Quite a good hangout with interesting people, staff a bit slow sleepy though.

Absolutely worth every penny. Modern, comfortable, trendy, well located, good breakfasts and amazing staff.

A cute hidden vibe in De Waterkant, The Charles Café offers dark roast coffees, a killer haddock eggs benedict and a secret hidden garden vibe that makes a morning about town feel like an escape in the winelands. Menu is affordable (by Cape Town eatery standards) and offers clear, simple options without overwhelming you. Waitrons were attentive while respectful of our catch-up and conversation. A great experience all-round.

What an utter disappointment! We stayed here in June without any problems so we decided to book here again but what a horrible experience. The place literally fell apart! Bulbs falling out of it's sockets. Walls cracked. Paint falling off the walls. Place not clean and old bread and cat food scattered in the courtyard — had to ask housekeeping on the second day to clean it! We had to call maintenance to replace bulbs not working. This is unacceptable especially for the prices they charge.

Very relaxed café in a quiet area. Especially suitable for breakfast and lunch. My friend ordered a French Toast + flat white and I mine gnocchi's + freshly squeezed orange juice. It was all delicious and the service is very attentive, extraordinarily friendly (but without being set up to work). The café also has a roof terrace, but it was closed when we were there. Otherwise there are seats inside, as well as outside under a shady tree. Highly recommended.

Nice rooms in a central zone of the city. The first room we had was very close to the bar in the inside, and no way to sleep after 6 in the morning. We asked to change, and the second room we had was much better, silent and with a nice view.

Service took way too long! We asked for toast with eggs and yoghurt. I think they had to wait for the chickens to lay the eggs. (?! ) Even a bottle of water is too much to ask for. Never going back.

The staff are lovely but alas, the eggs are cold the toast not toasted and the mushrooms leave you wanting. It's a pity because it's such a lovely setting but As hard as I tried I just couldn't enjoy the food.

The De Waterkant house was beautiful and the rooms were stunning. Hennie, the caretaker was friendly and helpful. There are a few points that prospective travelers should be aware of; There were not extra blankets in the room which on a cold night in the middle of winter will be sorely missed. There were no mini toiletries in the bathrooms. The coffee and tea bar was nice, but nondescript. On the whole the experience of a stay with them will be a positive one, but small changes could go a long way to putting then a cut above the rest.

Great service, lovely view and the best Hot Chocolate. Also really good shortbread cookies!

Amazingly cozy boutique hotel with that touch of imperfection that makes hidden gems like these so perfect :)
