Absolutely amazing experience. The Backpack has everything… even when it’s packed you can still find a quiet place to read in the gardens or by the pool. Beautiful braai in the courtyard on Tuesdays and such a beautiful family vibe all around. In addition to being the best hostel in Africa — they also give back so much to the Cape Town community. This is a perfect place to stay for a few days or perhaps a few months. Thank you so much, Toni & Lee! ♥️

They are one of the best you can find in the western cape city bowl… They have the best views of Table Mountain. Lions head. Signal Hill. And awesome people working there as well with management tight security and easy access to the city and V&A water front…

It’s a basically adequate hostel experience. Good value for money. It has a stunning view of the Table Mountain. The staff are friendly and helpful and there is ample parking.

Stayed in the tented private 'room' and it's so cozy. I absolutely love it and think the value for money is great. I wish I could've stayed more than the one night. I can't wait to stay again sometime. :)

I have never been treated the way I was at this very moment… the Security at the door has no respect and treated us like criminals demanding room keys for us to come in when 4 white guys walked through the gate and not even one question was asked… he brags about looking at video footage plz look at it and tell me Im lying … he is out of line and has no respect for day visitors or patrons staying a night or longer … I'm disgusted … the service I received from recepti…on on my arrival visiting my friend was amazing from the lady at reception and then to end my day like this is pathetic. to think I was supposed to stay the night after this happened I rather left and found a other place. He was completely aggressive and had no way in talking to us. Even one of the other staff members had to come calm him down in his rant and even agreed that his over reacting and due to no management being on site at that moment he was allowed to act this way … this is just sad and disturbing.

Really nice place with fantastic people running it. Breakfast is very generous and it's comfy. Also, the fact that it's socially responsible is really nice. Toni and Lee are managing it amazingly well. Will come back for sure :-)

This place is amazing! I booked months in advance and the staff was very helpful over email. You have the option to call them but it was easier for me to speak via email. I stayed three nights and was not disappointed. The room was great, staff were super friendly, and the other backpackers were also nice. It is a cozy home away from home. It is in a great location with plenty to do within walking distance or a short Uber ride away. The Backpack cats are awesome as well.

The Backpack is the best place to stay in Cape Town. Make friends, go to explore the city with them, play games at the bar and enjoy the Braai night on Tuesday… I will keep so many good memories of this hostel! The staff is super friendly, always available to help you. The breakfast buffet is perfect.
The hostel is close to the city center and it's easy to go everywhere by uber in 10 or 15 minutes! I really recommend this place!

The Backpack personnel, starting with the owner who seemed to be ever present as she met, welcomed and conversed with patrons. The personnel were extremely helpful, the programs and facilities very nice, and The Backpack is clearly extremely responsible and yet most helpful of patrons as Cape Town goes through its drought. A really fun place.

Fun lively place, with a really excellent breakfast buffet considering it's a hostel. They are very environmentally and communally conscious, so I think they deserve to be supported. My only negative was that my mattress was a bit soft.

Super backpack, the frame is super beautiful, it is ideally located close to the city center, the bosses and employees are all super cool!

Amazing views of the mountains around Cape Town. 5 min walk to Kloof street. Friendly staff. The complex consists of several old houses. Very open and friendly atmosphere. Gate with security code and a entry office make you feel safe.

A small hotel, nice, the rooms are simple but the hotel is well located on the road to Table Mountain, breakfast is plentiful!

No words can explain what a amazing stay I had there. I spent four days at the beautIful Backpack. What a amazing time, beautiful friendly people amazing Bar area friendly very helpful staff big ups to Andrew who works there very helpful guy always willing to help if you’ll ever looking for place to stay in Cape Town this is definitely the place to be and very affordable. Will definitely be back to stay on my next trip it’s my new home thanks you for a awesome stay. Keep up the Good work.

I stayed here 8/22/7 to 8/27/17. I loved this place. The hostel does a great job with everything! They plan events well, have great cookouts, the view of Table Mountain is great, and they are the most helpful staff I've ever had in my travels. They helped me book multiple excursions, even helping me fix an issue with a whale watching company. Breakfast was always a great experience, which is included in your stay. Everyone in the kitchen is always joyful and singing and the food is delicious. I would recommend this hostel to anyone, 1000x over.

Staff is awesome, it's very very clean with great breakfast and it's centrally located in a safe area only a few minutes walk to Long Street.

Look, there's nothing particularly terrible about this place. The hosts are kind and helpful (especially the breakfast crew — — Go Free Breakfast! ). I guess the one downer about this place for me was that it was totally geared towards the "young & hip college crowd\travelers. Would I come back here again? Yes — — probably because l make sure to go for the single\private room. Makes it totally worth it.

So cute, it's like a tiny colorful town as opposed to a hostel. Bright hangout areas, great decor, knowledgeable staff. The pool is gorgeous and hidden away. There is a nice garden area to relax in as well! — Alyne.

Wonderful hostel located in the middle of everything! Walk to the majority of the touristy places (Company Gardens, etc). Great crowd of people always around the bar as well. Would stay here instead of a fancy hotel 5/5 times.

Nice and good place with lots of different rooms and the best staff ever, they will offer good help with organising trips and other tours. Thanks to them I could make the best travelplans. And the best treasure is Bronwyn the lovely lady who runs the cafe. She offers great food for a low price and gives you such a warm feeling.

Absolutely brilliant hostel a stone's away from Table Mountain. The staff were super friendly and accommodating and special shout out to Clare the intern and Jabulani the bartender! The atmosphere was great and the decor was top notch. Also mustn't forget to mention the great selection of breakfast options and the pool. Shower facilities were great too and there was always hot water. All in all, a great stay. Will definitely use The Backpack next time I'm in Cape Town!

Well kept and cozy hostel with free breakfast. Convenient location but does get quite cold during winter nights as there is no heat. Extra blankets are provided.

Extremely kind and amazing people (both hosts and backpackers), safe and amazing location (2 blocks away from Long Street), beautiful view from the bedrooms (Table Mountains), very fair price, etc… I highly recommend this hostel for anyone traveling in Cape Town and interested in meeting new, absolutely incredible people!

This place was perfect. The staff will do anything to help. The breakfast was filling and the garden was the best place for meeting other travellers. This is where I will be again when I come back to Cape Town.

It's a beautiful friendly place with all the modern amenities. It's close to the city and all the restaurant is around. Secure and value for money.

My first thought of this hostel was that it was just okay, but after staying there for a few days, I really loved the vibe! Everyone was super welcoming and friendly. People tended to congregate in the central patio by the bar. Their daily breakfast is also a really nice treat. The location also is pretty decent, as you can walk to a few areas. Uber is accessible in South Africa, though, so best to use that. A couple of downsides: — Bring a power strip… tough to find plugs in the rooms — Aside from breakfast, no food at the hostel. You'll want to grab food while you're out and about.

Just concluded my third stay at the Zebra. Clean, calm, safe, friendly and helpful staff, close but not too close to the hustle and bustle of CT and very much value for money. Definitely my favourite place to stay in town (and I've stayed at a few). A bit of a secret gem really. Highly recommended.

The Backpack is South Africa's original backpacker that invests in people and communities, giving meaningful and relaxed, travel experiences. It is a urban hip hostel and would recommend it to anyone.

What makes the Back Pack special is that they are the backpackers in Cape Town that set the new standard when it was needed, and keep investing in that good atmosphere. They keep setting a great standard for backpacking in the city, for both local and international visitors. I have recommended The Back Pack to visiting friends over the last 5 years.

Safe and clean backpackers in a nice location. Clientele is friendly as are the staff. The price might be a bit higher than other backpackers but you make up for it in quality. This would probably not be the place to go if your m. O. Is nonstop partying. It's the kind of place you stay if you want to relax and not worry about all your things being stolen when you're not in the room.
