Upali Beach Surf Resort & Café

Only had coffee here but if location is key this place is a must. Best views of an amazing surf break. Very chilled, as the sign said if you are in a hurry, come back tomorrow.

Nice place at the best surf of Arugam. Chilled vibe, good food. Bit pricey though.

Relaxing way from main part of Aragum Bay. Great walk along the beach, be careful at night coming along the beach, bring a torch.

We had the pleasure of staying overnight in the beautiful beach cabanas that have managed to maintain the authenticity of the local area as well as being clean and tidy. The cabana provides you with the combined feeling of being in a jungle tree house as well as a surf cottage right on the beach. Don't miss the chance of grabbing a post surf/swim hot chocolate, setting yourself up in the tower and watching the waves roll by. Alex and the rest of the staff were exceptionaly friendly and helpful with any questions we had and it was a fantastic finish to our month long trip in Sri Lanka.

Easy beach surf resort is a wonderful place with extremely friendly people. The cook is very good and they are right on the beach. I became friends with the staff on the first day that I was here. 10 out of 10 I would recommend this place when visiting Arugam Bay!

Great location, and good bites.

Came here because of the good reviews, but was completeley disappointed. "Rooms" are cheap, offer little protection from wind or rain or insects coming at you at night. I would prefer any cheap tent on the beach over that. Bathrooms etc. Are outside, so once again, a lot of insects and stuff you do not want there. Also not really well cleaned.
Food is edible, but neither good nor cheap. Overall it is completely overpriced, do not go here!

Absteige. In case you don't know this german word, let me elaborate. It's used for a hotel or guesthouse that supplies the bare minnimum, but nobody who has a choice would stay there. The Hotel itself is located directly on the beach, which is actually quite nice. It offers some food (breakfast, no dinner while we were here), which compared to neighboring shops is a little overpriced (by that I mean twice the price), but "ok" according to other people staying here. I did not try it. You can walk into the city, but to get here you have to walk quite a few meters on the beach, since there is no road. Can be very romantic, can also be annoying af if you have a backback. I dare to say impossible if you have a suitcase. There are sunbeds and hammocks on the beach. There are surfboards and instructors available. I don't surve, so I can't judge the following, but during my stay I have been told that the quality is rather low, the price on the other hand pretty high. I have no idea about surfing outside the internet, so you will have to judge for yourselfes. The staff is friendly, but not very helpful. Even the question for a restaurant in the area (no dinner during our stay) remained unanswered. The rooms is a chapter itself. Cabana-like, but not really thought through. Walls are made out of something like a tent fabric, roofs of palmleaves. Interior as basic as you can imagine. Since it was raining during our stay seeing the stars from my bed is also not a plus.

Basic resort. In a most perfect spot. Called the Jewel in the Crown. The best place on the entire island. Maybe. Next to awesome sand dunes and right on the main surf point. Good burgers we hear!

All you need is oceanocean is all you need! Great location — just in front of the hottest surfer's spot — Main Point. So you can watch all this cool tricks on the waves since sunrise till sunset from the terrace of your bungalow. It's amazing how Upali changes! During the day it's crowded and surfer's life is lived there: row adrenaline, a burst of emotions and amazing people from all over the World, — love this atmosphere! But my favorite time at Upali is evening: it's so tranquil, far away from everything, at the edge of the bay, just sound of the ocean, slight breeze and night skey full of stars.

Great spot and daybeds. The prices are reasonable for Arugam but the food isn't wow. We ordered one jaffle which was pretty small but the shakshuka was good. They also don't have coffee machine. They didn't have bottles so they wanted to charge for one glass of water 50 rupees! In the end they didn't charge us for that which was nice. Overall I think they can improve the service and the place will be much more pleasant.

Overpriced for what is essentially a hut on the beach with table cloths for towels.

Great service, you can come and catch a tan, surf, eat drink or just relaxing.

A great view and an amazing spot to grab a drink or something to eat and sit down to watch the waves and surfers at the main point. The service was really nice and friendly as well.

Very disappointing. Had food here and paid a horrendous amount for nothing. Imagine you order two eggs sunny side up with cheese (+Rs. 150) and they give you a processed triangle of creme cheese, the stuff that costs nothing in supermarkets.

Pure paradise! Amazing place, the location its unique, the mannagement and staff are nice and friendly. Highly recomended, the best place to chill after a great surf session at main point or just to relax with an awesome view under the coconut trees. Really good vibes at the bar.

Best food, best view, and best staff. I live in New York and haven't had better french fries. I still think about those french fries. Yum. The sandwiches are super good, tasty and fresh without being heavy. The menu changes daily based on what is available so you can tell it is fresh. We had an amazing prawn salad which was perfect with the heat. It's the best spot in Arugam to watch surfing. It's great to relax and watch the talent, super inspiring. Dope spot.
