Laurel Villa B&B

This is by far the best B&B I’ve been to. Well maintained, equipped with al necessaries, great communication, spacious two king size beds room in the family room that can accommodate 4 adults easily.
Breakfast is superb and mixed with Taiwanese and continental breakfast items.
The most memorable to my heart is the free bike tour guided by the B&B host that catches the beauty of early sunrise around the sun moon lake. The host shares the stories and history of the lake and the view along the bike ride is spectacular.

Amazing stay! Wished we stayed for a couple more days. Best part was their sunrise cycling tour — the guide was really knowledgeable about the history of Sun Moon Lake and we were greeted by an amazing sunrise despite the misty morning.
Came back to a good breakfast — good spread of taiwanese and continental selections. Room and toilet was really big and comfortable. Bed was hard so it was a good sleep!

We are the Thai group stayed btw 28-29 Dec 2025. The room and service are good. The breakfast gave the sense of being home, we love it!
Would recommend everyone to join the morning cycling tour with the owner! It’s the great experience! There are 2 cute buddies there who will accompany you all the way during cycling 🐶🐶

A Wonderful Stay at a Charming Family-Run B&B.
We had an excellent experience at this family-owned B&B. The entire property was exceptionally clean, well-kept, and truly comfortable—clearly cared for with pride. The rooms were spotless, cozy, and thoughtfully prepared, making for a very relaxing stay.
The home-cooked breakfast was a highlight. Every dish was fresh, delicious, and clearly made with care. It felt like enjoying a meal at a friend’s home rather than a typical hotel breakfast.
What truly sets this place apart are the owners. The husband-and-wife team were incredibly warm, friendly, and attentive throughout our stay. They made us feel genuinely welcomed from the moment we arrived.
Overall, this B&B exceeded expectations in every way. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable, and heartwarming place to stay. I will definitely return on my next visit to the area.

Don’t stay anywhere else in Sun Moon Lake, this is the place to be. We’ve been travelling around Asia for a few months and this was by far our favourite place which we’ve stayed, it has it all. Location, nice rooms, amazing staff. The owners in particular are such genuinely kind people. They offer a free bike tour at sunrise and I think it might be one of my favourite experiences ever. The scenery combined with the passion for Sun Moon Lake really was amazing. The rooms were clean, bright and spacious and the breakfast was good also. All this for incredible value, we were sad when we had to leave.

The location is convenient, the room was clean, and the owners were incredibly friendly. Don’t miss out on the bike tour! The owner gave us a bike tour of the best spots along the lake and was extremely helpful with recommendations on what to do and where to go around SML. Although early, the views were great. To add to the experience, there are also dogs in the neighborhood that join for the bike tour. Truly such a great experience — thank you Wayne & JD for an amazing start to our vacation!

I just visited Sun Moon Lake and stayed at Laurel Villa bed and breakfast. I highly recommend Laurel Villa for the following reasons:
1. The location is convenient. The bed and breakfast is located right across from Shuishe pier and about 3 minutes walk to the bus transit center. It is close to many shops, restaurants, the bike trail and Hanbi walk trail.
2. The room is spacious, clean, modern with a nice soaking bath tub, and comfy bed. We booked one king bed room. The room has a lot of space for our full size suitcases, a sitting area, coffee table with electric kettle and a small fridge. The best part is the nice bathtub in the covered balcony which we used every night to relax after a full day of activities.
3. Soundproofing in the room is excellent. Even though the B&B is located in the center of Shuishe, it is very quiet in the room and you don't hear any noises from other rooms.
4. Staff are friendly and helpful. The staff is so friendly and helpful. They make sure your stay is great and give you information on how to get someplace and how to enjoy Sun Moon Lake.
5. They offer free sunrise bike tour. The owner personally took us on the bike trail and shared the history of Sun Moon Lake in English and Mandarin. The sunrise bike tour takes about 2.5 hours and it is absolutely the highlight of our trip. The bike rental is a separate cost and they use a bike shop that charges only NT 100 for this sunrise tour.

Great to be back again after so many years. Receiving warm welcome from the owner and his wife still remain the same as before.
Nothing change except the scenery in the sky changed daily. Why? Because through the morning tour by bicycle you will be able to see different colors in the sky. Today can be very clear and nice view but tomorrow will be cloudy. Surrounding can be very quiet and peaceful but the next day can be different. In life we do face the same problem too so we need to appreciate what we have.
Last time we came we joined their morning walk and now they are having morning cycling tour. Different kind of experience and good to wake up early in the morning for the best view of Sun Moon Lake.
For those who loves traditional local Taiwanese breakfast, this is the best for my liking. Some dishes will change daily. We stayed there for 4 nights and never sick of their breakfast. They wake up as early as 5am to prepare the breakfast so that by 730am will be ready for everyone.
They really cares for everyone well being who stay in their villa by having the do and don’t. To ensure every one has a pleasant stay with them. One night our next door neighbor making so much noise after 9pm and suddenly tone down their voices. I believed having the do and don’t, help everyone who stay in the villa be more considerate for other. Not so much of we paid for our stay and we can do what we like.

Care versus Comfort.
There are places you stay for comfort, and then there are places you remember because of care. Laurel Villa in Sun Moon Lake is the latter, where heart and hospitality outweigh thread counts and marble tubs.
The standout of our stay was undoubtedly Mr. Chen, the owner, whose genuine warmth, humility, and pride in his village and heritage are rare. He personally took us on a 5am cycling tour around Sun Moon Lake, a quiet, soul-stirring experience we would never have accessed on our own. Watching the mist roll over the lake’s glassy surface with no one else around except birds and reflections was magical and made more so by his commentary, insight, and palpable love for the place he calls home.
The B&B itself is thoughtfully designed, with details that speak of a host who truly cares. From the tree-shaped notice board with handwritten messages to the tasteful blend of wood, iron, and minimalism, Laurel Villa balances simplicity with elegance. It doesn’t pretend to be a luxury hotel but it offers something more: authenticity.
Our room was comfortable and clean, with just the right touches, no excess, no clutter. The breakfast was quietly excellent: fresh, local, nourishing, and unpretentious. Even the tea felt curated.
Location-wise, the villa is perfect, just steps from the Shuishe Pier, but tucked away enough to feel personal and peaceful.

Had an amazing stay! My friends had flown into Taipei at 5 am the morning we arrived at the hotel and the hosts offered to make up our room early.
For us to rest in if we wanted to check in early. We also were leaving early the next morning, and the hosts woke up early just to make breakfast for us. Amazing people and beautiful hotel!

The hotel is well-decorated, with clean rooms and a great location.
I had read positive reviews and was looking forward to joining the morning bike ride. However, the lady owner didn’t encourage or promote it, saying the weather might not be suitable—even though the forecast predicted sunshine. I was really disappointed.
Next morning, The weather turned out to be beautiful, with clear skies just as the forecast had predicted!
I later met the other, older lady owner—she was much kinder and more pleasant.

The accommodation is clean and cozy with full amenities. It’s conveniently located right across from Shuishe Pier. Above all, what truly stands out is the excellent service and the genuine care from the hotel owner. I was especially impressed with the morning bike tour program and highly recommend joining it with the hotel owner. It’s a great way to experience Sun Moon Lake from a local’s perspective, learn about its history, and discover hidden, peaceful spots with stunning views that aren’t crowded with tourists. You’ll get to see the true beauty of Sun Moon Lake—especially if you head out in the early morning.

As someone who doesn't usually leave reviews, I felt like I had to with Laurel Villa.
Family owned with great hospitality (they clearly care about your experience at SML). Room was spotless and the breakfast was really good. Do not miss out on the sunrise bike tour they provide because it is fantastic! Very inexpensive stay for what they offer.

Our trip to sunmoon lake was made wonderful and special because of the warmth and hospitality of the lovely people at this minsu. My kid loved the sunrise cycling trip! Their lovely dog 长毛 who followed us through the cycling trip was super cute too. Thank you for the special memories ❤️

We truly enjoyed our 2 night stay at Laurel Villa. We highly recommend this hotel. JD was very helpful when we checked into the hotel. She provided us with useful information every time we asked questions.
The best part of our stay was the biking tour with the home owner at 5:40 AM. In the beginning, my husband complained about having to wake up early while on vacation & wanted to skip the bike ride. However, in the end he gave in & admitted that it was the best part of staying at Sun Moon Lake. My husband is now adamant about vacationers should not skip out on the bike tour with the owner. The owner not only knew the best locations to take us, but at every location he gave us a brief history about the lake & explained in detail about each area; he made sure we reached our top destination before the sunrise, so that we could truly see the beautiful changes of the lake before dawn & during the sunrise. He's also a very good photographer who has an eye for aesthetic & took beautiful photos of us while on the bike tour.
The owner is very passionate about sharing his hometown. He wanted to truly share the beauty of the Sun Moon Lake at its finest is very early in the morning, away from all the tourists & the bustling of many bicyclists. This is when we could truly feel peace & serenity by taking it all in from the lake's natural beauty.
We would highly recommend everyone who stays at Laurel Villa to ask JD about the bike tour with the owner (depending on the weather).

We just completed a comfortable 2 nights stay here. A warm and hospitable BnB. We joined the sunrise bicycle tour led by the owner. Despite being novice riders, we enjoyed the tour and were grateful the owner took great care of our safety. He was passionate and obviously had deep knowledge of the area. Breakfast was a homely and healthy fare which the owner's wife put much thought into the daily menu. On our checkout day, one of us didn't feel well. I was touched by the owner's wife gesture. She welcomed us to take a rest at the lobby and came over to check on us and stayed with us till our transport arrived. This feels like home and we highly recommend it. 👍👍👍

When we checked in, the hostess carefully introduced local food and transportation information, which was very helpful. The owner Wayne provided us with interesting and detailed explanations of the attractions. We highly recommend the early morning bicycle tour！👍❤️
