Great stay overall! The staff were extremely friendly and gave us a very warm welcome. Our spacious studio on the second floor had a beautiful interior design, a very comfortable bed, and good entertainment options. Parking is available across the street and there is an elevator in the building.
A few things to keep in mind: the bathroom is only separated by a curtain-style door, so privacy is limited. The balcony is very small and not really usable. Breakfast (toast, fruit salad, and tea) was very tasty and brought to the room in the morning, served at a Japanese-style low table with seat cushions.
The only real downside was that the building is quite sound-sensitive — we could hear hallway noise and water running in the pipes when the upstairs studio used the bathroom.
Overall a nice place in a good location with some pros and cons. We would stay here again.

Really nice and lovely people at the Inn and really helpful! The room is fabulous and has everything you would need and very convenient from the main bus stop from taichung.

Well, where do I start with a review on the Sun Moon Inn?
Why not start at the very end…
Over two nights, and three day's in late November 2025, I was a very happy bunny at the SMI, ensconced as I was in a Slow Space room.
How's that for an ending…
But now, to the bare bones as to exactly why.
Location — Literally a stones throw from the bus station, and main downtown area.
Slow Space room — Lovely large room, blessed with amongst other things, a toilet that lights up… Lol! If only such visual accoutrements were available in the UK! If only…
Breakfast — Changed daily, and delivered directly to your room. See pics.
Hosts — Just lovely. Warm, kind, and with more than a twinkle in their collective eyes…
Price — I booked directly with SMI, and was more than happy with the agreed charge.
Overview — I was genuinely sad to leave. I could have certainly stayed for another couple of day's. Whether Sun Moon Lake itself, provided the necessary reason to stay longer, is a moot point. In hindsight, three or even four nights rather than two, would have been perfect.
Recommended, without hesitation.

Very good experience! The hosts were very friendly, responsive and helpful with a lot of stuff including helping us navigate the lake and with transport to taichung city. The room is spacious and clean. Last but not least, they make very good breakfast!

What a lovely place to stay! The rooms were wonderful — the chargers, mosquito repellent device and fan were a lovely touch. The staff were so friendly and kind; one person was brand new to the role and the person training her was incredibly supportive of her (especially as English wasn't her first language). The breakfast and location were excellent. The room was very comfortable.

We had an outstanding stay at Sun Moon Inn. We had initially only booked 2 nights, but due to Super Typhoon Gaemi, pretty much everything in Taiwan shut down and we were unable to travel onwards to the next destination in our trip. The staff were really considerate of our situation — we were the only tourists left in the Inn as all other guests left before the typhoon stopped everything. We were assisted with booking an additional night through the Typhoon, and the staff were very generous with delivering us beautiful homemade meals. They didn’t need to do this — they were being kind and looking after us. We really loved our huge room and bathroom and really appreciate the staff looking after us through the typhoon.

We spent one night at Sun Moon Inn. The experience was beyond our expectations.
It’s in a great location, quiet but close to all the happenings at the port. The staff are super friendly and helpful! Five-star service! They make their own breakfast for the guests with fresh ingredients. Yummy with balanced nutrition. Rooms are super clean and thoughtfully designed. Will come back again!

I had an amazing stay at this hotel! The location is incredibly convenient—just a 5-minute walk from the bus station and right in the bustling town center, surrounded by delicious food options. The pier is only a 7-minute walk away, and the famous Yue Lao Temple, known for bringing good luck in love, is just 5 minutes away on foot.
This hotel operates as a private homestay, ensuring excellent security. You need a keycard to access the lobby, making it a perfect choice for solo travelers. The hotel is exceptionally clean and well-maintained—the cleanest I have ever stayed in! From the bedsheets to the floors and bathrooms, everything was spotless and dry. They even have a water purifier in the lobby for unlimited refills, which is a thoughtful touch.
We stayed in the Low Space room, which was incredibly spacious, with a balcony that made the space feel even more open. I believe even a group of five would be very comfortable in this room. The room is equipped with modern amenities like a Bluetooth speaker, an automatic trash can, a TV, and even a private Wi-Fi router for each room! The bed and blankets were extremely soft and pristine—you won’t find a single speck of dust here.
The entire building is beautifully designed, filled with natural light, and always smells fresh. It’s also incredibly quiet—I didn’t hear a single sound from other guests during my stay. The staff are exceptionally friendly, always quick to assist, and they speak basic English.

We had a wonderful stay at Sun Moon Inn. They upgraded us to a family room on the top floor with a view over-looking the mountains. The room was modern and spacious, very clean with various thoughtful details. Breakfast was delicious and healthy, and accommodating to our diet restrictions. The staffs were very pleasant and helpful, sending messages on restaurants suggestions as well as providing extra hot water bottle when it got cold one night. The weather was a bit chilly but we definitely enjoyed a warm stay.

This hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. Our room was spotless, and the thoughtful amenities—like the heated toilet seat, in-room speaker, and high-quality bath products—made our stay especially comfortable. The mosquito plug-in was a fantastic touch, especially for my partner, who usually gets bitten a lot.
Breakfast was a true showstopper, and the service throughout our stay was exceptional. Check-in was seamless, and on our last day, the hotel kindly stored our luggage so we could explore without worry. They even lent us an umbrella and helped us purchase discounted bike vouchers—when rain kept us from using them, they generously reimbursed us.
This hotel is a rare gem, combining outstanding hospitality with genuine care and attention to detail. We can’t recommend it highly enough!

Beware of unsympathetic owner. Note: I did not stay at the hotel.
I booked 3 rooms for my family. Upon checking out only 1 room was approved (see screen shot). I then canceled the one room and was charged 50% (US150). I called Agoda who informed me they will talk to the owner for waiver and wait for their reply. I wrote to hotel requesting for 3 rooms but no reply. 2days later James from the hotel said he couldn't refund because of policy and asked me to book again for 3rooms. I went to check and only 1 room is available. So I committed to another hotel because the rooms were running out quickly (maybe peak season). I continued to msg James via Agoda but he refused to even respond to my multiple msg. I explained that I had to cancel the one room because I need 3 rooms for my family of 5, and it wasn't my fault that they allowed me to book 3 room but was rejected upon checkout.
The hotel sets its own policy and can waive the charge if they wanted to. James has no compassion. I am deeply disappointed.

The hosts were super friendly and helpful, our bus leaves at 8am, but they made special arrangements for us to deliver breakfast earlier at 7.45am (usual breakfast timing is 8.30am). The room was clean and spacious too, highly recommended!

The staff were super welcoming and helpful. The room was very nice, clean and modern. The bed was comfortable. In-room breakfast is really tasty and they offer a vegetarian option, too. Great location. The facility is located in a residential building so there are some rules to be followed which, however, are reasonable and did not affect my stay at all. The reception area is super inviting with lots of cute touches. Communication was excellent.

Couldn’t be better, such an amazing hotel. The location is excellent; only 2-3 minutes walking to the main bus stop for the HSR. The room is spacious and absolutely sparkling clean. The staff is so kind and welcoming. The breakfast it brought to your room between 8:30-9:00 and so unbelievably tasty, beautiful, balanced and nutritious. We participated in the Sun Moon Lake marathon event, and this hotel was absolutely perfect as well. Only 2-3 minutes walking to the shuttle bus that goes to the starting line. Also, since the race was in the early morning, we came back around 11 so would have been too late for breakfast, but they prepared a nice welcoming meal for us anyway which was such a good reward after the run. I cannot recommend this place enough and we will certainly come back here. Thank you for everything and for making our stay so memorable!

An absolutely charming and comfortable inn with spacious rooms, comfortable beds, modern bath facilities, free Wi-Fi, and excellent breakfasts. If you visit Sun Moon Lake, Shuishe is a great place to stay as it offers boat tours from the harbor, bike trails, and lots of restaurants.
Hana, Nisa, and Elaine will take excellent care of you at the inn!

Sun Moon Inn truly is a gem for several reasons. As an inn, it offers extremely spacious rooms (ours had two king beds with balcony off the room) in an artfully designed, modern space that uses lots of wood and stone.
The inn is on the main street of the village of Shuishe, which offers boat tours at the harbor, bike trails, and lots of dining options.
The inn is capably and cheerfully run by three ladies—Nisa, Elaine, and Hana—and they really know how to treat their guests well. They are almost always reachable via What’s App and eager to help.
Breakfasts were ample, delicious, and beautiful. The lake is lovely and worth exploring on foot, bike, or boat.

It was the most comfy and cosy experience ever! I highly recommend this accommodation place. Host were also very friendly, breakfast was provided in the morning and I’d say the place is really safe too, as you will need an access pass to enter the place, so you can have a peace of mind when staying there :) The place was very clean and really spacious as well.
It is also near suishepier so you can easily walk and shop around the area. Right beside the inn there is also a place to rent your bikes and it is very convenient.
