Review of Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya - SHA Extra Plus 5*

I have reviewed this hotel today with Trip Advisor. This is what I wrote: “Mid-stay Review” 4 of 5 stars Pending review Be prepared for the vastness of the place. It is big and airy. The entrance way is welcoming, and the greetings were cheerful. Lost World theme. Check-in — pleasant enough, Complimentary drink vouchers offered. Never got round to using them. Not sure about their expiry! Ocean View room is a must. Expansive views so learn to use the 'panoramic mode' in your camera or cell phone. Room is smaller than I expected, lacks an iron, but adequate save for: 1. The lack of running water in the toilet! Not too hygienic as post-business, one has to trek to the basin outside, to wash up, possibly contaminating the door handles, etc. Good idea to bring a hand sanitizer to keep within the toilet. The hotel could provide one — cheaper than installing a wash basin! 2. The shower area separated from the bedroom by a curtain is dodgy if you are conservative and not in the presence of a person or persons who like to see you, 'starkers'! 3. The mirror and wash basin are neighbours and not in line. So shaving is an aerobic activity. Not too inconvenient though — right hand crosses over, rinses, scrapes away, scrapes more, crosses over, obliques worked, rinse razor, cross over to complete the oblique workout, scraping resumes or, one could try the switch of hands. It is not that bad; I am nasty! Super fittings and the decor is awesome in the rooms and common areas. Bring your brewed coffee sachets. The instant stuff did not work for me. Fun side — loads of activities so sit and plan them. I chose to go blind and to play things by ear! No problem. Poolside and surrounding fun is super for kids. Clean. Ice cream and popcorn a pretty good idea! Highlight — a jump-off spot for the daring. It was well managed, and it is safe for all ages. No diving though which is sensible. The gym is neat, well equipped, staff pleasant but not too spontaneous with those not familiar with the equipment. Lap pool beside the gym is a neat feature! Alternative form of exercise. Food — hmm. Only two restaurants patronized and neither impressive in taste nor service. Managers seem well trained, but the serving staff seem to be lacking in knowledge. In fairness, more when I have eaten more. Overall, dining is a 5 /10 for now. Stayed March 2015 3 of 5 stars Value 3 of 5 stars Cleanliness 4 of 5 stars Service Recommend — yes! Stay again? — yes.
