All the staff are excellent. Special commendations to Carola and Julian — they have been extremely helpful, patient, competent and friendly whenever we have any questions about either the hotel or the town or whenever we are seeking advice in general regarding transport or weather or directions. Thank you.
Glad transport from train was available but driver not particularly friendly. Reception friendly and inviting. Overall hotel had a somewhat well worn feel to it. Friends had decent size room, ours was noticeably smaller which didn't make sense. Most disappointing aspect of hotel was dining area. Very uninviting. Dark and gloomy at night and just as gloomy for breakfast which was pretty basic. Extremely unimpressive head waiter. Unfriendly and unhelpful. Food and coffee "blah. " Not our best hotel experience. Additionally, Saturday night and almost everything in town was closed and dead.

In a town known for scale and spectacle, Crystal Hotel provides a more human level. It’s right in the centre, a short walk from the Chantarella funicular. It quickly became a family favourite anchor in St. Moritz.
We first stayed for a week in February. As a winter base it was exactly right. Ski boots off and warming downstairs in the valet’s boot room. Lift straight up to the rooms. A separate entrance onto the pavement made early starts and late returns in ski clobber easy.
Our room had proper proportions by Swiss standards. Warm timber, traditional cabinetry, a writing desk, generous storage. Carpet underfoot. Quiet at night despite being so central. The bathroom was marble-clad with a full bath. Solid rather than showy. Very comfortable.
Breakfast gave us a strong start to an energetic day. Swiss cheeses and cured meats, fresh bread, eggs, smooth coffee. Unhurried and calm.
Relaxed evenings at Restaurant Grissini with excellent Italian dishes. Fresh pasta, well-made risotto, a strong menu full of choice. Afterwards, deep sofas, wood fire burning, a pianist. Our youngster bobbing along in front of the fire will remain one of those small, favourite memories.
After that stay we found ourselves back, winter and summer. On later winter trips we would take the funicular down, choose Crystal for lunch. The lounge became part of the day. In Summer, we drove up from Como and had lunch on the terrace in the sun.
Service was always friendly and quietly attentive.
