We came for a friends wedding and had no idea what to expect. Our stay has been truly memorable and very special. The staff have been incredible and the executive chef, Justin, is a magician — his food is absolutely amazing. We are so sorry we have to leave tomorrow to start our journey home. We really hope to be back here again in the future.

Beautiful settings but that’s where it ends…. Travelled from Ballito with international guests expecting top standards that Hartford promises… Had a Sunday Lunch that was very below average…tasteless, dry…oversold and underdelivered on all courses!

This was definitely a memorable visit to Hartford House. The refurbishments are amazing. The lakeside suites have been completely transformed and ours was beautifully designed, spacious, functional and clean. Thank you to the cleaning staff who work really hard to keep the hotel and our accommodation clean. It’s always a blessing to connect with the wildlife and the beautiful horses. We even shared our space and especially our pool with a pair of swallows…it was such a treat. The location and setting is just breathtaking and peaceful. Thank you Chef Paul for three nights of excellent food and for accommodating our dietary requirements. Thank you also to sous chef Justin for sharing your recipes with me. Maybe a return of those hearty soups and the traditional Zulu mielie meal porridge for breakfast? I would like to also thank the warm and friendly staff for their excellent service. Nombuso made all the arrangements prior to our stay and consistently checked in with us to make sure we were comfortable, and the in-room spa service was excellent. Thenjiwe was very warm and accommodating and a big thank you especially to Thobelani for your friendly and thoughtful service-always helpful and a smile through your mask. Finally, Maretha, you have transformed Hartford House to its former beauty. Congratulations on reclaiming your 5 star status. You have done a spectacular job. Under the new ownership and your management, welcome back Hartford House!

What an amazing experience. My husband and I just want to thank each and everyone at Hartford house for our memorable weekend at your hotel. This was most certainly the best 1st year wedding anniversary vacation destination ever. Our home, view, food, service etc was on point and beyond excellent. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

All I can say is wow wow wow this a place you have to put on your bucket list. The food is unbelievable. The staff are wonderful. The place is so peaceful and beautiful. 10/10.

It was a special family celebration shared with close friends and it could not have taken place in a more outstanding environment; Hartford House is a very special Place. Food was wonderful, service and attention impeccable. First visit, but not the last. An aside note for Google Maps. Your directions were lousy — we got so lost that we arrived 45 min after our guests. Work on that one.

Truly one of the best hidden gems in the Midlands just outside Mooiriver. Peace and quiet. Surrounded with endless hills, valleys and stunning views. Horse riding, fishing, tennis, cycling, swimming, hiking and so much more to do. Really an amazing place and every penny spent well.

We went there for our first anniversary and what a special occasion it was at Hartford House. There is such attention to detail that not a lot of other establishments have. The hosts were friendly and attentive. The rooms are well decorated. The views are amazing. The food is divine and worth every penny. Thank you to our hosts for making a special occasion that much more special. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful establishment in the countryside which is approximately 150 years old. Well maintained gardens and hotel. Friendly staff and amazing 3 course meals which change daily. The element of surprise is key with their delicious meals. Most of ingredients are grown on site. The presentation is always a delight and the taste won't disappoint. One can spend hours in the gorgeous gardens of this peaceful place. I would love to stay on my next visit. My mum really enjoyed her birthday surprise treat here.
