The room was clean and cosy but the restaurant lacked vegetarian options.

I’m not posting this review lightheartedly. I’ve been trying to reach out to the chef in question, Christopher Peppas, and the owner, Nikki van Rillaer for a week, with no reaction. The short version is that our family, with three young children, were basically frog marched out of the restaurant in front of all the patrons, after an argument about pasta that was cold. The long version: On 22/12/2017 our family visited Old Mill restaurant for a quick lunch on our way — me, my wife, Magriet, and our three children. Once we sat down and ordered drinks, I noticed on the menu that the prices were hiked up considerably since our last visit. I noticed that a burger with sauce was R120, which I though was excessive. But I accept that an entrepreneur is entitled to charge whatever they feel is good. Taking into account the cost we decide to stick to some sandwiches and two plates of chips (R45 per plate) and a pasta with pesto for my son. The food (including some wrong orders) were served 50 minutes after we entered the restaurant, but we were OK with that. All the food was served except for my son’s pasta, which only arrived ten minutes later. It arrived without the pesto and cheese that was supposed to go with it. My son immediately said that the pasta was cold, upon which my wife touched it and confirmed that it was actually really cold. With us now in a hurry, Magriet took the plate back to the kitchen and gave it back to a waitress and asked her to please warm it up.

We had a very upsetting incident here on 22 December when Chef Christopher Peppas threw our whole family out of Old Mill restaurant after I complained about cold food. This is what happened: We ordered toasted sandwiches and a pesto pasta, which took 50 mintues to emerge from the kitchen. The pasta was overcooked and cold (and I mean REALLY COLD), with no pesto or cheese. I took it back to the kitchen for a warm up and to ask for the extras. Chef reacted very bad to this — he told me he disagreed, the pasta was definitely warm. I asked him to touch it but he refused. An argument ensued about this and next thing he grabbed the plates from under my children's noses in such a way that cutlery and chips spilled over the table and ordered us to leave or else… he will call SAPS and have us removed. We left, of course, under the perplexed stares of many other patrons. In the mean time we have tried to contact the owner, Nikki van Rillaer on her cell phone, the landline and on email to discuss the incident, but no reply. I am furious. Never ever before have I been treated like this. We are stunned, humiliated, wronged. For absolute and utter nonsense.

We have been visiting the Old Mill Guest house for 10 years and just love the tranquillity and welcome we always receive.

A group of us went to the restaurant on Saturday night. On entering there were no staff members around. Whilst we were there two English couples entered and sat around for approx. 10 mins before a waiter appeared to attend to them. They eventually got up and walked out. I had lamb curry, two pieces of meat and the rest bone.

We used to eat out here every time we came to Swellendam. The good and setting was lovely however the service was usually very slow and not up to scratch which is a shame, so we stopped frequenting here.

Great homemade Sunday lunch, lovely views and outdoor seating is great. Friendly staff with excellent service.

Awesome burgers and international beers (specifically Belgian ones), with some really nice specials well worth the drive!

My experience at the restuarant was very poor. The food was not up to standard and does not match the prices. I could have gone across the street and have a much better meal for much less. They did allow our dog to come in (thus one extra star)

Very bad Wi-Fi and we had to wait hours for our dinner. Breakfast was not sufficient.
