My company had us stay at the Embassy Suites in La Jolla for our regional training. Instead of driving down on Monday morning in traffic, I opted to stay on Sunday night which turned out to be the best decision ever. I was also supposed to get free Wi-Fi with my corporate rate which my coworker did share with me since I wasn't given the password upon check-in. Otherwise, you have to pay for Wi-Fi which isn't worth it on my floor. The Wi-Fi connection kept going in and out so it was weak at best. I was able to connect via my work laptop but connecting on my iPad was difficult to say the least. The Embassy Suites offers a complimentary breakfast to all guests as well as complimentary drinks during happy hour. They have you swipe your room key to make sure you're a guest and every guest gets 2 keys. Just remember to tip the staff since they work hard. The breakfast reminds me of college dorm food. There are juice and milk dispensers, cereal, oatmeal, danishes, bagels, toast, omelette station, yogurt, and coffee. The omelette station can make you scrambled eggs if you don't want an omelette. They also make pancakes too. Each room is a suite with a living area complete with desk, sofa (pull-out for extra guests), bathroom, private bedroom area, wet bar, 2 flat screen TVs, mini-fridge, Keurig machine and microwave. We had a shuttle scheduled for us everyday to drive us from the Embassy Suites to our company campus. Just remember to schedule with the front desk, otherwise you are on your own. Parking in the hotel lot can be pricey but we had a negotiated corporate rate which brought it down significantly. The front desk will give you a separate key card to access the garage. While I was staying there, I took advantage of the gym which you have to enter through the indoor pool area. There's a water cooler in there for you to refill your bottle should you choose. They also have clean towels. The gym is pretty standard and even comes with a separate flat screen TV. Also, if you like them on Facebook, you get a free drink at Indulge Bar; just don't use it during happy hour since you get free drinks anyway. Also, if you are a Hilton Honors Rewards member (free to sign up), the floor they will put you on should be level 10. They will ask if you prefer a lower or higher floor and if you value your sanity, pick higher away from the elevators if possible. The sounds and smells from the first floor carries up so you will be happier up higher. You can thank me later. 3.5 stars rounded up.
