I found the room cramped and dark — it was claustrophobic. Even though the hotel has some charm, I couldn't understand why breakfast couldn't be served at both sites, avoiding the walk down the street.

This hotel is in a perfect location to explore galle fort. The hotel is in a historic building, so you get a real sense of colonial galle. tip : they do have free Wi-Fi.

Very nice quiet setting in a small shady courtyard! Correct food without more, a bit expensive, oriented not bad Western food.

Maybe just a busy night, but my experience was not the best but fair. Booked a table in advanced but still got another one next to bar, after 1 hour of waiting. As sitting next to the bar, many people came here to smoke, so constantly little messy. Food was good, but service a little confused and got wrong dishes and few forgotten drink orders. Really beautiful setting thou and people around me really enjoyed themselves, so I was just very unlucky this night.

For starters we had the vegetarian samosas and the king prawns with mango/Chilli neither were that great prawns quite small and Chilli just sweet Chilli sauce and the samosas were more deep fry than bursting with filling. However the mains were amazing! Sesame encrusted tuna w/ a tangy salad Japanese style and pan seared tuna with pumpkin mash. I recommend getting 3 mains between 2 people because these two dishes were perfectly cooked and fresh, a real treat for us after month long curry diet. All up with 4 large beers we paid about SR8500.

Such a beautiful place. The colonial architecture and the whole feel of being surrounded by so much history is just perfect. The food was great, especially the desserts. Our room was comfortable but we did have a slight issue with the amenities which the staff were gracious enough to fix on request. Very laid back and the kind of place you want to go back to. And then there's Trevor the Cat who is such a great host!

What a lovely place this is! Very very friendly staff. They have 4 properties… each one is awesome in its own way. Would like to go back to stay at the same place in my next visit.

Nice and relaxing ambiance… food is OK but quite slow to serve to the table. Maybe it's already the best in Galle… my husband asked for a passion fruit juice without ice as he was a bit ill… They made it wrong and the water at the bar was trying just to take out the ice… 'unfortunately', he splashed it all out so had to make a new one… We would give it 5 stars if we didn't see this happening… Overall a nice place to have causal dinner.

Had a delicious evening meal in a haven after a long day's travel. Great fresh fish!

Ambience is pretty. Service is fine. Food wasn't really the best and its was very average. Its a pity that the owners have done a wonderful job putting a lovely resturant and not much consideration given to the heart of it.

A great place to relax with a few beers it has a lovely atmosphere. I've not eaten here but what I saw being served up looked pretty appetising too.

Best place for a vacation.

Excellent holiday venue in the historic Galle Fort.

Great building, rooms are tastefully decorated and expertly restored.

Breakfast was average and the staff in the restaurant was not really welcoming. Be also aware that the review of the restaurant on the lonely planet doesn't reflect at all the reality. The food is less than average, bland taste and not a fusion interpretation of Sri Lankan cuisine but it is international cuisine. The food also had a frozen taste. Would not recommend to dine there.

Food — absolutely amazing (5 stars) Service — needs polishing. (3 stars) Had prawns and fish dishes. Tasty, great flavours, well presented. Drinks ran dry and empty plates hung around before being cleared. Had to ask for a dessert menu. Once the manager knocked of the night, the Waiters made it clear it's time to leave. Made it very uncomfortable.

The Hotel is with its location in the Galle Fort is the ideal starting point for exploratory walks through this historic district. The whole house is very stylishly decorated and the Restaurant in the courtyard of the former spice memory is a real eye-catcher. Breakfast is offered in addition to the almost everywhere of the usual continental option is also the sri Lankan Breakfast, which you should give a try. We have not found during our tour that this is, unfortunately, a matter of course. Our room was unfortunately quite small and was on the road side of the hotel. Even if there's not too much traffic, it can happen that you will be ripped off by a passing Tuktuk from sleep.

Im very interesting here~ All of Lunch menu is nice n price is good. The wall in dining is quite a impressive.

As guests of "Middle st" at Fortaleza, we had a couple of meals here that were quite good. There is not a lot of selection but it's usually the sign of freshly prepared meals so it's OK however, we found it hard to make a choice as there was always something that we disliked in the suggestions. They try to offer a mix of western and local cuisine but the choice of ingredients are sometimes questionable… For one dinner, as we were starving and were having the hardest time deciding what to eat, we asked if the chef could make us something simple but with just ingredients we liked. He came to our table and managed to make a delicious personalized meal just for us! Quite a good cook…

The best restaurant! All the advice.

Review is for restaurant. Pleasant courtyard ambiance. Good service. Menu dominated by SL twists on global cuisine — — you will find fajitas and burgers and shakes and affogato. Had the mahi mahi and prawn pesto pasta which were both great. A solid choice in Galle and surely among the best in old town.

Service excellent Had the Mahi Mahi as the main it was ok Certainly be back.

Came here for dinner only. Gorgeous intimate setting. Food menu was small, but some tantalising options. I opted for peppered tuna as a starter, spicy seafood with coconut gravy for main & a traditional Sri Lankan desert of curd & a sticky sauce (like treacle). All was yummy & reasonably priced for an upmarket restaurant.

Really great food and drinks. Fast and lovely people — quick in service. Lovely patio and quite surrounding. We enjoyed it very much!

Was here for two nights in Dec 2015. The food is good, although choices are limited. Room is clean with old worldly charm. The staff are warm warm and very hospitable. The bright eyed young lady, Krishni, at the reception/office warrants special mention on this account .

Excellent cuisine of seafood with a tender touch "Welsh"

Was here two years ago many times excellent food and stellar service. Glad to report still spot on. Great garden with many places to sit in the shade.
