We really loved our stay at Gentle Tom Hotel. We were in Türkiye for 3 weeks for our Nikah and wedding, and our experience at the hotel really helped make for positives memories.
It is very clean hotel and has fantastic staff — very welcoming. They assisted us by setting up airport shuttle, always had friendly greetings as we entered and exited daily, have modern and updated rooms, a simple but delicious breakfast served daily on the upper most level, overlooking a fantastic view of Istanbul, daily housekeeping. (women whom provided breakfast and did the housekeeping was fantastic! ), is in a super convenient location — (steps from Istiklal street and 10 minute walk to Taksim square and metro), and has premium TV channels like Netflix.
Umat Kanat, front desk clerk, graciously helped us carry our huge heavy bags to the shuttle on our departure. — always so helpful and friendly — thank you!
Note: This hotel is in a very busy area and as such could be quite noisy, especially on Saturday. If you are a light sleeper or are looking for a quiet getaway then this is not the place for you. It wasn't an issue for us and our review reflects that.

It's a beautiful building in an excellent location and our room was very comfortable. Good breakfast on the roof every morning.
The Wi-Fi doesn't work very well, which was an issue because we chose the hotel in part because it seemed like a comfortable and modern place where we could get some work done during our trip.

Complete rip-off! Do not book there. I have booked a room with a terrace/ balcony on booking. It was clearly stated in the room description and room facilities. They are saying I need to pay an extra fees to get a balcony while their description was misleading. Please note that they don't offer free room upgrade. Take a pass at gentle tom, and book in a hotel where you will be upgraded to a nice room and that would treat you as a value customer.

I booked a stay at this hotel through a scam app “booking” which is another story with them. As you can see in the picture the bed is full of body hair as well as the table which mean it was just adjusted and bed sheets not changed. The bar is less than a meter away from the balcony and the windows and you can literally hear the conversation of the people since the glass is not soundproof as well. There’s a staircase on the balcony anyone from the street can go up and the balcony door doesn’t even have a lock. I complained to the reception after 10 min of checking in they told me this is the only room we have we can’t do anything. I requested to cancel my booking and get a refund they started to be disrespectful and talk in another language and say no we don Do that. I called Booking which is the app I booked from they told me leave the property don’t check out and we will solve it and if they don’t refund we will. Guess what booking are scammers and turned out they cancelled my booking as I didn’t show up to the property.

The best:
— Location was very good. It is right next to Iztiklal street, so there is a lot happening, especially at night.
— The bed is the most comfortable bed in the whole world. It is insane how well you sleep in that bed (or maybe it was the 25/30 kms that we were walking in average a day discovering this great city)
— Breakfast is very nice and the lady serving it, although she does not speak English, she is very helpful and cute.
— Great view of the city from the rooftop terrace, which is where you have breakfast at.
To improve:
— we read in previous reviews that it could be loud and noisy due to its location. I can confirm it is. We arrive on a Friday night and that night and Saturday night felt like the nightclub was right into our room. I do not habe troubles with the noise but my partner does and although not horrible, it wasnt 100% pleasant. Sunday and Monday were absolutely fine, there was not a single noise. I would try to request getting assigned to a back room as thT might help with the noise.
— None of the hotel staff speak English, so forget about asking for tips, suggestions, help, etc. The one time. We needed help to confirm the shuttle bus, we had to communicate through Google translate.

Stayed there for 3 nights, it was amazing. Their hospitality is far better than my previous stay at a 5 star hotel not far from their location. Definitely a recommended place to stay at Istanbul.

Lovely small hotel in the bylanes off Istiklal. Beautifully designed rooms and comfortable too. The bathroom was splendid (I took pictures because I loved the tiles). Great beds. Lots of in room storage. And I must mention that the room had great lighting too (dim, inadequate lighting in hotel rooms is a pet peeve of mine). Staff were friendly and breakfast was adequate.
Another great thing about this hotel is the location. It's surrounded by streets filled with local book shops, art galleries, small indie artists, designers and handmade stores. Absolutely enjoyed discovering and shopping from these hidden gems. It's also walkable to some great restaurants (like Nicole). High street shopping from the likes of Zara etc. Are also just a few minutes away on Istiklal street.
The hotel is also surrounded by clubs and bars which play music till late, so probably best to keep this in mind and ask for a quieter room. Another thing to note is that the street the hotel is on and the surrounding streets are all on narrow steep slopes, a bit tricky to navigate after a few drinks in the evening (as I discovered), Most taxis will also drop you close-ish but not quite near the hotel because of this too. Overall though, these negatives are very manageable and didn't put us off.
Would stay here again!

A perfect hotel with amazing terrace views! We stayed at GentleTom for 3 nights and had a great experience. The staff were all so lovely and helpful. The location of the hotel was very convenient and close to popular attractions, restaurants and transport. Highly recommended for those who are seeking to stay in the heart of Istanbul.
