Hello, Sorry but I must complain. We have checked in and staff has been pleasant but the room is disappointing. Wonder if we were giving worst room by the lobby because we booked through Hotels. Com. Or I requested something nice and was placed here spitefully. I understand the hotel is busy but I booked this awhile ago and expected a bit more. Understand most likely nothing can be done but disappointed none the less. Feel like I’m sleeping with the guests nextdoor the wall is so thin. Plus get to here every guest come in to the lobby. I never post complaints but this was our first trip after 2020. Recommend sound proofing the rooms for the B guests you don’t care for.

Spacious rooms with ocean views. Great restaurant to have dinner and watch the sunset.

We’re only at the restaurant but the service has been superb and friendly. The drinks are strong and amazing lol the ahi tuna wonton was amazing!

Terrible customer service. Impossible to get a hold of management and only get redirected.

We love this place for a staycation. On our favorite beach. The rooms are comfortable and the vibe is very relaxed. Walks on the beach at sunset to Scripps Pier are a must. Lots of cute restaurants to walk to.

This is such a lovely hotel located right on the beach. The hotel has beautiful common areas for kids. Pool and restaurant areas are lovely. It is within walking distance to LaJolla restaurants.

Excellent experience. The rooms were not too much to rave about, but the hotel had lots of character and it's own private beach. Well worth the price.

My trip was all booked through work so I can't speak to the cost or value, but the trip was excellent! The hotel staff were all very accommodating and helpful throughout the stay, including when we made a mistake on our end and they got it fixed promptly. The hotel is right on the beach and has convenient towel and chair service right there. Drinks and food at the restaurant were excellent. Rooms were dated but pleasant — only complaint easy the very old and stained carpet, which didn't bother me but may another guest. Would consider for a future trip to the area.

Hi my wife and I came to La Jolla shores last year for our honeymoon and loved it. We came back for our anniversary! The rooms are very nice and comfortable and clean. The restaurant has the greatest food around. The view from our room of the beach is spectacular especially at sunset! This is a great place to stay…

I stayed here for a week and It was awesome! The Restaurant was amazing but a tad pricy. The Nachos are the best. The rooms had a beach-like theme with beautiful views of the beach. The beach is the best part. The waves aren't too big and it is a perfect family hotel. The pool and hot tub were a little small but still it was a fun vacation! I highly suggest this hotel if you go to Upper San Diego / La Jolla.

We loved our beach stay at La Jolla Shores! The room was spacious and clean with a great comfy beach side vibe. There were outdoor activities … and a pool in addition to the perfect beach. The only disappointment was the restaurant food … and drinks. The drinks were weak and the food was just not that great. That is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. I also liked the essential oil shampoo and conditioner:)

Location. Is good. Room is dated somewhat clean. TV is dated but large. Floor was dirty. Bathroom was clean. Staff nice. Bed old needs replacing. Parking good also Tesla chargers.

Fantastic location right on the beach. Close to lots of great dining options. Rooms were clean and adequate. Loved the games in the common area.

We brought the family down to La Jolla for a 5 day visit and the hotel was awesome! This is a family run business and the attitude of the staff reflects it from management staff to the custodial crew. I dare any large chain hotel to match La Jolla Shores Hotel's attentiveness. Service is second to none! There are plenty of restaurants around the corner and in walking distance. A 3 mile walk or short Uber drive takes you down the road to the shopping center which is massive. I look forward to bringing the family again next summer.

Very nice team and facilities at this hotel. Undergoing an update, but the 1st and 2nd floor rooms are all refreshed and very nice. 3rd floor refresh is coming soon. We had an issue that maintenance couldn't address on our first night, and the staff was very accommodating with relocating us to a 2nd floor room for the rest of the stay. All and all one of the best hotels my family of five (2 adults, 15, 13 and 11 year old kids) has had a holiday at.

This hotel located by a long, sandy beach, nice. The yard is nice too. The ping pong table has balls but no rack. 1. The front desk person spoke so fast. He only took 30 seconds to tell me all I need to know. It feels like: If I weren't a guess of the hotel, he would just tell me to leave. 2. The next morning about 9 am, the cleaning lady tried to push the door open without knocking and asking. 3. The elevator didn't work when we came back from the beach. 4. The shower facet leaks. 5. The bathroom sink has a crack all the way from facet to the bowl. If just for the location, I will visit this hotel again if the price is $150, not for $300, plus parking $24.

The view is spectacular… It is world-class. however the restaurant is kind of 90s style it's a little past due its prime but if you just look at the ocean the food is good & the drinks are good so it's a lot of fun.

When I have business at Scripps I love staying at this hotel. I really enjoy the beachfront location, the sound of the waves and the cool breeze is awesome. The property is older than a lot of the newer hotels that seem to be popping up everywhere, but I found the rooms comfortable, the staff helpful and my stay was reasonably priced. I'd definitely stay again at this property.

Can't say enough about the perfect location. On the beach, quiet, but closer to everything in La Jolla. Courtyard is fantastic. Hotel is not new, and is a little 'lived in", but rooms are comfortable and clean. Staff very friendly.

Loved this hotel. The beds were really comfortable. Had good channels on TV. They provided shampoo and other necessities. Overall great service and great views. Would definitely recommend and go to again.

5 stars for the location but like many of the other reviews I felt like the rooms were pretty dated for the price. I also felt a bit mislead by the “coastline view” rooms. It was not clear as to where these rooms were located. Lastly what really brought it down for me was the lack of any sort of concession center to pick up water or snacks. We arrived late at night and wanted to get a few bottles of water. They directed us to a sketchy vending machine in the basement that was of course sold out. Seemed odd for a hotel of this price.

Beautiful view of the ocean from the rooms. The hotel is right on the beach. The restaurant has the most amazing breakfast and the portions are very large. The rooms are a little dated but very clean.

1. Rooms are dated and walls/ceilings are PAPER THIN! I heard the people above and next door. Impossible to actually get a good nights rest because of this. 2. The hot tub wouldn’t heat when I stayed there. Very disappointed as I deferred dinner plans to relax in a hot tub that was cold.

The bar food was delicious. The service was terrible. We had to ask multiple people for the same thing and still never got it. All the tables were dirty. Our server walked past us four times to get to the table behind us, but never stopped for us. Half way through, the manager helped out and things got a little better.

Great time… wonderful place… I've seen the other reviews about the outdated decor but I must say… it's clean… it's cozy and the beach views and easy access to the beach… amazing! The decor goes with the beach theme of the hotel so I was thoroughly impressed with the grounds… very family friendly or just for two… whatever your pleasure, it won't dissapoint.

Love this place. Go all the time service was good usually excellent but they were very busy. Forgot item we ordered. She was very apologetic but helve for stars. We will definitely be back.

Awesome location! Very near to the beach an several shops. Bar area also overlooks the ocean, which is great.

Love love love the shores hotel. I have been going there for years. I even stayed there as part of my proposal to my now wife. Its wonderful for families or couples.

Fantastic hotel, our first time here. Got the rooms overlooking the beach and could not ask for more. Hard to get a hotel literally on the beach, and a fantastic beach at that. Room was clean, large, and a kitchen area. Customer service was great. Will be coming back.

The beds and room were fine, the floors were tile which was a bit weird. The housekeepers were a bit lazy, one of the lamps went out and we left a. Note for them to replace it (The lighting was not very good) and when we got back it was still not replaced. The staff we met were nice, though.

Very nice hotel, directly next to the beach. My room was spacious and clean, and it overlooked the pool in the center of the hotel. I would definitely come back again, but for a vacation instead of business travel!

The location is great, being right by the ocean, and on the first floor there is a restaurant area that has a glass wall with a beautiful view of it. The rooms have plenty of space, and room service is just what you'd expect. All of the employees are extremely friendly and nice! The only disappointment was the lack of a microwave.

Loved that it was right on the beach. An older hotel, but clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. Parking garage is very tight, but manageable. Loved sitting in the bar/restaurant and enjoying the view.

We've been coming to La Jolla Shores Hotel for over 20 years. Great beach, great restaurant overlooking the ocean (come at sunset), great open air patio cafe (come as you are), walking distance to other great restaurants (and the iconic sidewalk cafe, The Cottage, in town), short drive to great shopping and restaurants in La Jolla (don't miss the Warwick Bookstore), great views from the rooms, easy ten minutes drive to San Diego with all of its sights and activities, Birch Aquarium up the road a few blocks, friendly staff, comfortable rooms, beach casual in the Shores area, kayaking, snorkeling, boogie boarding, surfing (lessons available for all ages), or just rest and read on the beach (they furnish umbrellas and towels) or your private patio. We keep looking for a better venue with all of the above items and haven't found one yet. With so much in one convenient location, the price is well worth it. Time is money too.

We have been coming here to stay for over 10 years, this is the best ocean front hotel. They provide beach umbrellas​ and chairs, so you don't need to bring anything to sit at the beach. The rooms are comfortable, and there is a shuttle to go shopping or out to dinner. There's a bar and restaurant as well. The staff are always courteous and helpful. What else can you ask for.

I've been to a few different events at the La Jolla Shores hotel, and every experience has been great. Friendly, professional staff, delicious food, beautiful amenities, and an amazing location and view at one of the most popular beaches in San Diego. Would love stay there someday.

Wonderful service, location, and ambiance. The view during sunset is what's most enjoyable. Their on-site restaurant was quaint and service was top notch. Highly recommend any visitor to San Diego come check it out.

Really nice place with tons of amenities. Attended for an event and it is literally right next to the beach, along with being next to several kayak rental places, restaurants, cafes, and shops. They also have free towels and free beach chairs for all of their guests. A small part of La Jolla Shores is also dedicated to the hotel guests, which works out great since La Jolla Shores often gets crowded on the weekend and on days with perfect beach weather. If I had the chance and the money it seems like it would be an amazing place to do a staycation at.

Location is great. Just steps away from the beach. Essentially that is what you are paying for because the hotel itself needs updating. The bed was uncomfortable and the room stuffy, despite having the ac on. It was enjoyable just could have been better for the price.

Had a great time. Great location on the beach, helpful staff, nice pool. Rooms were a bit dated and dingy but the location makes up for it. I would recommend staying here.

Stayed for 3 nights and had a wonderful time! Friendly staff, delicious fish tacos and micheladas by the pool. Pillows were way too soft but the bed was very comfortable. Clean bathroom, clean sheets, well appointed. Sicilian orange bath products smelled great. We'll definitely be back.

One of my favorite beaches to go to in the summer. It's pretty nice and the sand isn't too rocky. It has a nice area and good fire pits for bonfires. If you want to reserve a bonfire pit in the summer, you'll have to go really early. Even early in the morning, they'll all be taken. It's best to go 4:00 am or earlier. The facilities are nice too and there's a board walk that's perfect for skating and walks. Parking is a little bit of a hassle and sometimes there's a lot of tourists but it's still really good.

Not kid friendly My husband, three young kids and I showed up at this hotel after spending three days at Disneyland. We were dirty. We were tired. My three year old was sick and crying. We got stuck in traffic and we just wanted a room to go to bed in. Our room was mysteriously not ready at 7 pm when we checked in. The clerk was visibly disgusted by us and mentioned several times how much things cost… As though he expected we wouldn't be able to pay. When we got to our room, it was gross. There were literally brown spots on the white comforter — right on top of the bed. The beds were crumpled, it looked like someone had been in our room before us and switched rooms and the bedding hadn't been changed. The carpets were deep down dirty. The room overall was the level of grossness you expect from a cheap roadside motel, not a beachfront property in La Jolla that charges $20 a night for parking. I called to complain about the bedding and they sent someone up to change it on one bed. Then — when I went to bed after all my kids were finally asleep I realized all the bedding was feather. I should have checked. I had requested no feathers when I booked the room-but obviously they failed there too. I couldn't get new bedding without waking my kids, so I spent the night sucking on cough drops trying to calm my allergies so I didn't cough all night wake up my sick kid. Really, really not impressed.

La Jolla shores is one of the best beaches in San Diego. The waves are usually calm but can also have good surf. I snorkel here occasionally because the water tends to be clear. It's best to snorkel late summer because of all the Leopard Sharks that come in close to shore (they are harmless).

Very nice beach area, with fire pits, well designed lifeguard facilities. Excellent location for learning to surf, beginning to dive, or just enjoying the sun. Oversize vehicles have limited parking, so be early!

Most beautiful place in the world. I always feel safe and at home on the shores. If you want a fire pit get there early. But honestly, it's so beautiful you can just sit on the beach by candle light.

Cool fire pits that you need to reserve at 3am if you want them the night of. Kind of nuts but worth it. Always super clean and enjoyable place to spend 21 hours going through the ordeal of reserving and then using the fire pit.

First, I must say… I LOVE the ocean and being on the sand. I was not impressed with this place at all. Parking was horrific and the beach was filled with a ton of sea weed. We are heading elsewhere tomorrow.

Great beach for families. The parking is very well solved with a big parking lot. Waves are generally gentle and great for beginner surfers and body board lovers. There are not to many stores along the boardwalk so come loaded with food.

Overcrowded, no parking. Additionally I was drinking a light beer NOT on the beach, but beyond the wall. No signs present that it was forbidden. As a european tourist you do not really know what it is allowed and where if there is no clear signs. A beach guard came to me, grabbed my bottle, emptied in the sand saying it was trash. He was really rude. He could have explained it more kindly especially when realizing you're not a lical. Thank you, I'll not come here anymore.

I don't know if it's seasonal or what, but there's sooo much seaweed in the water! It was really obnoxious to try to enjoy the beach when I kept getting tangled up. And it gave me a pretty bad rash on my legs.

This beach was wonderful! The only downside was that we had read that there would be food and shopping nearby and there wasn't. The nearest was a 10 minute walk. Which was a little far for my three year old after playing all morning.

Beach isn't that big but it gets crowded and the parking fills up fast. There's a kids playground and kayaks to adventure on (need to sign up and pay of course). I saw a surfing lesson going ok as well. There's also a green park area and a few benches and bbq pits.

Such a great place to cruise on a late afternoon while the sun is setting. You can park near the shore and take a quick stroll along the sidewalk.

One of my favorite beaches in San Diego! I like to walk towards the pier and further on behind it — until I get to the UFO looking building.

The first time on the beach and it was great. There was some road work that we had to get throw. Easy to park. Was great with my 4 year old son with us.

This beach is pretty awesome. The only downside is finding parking during the summer months. It can get crazy! It has a nice park area with grass, restrooms, and fire pits on the beach. Plus, you can walk over to a great surfing spot, Scripps.

I absolutely loved the weekend I spent here, albeit the parking was a nightmare but once that was settled we had a great time. Hamburgers on the beach, sea lions swimming around us and tons more memories, I plan to visit it more often in the future~.

Very crowded on the weekends, at least in the summer. However, I can usually find good street parking on Camino Del Oro, which is only a 5-10 minute walk away. The waves are great for beginner surfing at this beach.

Its very hard to justify the high price of this hotel with its beach view. True, its the only hotel here with the amazing beach view (if u book that type of room) but the room condition is so outdated that immediately makes you doubt the star of this hotel. I will leave it to you to judge the trade-off here. Service is good and the beach access is great, thou I cant wait to get out of their rooms. Just be prepared.

Shuffle those feet! This beautiful place to embark on a kayak adventure, scuba dive, or just some fun on a boogie board is loaded with wildlife, so don't disregard those cute little stingray signs all over the beach! Growing up, this was definitely a kid-friendly spot to enjoy mellow waves and plenty of other families. There are some amenities in the little businesses nearby (Piatti is a family favorite), but I'd recommend bringing food from home or grabbing something from downtown La Jolla since options are a bit limited.

We had an incident with one of the life guards at La Jolla Shores on Tuesday, 6/24/14. There was a rude and disrespectful comment made to my partner, who is an African American male, we were getting ready to leave and taking the trash out of the car in the parking lot and he asked one of the life guards where the trash can was to where the lifeguard J. Gonzalez responded, "Stop talking to him, you're wasting our time. " I feel as though this incident is similar to many racially motivated microaggressions I have seen from other public service officials in San Diego where elitism and racism is running rampant. Had my partner been a white man would the response been different? Had my partner been a white female would your lifeguard acted differently? Instead of being rude he could have easily pointed my partner in the direction of the trash cans, it's common courtesy anyone with manners is capable of. I will be filling out a formal incident report. Upon leaving your beach my daughter said that she never wants to go there again. The way we were treated is completely uncalled for and we feel very disrespected and rightfully so. I spoke with a Sgt. Owens and hopefully this lifeguard will be reprimanded for his inappropriate behavior, lack of professionalism, and customer service.

Gave us a room right next to construction. Literally gave us the room closest to the construction and claimed all other beach view rooms were booked even though there is not a single light on in any other room in the hotel. Construction started promptly at 8am with chainsaws and caterpillars. Booked the room nearly two months ago and have been a customer since early 2000s and this is how you treat us? Called the front desk and they brought us two small bottles of water to make up for the $600 wasted on the hotel. Thank you guys so much! Management did nothing for us. For over $250/night this place is absolute garbage. Carpets are dirty and stained making me scared to even walk to the bathroom barefoot. Smells like someone took a giant turd before we entered the room every time and thats not even an exaggeration. This place is an absolute joke and a huge waste of money. Wouldnt recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. Only come here if you want to completely waste your money. Essentially a motel 6 on the beach. Hotel offered to give us a free upgrade to a bigger room for our troubles for the second night and then charged us an extra 60 bucks when we checked out. Whack hotel and a total waste of cash Ill never be back.

Amazing location, great view of the ocean. The rooms could use updating but was very comfortable and cozy. Not as loud as I expected but maybe because we visited during the week. The pool and hot tub was great but the hot tub seemed a little small. Would recommend for families especially if you want to spend time at the beach. Restaurant is very good but very expensive. Has access to tons of food on the strip.
