We stayed at Dirik Surf Hotel for a few days in late May. The location is beautiful and the idea of a surf hotel in Datça has a lot of potential, but our experience was underwhelming.
During our stay the hotel was nearly empty, with only a few other guests. That made it even more surprising that the service felt distant and impersonal. At check-in we were only told the meal times. No effort was made to make us feel welcome or to explain anything else. Communication was difficult as the staff didn’t speak English and didn’t try to engage in any other way.
Meals were basic and lacked freshness. Dinner was bland and repetitive, and breakfast offered little variety with old bread, unripe vegetables and no fresh products. We had to figure out things like getting our own coffee or tea. The room was fine, but the bathroom was small, outdated and not shown on the website. It had no shower door, dirty silicone edges and a broken towel rack. The duvet on the double bed was far too small, although we could use a spare blanket from a third bed in the room.
We ended up leaving a day early because we didn’t feel comfortable or well taken care of. Even in low season, with so few guests, a basic level of attention and hospitality should be expected. This place has all the ingredients to be something special, but right now they are not making the most of it.
