We were driving through the Basque Country en route to Portugal, travelling with our dog.
This proved far much more than just a stay over. A lovely spot and destination in itself close to a pretty village with a beautiful medieval church. The hotel has a nice garden to relax in, but is surrounded by lovely countryside to walk or cycle around, including a 12 km disused railway line. It is also very well situated to explore the Basque country, the Rioja wine region and Bilbao.
So we definitely intend to return to stay for a few nights.
The hotel is 4 star and deserves it. It is the former home of the proprietors and now managers, Itziar and her husband, who converted the building very sympathetically and tastefully into a boutique hotel consisting of just 10 rooms. Ours was a spacious, spotlessly clean premium room on the first floor with a very comfortable bed and lovely decor, free standing bath and en suite bathroom looking out onto the directly accessible garden.
We had a lovely meal and sumptuous breakfast in a nice dining room.
Uncharacteristically — we’ve found for much of Spain, our dog was welcomed.
We wholeheartedly recommend it.
