Train Horn Blast will Sever Eardrum Hyperbole? Exaggeration? No, it's not. Have you stood next to a train — next to! — when it blasts its horn? Yes. That. That's what it sounds like in a north-facing partial-ocean-view room when, 200 feet from the train station, directly underneath your third-floor balcony door, the train blasts its horn. But wait! There's more. Not only does the train blast every 30 minutes during the day — it blasts throughout the night too. You heard me. Throughout the night. I can't imagine no one has suffered a fatal heart attack because of this. But then, how would you prove it, right? Marriott would just say it was coincidence. Marriott's sleazy opportunists don't even warn you — not on their website, not with their reservation agents, not at the front desk. After 15 hours flying across the country, months of vacation planning, and thousands of dollars expended, SpringHill Suites in Oceanside, CA meets us with this. What despicable, sniveling rats! Oh. By the way, according to the front desk, you are not allowed to inspect a room prior to checking in—nor move to an alternate one once you do. Of course you're not. Of course. I now know why. And so do you. Our vacation was saved because the wonderful front-desk manager, Ellie, moved us to an ocean-front room the following night when she saw our bloodshot eyes and trembling bodies. But I am writing this for all you poor saps who will check-in only to find no ocean-front room available, who are afraid to speak up and complain the day after, and who, like us, have been planning your seaside vacation for months only to get the shock of your lives when you check-in to your partial ocean-view room and your eardrum bursts from a train-horn blast at 2:00am. To you, I say this: Write Marriott! And post your review on all the travel websites. Call the greasy slime balls out on their dishonesty, lack of transparency, and moral bankruptcy. And if your vacation is ruined because of their deceit, call a lawyer and make them pay! Also, I know you all out there are experiencing the same thing. PLEASE take some photos and, better, video of the train roaring past under your balcony. I did not have the presence of mind to do so. Post your photos and video and LET PEOPLE KNOW WHAT THEY'RE IN FOR!
