The hotel grounds are nice, the rooms are comfortable. Though the seating for the continental breakfast is smaller than I'd like, as my wife and I couldn't find seating and we're forced to eat in our room. And also one of the elevators was wonky and the doors shut on my wife and took her to the 3rd floor. All things considered I'm enjoying my stay.

The facility was pretty well traveled and things were not in pristine condition. Small touches were often forgotten (pool towels unstocked, fridge unplugged in the room so it was inconvenient and smelled) but the staff was friendly and were quick and happy to make any needed adjustments. It was located conveniently and plenty of restaurants were within walking distance, and it was right off of the freeway with plenty of free parking. Included breakfast was convenient and kids loved having so many options, even if they weren't the fanciest. The fitness center was small and cramped, but it has a pool and spa. It wasn't the poshest of hotels, but the friendly staff and low price point were the right match for what we needed. Would stay here again.

Staff is helpful and friendly! Hector was very helpful after I accidently had booked a day in advanced by mistake and obviously missed my check in day. Even though this was my fault he quickly helped me get the issue resolved with a smile the whole time. Definetly will stay here anytime I am in town. Place is also clean and quite.

My sons school district paid for our stay, his robotics team had a competition at Lego land. They wanted each families card to do a $50 hold for damages. We all understood. They then put a new hold on there every night. To the sum of $645.00 they were not sure why that happened and at one point tried to justify it. They offered no accommodation for this mistake that ended up being a stressful problem for each family. Didn't help that we could not use our sink as it kept filling up with sewer water.

Very nice rooms. Typical breakfast fare, but the service was excellent. Very family friendly. The outside pool was great and there's a cabana for the parents to sit poolside.

Breakfast is served every morning, the staff is very accommodating, gym is somewhat small along with the rooms. From my interactions with the staff at the front desk, they are very friendly and co-operative. Overall nice place but small rooms. 4/5

First time staying at this location and I had an exceptional experience. Dakotah at the front desk was great. She was very helpful and polite. When they said they served breakfast I thought maybe some muffins and coffee… NOT! How about full on breakfast. Everything was sooo good! The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The view was nice as well! Just made this mothers day weekend perfect! Thank you HOI Carlsbad! :)

Room was nice. Great location. Bathroom shower needs an update. Television HD quality is okay. Big fridge. Microwave in the room.

Overall 3 stars… but the people at the hotel made it 4. My room was ok, sink was slow draining and AC unit had to settings freeze or burn… no in between. It was enough space for 4 in a double room and they beds were comfy. Breakfast was the usual suspect with a small pizzazz of a pancake maker… and they were dry but better than some.

Easy in and out. Amenities as noted. Close to attractions, food, and service stations. More than one would normally expect from a Holiday Inn. — 1* as parking is an issue at this location.

Location (near Legoland) beds pillows attention of the employees (very friendly) opposite has a good restaurant the refrigerator of the room makes a lot of noise you hear a lot of the steps of the people from upstairs (so ask for the 3rd floor)

It's a good hotel. PROS: connected to a Benihana's, across the street to a shopping center, decent free breakfast and 10 min walk to a beach/camp ground. Cons: hard to find Staff after hours, housekeeping didn't restock towels until asked, breakfast was the same everyday (unlike other Holiday inn so Exp I stayed at)

The staff here was extremely engaging, friendly and helpful. We spent two days here, attending services for our father. We stayed in a handicap room and thought the room was well laid out and had all of the amenities needed for a person with disabilities. We had a ceiling leak, and we're comped one night.

It's the second time I'm here and the service and facilities are pretty good. I have not had any complaints or inconvenience and hope to return soon.

Very nice room, very clean, and incredible breakfast. Beautiful pool, will definitely return and stay again, and very close to Legoland as well as the beach. Also close to supermarket, restaurants Banks takeout food, pizza places all of that. Wonderful staff very helpful plenty of parking, easy in Easy out. Right off of the freeway. Will return.

Decent hotel with nice location and clean room. Free breakfast is always good too. Only issue was noise coming from machines or something late at night and early morning.

Great hotel for very short stays. This hotel had great prices and good occasional deals (for example you got a discount if you had a triple A membership) I stayed here for one night and had a quite satisfactory experience. Nice pool and gym, free breakfast is amazing. My only complaint is the outdated air conditioner which made the room smell like some kind of extremely strange perfume an old lady would wear.

Good hotel, the breakfast is good, the rooms clean and the atmosphere quiet. I recommend it.

Check in was quick. Room was clean and spacious. Water pressure for the shower was low. Breakfast was decent. Didn't get a chance to use the pool or hot tub but they looked clean.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and decently sized. The TV screen quality was very low, the shows I tried to watch were pixely and not defined well. We received a certificate for one free appetizer at a nearby restaurant when we checked in, which was a nice touch. The breakfast was pretty good and somewhat unique compared to most hotel chains; pancakes, cinnamon rolls, mini omelettes, and more. The coffee was really good too.

Really nice staff and good rooms for a reasonable price. Breakfast is good and has a lot of options. Pool was cold but it is December. The hot tub looks like it needs to be cleaned but I'm not an expert.

Great location. Restaurants nearby. A short walk to the water. The included breakfast is OK as well. It's what you come to expect from a Holiday Inn Express.

I have stayed at other Holiday Inn Express hotels before and this by far has to be the worst experience. The room they put us in was smelly and dusty and the moment we walked in all four of us started to sneeze. We called the front desk to see if we can move to another room but we're told nothing was available. We didn't have a choice but to stay put because other hotels in the area weren't available for the night. I wish the hotel had kept a more clean room and maintained it well. Even the bathroom was quite dirty. In addition, when checking in I asked the front desk staff if I can take a couple of milk cartons for my kids, I was told no they're for breakfast time. I really didn't think that a couple of milk cartons would have been a problem and had it been a Fairfield Inn I am almost certain I wouldn't have the same issue. I think if a hotel is trying to compete with Fairfield inn or Hilton garden inn then they need to start providing comparable guest services. This clearly wasn't comparable or even close!

The service was very good and the breakfast included and very delicious with many options. The rooms were very spacious and modern.

Very nice hotel. Staff are always prompt and helpful. This hotel is just next to the main Highway and 5 minutes walk from the beach where you can see amazing sunsets.

Great staff, front desk agents made me feel special. Mainly Sharlene, she helped me find my way around ocean side. Recommend this hotel! 10/10

Good Wi-Fi good rooms simple breakfast.

Friendly and hospitable staff, free breakfast was tasty, the only problem was drawers sliding open, but maintenance fixed the problem.

I love every visit to a Holiday Inn Express and this one is living up to my expectations, too. The room is beautiful, the staff is helpful, and everything about our stay is pleasant.

Room was clean and decent, but an older hotel. Staff was fantastic! Makayla made our weekend great, even though there were clouds in the Sky. Pool and Hot tub were constantly crowed with droves of kids and families, but the beach was only a short drive or moderate walk away.

Spent 3 nights there. Very limited seating for breakfast, food was your average continental, cleanliness is just OK. I doubt they changed the sheets before we arrived. Best part was the proximity to beach and Legoland.

Not what expected from IHG group of hotels. Unfriendly staff, stained comforter. No room cleaning was done during our stay, bathroom had shower area whose door was to wobbly as if the glass can fall any time. Not satisfied.

Our trip was great due to this Holiday inn! Everything was perfect. Comfy, cozy and clean and with 2 young children it was nice. Probably the best hotel stay we have had in a long time! The breakfast was good. The staff was awesome. After a long day at Legoland this place felt like home away from home. No complaints other than it didn't have a bathtub but it's ok… everything else was good.

The room was neat and clean when we arrived. The included breakfast was your typical continental breakfast food, but still better than most. Because of the hotel's proximity to Legoland, there are a lot of families that prefer to stay at this location. If you don't like being around kids, you should definitely consider avoiding this hotel. However, if you still choose to stay, the sound proofing is very good. Overall, would definitely stay here again.

The front desk staff is awesome! Breakfast was okay. The room is smaller than our last one, but doable. The location is great! Overall, we are happy!

Brand new hotel right off of I-5. Very clean and great breakfast. Watch out for the cinimon rolls. They are addictive. Walls could be a little thicker. Will definitely be back.

The front staff was friendly both days we were here. The room was nice and clean. Included a microwave and refrigerator. The location is right next to Carlsbad beach and within walking distance. The included breakfast had lots of variety. For food, there is a restaurant in the same lot, but there are some great Mexican selections within 5 miles.

This hotel is about 10 minutes away from LegoLand which is why we chose to stay here. The prices were reasonable enough, and the receptionists were always nice to us! Breakfast was very simple, but it's included in your stay which is a plus. The rooms were also clean and very cozy.

It was nice clean and affordable. The staff was really good and attentive. The breakfast meat and eggs was just ok, but if you like cereal and toast than its a good basic breakfast.

Nice spacious room. I think we had an upgraded room. Close to the beach 1/4 mile. Close to Lego land. It's not a full service hotel. It is everything it's supposed to be.

This is a GREAT find in Carlsbad. The hotel is not ON the beach, but pretty close. Noise level is moderate — I can totally live with it as opposed to the noise at the Econo Lodge nearby, for example. There is a heated pool and hot tub, fast, free Wi-Fi, and a great complementary breakfast. This hotel has everything you'd need — staff did not give me a hard time about anything — very accommodating. Also, we slept very soundly. The beds, pillow, linens were very comfortable. I would not stay anywhere else for the price.
