Really good! Anthony is friendly and conscientious, it may well be hotel policy to ring the guests to ensure they’re happy with their rooms but he did it with style and care.

I stayed one month ago. July. This is an very good hotel for business personnel. There are many restraurants and shops nearby, and the beatuful and safe beach. You can enjoy walking along the beach.

Excellent service, clean good 4 star room, upgraded facilities, perfect location a 2 min walk from the beach, really top class restaurants and coffee shops all around as well as party spots, good parking, all you need to do is park your car and everything else is a walk away, really will live here again. Staff are very helpful.

Beautifully renovated! The hotel now has a very modern look but still feels cozy. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The best is the location, walking distance from amazing restaurants and the beach! The view from our room was amazing, no picture can capture how beautiful it is.

Second time staying at the hotel. It is cozy and the staff is very friendly. There are also alot of restaurants at walking distance.

Higher rooms are newer/newly renovated. Very central location and has plenty of shops and restaurants near by. Some rooms a little small but otherwise very clean and modern.

Modern well designed hotel. Friendly staff. Well priced accommodation. Fitted with the necessary items, fridge, coffee station, office desk and chairs. Close to many well known restaurants and malls. Not the best views currently with all the construction going on. A walk. Away from the beach though. Not very wheelchair friendly. A good family room. A bar in the hotel. A Spar across the road. The modern room makes for a very pleasant stay. There is a parking area for hotel guests.

Very nice and spacious, in a great location. Still quite surprised at the price for 3 star hotel, but then again it does come across better than a 3 star rated hotel.

Good experience for the price considering that you are about 300m from the beach and promenade. Was renovated about a year ago. Good clean, well maintained rooms. The hotel is surrounded by great restaurants. The staff are very friendly and professional. The hotel does not have a gym though and the kitchen only serves breakfast, so if you want in room dining you need to order takeaway via a delivery service and go collect in the lobby.

Very good service. The beds and rooms are great. The best thing of the stay is the Wi-Fi is fast and the hotel is close to all the shops. Best hotel been at in a long time.

Excellent location. Rooms are clean, neat and spaciuos. Enough restaurants in walking distance to grab a bite to eat from. Beach is in walking distance, but be warned it is downhill so the trek back can get tiring. Will definitely come back here.

Beautiful hotel on entering with safe undercover parking. Really a very basic hotel. We spent one night here. No water in rooms — empty fridge — just the basic toiletries — not even a shower cap. Breakfast was good and delish.

Really enjoyed the stay. Good value for money. The hotel room was very comfortable. The hotel is very relaxing and well positioned. Only problem was the aircon didn't work and we complained about the same aircon 3 months before.

We loved everything about our stay, the welcoming we received from Thandiswa & Thobeka was outstanding. The room was clean & fresh all the time. The breakfast is amazing, the ambiance was lovely… the kids loved every moment spent at this hotel.

We had been travelling for long hours on the road to a funeral and went to this hotel to ask to use their rest rooms early hours of the morning. The manager Harrish on duty refused point blank to allow my wife and daughter to use the toilet. I was disgusted that 2 woman where turned away by him, even after she explained that she is a pro-card member. He was unable to judge and make an exception, he just turned them away, not considering, they where woman at that late our that had an emergency. I think he could have been more humain and even asked the security to escort them to the ladies if he had reservations about them. Not just turn them away like thrash. I felt really insulted and felt like we as loyal customers to the Protea have no respect or even just compassion as a human towards another human in a desperate situation. A manager should be able to assess a situation and make a decision in an emergency, thats why he is a manager in place.

The hotel is fantastic, but the breakfast price is exaggerated. Check your competition Garden court at sandton.

Very modern hotel, about 5-7 minutes away from the beach/sea.
The hotel is located in the very busy area of Umhlanga rocks. Many restaurants are right in the building or around the hotel drum.
Our room was very large with two king size beds. Very clean and as said very new. Hotel is a typical tourist beach holiday hotel.
We were unfortunately only one night there and could not test the breakfast by early departure — there were boxes to go with.

A window with a picture laminated on it, when you open the window a white painted ally wall. Great view! On the other side of the room right outside a parking lot. Really? A non smoking room with an indoor parking lot on your front door step. Certainly the most impressive of all, no hotel restaurant and no room service. You are going out for dinner, whether you want to go or not… but then there is the self catering to look forward too… see me never again…

The Protea Umhlanga is located five minutes up the hill from the beach and the Umhlanga pier that I just fell in LOVE with last year. My room had a view of the pier from the window. My only complaint about the hotel was the construction going on nearby so my window was really dirty, but in spite of ALL the dirt it was still a LOVELY view. I was in the new tower of the hotel which has nice decor. Although I initially picked this hotel because the rooms had kitchenettes. I got there and found out those are in the old tower only, but my room did at least have a refrigerator. The staff was GREAT! I was met with a smile from everyone. The management team was lovely. They helped me with my tour plan to the mini safari and Zulu dancing. They made sure I was aware that there was 24 hour security in the area that everyone shares so they told me I would be safe walking around. All of the hot restaurants in the area were within a one block radius of the hotel so I had plenty of food options. Pick N Pay is across the street so groceries were also easily accessible. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

The area is beautiful. The hotel is not as nice as I expected. The rooms are small. A guest house would be better.

Cigarette smoking in the rooms flows out into hallway and makes the place stink… and this is a no smoking floor! Internet is very poor quality, frequently cuts off making it impossible to work. The limit of 500mb is a been a problem and must be reset everyday. Staff is very friendly but do not handle their smoking problems. Housekeeping does a nice job. Perfect location.
