We had a fantastic time to end our South African adventure. The staff are very friendly and provide d a very warm atmosphere for our visit. Food is great but just far too much! Special mention to the Activities Manager who awarded me the certificate and medal for achieving the Cathedral Peak Four. I would recommend the walks in the hills to any active walkers, they are well marked and easy to follow. A great hotel in a fantastic environment.

Stunning location, excellent friendly service, great food, great hikes, lovely large rooms and the list just goes on. I’ve been visiting here for almost 40 years and always feel immediately relaxed when I pass through the doors. Highly recommended.

We just spent the most beautiful 3 nights. The atmosphere is amazing, the staff, wow absolutely friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent, well done to the chef. We will definitely be visiting again. Love the place and awesome facilities. May you guys always keep up to standard.

The food at Cathedral peak hotel is such a treat. Best buffets ever. Top class! Best service. Lovely staff. Rooms are comfortable with luxurious sheets. The walks, scenery and atmosphere are too nice. Cathedral is one of my favourite places to be at, and I consider myself lucky and blessed to be able to have visited. Hope to be back soon.

Service and food good. Rooms are spacious and clean, with balconies. Road to the hotel is full of potholes and landslides making the drive there rather treacherous in anything other than a 4x4 or a tank! (Not the hotel road but the drive up to the hotel road) Plenty of things to do in and around the hotel. Organised hikes are regular throughout the week. Would definitely recommend.

We have just got back from our first ever family holiday and we couldn’t have chosen a better place. The staff were all so friendly and pleasant. The views breathtaking and the heated swimming pool a winner. The food was absolutely outstanding and we ate way to much!

It's a beautiful location. The Hotel and rooms are lovely and nice size. The staff are really awesome and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. Will definitely go again. It's a stunning wedding venue as well.

Our first time here! What an experience! Its soooo peaceful, relaxing, the mountains are beautiful, and the sound of the river takes all the stress of the city away. Why have we not discovered this wonderful place years ago? Excellent food, compliments to the chefs! Beautiful gardens, compliments to the gardeners. Feels as if I am in paradise! The only thing for us it is … it quite far to travel. 5 hours drive is tiring but it was all the way worthwhile! We will definitely try to be back.

Absolutely amazing hotel, the food, the views, the comfort, the activities, the walks. We just ate and ate and ate! 😂😂😂Good thing you can walk it off. The one thing I'd is that the reception staff are taught to be a bit more friendly and show empathy.

We have not visited Cathedral Peak for many years! It was always our absolutely favorite drakensberg destination. It became a bit too expensive for us, but they now have a few great packages and we decided to return with much excitement. Our 2 boys were 6 and 11 the last time we were there and they're now 16 and 22. It was so nostalgic returning, and it was fantastic to see it has still kept the traditional old Berg feel, with some lovely modernized features such as the bathrooms. The staff are fantastic! Friendly, happy, funny and efficient. The food as always is great and we were pleasantly surprised to discover that lunch is included in the rate now, along with morning and afternoon tea. You really need to do as many hikes as possible to enjoy every meal. Another plus is that many of the activities are now free. This makes it even more value for money. We did a number of beautiful hikes, and it's so lovely to walk out your door straight into the mountains. I do need to say that the parks board seriously need to maintain the paths. At a number of stages the grass was above our heads and we had to backtrack to find our way.
Thanks again to the Cathedral Peak Team. We had a lovely few days with you and cannot wait to return. So happy you survived lockdown!

Just concluding a fantastic few days at one of my favourite places.
The weather was typical of the season so no complaints about a few drops of rain. There was all the more scope to settle into the cosy hotel and enjoy the hospitality.
I managed some of the easier day walks (pics to be posted) which were perfect for the dry windows. From the vantage of the contour path there were times that the stunning panorama of the berg opened up from Gatberg to the Puddings which is always breathtaking. Having met Albert Van de Riet as a boy hiking the high berg I have always felt a special connection to this Hotel and I’m so pleased that the atmosphere of the family run hotel has been maintained. Keep up the great work William, Byron and your happy team.

I reported smelly/dirty wine glasses to management. Asst manager offered to fix my problem within an hr, it has been 3 weeks and still no feedback.
Standard of management and service has declined to an unacceptable level. Rating 1 star.

My husband and I had the most amazing stay for our honeymoon From the dining room buffet, teas, staff, we were really impressed. Comfortable bar and lounge, all well maintained and very clean.
Perfect place to rest and enjoyed the Beautifull panorama views over the mountains.
We will definitely return for our 1st wedding anniversary.

Wonderful place for family holiday. Great food, best vegetarian options we have come across… magnificent mountain setting… very pleasant helpful staff… Spectacular walks for all age groups… mini golf, kids playground, badmington, tennis, squash, lawn bowls, swimming pool, gym, horse riding and more. Plus beautiful little chapel.

Cathedral Peak Hotel has been our favourite holiday destination for the past thirty years or so. What a pleasure it is to avail of the many walks directly from the hotel itself. The rooms are luxurious and the food is of the highest standard. All this set within the majestic Drakensberg mountains. The helicopter trip is a must for an unequalled view of the mountains beyond what you see from the hotel or on the walks. However, be aware that when there is a wedding party at the hotel, it can be disruptive. On a recent visit, on Father's Day weekend of 2018, we had to cancel one of our favourite sunset walks past Lake Jarred because of a wedding photography session! Also, the music from the wedding reception went on until midnight! If you value peace and quiet during your stay and unhindered access to walks, then I suggest you phone before you book to make sure there is no wedding planned (or indeed some other group celebration). Cathedral Peak Hotel is still our favourite place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and provides much needed food for the soul. We just need to ensure that next time we avoid a wedding party when planning our stay.

This hotel is absolutely beautiful. The setting is perfect and the rooms are comfortable. The only problem I had was the service and food. I felt like I might have been at a college cafeteria eating. The food was very bland and kind of jumbled with no consistent theme. The service was a bit strange. Some of the staff were very friendly and others I think were very bewildered looking. I thought some of the staff were rude at times but I don't think they were trying to be rude. I just don't believe they were very service oriented. Some training would help with this. Overall a very relaxing experience. Will try another resort on my next trip.

We visited it to do some of the famous walks in the area. Not bad but it turned out to be the loosest area we visited in Drakensberg. The staff was not very friendly and just gave us a map of the area. You pay to access, although I don't remember it being especially expensive. There is no picnic area.

After a hike we drank a total of 4 small beers. Cost 269 Rand! That's outrageously expensive! Usually a big beer costs 0, 75 liters about 30 rand in SA.

The hotel is located in a beautiful nature reserve in kwazulunatal which a must see.
As a hotel it is discreet and has a good service staff.
Many attractions created ad hoc for tourism, from helicopter flights to horseback riding and many other amenities. They leave behind the roofs of corrugations that make him lose a bit of that charm that instead deserves.

This is an amazing place to stay nestled in the foothills of the Dranksberg mountains. The views are incredible and on a clear day one gets a panorama of the surrounding peaks. There are plenty of short walks and day long hikes one can take from the hotel as well as guided tours. The hotel is also well known, and rightly so, for its evening buffets. The volume and quality of the food is eye watering.

After paying R250 just to visit the hotel at 2 different checkpoints you expect a certain level of service. Buffet was weak and food was room temperature. Staff are completely uninformed on how the menu works and weren't much help. Their Buffet was not actually a Buffet but a self service, meaning you can only have one item and pay for that. This place needs some serious management and staff training. Views were amazing but that's about it.

The road to the hotel is horrible. There is one way in and out and feels like driving through an unsafe area. However the room were very beautiful and staff are very friendly but after the first dinner, you realize that you are an hour and half drive from any other types of food. The food are same each night. If you do not enjoy hiking or golf, there is pretty much nothing to do. I am an animal lover and saw beautiful cats with broken paws that torn me to pieces, as they were to afraid to let me close to try and see if I could help. I feel that with such a big hotel, there would be animal feeders and water. This would really make a difference in there lives. The hotel are beautiful and very calming.

It was a lovely time and fantastic food. The only thing that could be improved upon is the access for disabilities. My mom has great difficulty climbing stairs, but really wanted to get to the dining room to choose her own buffet. It took two people each time to get her there and back. Otherwise the facilities are great and relaxing and beautiful. Thanks for a super getaway.

Highly recommended. Cannot fault its location as the hotel really right in the Berg! Breathtaking views. Great food. I’d say the only thing that needs a bit of work is putting more staff behind the bar in the early evening. Lady (by herself) behind the bar at 545pm was not coping and her disposition was getting worse. Same night (Saturday) had very few waiters clearing plates from tables in the diningroom (family of 4) we had 3 plates empty and backing up fast and no staff in sight. But as usual a lovely stay. A few more smiles from staff would be great though.

Wonderful location, warm and welcoming service. Room cleaning started quite early in the morning during our visit. Accessibility is pretty hard (roads, park fees…) if you don’t have a driver. Overall a very relaxing place!

Wonderful place. Every need catered for inclusive package brilliant and the buffet dinner and breakfast something to look forward to every day. The views are spectacular and we enjoyed taking a walk along the river.

My experience here was great the hotel itself is spot on! Good food and friendly staff they have facility to accommodate and entertain children while parents are doing fun activities. They have a lot of activities you will never get bored.

We went to have a look. Firstly… the road there (all though well maintained) is long narrow and winding. Many pedestrians. Need to be very alert Not recommended to drive it night. Once we got there, as day visitors we had to pay two entrance fees. R80 for the park then R50 for the hotel. Apparently that includes a free coffee and parking. Having paid to get in and for parking I would have assumed we would be welcomed. However security treats visitors like an annoyance and we were gruffly ordered to our paid parking area halfway down a mountain in a sad looking dirt paddock. We contemplated the hike back to the unfriendly guard to ask breathlessly for directions to our free coffee or call it a day. We left without stepping out of the car. Won't ever be back I can promise.

Lots of activities for the kids. Stunning views. Nice hiking trails. Rooms feel old school, but well maintained. Make sure to drive there with a vehicle that has good road clearance.

Amazing getaway for the whole family or just a couple. Wide diversity of activities from horse riding, hiking, golf, quad biking to board games, games room and cold and hot pool. Our just chill in the lounge or one of the two bars with majestic views of the Drakensberg mountains.

Three's a reason this place has regulars. If you want access to awesome hiking routes and quiet luxury, this is the place. Also the food is great. If there's trout, skip the stir — fry. Seriously.

Beautiful location, the mountains are amazing. Hotel is clean and has Wi-Fi. The food is buffet style with a large variation of cuisines, and very good.

An overall good stay, but left with a negative feeling, after being forced to pay almost R500 for 2 umbrellas that we borrowed from reception. The deposit was not explained when borrowing the umbrellas. We put down the umbrellas at the wedding there — they were most likely returned to the hotel in any case. So… if you do borrow umbrellas make sure you return them, unless you want to take home an overpriced umbrella with Cathedral Peak Hotel emblazoned on it, of course.

This review is exclusive of the Cathedral Peak Hotel and not of the area or the park. The park is a natural beauty with breath taking views. However the resort takes advantage that they are the only game in town. It takes 45 minutes from the main road to get there and there are no other options for this set of peaks. It is my opinion that, because of this, the service lacks.
The workers in the front desk were unpleasant for the most part and seemed annoyed when questions we asked of them. The dining experience was also really poor. It is a huge dining room however there is a type of assigned seating. You can pick a table as long as someone staying on grounds hasnt already 'claimed' it. When we came for a late diner the majority of the room was empty but we were given the choice of two tables to sit at. Then we were told thats where we would have to sit for all meals moving forward. The food was not much better, while there were various options the quality resembled that of a cheap buffet. One example was the beef curry, the meat had no flavor and you could tell they just poured a sauce on top. Very disappointing! The waiters which were not amicable didn't tell us that water and juice would be additional, we assumed that if dinner was included with the stay, that it would include basic beverages. We assumed wrong and were given the bill. Note there are no restaurants anywhere near, so again only choice is at hotel.

We spent 2 nights here for our honeymoon (27&28.8.2017) and we had such an unforgettable time, I really was sad to leave! From the check in to check out, and even the way reception handled our noisy drunk neighbors situation, we were treated wonderfully. The honeymoon suite was so beautiful and clean. The gardens and hotel is so well maintained, & let me not even get started on the amazing and delicious food! It is so rare now days for service providers to actually have pride in their service and make customers feel special! Thank you so much to everyone at Cathedral Peak for making our two days so beautiful! We will definitely be back for more food and hikes!

Beatiful Scenery. The buffet meals are very good and offer loads of options. Tea time snacks are good as well. There are quite a number of things to do if you enjoy the outdoors. Walked to Doreen Falls and had a good time.

We enjoyed our stay, but we did feel that it was a bit overpriced for the whole three days. The drinks were a bit pricey at the bars, but not too bad. Service was good. Food was great! The only disappointment was the children's dining room and entertainment, it didn't appeal to my eight year old at all.

It's a beautiful location on the foothills of the drakensberg. The buffet style meals are some of the best I've ever had. The staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. We had sick children and needed several linen changes into the night. No problem. The hiking and scenery is world class and great for the soul. We will be back!

We stayed from 20 to 23 June and it was great. From the reception to check-out there was no issues. The staff are very friendly and helpfull. The hotel goed to great lenghts to keep guests entertained by arranging activties like table tennis tournament, music quiz, guided walks. There are also a number of hiking trails that can be done alone with a map.
The food is of top quality and very tasty and plenty to choose from.
The Wellness Spa's treatments are professionally delivered.
We will definately return and recommend it to our friends and family.

At the foot of the Drakensburg mountains in the middle of nowhere and 6 hours by car from Jo'burg is Cathedral Peak Hotel. Once you're up at the top life feels so peaceful and relaxing. I experienced an awesome welcome on arrival and found the staff to be helpful and friendly. The dinner and breakfast buffet was amazing and I just had to go back for seconds and thirds. Excellent Wi-Fi reception. Would definitely recommend this to friends and family.

Was absolutely amazing! The view is breathtaking and the people were really friendly and extremely helpfull! What also made this trip amazing is fact that I am part of DreamTrips wich is VIP vacations.

Been there for my sisters wedding, lovely food, but the views of tge mountains n the scenery spectacular, u got to be there to appreciate.

Wonderful destination, gorgeous views everywhere you look, good size chalets that were well equipped and had super comfy beds! Restaurant/Dining room food was delicious and plentiful! We sat on our 'stoep' having a coffee & rusk and a deer came up the garden and ate leaves from the tree right in front of our lodge — lovely to see :-)

Get away for a weekend or more if time allows. You won't be bored at the beautiful old gem, located in the Drakensberg. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, this tranquil paradise has something for everyone. From quad bikes and climbing walls, to fishing and hiking this place has it all. Want to play sports, there gold, tennis, swimming pools and lawn bowls. Plenty to do for young and old and when you get hungry, there are many options, all delicious.

I haven't been there, but my son was there in December last year for a week, he was so excited about the hotel, I will book my for December as well.

We just love being so close to naturw and here you are in the middle of it all with hikes of various grades, lounges and verandahs to soak in the awesome surrounds, including the majestic cathedral and bell looming close by.
