were wonderful! Went swimming, enjoyed the conference rooms, the food and the rooms held the most gorgeous view. Would love to go again and stay for a vacation. Also the local food and shops were all phenominal. Never had to leave the block the hotel was on.
I came to the Catamaran for a blogger convention and it was a great experience. The staff was wonderful. The conference rooms were great and had lovely views of the water. Parking was a breeze. I would highly recommend this property if you are looking to have a special event.
This is a nice hotel. I repeat hotel. Its not a resort and not worth the $250.00 — $300.00 price tag for the rooms. The rooms are rooms that have been somewhat updated through the years but still lack the items that a true resort hotel has, such as tiled and glass showers, big spa like tubs and recessed lighting. We won't be back. It is mostly a glorified Holiday Inn Express. The bar and restaurants are wicked expensive. Kids galore. No adult areas for adults to enjoy like a true resort has. Even though you are a paying guest, there may be no room for you at the bar in the warmer months. Watch the hidden happy hour fees. Happy hour is mostly beer only. Our bad. We would recommend staying at a cheaper place because you basically get the same services except they cost you more here. Although the grounds are really nice, the price just isn't worth it.
This hotel has an excellent location on Mission Bay, and is a short distance from the ocean beaches. The bay water is very calm, making this an ideal place to allow small children to play. This part of the bay is also excellent for adults wanting to try paddle sports. The beach has fine white sand that is kept in spotless condition, and a paved bike path. Most of the rooms have wonderful views. The property is in renovated condition, has solid management in place, and a favorable reputation locally. The restaurant and outdoor dining areas are very nice. There is on site parking and additional on street parking available in the area. The on street parking becomes challenging to find during peak use hours like Saturday morning. Also, please note that a lot of college aged people live in this area (referred to as Pacific Beach) and the bars along Garnet and Grand can get a little wild on weekends. These streets are far enough away from the hotel that guests should not be bothered.
