Ok, this place is a MUST DO. (Sorry for shouting! ) I stayed here for a week, mainly doing yoga but also enjoying their delicious breakfasts — everyday is a surprise breakfast and you’re asked at outset if there’s any foods you can’t eat or don’t like. The yoga shala is around the back of the hotel up a hill with amazing views of the sea and beach with fishermen going about their lives. The yoga teacher Claire is an absolute gem. I wanted to get up for yoga every morning just to make her proud. She helped tweak things for me (and my weird body) and was so professional (but fun) and positive the whole time. The room was spacious, I had my own bathroom and had a really lovely comfortable week stay. Optional air con if required for an additional fee. The other great thing about this place is it unites people if you’re travelling solo. We eat out (or takeaway in) with everyone staying there every night (also optional) and we get taken to the best restaurants. So you really get to know everyone well. Thoroughly recommend this, loved my stay here.

Absolutely amazing experience! Great vibe, feels like coming home after a day of surfing. Everyday they serve you a different healthy breakfast — each time delicious! The yoga teacher Claire is the best i’ve ever had (vinyasa and yin). At night there’s a social dinner with the group, they will show you the best places in town (akila, coconut beach, doctor’s house, El pecado and many others). They also have the cutest little shop inside basecamp if you forgot to bring your bathing suit or white Tshirt (also check out the jewellery! ). In sum: an unforgettable week :)

Basecamp is the perfect place to relax, meet nice people and enjoy the vacation in Sri Lanka. Starting the day with a Yoga class at the platform from where you have a perfect view over the harbour and Weligama beach. After Yoga you can enjoy the super delicious breakfast which is made by the owners every morning. We got everyday something else for breakfast and it tasted just amazing. The rooms are clean and there is also a little chill out area on the first floor and outside in the garden where you can also practice your slackline skills or enjoy the view on the swing. But the best part at Basecamp are the people we met and especially the owners: super nice and friendly people. We felt more than welcomed and enjoyed hanging out with them at bars and restaurants. They also helped us what to do in and around Weligama and organized trips like safari or airport shuttle. If I could give more than 5 stars, you would definitely get it :-) We will come back to Basecamp hostel!

Absolutely loved our stay here, so much so that we extended from 4 nights to 8! The location was perfect, just a couple of minutes walk from the beach where there are plenty of options for renting surfboards / having surf lessons. The staff were really friendly and helped us to arrange our trips to the national park & whale watching. Plus there was always an invitation to join a group dinner each evening which would be great for solo travellers. Add to that the fact there is an on-site yoga shala and an epic breakfast served each morning, it's not surprising that we didn't want to leave! We'll definitely be back!

I started my Sri Lanka vacations in Weligama at the basecamp and could not have ask for a better place to start. The girls and Vincent where super nice and fun to hang out with! I really enjoyed the nights with good food, cocktails and Werwolf! The breakfast was just AWESOME and the best one I had in Sri Lanka — every day something different and always fresh juice. The location with its view on the ocean is really great and especially surfer souls will love the basecamp. There are lots of surf spots in walking distance and you can surf even in off-season. It's super clean and comfortable and the platform for yoga in their back yard is super cool since you got an amazing view from up there. After travelling around in Sri Lanka I came back for my last days because I just loved their place and didn't have enough off yummy breakfast yet. Thanks for a lovely time at the basecamp guys! If I'm ever back in Weligama I'll come again. I would definitely recommend that place if you look for a chill place to hang out with. The three of them put a lot of work and love into that place. :)
